    Abstract: The production of a wooden rake requires a number of manual processes and the application of various woods. In the film you can see the making of a rake-head into which the shank will be introduced. As the production of the film had to be carried out within a short time and with limited film material at disposal the fashioning of the shank could not be recorded. The film brings into focus the precision with which the craftsman works and it is characteristic of him that he signs the finished rake.

    Abstract: Maibäume werden vor allem in Oberbayern errichtet, meist weiß-blau (den bayerischen Landesfarben) bemalt und mit Figurengruppen, Handwerkerzeichen usw. geschmückt. Der Film zeigt, wie der Maibaum in Oderding bei Weilheim mit einem Pferdefuhrwerk zur Gastwirtschaft des Ortes gefahren und dort von einer Gruppe jüngerer Männer aufgestellt wird. Der Film dokumentiert nicht nur den Vorgang des Aufstellens, sondern versucht auch Begleiterscheinungen (spielende Kinder, Blaskapelle usw.) zu zeigen, um die Atmosphäre, in der dieser Brauch abläuft, zu skizzieren. Während Maibäume in den Nachbargemeinden seit vielen Jahren errichtet werden, wurde der erste Maibaum in Oderding im Jahre 1965 aufgestellt.
    Abstract: It is mainly in Upper-Bavaria that maypoles are erected. They are mostly painted in white and blue (the regional colours of Bavaria) and decorated with figures and the signs of the various guilds etc. The film shows how the maypole is transported by a horse-pulled trailer to the local inn of Oderding near Weilheim and there erected by a group of young men. Particularly included are the accompanying activities such as playing children, brassband etc. to demonstrate the peculiar atmosphere. While maypoles have been erected in the surrounding communities for many years, the first maypole in Oderding was seen in 1965.

Dann setzt sie sich nieder und beweint den Tod der jungen Frau in einem langen, lyrischen, frei erfundenen, monologartigen Klagelied. An anderen Gräbern halten sich auch Frauen auf, die klagen oder Speisen und Gaben austeilen.
    Abstract: A 68-year-old woman enters the cemetery at six o'clock in the morning. She circumambulates the grave of her daughter and incenses it. Then she sits down and laments the death of the young woman in a long lyrical, monologue-like extempore mourning song. There are also women at other graves, lamenting or depositing food and gifts.

    Abstract: Men and women in festive attire have assemble for the mourning-dance on one of the dancing-place in the Kenga village of Barama. On the border of the dancing-place stands the orchestra which consists of five flutes differently pitched, three rattles and three drums. In the second part of the film the dancers are joined by several Arab women, who can clearly be distinguished from the Kenga women. The film shows two excerpts from the dodi-dances which, however, comprehend all essential sequences and steps of the dance.

    Abstract: The film shows the making of burduf-cheese in an Alpine chalet on a spring Alpine pasture in the Cibin mountains. Rennet is added to the strained and warmed milk. After the milk has curdled the whey is skimmed off and the curds are put in the straining cloth, pressed and put to ferment in the store-room. The fermented mass is chopped up, salted, kneaded and filled in a skin which is kept in the store-room.

    Abstract: Abraham, the village chieftain of Shivankoreni, makes a cylindrically shaped basket with a lid (tsivogo), which will later be hung from the rafters of the house as a container for household goods (cotton yarn, carrying nets, etc.). The basket and its lid are made using four hoops cut from bamboo-like stalks, with the help of twisted thongs made from the middle-ribs of the wild boar caña braba, and finally coated with layers of leaves.

    Abstract: Ein junger Mann aus Shimaa gewinnt Bastfasern aus Agaveblättern, schabt, wäscht und trocknet sie. Er drillt mehrere Fasern linksförmig zu Fäden und zwirnt sie auf dem Unterschenkel rechtsförmig zu einer endlosen Schnur zusammen. Er fertigt mit Hilfe zweier Maschenmaße ein von Männern mit Stirnband getragenes Tragnetz mit zweischlaufigen, gekreuzten Knoten.
    Abstract: Jeronimo, a young Matsigenka, who has a wife and small child and still works for his father-in-law, shows how threads are obtained from an agave plant to make cords, how th cord is made and how a carrying net used by men is made from one continuous thread, i. e. is worked from one continuous twisted thread in a knotting technique (of the two crossed loop type). As the conclusion of the work on the carrying net could not be filmed, Jeronimo shows how a carrying net is held or carried with the headband.

    Abstract: The chief procedures in the threshing and winnowing of grains as they may be regarded as typical for the traditional (non-mechanized) agriculture of the Anatolian high plateau form the content of this film: Wheat is transported on a traditional two-wheeled ox-cart pulled by a pair of water buffaloes from the fields to the threshing-floor, where it is spread out in a round "bed" and consequently threshed and turned into chaff (during two days) by three yokes of oxen and buffaloes pulling threshing-sledges with sharp flints on their under-sides. After threshing, the material is piled in high mounds and winnowed several times in the wind with the aid of broad forks. Finally the grains are cleaned with sieves, packed into sacks and taken to the house.

    Abstract: Das "Begraben" der Fahne erfolgt auf demselben Hügel wie das Aufrichten. Die hochgestellte Fahnenstange wird losgelassen, die Männer laufen auseinander. Beim Aufschlag der Stange kehren sie um und begrüßen sich gegenseitig, als hätten sie sich lange nicht mehr gesehen. Der Brauch endet mit dem Tanz der Kaluscharen.
    Abstract: The film shows the kalushar group coming from the village and climbing up a hill to conclude the traditional Whitsun rites. The cloth and the herbs are taken down from the "flag", distributed among the kalushars, the flag pole is hoisted up, and at a sign from the mutul it is let go. At that moment the men spring apart and run away in various directions. As soon as the pole hits the ground they turn round and greet each other as though they had not seen each other for a long time. The film ends with the subsequent dancing.

Das Instrument dient nur zur Unterhaltung und wird ausschließlich von Männern gespielt.
    Abstract: Issa Yussufami, a Kanembu, plays the guitar tjegeni. The instrument has three strings of horse-hair which the player plucks with his right hand while the fingers of his left hand strike the strings. The tones of the tjegeni imitate the melody of words and it is possible for the player to "speak" with the tjegeni. The instrument is only used for entertainment and is played by men only.

    Abstract: Die Gruppe der Tänzer und die Trommler mit dem Chor der singenden und klatschenden Frauen stehen sich gegenüber. Beim Tanz bilden die Tänzer einen Kreis, schwingen ihre Turbantücher und zeigen eine Sequenz von Sprüngen.
    Abstract: A large number of villagers have come together on one of the dancing-places of Djaya. In the centre of the dancing-place stand the dancers, about twenty boys, on the border, close together, the onlookers. On the otherside of the dancing-place are two drummers and the girl's chorus. The girls clap their hands and sing, in a chorus for one voice with a solo singer, songs in praise of prominent persons. For the "napa"-dance the dancers form into a circle which moves anti-clockwise. The figure of the dance consists of a sequence of steps combined with a waving of the long turban scarves. The girls' chorus has repeatedly difficulty in keeping time. Several women improvise spontaneous dance steps on the border of the dancing-place. It is evident that all the people are stimulated by the large quantity of beer they have drunk in the course of the day. The film presents only excerpts from the "napa"-dance.

    Abstract: At the feast of mótyoro men and women in festive attire have come together for dancing on one of the dancing-places in Tialo-Ibeda village. In the centre of the dancing-place stands the orchestra which consists of five flutes of different pitch, one rattle and three drums.

    Abstract: Auf einem Tanzplatz des Dorfes Barama tanzen Frauen in einem inneren und Männer in einem äußeren Kreis. Ein Mann führt einen Scheinkampf auf, andere schwingen ihre Waffen. Der in wesentlichen Ausschnitten gezeigte Tanz wird von einem Orchester aus fünf verschieden gestimmten Flöten, drei Rasseln und drei verschiedenen Trommeln begleitet.
    Abstract: Men and women in festive attire make up two circles for the darangaba-mourning-dance on one of the dancing-places in the Kenga village of Barama. The men make up the outer, the women the inner circle. Both circles move with rhythmic steps anti-clockwise, the women swinging their arms, the men brandishing their weapons and uttering war-cries. During the dance one of the men performs a pantomimic sham attack, other men occasionally step into the women's circle and parade before them brandishing their weapons. The orchestra is not to be seen in the film because its out of the visual field of the camera. It consists of five flutes differently pitched, three rattles and three drums. The film only shows excerpts from the darangaba-dance which, however, comprehend all essential sequences and steps of the dance.

    Abstract: Eine Kreisformation bildend und nach sozialem Status angeordnet, tanzen junge Frauen und Mädchen um eine Gruppe von Trommlern. Junge Männer bilden ein äußeres Kreissegment. Die Tanzfigur besteht aus kurzen, rhythmischen Schritten und halben Drehungen.
    Abstract: The "bardjat"-dance is an entertainment dance of the young people. In the centre of the dancing-place stand the drummers, whose number varies in the course of the dance. The "bardjat"-dance is performed in two circles which move anti-clockwise. The women and girls are arranged in an inner circle according to their social status. The boys form an outer circle, but as there are only a few boys taking part in the dance the circle cannot be formed. The dance figure of the girls consists of small rhythmic steps with a bending of the knees and a swinging of the arms. The steps are concluded by a half body-turn, then a series of steps performed on the spot follows, concluded also by a half body-turn, this time in direction of the dance. The figure of the boys corresponds to that of the girls, only the half body-turn is performed in opposite direction so that during the following sequence male and female dancers face each other. The dance is modified by the arrival of a group of boys and girls led by the chief holding a flag in his hand. In the course of the dance the women perform their movements more and more distinctly, the steps are almost leapt and the movements of the arms become more and more intense. The boys, however, keep their slow step up to the end. The film presents the "bardjat"-dance at full length.

    Abstract: The flute-maker Dumitru Tartareanu makes from plum wood a flue pipe with six finger holes and dorsal slit. The manufacture proceeds in the following stages: making the tube, the mouthpiece, and the holes; mounting sheet-brass and decorating; finishing touches.     Abstract: Vor Sonnenaufgang gehen die Frauen auf den Friedhof, wo sie ihre Toten individuell beklagen sowie die Gräber umkreisen und beweihräuchern. Der zweite Besuch im Friedhof erfolgt nach dem Gottesdienst etwa um 11 Uhr. Auf die Gräber werden Blumen, brennende Kerzen und die Totengaben gestellt. Die Zeremonie der kollektiven Totenklage beginnt, wenn die Kirchenglocken ertönen.
    Abstract: The film shows the death laments in the cementery in the village Priseaca (Olt district). The first part shows the laments of the women before sunrise. The second part shows the lamentations in the morning after the church service. Some lamenting women are shown in several parts of the cementery as well as the more passive participation of some men also present at the morning lamentations.

    Abstract: The film shows four Saxon folk dances (Ländler, country waltz; Spinnradel, spinning wheel; Tätscher, patting dance; Walzer, waltz) from the parish Großau on the Zibin, performed by eight young couples in the yard of the old parish school. The musical accompaniment is given by the parish orchester with accordion, flügel horn, bass flügel horn, clarinet and prercussion instruments.

    Abstract: Vor einem Gebäude des Sultans von Mao spielt dessen Hoforchester, bestehend aus einer Oboe (Algaita), einer Längstuba (Gaschi) und vier Trommeln, eine Huldigungsmelodie an den Sultan.
    Abstract: In front of a building of the Sultan of Mao, the six musicians of the court orchestra lay a melody in honour of the Sultan. The principal instrument of the orchestra is an oboe called algaita. To play the algaita the player blows up his cheeks and takes a provision of air which allows him to play the long melody without intermission. The second wind-instrument of the orchestra is a long tuba called gaschi, made from plate. The tones of the instruments of the orchestra are four different drums, beaten with wooden drumsticks or with the hand. The musicians are dressed in the typical clothes worn by the male Muslims in Chadian towns. The film only presents an excerpts from the piece of music.

    Abstract: Der Bulala-Spielmann Abakar Mohammed spielt die Fiedel 〈i〉kukuma〈/i〉. Mit der rechten Hand führt er den Bogen, mit der linken Hand greift er die einzige Saite ab. Zur rhythmischen Begleitung der 〈i〉kukuma〈/i〉 betätigt sein Begleiter Sakin die Rassel. Sakin trägt einen aus Dumpalmenbast geflochtenen Kopfschmuck, der teilweise mit Aluminiumfolie verkleidet wurde und mit Straußenfedern ausgestattet ist. Im Rhythmus der Musik wirft er während des Spiels den Kopf hin und her. Die Instrumentalmusk ist jedoch nur Unterhaltung für den Gesang, der im Mittelpunkt der Darbietung steht. Abakar singt in der Sprache der Bulala Preislieder auf den "Sultan" von Korbo und auf die Schönheit der Frauen des Landes.
    Abstract: The Bulala musician Abakar Mohammed plays the fiddle kukuma. With his right hand he moves the bow, with the left hand he strikes the single string. For rhythmic accompaniment his companion Sakin shakes the rattle. Sakin wears a headdress plaited from palm bast, covered partly with aluminium foil and decorated with ostrich feathers, and as he plays he moves his head to and fro to the rhythm of the music. The instrumental music, however, is only accompaniment to the song which is the main presentation. Abakar sings, in Bulala, songs in praise of the "Sultan" of Korbo and of the beautiful women of the country.

    Abstract: In principle all age groups may take part in the kaltumandasa-dance, but as the dance requires a high degree of effort it is mostly danced by the younger people. The dance is danced in couples, i. e. a man and a woman hold each other by their hands. The orchestra consists of five flutes of different pitch, one rattle and three drums.

    Abstract: Im Dorf Sara tanzen nacheinander unterschiedliche Paare vor einer Gruppe Preislieder singender und in die Hände klatschender Mädchen und Frauen, wobei der Mann rechts von seiner Partnerin steht, ihren Arm faßt und mit ihr eine Kombination von Hoch- und Weitsprüngen vorführt.
    Abstract: Women and girls of Sara village are arranged in a semicircle on the dancingplace, clapping their hands and singing songs of praise. In front of the semicircle a couple take their place for dancing. The boy places himself by the right side of the girl, takes her arm and performs with her the figure of the "al beher"-dance, a combination of long and high leaps with "leapturn". The film only presents excerpts from the dance which, however, show the characteristic figure several times in detail.

    Abstract: Im Dorf Tialo-Ibeda tanzen Männer in einem äußeren und Frauen in drei inneren Kreisen, jeweils nach Altersgruppen gegliedert, zum Orchester aus fünf verschieden gestimmten Flöten, einer Rassel und drei verschiedenen Trommeln sowie drei kultischen Blasinstrumenten.
    Abstract: On one of the dancing-places in Tialo-Ibeda village stands the traditional orchestra which consists of five flutes of different pitch, one rattle and three drums. Three parna (cultic wind-instruments) have been added. The orchestra tunes up the bidjerua-dance and men and women in festive attire take their places for dancing. The men, placing themselves according to their age class, make up an outor circle which moves anti-clockwise, the women, drawn up also according to their age class, three inner circles. Men and women execute different steps. The men walk with rhythmic steps; the women first throw their legs backwards in the air and then perform a series of leaps. The women do not leap all at the same time, but some of them begin and the next join so that the movements spreads clockwise, that is, in opposite direction to the dancers. The film shows the bidjerua-dance completely.

    Abstract: The film shows the work in a bucket watermill in Rudaria. The work is carried out in the following sequence: readjustment of the sluice board and starting up of the mill, filling the corn into the hopper, lifting the runner with the aid of a lifting device and adjusting the milling course; after conclucing the milling shovelling the flour out, cleaning the place and the stones, removing the unground corn grains from the hopper.

    Abstract: Im Dorf Tialo-Ibeda stehen Frauen und Mädchen in einem Halbkreis und singen ein Preislied auf reiche und berühmte Männer ihres Landes und klatschen dazu. Drei Männer wählen sich jeweils Partnerinnen aus und tanzen mit ihnen.
    Abstract: Women and girls are arranged in a semicircle. They clap out the rhythm of the "kifet"-dance and sing songs of praise, at the same time performing swaying movements and swinging the long plaits to the rhythm of the dance. Three men approach the women with dancing steps and choose partners from among them by placing themselves in front of the woman of their choice. The rhythm of the dance now accelerates and the couples perform accordingly rapid movements. After this short sequence the original rhythm is taken up again, the men withdraw and choose other women for their partners. Getting tired, the dancers are replaced by other men.

    Abstract: Im Dorf Tialo-Ibeda spielt das aus fünf verschieden gestimmten Flöten bestehende Festorchester in traditioneller Aufstellung zunächst einzeln den jeweiligen Part. Es folgt das Zusammenspiel der fünf Flöten, wobei der erste Flötist zusätzlich eine Rassel betätigt.
    Abstract: The traditional Dangaleat flute-orchestra consists of five flutes differently pitched. Each flute consists of a bamboo cylinder with three holes burnt in and a notch at the upper end. The musician holds the flute with the palm of his left hand while his fingers stop the holes when required. The man playing the longest flute shakes at the same time with his right hand a rattle. In order to facilitate the analysis of the orchestra, the instruments in the first part of the film are demonstrated individually. Each musician plays his part of the piece of music played in ensemble in the second part of the film. The position of the musicians is fixed by tradition. The musicians are dressed in the ever-day clothes of Dangaleat men.

    Abstract: In einen Nebenarm des Rheins rudert der Fischer sein Boot im Stehen zum Fangplatz. Dort stellt er eine selbstgefertigte Perlonreuse ins Wasser und befestigt sie mit zwei Holzstäben so, daß das Netz sich spannt und seine Eingänge sich öffnen. Dann tarnt er sie mit Schilf. Am zweiten Platz entleert er eine Flügelreuse und macht sie nachher wieder fangfertig, bevor er zur Landestelle zurückfährt.
    Abstract: A fisherman rows his boat in a standing position into a side arm of the Rhine to the catching-place. There he sets a home-made nylon fish trap and fastens it with two wooden rods so that the net tightens and the entrances open. For camouflage he covers it with reed. At a second catching-place he he empties a winged fish trap and prepares it for the next catch. Then he returns to the landing-place.

    Abstract: In the Kenga village of Barama an old man has died. Early on the burial day several women of the village assemble at the entrance-gate to the homestead of the deceased. They sing the traditional mourning-songs, accompanying the songs by drums and iron hoe blades which they strike against one another. Near female relatives of the deceased have shaved their heads and put ashes on them as a sign of mourning. Many of the women wear mourning belts of white cotton strips, the widow of the deceased is to be known by the thick cloth belt round her waist.     Abstract: Das Verdichten der Wolldecken erfolgt im Wirbelkorb, in dem ein starker Wasserstrahl das Gewebe in ständiger Bewegung hält. Nach dem Trocknen kommen die Decken zum Aufflauschen in die Rauftrommel, dann in die Rumpeltrommel, wo sie mit warmem Wasser behandelt werden. Beide Trommeln werden mit einem unterschlächtigen Schaufelrad betrieben. Nach einem kurzen Ausspülen im Wirbelkorb werden die Decken zum Trocknen aufgehängt.
    Abstract: The film shows how woollen blankets are laid in a whirling basket to be soaked, they are later taken out and hung up to dry. In the next operation the blankets are stretched over a drum. When the drum is turned the blankets are dragged lightly over a bed of nails, and thus roughened. After being treated once more in the whirling basket, the blankets are laid in a tumbling drum. In this work phase, which can last from 14 - 24 hours, the desired compressing of the woven structure takes place. After a short rinse in the whirling basket the blankets are hung up to dry.

    Abstract: The film records the singing of a Haiduk song from Cîmpu lui Neag, an old shepherd settlement on the Western Jiu. The singer, Saveta Matei, is a woman farmer, 64 years old and has lived in the village since her marriage. The song recorded belongs to the traditional repertoire of the village and is homophone, like all lyrical songs of Roumania. Its melody structure is strophic. The heroic tone and a certain longing are characteristic of this songs.

    Abstract: The film shows the production of telemea-cheese in an Alpine chalet on a spring Alpine pasture in the Cibin mountains. Rennet is added to the strained milk. The whey is separated from the curdled mass by pressing. The cheese mass, cut into pieces, is put into a salt water solution. After an approximately four hour treatment the pieces of cheese are laid in rows in a wooden vat and each layer is strewn with salt. After about three days the lid is made fast and the vat is filled with salt water up to the brim through an opening in the lid.

    Abstract: Women and girls are arranged in a semicircle on the dancing-place of Sara village. They clap out the rhythm of the "goshele"-dance and sing songs in praise of several rich and famous men of the country. A couple take their places for dancing, the two partners facing each other. For some measures the boy and the girl perform swaying movements on the spot, then both at a time perform a high leap and stamp their right or left foot on the ground. The high leap is performed three times, then the dancers pass with stamping steps by each other and each goes to the place previously occupied by his partner. This figure is always repeated, it is performed in the film by different male and female dancers. A particularly well performed figure is acclaimed by the women with quavering.

After the exchange partners have formed two rows facing one another - one row with pots, the other with packets of sago - the women with the sago go to those with the pots and offer it for exchange, usually silently. The visitors then return to their villages loaden with pots.

    Abstract: Young people of Djaya, chiefly women and girls, have come together for dancing the "parama"-dance. In the centre of the dancing-place sit two drummers. The "parama"-dance is performed in circular formation which moves anti-clockwise. The boys form into an outer, the girls and women into an inner circle, both drawn up according to their social status. The figure of the dance consists of a series of complicated steps and ends with a complete body-turn. In the course of the dance the number of the female dancers increases so that the women's circle must partly be doubled. The film presents the "parama"-dance at full length.

    Abstract: In the afternoon of the burial day the villagers assemble for the mourning dances before the homestead of the deceased. The dance is accompanied by the orchestra which consists of five flutes differently pitched, three rattles and three drums. The mourning dances, called dodi or mutu, are charaterized by stamping steps. The steps are carried out very quickly, and the dance requires a considerable amount of energy.

    Abstract: Auf einem Tanzplatz des Dorfes Sara wird von zwei jungen Männern eine Felltrommel geschlagen, Frauen singen Preislieder und tanzen in mehreren Reihen, nach ihrem sozialen Status angeordnet, um die Trommler herum. Später kommen junge Männer hinzu.
    Abstract: On the dancing-place of Sara village the nugara, a cylindrical double skin drum, is beaten by two young men. One of the young men beats on nugara. To the rhythm of the drum the women sing songs of praise. The "am haraba"-dance is performed anti-clockwise around the drum. The women form into different lines according to their social status. They swing their arms and advance with small rhythmic steps, then they perform swaying movements, swinging their long plaits intensely. In the beginning only women dance, later on young men join in the dance. The young men are equipped with long millet stems in place of the lances borne by the men at this dance. The film only presents an excerpt from the "am haraba"-dance which however, comprehends all characteristic phases of the dance.

    Abstract: In der Schmiede der Familie Franzoni in Bienno (Provinz Brescia) arbeitet der 85jährige Vater mit seinen drei Söhnen und einem Gehilfen. Sie stellen in Serienproduktion etwa 80 nach oben ausladende Eimer pro Tag her: Vorbereitung des Materials (Eisenplatten aus Schrottbeständen), Formen und Erwärmen der Platten, Hämmern mit Fallhammer (oberschlächtiges Wasserrad) zur Eimerform, Beschneiden, Endbearbeitung, Anbringen von Henkeln.
    Abstract: Working on a forge, whose origins date back to the XVII century A. D., the father and sons of an artisan family of Bienno in the province of Brescia, N. Italy, manufacture, metal buckets for brickwork. They work with slabs of re-usable iron, which are heated in a furnace adapted to naphtha oil-firing. The draught for blowing the furnace is created by an acient system based on the fall of water. The process begins with the preparation of the material. An iron slab is shaped to the form required for a container mould, into which flat beaten-out iron plates are inserted seven at a time. The batch is then heated and pounded into bucket form by a water-powered drop-hammer. After shearing and finishing, the buckets are fitted on two sides with handles and stacked one inside the other. The final product is much wider at the drop than at the bottom, a shape traditionally used for conveying mortar and other light building materials.

    Abstract: Im Dorf Tialo-Ibeda tanzen Frauen in einem inneren und Männer in einem äußeren Kreis in unterschiedlichen Tanzschritten um die von zwei Trommlern geschlagene, zweifellige Zylinder-Trommel und eine weitere Trommel. Der erste Tanz geht in den zweiten über, bei dem sich Männer und Frauen gegenüberstehen.
    Abstract: The nugara, a cylindrical double membrane drum, is attached to a pole in the centre of the dancing-place and is beaten by two men. One man beats on the centre of the membrane, the other on the border of the membrane. The second drum is another cylindrical double membrane drum; the drummer holds it between his legs and must bend over it when playing it. The "zinugi"-dance is performed around the drummers who always remain in the centre of the performance. The dancers form into two circles which move anticlockwise, the women and girls forming an inner, the men an outer circle. Men and women perform different steps. During the dance the women utter quavers and cries, some cries are also uttered by men. Finally the dance dissolves, but the drummers go on playing and the dancers pass from the "zinugi"-dance to another dance called "nugarafok". At the "nugarafok"-dance men and women face each other in two rows. The step of the dance consists of leaps performed with both legs. The dancers come up to the camera and make a gesture of homage as it is usually made by the Sudan-Arabs in honour of a person of high rank. (In this case the dancers pay homage to the European standing behind the camera.) Both entertainment dances are presented at full length.

    Abstract: Der Spielmann Hassan Tjari, ein Daza, spielt die Fiedel finini. Er hält das Instrument zwischen dem abgewinkelten rechten Knie und dem linken Fuß fest, mit der rechten Hand führt er den Bogen, mit der linken Hand greift er die einzige Saite der finini ab. Die Instrumentalmusik ist jedoch nur Untermalung für den Gesang, der im Mittelpunkt der Darbietung steht. Der Spielmann singt in der Sprache der Daza ein Preislied auf den Sultan von Mao.
    Abstract: The musician Hassan Tjari, a Daza, plays the fiddle finini. He holds the instrument between his right knee squared and his foot. With his right hand he moves the bow, with the left he strikes the single string of the finini. The instrumental music, however, is only accompaniment to the song which is the main presentation. The musician sings, in Daza, a song in praise of the Sultan of Mao.

    Abstract: Auf einer Straßenkreuzung im Dorf treffen die Kaluscharen mit der Gruppe aus Colonesti zusammen. Nach der zeremoniellen Begrüßung und einem protokollarischen Akt beginnt der Wettstreit. Es werden Solo- und Gruppentänze vorgeführt.
    Abstract: At a crossing in the village the kalushars meet the group from Colonesti. After a ceremonial salutation and a formal act the contest begins. Solo and group dances are performed. The films E 1653 and E 1655 present each a part of the custom.
