    Abstract: Die "Historische Gesellschaft Lazarus Strohmanus Jülich" (Generalversammlung und Vorbereitung am Fastnachtssonntag) führt im Rahmen eines öffentlichen Schaubrauches alljährlich am Fastnachtsdienstag das Aufwerfen einer Strohfigur vor: Umzug durch die Stadt, Aufwerfen, Einzug in die Wirtschaften, Ausstellung des Lazarus vor dem Rathaus und Schlüsselübergabe. Am Schluß wird die entkleidete Strohfigur in die Ruhr geworfen.
    Abstract: Every year on Shrove Tuesday the "Historische Gesellschaft Lazarus Strohmanus Jülich" (Historic Society Lazarus Strohmanus Jülich) performs in public the custom of throwing up a straw figure. The film presents in chronological order the general meeting of the performers and supporters of this custom (with "national song", commemoration of the dead, conferring of medals and swearing), the preparations for the performance (studying of the reprimanding verses, making of the brooms), and the principal phases of the performance: procession across the town, throwing up of the straw figure, entry into the inns, exhibition of the "Lazarus" in front of the town hall, and delivery of the keys of the town. Finally the undressed straw figure is thrown into Rur.

Die Faserstränge werden von links nach rechts in sich gedreht und miteinander verflochten. Später setzt er seine Arbeit stehend fort.

The fibre strands are each twisted from the left to the right and interwoven with one another. Later, he continues his work while standing.

    Abstract: Männer und Jungen aus Mailal bauen zwei etwa 12-15 bzw. 15-18 m lange Holzbrücken über den Malingkele-Fluß, die ihr Dorf mit Imde verbinden werden. Zuerst werden die Brückenköpfe errichtet, dann die Baumstämme aufgelegt und mit Fasermaterial miteinander verbunden. Danach werden die Laufstege aufgebunden sowie die Geländer aus langen, biegsamen Stangen hergestellt. Während der Gemeinschaftsarbeit wird auch ein Erdofen errichtet.
    Abstract: Men and boys from Mailal build two approximately 12-15- and 15-18-m-long wooden bridges over the Malingkele River. These bridges will connect their village with Imde. To begin with the bridge heads are erected; then the tree trunks are put on and tied together with fibrous material. Subsequently, the catwalks tied on and the railings, which are made of long, flexible poles, are made. During this co-operative effort, a earthen oven is erected.

    Abstract: Vor Sonnenaufgang gehen die Frauen auf den Friedhof, wo sie ihre Toten individuell beklagen sowie die Gräber umkreisen und beweihräuchern. Der zweite Besuch im Friedhof erfolgt nach dem Gottesdienst etwa um 11 Uhr. Auf die Gräber werden Blumen, brennende Kerzen und die Totengaben gestellt. Die Zeremonie der kollektiven Totenklage beginnt, wenn die Kirchenglocken ertönen.
    Abstract: The film shows the death laments in the cementery in the village Priseaca (Olt district). The first part shows the laments of the women before sunrise. The second part shows the lamentations in the morning after the church service. Some lamenting women are shown in several parts of the cementery as well as the more passive participation of some men also present at the morning lamentations.

    Abstract: The film shows sequences of the commemorative festivities in Desa, the last part of a Rumanian national custom carried out in three parts. At Easter it begins with the offering of the sarindar and in September the second part, a water ceremony, takes place. The commemorative festivities end on the 24th and 25th October with a banquet and a mask procession.

    Abstract: In der für die Filmaufnahmen bestellten Aufführung spielt der Musiker und Bauer Berlian Kabeakan aus dem Dorf Petall bei Sukaramai auf der offenen Längsflöte sordam. Die Bambusflöte besitzt vier Grifflöcher. Das der musikalischen Selbstunterhaltung wie Unterhaltung im kleinen Kreis dienende Flötenspiel beruht zum Teil auf Gesangsvorlagen aus dem Volksliedgut der Pakpak.
    Abstract: In a performance ordered for the film the musician and farmer Berlian Kabeakan from Petall village near Sukaramai plays on the open end-blown flute 〈i〉sordam〈/i〉. The bamboo flute has four finger-holes. The music, played for self-entertainment or in a small circle, is partly based on Pakpak folk-songs.

    Abstract: Im Dorf Dorong starb eine 80jährige Frau, die als Priesterin andere Frauen ausgebildet hat. Nach der Aufbahrung treffen Trauergäste ein. Frauen aus der Verwandtschaft halten Trauerwache und singen Klagelieder. Zwei Priesterinnen führen die Totenzeremonien durch. Am zweiten Tag wird die Tote in einen Einbaumsarg gelegt, der fest verschlossen wird. Am dritten Tag wird sie auf dem Friedhof beerdigt.
    Abstract: In Dorong village, near Tamiang, an eighty-year-old woman has died. She was a priestess (wadian), responsible also for the training of other women. The film presents the exposure of the corpse, the arrival of the mourners, and the ceremonies connected with this event. The ceremonies are performed by two priestesses, one having the function of a teacher. The second day the corpse is laid in the coffin, the third day the burial takes place in the cemetery.
