    Abstract: Dieser erste von zwei Filmen der Serie "Pomakische Portraits" beschreibt das Leben im Dorf Bresnitza (Südbulgarien) durch Darstellung der Arbeit der Frauen, von Prozessen der Reislamisierung nach dem Ende des Kommunismus und der wachsenden westlichen Einflüsse. Am Beispiel der Muslimin Zeyneb und ihrer Familie sowie der jungen westlich orientierten Fidanka werden diese antagonistischen Prozesse in der heutigen pomakischen Gesellschaft thematisiert.
    Abstract: The first film of a series of two portrays life in the Pomak village of Breznitsa (South Bulgaria) focussing on female labour, processes of re-islamization after the downfall for communism and growing western influences. Taking the example of the muslim mother Zeyneb with her family and that of young western-oriented Fidanka these antagonistic processes in contemporary Pomak society are described.

    Abstract: In einem vielschichtigen Panorama zeichnet der Film das Bild des deutschen Dorfes Ófalu in Südungarn, dessen 428 Einwohner bis heute die herkömmliche Lebensart bewahrt haben. Besuche im Kindergarten und bei einer Familie dokumentieren die lebendige Zweisprachigkeit, ebenso Äußerungen von Dorfbewohnern, die über die Handwerkstradition, aber auch von Verschleppungsschicksalen der Nachkriegszeit berichten. Karfreitags- und Auferstehungsprozession zeigen die Volksfrömmigkeit, eine Hochzeitsfeier und ein Wirtshausbesuch das Dorfleben mit deutschen Liedern, Musik und Tanz. Die Frage nach der Zukunft findet neben einer vorsichtigen Tourismusorientierung ihre Antwort aus dem Munde eines Bewohners: "Wenn sie bleiben und zusammenhalten...".
    Abstract: A panorama of the village of Ófalu in southern Hungary, whose 428 inhabitants retain traditional lifestyle. Kindergarten, a bilingual family, comments on hand crafts and also the post war period. Good Friday and resurrection traditions showing puritanism, a marriage. Visit to local pub with German songs, dance and music. The future, apart from possibilities of tourism, is seen as "we stick together and see.....".

    Abstract: Wie bei anderen ostafrikanischen Viehzüchtern hängt auch nach Auffassung der Hamar das Glück eines Mannes vom Schicksal seines Lieblingsochsen ab. Um seinen Ochsen zu lobpreisen, singt ein Hamar bei Tanzfesten stets ein selbstkomponiertes Lied über ihn. Im Film erläutert Choke, ein Hamar-Mann, die Liedinhalte, und Gardu, eine Hamar-Frau, die Choreographie der Tänze.
    Abstract: As among other East African pastoralists, in Hamar the good fortune of a man, his family and his herds is thought to be determined by the fate of his favorite ox. To glorify his ox, a man composes a special song and sings it whenever he attends a dance. Prominent in the film are Choke, a Hamar man, who provides insight into the meaning of the songs, and Gardu, a Hamar woman, who explains the choreography of the dances.

    Abstract: Das erste und bedeutendste der alljährlichen Totengedenkfeste im Königreich Oku ist die vom Palast veranstaltete Zeremonie. Den umfangreichsten Teil des Festes nehmen die öffentlichen Tanzauftritte der Maskengesellschaften ein. Nachdem der Chiamfa-Gesellschaft vom König ein Huhn übergeben wurde, tanzen, begleitet von gruppeneigenen Musikinstrumenten, die Masken von Chiamfa, Nkumki, Subi aus Jikijem und Nsum.
    Abstract: The first and most important of the annual feasts in Oku commemorating the deceased is the ceremony organized by the Royal Palace. The largest part of the feast consists of the dances of the mask societies. After the king has presented a chicken to the Chiamfa Society, the following societies have their appearances together with their own music groups: Chiamfa, Nkumki, Subi from Jikijem, and Nsum.

Nachdem sich die Tänzer in dem nur Eingeweihten zugänglichen Palastbereich angekleidet haben und sie gesegnet worden sind, haben sie, begleitet von einem Xylophon und anderen Instrumenten, vor dem Palast ihren öffentlichen Tanzauftritt.

The first part of the ceremony is held by the secret society Kwifon. Its mask group Felingang dances in public. After dressing in the restricted part of the palace and after blessings, the dancers appear in front of the spectators.

Im letzten Teil der einwöchigen Veranstaltung treten die wichtigen Militärgesellschaften auf. Zu ihnen gehört Nfuh, deren Tanzauftritt von einer großen Elfenbeintrompete begleitet wird. Anschließend führen sieben Medizinmänner ein öffentliches Medizinritual durch.
    Abstract: The first and most important of the annual feasts in Oku commemorating the deceased is the ceremony organized by the Royal Palace. During the final part of the one-week-ceremonies the influential military societies have their public appearances. One of them is Nfuh. The group dances in front of the spectators accompanied by a huge ivory trumpet. Afterwards seven medicine men publicly carry out a medicine ritual.

Part of the public activities of the secret society Kwifon is the appearance of the Agah mask. In its presence a goat is sacrified. It starts with the activities of the secret society Kwifon. In the society's compound on the palace premises Kwifon holds a secret ceremony called "the music of Kwifon". Several secret musical instruments are played and one of Kwifon's masks, Mabuh, appears in the compound.

    Abstract: Das erste und bedeutendste der alljährlichen Totengedenkfeste im Königreich Oku ist die vom Palast veranstaltete Zeremonie. Den umfangreichsten Teil des Festes nehmen die öffentlichen Tanzauftritte der Maskengesellschaften ein. Zu ihnen gehören die machtvolle Nontang-Gesellschaft und die Mukong-Gesellschaft aus Ngashie. Ihre Maskenauftritte, begleitet von gruppeneigenen Musikinstrumenten, werden von zahlreichen Zuschauern verfolgt.
    Abstract: The first and most important of the annual feasts in Oku commemorating the deceased is the ceremony organized by the Royal Palace. The largest part of the feast consists of the dances of the mask societies, among them the powerful Nontang and Mukong from the village of Ngashie. Many spectators watch as these mask groups dance accompanied by music made by members of their own society.

Nach den Auftritten der Geheimgesellschaft Kwifon tritt Chong auf, eine Gesellschaft, die für ihre Musikinstrumente bekannt ist. Die Frauen in Oku sind in der Fimbien-Gesellschaft organisiert. Die Königsfrauen treten als Fimbien-Gruppe vor dem Palast auf und tanzen.
    Abstract: The first and most important of the annual feasts in Oku commemorating the deceased is the ceremony organized by the Royal Palace. Following the activities of the secret society Kwifon, Chong appears, a society well-known for its musical instruments. Then the wives of the king of Oku, organized as members of Fimbien, the women's society, appear in front of the palace and perform dances.

Im letzten Teil der einwöchigen Veranstaltung treten die wichtigsten Militärgesellschaften auf. Zu ihnen gehört Samba, deren Kriegsmaske begleitet von der "Frau von Samba" erscheint. Anschließend führen Medizinmänner öffentlich das Medizinritual "Kefuh Samba" durch.
    Abstract: The first and most important of the annual feasts in Oku commemorating the deceased is the ceremony organized by the Royal Palace. During the final part of the one-week-ceremonies the influential military societies have their public appearances. Among them is Samba, whose war-mask is accompanied by the "wife of Samba". After this medicine men carry out the medicine ritual "Kefuh Samba" in front of the spectators.

    Abstract: Eight to twelve year old children clap, sing and dance on their school playgrounds, showing their traditional and adapted children's dances and singing games. The documentary includes clapping games, two counting-out rhymes, several round dances (e. g. the bridge game) as well as antiphonal chants and skipping. (Recorded in Leuven, Brabant, at the Basisschool "De Kraal", Herent, and the Basisschool Lagere en Kleuterschool, Heverlee.)

Nachdem die Einzelmaske Khegebshuh durch ihren Auftritt die Kinder und andere Zuschauer erschreckt hat, folgen weitere Tanzauftritte der Masken von Ngang, der Medizingesellschaft, Ndanyi aus Lui, Subi aus Mboh und Nkie aus Lui. Auch diese Masken werden von gruppeneigenen Musikinstrumenten begleitet.
