    Abstract: Das erste und bedeutendste der alljährlichen Totengedenkfeste im Königreich Oku ist die vom Palast veranstaltete Zeremonie. Zu den öffentlichen Auftritten der Geheimgesellschaft Kwifon gehören das von einem Ziegenopfer begleitete Erscheinen der Agah-Maske, der Zug der Nokang-Masken und die Auftritte des wilden Nkock sowie der Läufermaske Mabuh.
    Abstract: The first and most important of the annual feasts in Oku commemorating the deceased is the ceremony organized by the Royal Palace. Part of the public activities of the secret society Kwifon is the appearance of the Agah mask. In its presence a goat is sacrified. Then follows the pageant of Nokang masks and appearances of the wild Nkock and of Mabuh.

    Abstract: Das erste und bedeutendste der alljährlichen Totengedenkfeste im Königreich Oku ist die vom Palast veranstaltete Zeremonie. Im letzten Teil der einwöchigen Veranstaltung treten die wichtigen Militärgesellschaften auf. Zu ihnen gehört Nfuh, deren Tanzauftritt von einer großen Elfenbeintrompete begleitet wird. Anschließend führen sieben Medizinmänner ein öffentliches Medizinritual durch.
    Abstract: The first and most important of the annual feasts in Oku commemorating the deceased is the ceremony organized by the Royal Palace. During the final part of the one-week-ceremonies the influential military societies have their public appearances. One of them is Nfuh. The group dances in front of the spectators accompanied by a huge ivory trumpet. Afterwards seven medicine men publicly carry out a medicine ritual.

Die Königsfrauen treten als Fimbien-Gruppe vor dem Palast auf und tanzen.

Following the activities of the secret society Kwifon, Chong appears, a society well-known for its musical instruments. Then the wives of the king of Oku, organized as members of Fimbien, the women's society, appear in front of the palace and perform dances.

Den umfangreichsten Teil des Festes nehmen die öffentlichen Tanzauftritte der Maskengesellschaften ein. Nachdem die Einzelmaske Khegebshuh durch ihren Auftritt die Kinder und andere Zuschauer erschreckt hat, folgen weitere Tanzauftritte der Masken von Ngang, der Medizingesellschaft, Ndanyi aus Lui, Subi aus Mboh und Nkie aus Lui. Auch diese Masken werden von gruppeneigenen Musikinstrumenten begleitet.
    Abstract: The first and most important of the annual feasts in Oku commemorating the deceased is the ceremony organized by the Royal Palace. The largest part of the feast consists of the dances of the mask societies. After the Khegebshuh mask has arrived from a neighbouring village and appeared in front of the spectators, other mask groups perform their dances, accompanied by their own instruments (xylophone, drums): the medicine society Ngang, Ndanyi from Lui, Subi from Mboh and Nkie from Lui.

Nachdem sich die Tänzer in dem nur Eingeweihten zugänglichen Palastbereich angekleidet haben und sie gesegnet worden sind, haben sie, begleitet von einem Xylophon und anderen Instrumenten, vor dem Palast ihren öffentlichen Tanzauftritt.

The first part of the ceremony is held by the secret society Kwifon. Its mask group Felingang dances in public. After dressing in the restricted part of the palace and after blessings, the dancers appear in front of the spectators.

After the king has presented a chicken to the Chiamfa Society, the following societies have their appearances together with their own music groups: Chiamfa, Nkumki, Subi from Jikijem, and Nsum.

Dabei werden die geheimen Musikinstrumente gespielt und Mabuh, die Läufermaske von Kwifon, tritt auf.

    Abstract: Das erste und bedeutendste der alljährlichen Totengedenkfeste im Königreich Oku ist die vom Palast veranstaltete Zeremonie. Im letzten Teil der einwöchigen Veranstaltung treten die wichtigsten Militärgesellschaften auf. Zu ihnen gehört Samba, deren Kriegsmaske begleitet von der "Frau von Samba" erscheint. Anschließend führen Medizinmänner öffentlich das Medizinritual "Kefuh Samba" durch.
    Abstract: The first and most important of the annual feasts in Oku commemorating the deceased is the ceremony organized by the Royal Palace. During the final part of the one-week-ceremonies the influential military societies have their public appearances. Among them is Samba, whose war-mask is accompanied by the "wife of Samba". After this medicine men carry out the medicine ritual "Kefuh Samba" in front of the spectators.

    Abstract: Das baufällig gewordene sakrale Männerhaus wird innerhalb eines Tages mit bereitgehaltenem Baumaterial durch eine Neukonstruktion ersetzt. Etwa 50 einheimische Männer und Jungen sowie Gäste aus anderen Dörfern nehmen an dem Bau des Rundhauses mit Kegeldach teil. Die Arbeit wird von zeremoniellen Handlungen begleitet.
    Abstract: Building materials, poles and planks, are partly of sacral character. They are set up at a rhythmical run, producing a state of ecstasy. Food is distributed to the workers. The new house is covered with the old roof. Finally, the sacred digging-stick is placed in the new men's house. Small spirit houses are also constructed.

    Abstract: Anlaß der in den Filmen E 2201 und E 2202 wiedergegebenen Zeremonie war der erste Europa-Besuch des Dalai Lama am 9. Oktober 1973 in Rikon/Schweiz. Die Gläubigen bitten den Dalai Lama "fest zu verweilen", d. h. lange zu leben und sich auch nach seiner gegenwärtigen Existenz immer wieder neu zu verkörpern, bis alle Lebewesen vom Leid erlöst sind.
    Abstract: The film, composed of two parts (E 2201 and E 2202), presents the greater part of a ceremony held on 9th October 1973 in a big camp at Rikon (Switzerland) on the occasion of the Dalai Lama's first visit to Europe. At this ceremony hundreds of faithful entreat "perpetual presence" of the Dalai Lama, i. e. that he may live long and return to our world, after the extinction of his actual existence, in successive incarnations, untill all beings are delivered from suffering.

    Abstract: Die Roggengarben werden auf der im Freien gelegenen Tenne ausgebreitet und in Nachbarschaftshilfe mit Flegeln gedroschen. Die zwei Dreschgruppen bestehen jeweils aus fünf Männern, die jeweils in zwei Reihen dicht hintereinander arbeiten. Gemeinsame Mahlzeit als Gegengabe für die Arbeit. Das Auffinden einer mit Stroh ausgestopften Schafhaut leitet eine zeremonielle Brauchhandlung ein: Trauerzugparodie, Verbrennen der Schafhaut, Tanz.
    Abstract: The sheaves spread out are treshed with flails. The threshers are working in teams of five persons arranged in two lines close to each other. The discovery of a stuffed sheepskin is the beginning of a ceremonial threshing custom. After nightfall the sheepskin is burnt in the open air.

    Abstract: Am Vorabend des 13. Dezember kleiden sich zwei Frauen und ein Mädchen als Luzien an (2 schwarze und 1 weiße Luzia) und betreten eine Wohnstube, in der Kinder auf einer Eckbank sitzen. Die Luzien sagen einen Spruch auf und drohen den Kindern. Ihre Requisiten sind: Sichel und Wetzstein sowie ein Gefäß mit einem Holzlöffel.
    Abstract: In the area of Cham (Upper Palatinate) a bogy appears at the eve of Dec. 13th, the day of Saint Lucia, which is called "Luzia" or "Luzl". About the year 1930 this custom was still practised in the whole of north-east Bavaria especially by the farm workers. "Luzia" threatens to rip up the children's stomachs with her sickle and to fill them with bricks. Today this figure is widely rejected because of its negative effects on the children's minds.

    Abstract: Am Beispiel zweier Zulu-Frauen wird der Geburtsverlauf in Kniestellung gezeigt. Die Geburten finden in einer Hütte statt, einzige Hilfspersonen sind die Schwiegermutter sowie eine Verwandte. Die Kreißende unterstützt das Pressen durch kräftiges Ziehen an einem Strick. Ihr Leib wird mit speziellen kräuterdurchtränkten Grasbüscheln massiert. Im zweiten Beispiel wird eine Spontangeburt gezeigt. Durchschneiden der Nabelschnur mit einem scharfen Grashalm.
    Abstract: Parturition in the kneeling position demonstrated by two Zulu women. The first example is birth in a hut with mother-in-law and one further family member present, where the woman is massaged with herb-saturated grass and the helpers assist the birth by pulling on a rope. The second example involves spontaneous birth. Cutting the umbilical cord with a sharp blade of grass.

    Abstract: Die "Historische Gesellschaft Lazarus Strohmanus Jülich" (Generalversammlung und Vorbereitung am Fastnachtssonntag) führt im Rahmen eines öffentlichen Schaubrauches alljährlich am Fastnachtsdienstag das Aufwerfen einer Strohfigur vor: Umzug durch die Stadt, Aufwerfen, Einzug in die Wirtschaften, Ausstellung des Lazarus vor dem Rathaus und Schlüsselübergabe. Am Schluß wird die entkleidete Strohfigur in die Ruhr geworfen.
    Abstract: Every year on Shrove Tuesday the "Historische Gesellschaft Lazarus Strohmanus Jülich" (Historic Society Lazarus Strohmanus Jülich) performs in public the custom of throwing up a straw figure. The film presents in chronological order the general meeting of the performers and supporters of this custom (with "national song", commemoration of the dead, conferring of medals and swearing), the preparations for the performance (studying of the reprimanding verses, making of the brooms), and the principal phases of the performance: procession across the town, throwing up of the straw figure, entry into the inns, exhibition of the "Lazarus" in front of the town hall, and delivery of the keys of the town. Finally the undressed straw figure is thrown into Rur.

Nach dem Raspeln des Samenfleisches preßt sie den Saft aus und siedet ihn in Kokosnußschalen auf kleinem Feuer, bis sich das Öl absetzt. Nach Sieben und nochmaligem Erhitzen reichert sie es mit Duftstoffen an.
    Abstract: A woman in the village of Tetua grates the meat taken from fully ripened coconuts and presses the milk out of it. The resulting mash is boiled over a fire in coconut shell halves until just the oil remains. The oil is purified, reheated, and enriched with an aromatic substance.

    Abstract: Im Dorfe Buariki baut ein Mann mit Hilfe seiner Verwandten in 10tägiger Arbeit aus Pandanusholz ein wandloses Vierpfostenhaus von rechteckigem Grundriß mit einem Giebeldach. Das Haus hat eine etwa 1 m über dem Erdboden eingebaute, durchgehende Plattform. Das Dach ist mit aus Kokospalmblättern geflochtenen Elementen gedeckt.
    Abstract: Shows all of the important steps undertaken in a ten-day working period as a house is constructed in the village of Buariki on the atoll Tabiteuea. This sleeping house is built in a style which has been customary in the Gilbert Islands since the seventh century - a four-post house of rectangular design with a gable roof, no walls, and a platform built about one meter off the ground. While the men finish the frame construction the women work to make roof coverings from old coconut palm leaves which are tied to the lattice work.

    Abstract: Shows various techniques used by the people of the Gilbert Islands to fish: one man pegs his fishing lines to the shore of the lagoon on Nonouti and returns later to retrieve the catch; one man sits on a gangway near a rocky bank of Nonouti and uses mussel bait to catch fish, which he kills with a bite to the head; a man cuts his fishing rod from wood in the bush, catches small fish and hermit crabs as bait, and then angles successfully in the crevices of the reef; and in the open sea near Onotoa a man in a sailboat catches flying fish with coconut meat as bait.

    Abstract: Rochen werden in der Lagune von Onotoa schwimmend und tauchend gejagt und mit einem Speer erlegt. Andere Fische werden mit Gummischleuder und Eisenpfeil geschossen. Muscheln werden auf dem Lagunengrund gesammelt. Von einem Segelboot aus wird in der Lagune von Nonouti ein großer Stachelrochen mit dem Speer erlegt.
    Abstract: Shows two scenes of ray hunting. In the western lagoon of Onotoa men swim and dive to hunt rays. When an animal has been speared it is transported home on a sailboat and is divided up on the beach. During the long excursion members of the crew shoot fish underwater with rubber slings and iron arrows. Mussels are caught on shore for immediate consumption. In the northern lagoon of Nonuti men are shown maneuvering their sailboat in the vicinity of a large stingray, and spearing it.

Mit Pandanus-Blattstreifen wird gesäumt. Nachdem Rahe, Spiere und Schote befestigt sind, wird das Segel in verschiedenen Bootsmanövern ausprobiert.

Die Partei mit der höchsten Trefferzahl hat gewonnen.

An diesen Schwimmkörper binden zwei Männer zur Stabilisierung Längshölzer und Querstreben an. Nach Anbringen des Auslegergeschirrs und eines Schwimmers wird dieses Einmannfischerboot ausprobiert.
