    Abstract: Räume und Städte sind gesellschaftlich produzierte Verhältnisse. Nur wie lassen sich diese Verhältnisse erkennen, verstehen und erklären? Die Einzelbeiträge reflektieren jeweils die Entstehungskontexte, Kernargumentationen, empirischen Verwendungsmöglichkeiten sowie die transformatorische Bedeutung der diskutierten Theorien und Konzepte. Der Band fasst die derzeitige Debatten und die mit ihnen zusammenhängenden Fragestellungen zusammen und stellt Grundthemen und Analysebereiche der Ansätze heraus. Zudem werden Arbeitsperspektiven abgeleitet.     Abstract: "Once touted as the world's largest industry and also a tool for fostering peace and global understanding, tourism has certainly been a major force shaping our world. The recent COVID-19 crisis has led to calls to transform tourism and reset it along more ethical and sustainable lines. It was in this context that calls to "socialise tourism" emerged (Higgins-Desbiolles, 2020). This edited volume builds on this work by employing the term Socialising Tourism as a broad conceptual focal point and guiding term for industry, activists and academics to rethink tourism for social and ecological justice. Socialising Tourism means reorienting travel and tourism based on the rights, interests, and safeguarding of traditional ecological and cultural knowledges of local peoples, communities and living landscapes. This means making tourism work for the public good and taking seriously the idea of putting the social and ecological before profit and growth as the world re-emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic. This is an essential first step for tourism to be made accountable to limits of the planet. Concepts discussed include Indigenous culture, toxic tourism, a 'theory of care', dismantling whiteness, decolonial tourism, and animal oppression, among others, all in the context of a post COVID-19 world. Die Frau weist ihn zurück und behält den Vorfall jahrelang für sich. Zuvor hatte sie in der Polizei vergeblich um Unterstützung ersucht. Erst Jahre später taucht dieser Polizeibeamte in den Schlagzeilen auf, weil er seiner jungen Kripochefin nachgestellt haben soll. Erst daraufhin wird er aufgrund der Anzeige der Angestellten rechtskräftig verurteilt. Diesen konkreten Rechtsfall sexualisierter Grenzüberschreitung, nehmen die Herausgeber des Buches als Anlass interdisziplinär zu untersuchen, wie Mechanismen der Skandal- und Krisenbewältigung und die damit einhergehenden Formen der institutionellen Abwehr in der Organisation Polizei wirken. Das Wegsehen und rationalisierende Verdrängen seitens Vorgesetzter, Kolleginnen und Kollegen ist unbedingt aufklärungsbedürftig.     Abstract: Since the 2008 Global Financial Crisis the prevailing economic development model based on an assumption of unlimited resources and, therefore, unlimited growth has been increasingly put into question by academics, policy-making agencies and even industry leaders themselves. Climate change, general environmental and natural resource degradation, widespread inequalities, and systemic governance failures are pressing capitalism to renew itself to deliver sustainable outcomes for a broader base of stakeholders. This has become known in more practical terms as the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) and responsible investment movements. The pressure to change how we organise ourselves as societies and economies has implications for how large and small corporations, public or private, are governed and to the benefit of whom. This Handbook offers a rare combination of pluralistic and multidisciplinary perspectives from law, economics, finance and management, as well as an interesting mix of latest academic thinking and practical recommendations on ESG for boards and executive teams. Should companies be governed and managed for the benefit of their shareholders alone? Can companies be governed to deliver for shareholders as well as the broader stakeholder base? How can investors allocate capital to advance sustainability? Part I provides a pluralistic discussion of some of these fundamental questions besetting academics and practitioners alike while Part II examines recent regulatory developments and assesses what may need to change in terms of law and regulation to both hold companies to account for sustainability while enabling them to continue to provide vital goods and services. Part III of the book discusses how the different types of companies and investors are currently facing the sustainability imperative and incorporating ESG factors on how they operate and invest. The concluding chapter provides an overview of the key regulatory, ecosystem and board-level gaps that require urgent and decisive action. Paulo Câmara is a Professor of the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Portugal, Managing Partner of Sérvulo & Associados and Head of Governance Lab, an independent research group dedicated to corporate governance. He is also the Chairman of the General Meeting of the Portuguese Association of Banks since 2016, and of other financial institutions, and Chairman of the General Meeting of the Portuguese Compliance and Regulatory Observatory since 2017. Filipe Morais is a Lecturer in Governance & Reputation, and Programme Director of the MSc Management for Future Leaders at Henley Business School, University of Reading, UK. Filipe has published research papers, reports, chapters and books in the areas of corporate governance, strategic management and sustainability. He sits on the editorial board of the California Management Review and The Journal of Business Governance & Ethics. He is a member of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI) and the independent research group, Governance Lab.

    Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to further acceleration of digitalisation in all areas. This caused significant changes in economic and social life. Through digitalisation, the need for people in business life has decreased and has forced the traditional employment structure to change. During the pandemic period, some segments enjoyed the advantages of owning digital technologies, while others remained strangers to the new world because they were deprived of digital technologies, revealing the inequality of opportunity on an individual or social basis. Although this rapid change produced positive results, it also brought about risks. To help mitigate such emerging risks, The New Digital Era's two volumes vitally generate new information in order to determine the advantages and risks in which areas this digitalisation, which has increased with the COVID-19 pandemic. Thomas Walker is a Full Professor of Finance and the Concordia University Research Chair in Emerging Risk Management at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. Frederick Davis is an Associate Professor at the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. Karagiannis is particularly interested in developmental state theory and policy. King is Emeritus Professor at La Trobe University and Honorary Professor at Federation University Australia.     Abstract: Energy policies play a pivotal part in helping countries achieve their sustainable development goals. Further, energy is one of the critical raw materials in companies’ production processes. Therefore, ensuring a steady energy supply is essential to increasing production; otherwise, countries will inevitably slide into recession. In this context, countries should select their energy policies on the basis of a comprehensive analysis. In order to achieve this goal, many different factors must be considered at the same time. The aim of this book is to determine the right energy policies for the sustainable economic development of countries. In this framework, effective strategies for different types of energy will be presented and vital issues such as determining the right locations for nuclear power plants, providing optimal government incentives to increase clean energy investments, and determining appropriate energy policies to reduce energy dependence will be examined. Thus, country-specific optimal energy policies will be outlined, contributing to the achievement of the UN’s sustainable development goals (SDG).

    Abstract: This open access handbook is distinguished by its emphasis on international energy, rather than domestic energy policies or international geopolitical aspects. Addressing key topics such as energy production and distribution, renewables and global energy trends, regional case studies and emerging areas such as the digitalization of energy and energy transition, this handbook provides a major new contribution to the field of international energy economics. Professor Manfred Hafner teaches economics and (geo)-politics of international energy at the SciencesPo Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) and at The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS-Europe). Until recently he directed the “Geopolitics and Energy Transition” research program at the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM). He also runs his own energy strategy consultancy with which he has over the last decades extensively advised governments, international organizations and the energy industry. Professor Giacomo Luciani leads the Master in International Energy at the Paris School of International Affairs, Sciences Po, which he established in 2011. He is also adjunct professor of interdisciplinary studies at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva; and Visiting Professor in the Master in Commodity Trading of the Graduate School of Economics and Management of the University of Geneva.

    Abstract: This book focuses on the recovery and new normal in a post-Covid scenario, drawing important lessons from the pandemic and proposing new ideas for sustainable development, endogenous dynamism, and inclusive growth. The book presents different ideas and perspectives about the present and the future, reflecting on four main fields of our economic reality: macroeconomics, governments, technology, and society. It discusses important topics for future economic scenarios, beginning with an estimation of the economic consequences of the absence of an equitable distribution of vaccines. Further topics discussed include the government’s debts sustainability, the probability of an inflation/deflation or of a stagflation scenario, as well as the impact of US and European economic policies on economic growth. The book further investigates the economic costs of the pandemic, which have fallen most heavily on those least able to bear them. It examines governments subsidies, which supported people and firms through wage subsidies, unemployment benefits, and other fiscal measures, and discusses the question of whether more investment in health care, education, and other public services will still be needed.     Abstract: "According to the European Commission, two recent policies: the Digital Service Act and the Digital Market Act will allow for the regulation of a significant part of the EU Digital Single Market (DSM), to an extent similar to the creation of the traditional internal market in the early 1990s. The provisions are intended to improve conditions in the EU DSM to ensure that the market is as free and fair as it is safe for users of the digital economy. This interdisciplinary book analyses the impact of digital technologies on specific markets and, more broadly, the society and the economy. It identifies and assesses the different features, challenges, trends and dimensions of the EU DSM, from a legal and economic viewpoint, and also from a Polish perspective. Poland is presented as one of the EU countries participating in the creation of the EU DSM and is analysed alongside the average, as well as the best and the worst performing EU member states and compared with other non-EU members. The book addresses several broad areas in which the implications of digitalisation are particularly visible, and which are important to the "average" person: giant online platforms, freedom of speech, e-commerce, digital levy, energy infrastructure, and the labour market. The authors have presented opportunities and threats related to the functioning of the digital market. These opportunities and threats are typical of highly developed countries while reflecting the specific features of the EU DSM. The starting point of the considerations are the diverse experiences of the EU member states. It is thus urgent to show what people would gain from a shift to a post-neoliberal and post-growth convivialist future. This volume includes a theoretical debate on convivialism which reflects dystopias and shows the multiple and major obstacles that convivialism will have to face. Mainly, however, the contributors to this volume create sketches of a convivial future and collect accounts of another future world which is attractive for as many as possible.

    Abstract: In today’s globalised world economy, it is becoming increasingly pressing to shine a light on the interface of work and private life. In order to fully understand the issue we must take an inclusive view and not limit our understanding to Western perspectives. This contributed volume encompasses research and perspectives from the global south, including Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and South America. In doing so, this collection fills a gap in existing literature to give a broader view of the topic. Divided by geographic territory into three sections, the book combines original research, case studies and interviews as well as comparative studies. Chapters cover a wide range of emerging issues including gender and work-life balance; the role of culture; men and household work and work and family balance, to name a few. Crucially, the book offers critical perspectives and understanding of work-life interface/balance/conflict as a collection of conceptual, theoretical, and empirical studies that draws on qualitative and mixed methodologies. Bringing a unique contribution to the field, this book is a useful resource for students, academics, managers and policy makers. Toyin Ajibade Adisa is Senior Lecturer in HRM and Organisational Behaviour at the University of East London, UK. Currently, he is a course leader for HRM undergraduate course at UEL. His research interest covers areas of flexible working practices and gender equality. Toyin has published in high-impact academic journals. Gbolahan Gbadamosi is Associate Professor Organisational Behaviour and HRM, Bournemouth University Business School, UK. He has over 100 academic publications, most in scholarly academic journals. Gbola at different times has been affiliated with 6 universities in 5 countries. He has completed several Ph.D. supervisions and about 20 doctoral examinations.

    Abstract: This book addresses the controversies surrounding smallholders’ opportunities for economic and social upgrading by joining global agricultural value chains (AVC). While international organizations encourage small farmers to become part of AVC, critics point out its risks. Unlike previous single case studies, researchers from three continents compared the influence of the characteristics of the crop (coffee, mango, rice), the end markets, and the national political economic contexts on the social and economic conditions for smallholders and agricultural workers. Their findings highlight the importance of collective action by smallholders and of a supportive state for economic and social upgrading.
