    Abstract: Zwei Brüder aus Patan bearbeiten ein Ziegenfell, schneiden es zurecht und ziehen es auf den faßförmigen Korpus, der aus einem Stück Holz geschnitzt worden ist. Nach dem Auftragen der Stimmpaste werden die Felle durch Nachziehen der Spannriemen gestimmt. Anschließend wird das Instrument ausprobiert.
    Abstract: Skins and bracing cords of the small, barrel-shaped drum madal are cut out of a cleaned and dried goatskin and put on the body carved in one piece. Both skins are smeared with the black tuning-paste. The skins are tuned by bracing up the bracing cords. Finally the drum is beaten by the drum-maker, a member of the Kullu caste.

    Abstract: The violin is roughly cut and carved out of a piece of timber, so that body, neck and peg-box are made in one piece. A skin is sticked in a wet condition on the lower rib and left to dry. The holes for inserting the pegs tightening the four strings into the peg-box as well as the hole for attaching the string to the bow are applied with a hot iron. The first string is put on the violin and tried with the bow.
