    Abstract: Die Hoch-Zeit des studentischen Korporationswesens und das Bestehen des deutschen Kolonialreichs von 1884 bis 1919 fielen zeitlich zusammen. Trotzdem hat sich bis heute weder die Kolonialgeschichtsschreibung noch die Studentenforschung eingehender mit dem Verhältnis von Burschenschaften als bekanntester Korporationsform und Kolonialismus beschäftigt. Andreas Bohne ändert das und definiert burschenschaftliche Verbände als imperiale pressure groups ohne expliziten kolonialen Auftrag. Er stellt fest: Burschenschafter agierten aktiv in kolonialen Arenen - gleichzeitig stehen sie exemplarisch für die bürgerlichen Rezipienten der kolonialen Agitation und Popularisierung, die bis heute nachwirkt

Diese zeigt sich auch in der Weitertradierung komplexitätsreduzierender Wissensproduktion sowohl über Behinderung als auch über Migration/Flucht: Es wird wiederholt über die Betroffenen, statt mit ihnen gesprochen. Robel Afeworki Abay widmet sich der Diskriminierung und Teilhabe an Erwerbsarbeit von BIPoC mit Behinderungserfahrungen und beleuchtet aus postkolonialen und intersektionalen Perspektiven die Zugangsbarrieren und Bewältigungsressourcen der Betroffenen. In seiner partizipativen Studie legt er dar, dass epistemische Gewalt hierbei als konstitutiver Bestandteil der Kolonialität des Wissens fungiert.

    Abstract: Das Verhältnis von Christentum und Kolonialismus ist vielschichtig und häufig undurchsichtig. Ohiniko M. Toffa entwickelt eine neue epistemische Lesart der deutschen Missions- und Kolonialgeschichte in Togo. Anhand der Missionskonzeption des Missionsinspektors Franz Michael Zahn wirft er einen diskursanalytischen Blick auf die unterschiedlichen Ordnungen, Entscheidungen und persönlichen Überlegungen. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt dabei auf den daraus abzuleitenden Werten und Normen. Diese Herangehensweise bringt eine neue Kolonialmoral hervor und liefert somit wichtige Anstöße für eine Dekolonialisierung des Wissens

    Abstract: Watchfulness shapes many Chicanxs` and other People of Color`s everyday lives in San Diego. Experiencing racist discrimination can lead to becoming vigilant, which frames their subjectivity. Focusing particularly on Chicanxs, we show how they seek to intervene against structural inequalities and threats in their lives, such as by re-claiming space, consciousness raising, participating in protests, and healing practices. We argue that contestations surrounding belonging create particularly watchful selves and that this is a significant aspect of borderland lifeworlds more broadly.The book advances the Anthropology of borders, coloniality, subjectivity, and race, as well as contributing to Chicano and Latino Studies, and Urban Studies. Pushing the boundaries of conventional approaches, this book is methodologically innovative by including team fieldwork, digital ethnography, and illustrative work by a local artist. It fills a gap in Security Studies by examining peer-to-peer vigilance beyond top-down surveillance and bottom-up "sousveillance," and expanding previous understandings of watchfulness as an ambivalent practice that can also express care and contribute to community building, as well as representing a "way of life."     Abstract: Examines the paradoxes of kinship in the lives of unauthorized African migrants as they struggle for mobility, employment, and citizenship in Europe.In a rapidly changing and highly precarious context, unauthorized African migrants turn to kinship in search of security, stability, and predictability. Through the exchange of identity documents between "siblings," assistance in obtaining such documentation through kinship networks, and marriages that provide access to citizenship, new assemblages of kinship are continually made and remade to navigate the shifting demands of European states. These new kinship relations, however, often prove unreliable, taking on new, unexpected dynamics in the face of codependency; they become more difficult to control than those who entered into such relations could have imagined. Through unusually close ethnographic work in West African migrant communities in Amsterdam, Apostolos Andrikopoulos reveals unseen dynamics of kinship through shared papers, the tensions of race and gender that develop in mutually beneficial marriages, and the vast, informal networks of people, information, and documentation on which migrants rely. Throughout Argonauts of West Africa, Andrikopoulos demonstrates how inequality, exclusionary practices, and the changing policies of an often-violent state demand innovative ways of doing kinship to successfully navigate complex migration routes.

    Abstract: Literaturmuseen basieren auf der Heroisierung von Einzelpersonen und repräsentieren dadurch ein weiß und männlich geprägtes Bild des literarischen Kulturerbes. Mit dem Fokus auf die Ausstellbarkeit von Literatur stellt sich das Literaturmuseumswesen jedoch nicht gegen das patriarchale und nationale Fundament, sondern trägt vielmehr zur Aufrechterhaltung des Systems bei. Vanessa Zeissig untersucht die Debattengeschichte und formuliert eine progressive Institutionskritik. Sie setzt sich mit institutionellen Machtstrukturen, Ökonomisierung und anderen Missständen auseinander, analysiert die Verantwortung von Gestaltung und fordert schließlich eine politisierte Transformation von Literaturmuseen

Die Untersuchung ermöglicht eine Systematisierung von Ausstellungsanalysen und -betrachtungen und besitzt darüber hinaus das Potenzial, die Forderung nach der gesellschaftlichen Öffnung und Relevanz der Institutionen zu unterstützen. Sie diskutiert Vorschläge für mögliche neue Formate und skizziert das Potenzial der Digitalisierung.

    Abstract: Der „11. März 2011“ oder „Fukushima“ wurde zu einem Synonym für eine Katastrophe und Unsicherheit über mögliche Folgen in der ganzen Welt. Ausgehend von der Frage nach der persönlichen und gesellschaftlichen Bedeutung der Ereignisse untersucht Wiebke Grimmig die Rolle der Gegenwartskünstler bei der Verarbeitung der Dreifachkatastrophe (Erdbeben, Tsunami und atomaren GAU) in Japan. Sie setzt ihren Fokus auf die emotionale Verarbeitung der Katastrophe durch ihre Gesprächspartner und bezieht deren biographischen Hintergrund, die Rolle der Gegenwartskunst in Japan und wirtschaftspolitische Interessen mit in ihre Betrachtung ein. Durch den ethnologischen Zugang einer 12-monatigen Feldforschung in Tokyo sowie in den unmittelbar betroffenen Gebieten der japanischen Ostküste und unter Einbezug der Tiefenanalyse narrativer Interviews gewinnt sie ein vielschichtiges Verständnis der Ereignisse und ihrer Folgen. Die Arbeit liefert mit Beschreibungen und Erläuterungen zu gesellschaftlichen Themen wie Emotion, Individualität, Macht, Resilienz, Politik, Wirtschaft und Kommunikation einen wichtigen Beitrag zur sozialwissenschaftlichen Katastrophenforschung.

Damit eröffnet sie neue Einblicke in die Gesellschaft im Stalinismus und schließt eine Lücke in der Erinnerungsgeschichte des Krieges, der das Selbstverständnis der russischen Gesellschaft bis heute prägt.

    Abstract: This research examines the social, political and economic history of Indians in Zanzibar in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, specifically between 1870s and 1963. Based on evidence collected from oral interviews and written archival documents, this research work argues that, the Indian migration history in Zanzibar, during this period, was impacted by their religious diversity, economic factors and social factors, as well as the British colonial interest. This research analysis yielded a number of the following key findings: First, there were heterogeneous migration patterns among the Indian migrants in East Africa, influenced by various factors including religion, caste, and the historical contexts in which particular migrants arrived. Second, numerous different social, physical, economic and political processes in India and East Africa motivated Indians to leave their homeland and form a migration community in Zanzibar from 1800 to 1963. Third, the desire to pass on their religion, traditions and customs to their descendants was a significant motivation for Indians to open their own private schools in Zanzibar. Fourth, the change of administration in 1890 had a major impact on the Indians in Zanzibar, especially investors who had already invested heavily in the local economy. Finally, despite their minority status compared to other communities such as Africans and Arabs, Indians participated in the politics of Zanzibar that led towards independence.

    Abstract: This is a study of how Donald J. Trump, his populist credentials notwithstanding, borrows without acknowledgment and stubbornly refuses to come to terms with his indebtedness. Taken together with mobility and conviviality, the principle of incompleteness enables us to distinguish between inclusionary and exclusionary forms of populism, and when it is fuelled by ambitions of superiority and zero-sum games of conquest.Nyamnjoh challenges the reader to reflect on how stifling frameworks of citizenship and belonging predicated upon hierarchies of humanity and mobility, and driven by a burning but elusive quest for completeness, can be constructively transcended by humility and conviviality inspired by taking incompleteness seriously. Nyamnjoh argues that the logic and practice of incompleteness is a healthy antidote to name-calling and scapegoating others as undesirable outsiders, depending on the brand of populism at play.Recognising incompleteness also helps to question sterile and problematic binaries such as those between elites and the impoverished masses among whom populists go to fish for political visibility, prominence and success.

    Abstract: This critical text is a timely ethnography of how global powers, local resistance, and capital flows are shaping contemporary African foodways. Ghana was one of the first countries targeted by a group of US donors and agribusiness corporations that funded an ambitious plan to develop genetically modified (GM) crops for African farmers. The collective believed that GM crops would help farmers increase their yields and help spark a "new" Green Revolution on the continent. Soon after the project began in Ghana, a nationwide food sovereignty movement emerged in opposition to GM crops. Today, in spite of impressive efforts and investments by proponents, only two GM crops remain in the pipeline. Why, after years of preparation, millions of dollars of funding, and multiple policy reforms, did these megaprojects effectively come to a halt? One of the first ethnographies to take on the question of GM crops in the African context, We Are Not Starving: The Struggle for Food Sovereignty in Ghana blends archival analysis, interviews, and participant observation with Ghanaian scientists, farmers, activists, and officials. Ultimately the text aims to illuminate why GM crops have animated the country and to highlight how their introduction has opened an opportunity to air grievances about the systematic de-valuing and exploitation of African land, labor, and knowledge that have been centuries in the making. In foregrounding West Papuans' perspectives, the author shows that it is the body politic's unflagging determination and hope, rather than military might or influential allies, that form the movement's most unifying and powerful force for independence.This book examines the many intertwining strands of decolonization in Melanesia.     Abstract: Orthodoxe Christen aus Äthiopien und europäische Protestanten bildeten bereits seit dem Zeitalter der Reformation ein Beziehungsgeflecht. Diese Konfessionen beeinflussten sich gegenseitig und bedingten sich auf diese Weise in ihrem historischen Werden mit. Das Werk erschließt erstmals die vielfältigen Wechselwirkungen von äthiopisch-orthodoxem Christentum und europäischem Protestantismus, sodass die vermeintliche Selbstverständlichkeit der auch wissenschaftlichen Abgrenzung dieser beiden Varianten in Frage gestellt wird, indem der Zeitraum vom 16. bis zum frühen 20. Jahrhundert zum Forschungsgegenstand gemacht wird.Dieser Beitrag bietet einen neuen Blick auf die Kirchengeschichte der Neuzeit und zeigt, auf welche Weise konfessionell und kulturell divergente Varianten des Christentums Kontinent übergreifend miteinander verknüpft waren. Er leistet einen grundlegenden Beitrag zur Geschichte des globalen Christentums und der Interkulturellen Theologie.

    Abstract: Im Zuge des Denkmalsturzes ehemaliger Sklavenhalter werden auch westliche Konzepte auf ihren Beitrag zu Rassismus und Unterdrückung hin untersucht. Ein solches Konzept ist der fest im europäischen Denken verankerte Begriff "Barbarei". "Barbarei" ist der zentrale Begriff für die Beschreibung anderer Völker, die seit der Antike die Abwertung anderer Kulturen markiert und immer wieder neu bestimmt wird. In der europäischen Geschichte ist "Barbarei" auf das Engste mit dem Kolonialismus verbunden und muss somit als dessen Komplize und Erbe verstanden werden. "Barbarei" steht für das "Andere" westlicher Ordnung und zivilisierter Werte. Man beklagt damit furchtbare Verbrechen und verurteilt sie als moralisch besonders verwerflich. Zurückgreifen können diese politischen Verwendungsweisen auf eine lange Geschichte theoretischer Konzepte der "Barbarei"
