    Kurzfassung: Cotton is put into the machine between two rollers which revolve in opposite directions. The cotton fibres are transported through these rollers and are thus separated from the seeds which had remained on them. The upper, thinner iron roller is operated with the feet by means of a connecting rod the lower wooden roller is set in motion by means of a crank handle.

The finished warp is strung between a warp-beam and a breast-beam which is fixed to the body of the weaver. A sword is used when weaving to tighten the weft and to increase the shed which is formed by the rising and falling of the heddle.

Die Schäfte werden mit den Tritten verbunden, und nach dem Ordnen der Kette wird mit dem Weben begonnen. Die Mutter hilft bei der Arbeit.
    Kurzfassung: The end loops of the lease in the fixed warp are cut, and the crossed warp-threads alternately threaded into the heddles of the front and back shafts. Then the warp threads are threaded into the reed by means of a procupine quill. The warp is fixed on to the frame of the loom and bound firmly to a peg which is stuck behind the loom and serves as warp-beam. The shafts are connected with the pedals, the weaving process starts after arranging the warp.

    Kurzfassung: Ein Mädchen aus Ban Alm stellt aus weißen Hühnerfedern auf einem Bogen, der mit einer aus Zwirnsfaden bestehenden Doppelsehne bespannt ist, eine Schnur her. Die fertige Zierschnur wird rot gefärbt und an einem Ende mit einer mehrfarbigen Quaste aus Baumwollfäden versehen.
    Kurzfassung: Two cotton threads are strung on a bamboo bow, the lower part of a small chicken feather the quill of which has been cut off is stuck between the two threads. The feather is wound around both threads and the top of the feather is again stuck between the two threads. The feather which has thus been fixed to the threads is pushed aside with a needle. The finished cord is dyed red and gets a multicoloured tassel of cotton threads attached to one end.

    Kurzfassung: Nachdem ein älterer Mann aus Ban Alm Bambusstreifen zubereitet hat, umflicht er zur Verstärkung einen bereits fertiggestellten Bambuskorb: den Boden und den oberen Teil des Korbes in randparalleler Flechttechnik und die untere Korbhälfte mit einem offenen Dreirichtungsgeflecht. Der Korbdeckel wird in Diagonalgeflecht hergestellt.
    Kurzfassung: A bamboo basket, which is already finished is given a plaited coat to strengthen it. The plaitings round the bottom and the upper half of the basket run parallel to the edges whereas that covering the lower half is an open three-directional plaiting. A diagonal plaiting technique is used to make the lid.

    Kurzfassung: Befestigen einiger Fasern am Haken der Spindelspitze, Herstellung kurzer Fadenlängen durch Drehungen der Spindel, Abrollen der Spindel auf dem Oberschenkel und freie Rotation am Faden, mit den Fingern kontinuierliches Nachziehen von Fasern und deren Verdrehung durch die rotierende Spindel, Aufwickeln fertig gesponnener Fadenlängen auf die Spindel. Die Arbeiten werden von einem Mädchen aus Ban Alm ausgeführt.
    Kurzfassung: The spinner holds a spinning roll in her left hand, fixes a few fibres into the hook of the spindle point and makes a short thread by rotating the spindle in her hand. After this, she rolls the spindle on her tigh and lets it rotate freely on the thread. She continually draws out fibres and twists them by means of the rotating spindle. When the thread is spun it is spun it is wound on the spindle.

    Kurzfassung: Two threads with white seed pearls and two strings consisting of seven cotton threads each are strung on a bamboo bow in the manner of a warp. A red cotton thread is passed through the warp by hand. Thus a ribbon is made the edges of which are formed by the two rows of pearls. The end of the ribbon is finally decorated with a tassel of variously coloured cotton threads.

    Kurzfassung: Thread from a wholly spun spindle is wound into a ball. The thread from the ball runs through a hollow bamboo stick which is held in the hand; then it is wound into a skein with the help of a double-T-shaped handreel. The skein is taken off the reel, starched in a solution of rice flour, and then strung between two poles to dry. When the skein is dry it is put on a reel and the thread is unwound into a basket. Six thread-beams are knocked into the ground and two women fix the warp.

Dann trägt sie das Negativmuster in Wachs mit Batikfeder auf und färbt den Stoff in Indigo blau. Nach Auskochen des Wachses legt sie das Tuch auf die Trockenstange.
    Kurzfassung: A lattice pattern is pressed into the undyed cotton cloth, and then the negative of a pattern is drawn in wax with the batik pen. The cloth is then dyed blue in indigo, and the wax is finally melted out by boiling.

    Kurzfassung: The gradual transformation of flax-stalks into spinning fibres is shown at different working places on the domain of a farm in St. Magdalena in the Gsieser valley of South Tyrol. First of all, the seminal capsules are removed from the stalks. This work is carried out in the feeding house. After this the stalks - now without capsules - are spread out over grass in thin layers where they go through the decaying process under the influence of the weather - this process is not shown in the film. In a drying pit, which lies apart from the farm, the stalks are then dried and broken and are, finally, combed on the courtyard.

    Kurzfassung: Weidenruten werden geschnitten, in drei Teile gesplissen und angespitzt. Stroh wird mit einer hölzernen Harke ausgekämmt, die Ähren werden abgeschnitten. Der Korb wird aus einer einzigen Strohwulstspirale gebildet, die, um eine gleichmäßige Dicke zu erreichen, durch einen Ring aus Kuhhorn gezogen wird. Der Wulst wird mit Weidenruten umflochten. Es entsteht zuerst die Kuppel, dann der zylindrische Schaft mit dem Flugloch. Der Korb ist etwa 38 cm hoch.

    Kurzfassung: In einer Bauernstube in Mardorf sitzen drei Mädchen und versehen ungefärbte Eier mit geometrischen und pflanzlichen Ornamenten sowie mit Sprüchen. Zum Verzieren verwenden sie flüssiges Bienenwachs und Schreibfedern. Die Eier werden in heiße Farbbrühe getaucht. Anschließend wird das Wachs mit einem weichen Tuch abgerieben. Die Ornamente erscheinen weiß auf farbigem Grund.
    Kurzfassung: In a farmhouse in Mardorf three girls decorate eggs with geometric or plant ornaments and with sayings using liquid beeswax and pens. The eggs are dipped into hot dye. Afterwards the wax is rubbed off with a smooth cloth. The ornaments occur white on a coloured ground.

    Kurzfassung: Withies are cut, split into three parts and pointed. Rye straw is combed out with a wooden rake, the ears are cut off. The beehive is coiled from a single bundle of straw, which is pulled through a template ring made of cow horn to ensure uniformity of size. The basketry technique is known as "wrapped and pierced coiling" whereby the coil is wrapped and interlocked with the split withies. The bell top is shaped first, followed by the cylindrical walls with the flight entrance for the bees. The finished skep is about 38 cm high.

    Kurzfassung: Ein alter Mann schlägt von einer Ölpalme Äste herunter. Er trennt die Blätter von der Mittelrippe, spaltet und teilt diese in etwa 75 cm große Stücke. Dann beginnt die weitere Spaltarbeit und das Glattschaben. Aus den Streifen flicht der Alte in randparallelem Flechten eine Matte mit 6bindiger Köperbindung. Die Matte wird in einen Doppelreifen eingespannt und zu einer Schale von ca. 60 cm Durchmesser geformt. Abschließend wird die Worfelschale im Gebrauch gezeigt.
    Kurzfassung: An old Nalu demonstrates the creation of a winnowing dish. He cuts branches from an oil palm tree, removes the leaf material, and splits the stems into long pieces. From these strips he plaits a mat which eventually becomes the winnowing dish. The finished product is shown in use.
