    Abstract: Nachdem sie Ton geholt und aufbereitet hat, töpfert eine Frau in Spiralwulsttechnik eine Sagobreischale. Nach zwei Tagen glättet ihr Ehemann die Gefäßoberfläche und ritzt Muster ein. Nach dem Brennen im Brennhaufen bemalt er die Schale mit roter, gelber und weißer Farbe.
    Abstract: The film shows how a clay dish is being made starting with the digging of the raw material and following up the process to the firing and painting. A woman builds up the pot using a coiling technique, without any tools other than her hands. To decorate it her husband uses a cutting and scratching technique which differs from genuine chip-carving. The pot is fired in an open fire (bonfire). Subsequently the husband paints the pattern of the conical dish with earth pigments.

    Abstract: Der Töpfer treibt einen Lehmklumpen über eine angestaubte Kalotte. Nach kurzem Abtrocknen wird der Gefäßteil auf einer Töpferscheibe weiterbearbeitet. Tonwülste werden darübergelegt und miteinander verschmiert. Ehe zwei Henkel aus Tonwülsten aufgesetzt werden, glättet und verziert der Töpfer die von neuem angefeuchtete Oberfläche des Gefäßes mit einem Bambusstäbchen.
    Abstract: The potter drives a lump of clay over a dusty calotte. After a short drying period the part of the receptacle is worked further on the potter's wheel. Clay lumps are placed over this and they are smeared together. Before two handles formed from lumps of clay are set, the potter smooths and decorates the redampened surface of the receptacle with a bamboo stick.

    Abstract: Märkte und Wallfahrten unterbrechen die Monotonie des ländlichen Arbeitsalltags. Anhand verschiedener handwerklicher Erzeugnisse, die auf den Märkten zum Verkauf angeboten werden, erläutert der Film die kulturellen Traditionen, wirtschaftlichen Verhältnisse und interethnischen Beziehungen der verschiedenen Bevölkerungsgruppen in Rumänien. Die Herstellung einzelner Gebrauchsgegenstände wird zudem dokumentiert.
    Abstract: Fairs and pilgrimages break the monotony of the rural everyday work. By means of various handicraft products which are offered for sale on these markets the film explains the cultural traditions, economic circumstances and interethnic relations of the different population groups in Romania. The film also shows how some of these handicraft products are made.

He chooses as the citation promising luck the sentence: "The Light of the Moon - the wonderful salvation of the World." As a generous calligraphy the kakizome is written on the base; finally it is signed by the artist and furnished with name and pseudonym seal.

Das fertige Shikishi signiert er mit seinem Künstlernamen.

    Abstract: Nach Auswahl und Fällen eines Baumes beim Dorf Mayongo und der Geschenkübergabe an den Holzschnitzer tritt kurz eine Gruppe Jugendlicher mit einer Grasmaske auf. Dem Aushöhlen und Zurichten der Maske mit Wange, Schnabel und "Hörnern" folgt die Verzierung mit Erdfarben und Brandmalerei. Nach dem Flechten einer Halskrause und der Herstellung eines Bastkleides Vorführung der Maske.
    Abstract: The procedure begins with circling round the chosen tree, followed by its felling; then come the handing over of gifts to the sculptor, and the marking and cutting to length of the section of tree trunk reserved for the mask. In the meanwhile, a group of young men has appeared with a grass mask. Then the block of wood is hollowed out to provide room for the bearer of the mask's head, the cheeks and beak are carved, and a slit is pierced for the eyes. Holes are burned into the neck-edge with the glowing end of a spear. Once the "horns" are made, the mask is painted and the neck collar knotted. Ears and eyes are also fitted on. Finally, a mask-dress is made with strips of bast, and the finishing touch consists in sewing the collar on to the neck-part of the mask. Right at the end, one of the two sculptors slips the mask on and makes a short appearance.

    Abstract: Unter eine erregte Menschenmenge mischen sich Masken mit ihrem Gefolge. Sie zeigen die für sie jeweils charakteristischen Bewegungstypen. Einzelne Begleiter zeichnen sich durch Blatt- und Bastwedel sowie bestimmte Gesten und Tanzschritte aus. Abschließend tanzen und singen die Frauen des Dorfes.
    Abstract: At the end of the Yams festival, which for the northern Dan separates the old year from the new year, the masks leave the bush and come down from the mountains to the village. They dance outside the village and then move over the country to greet the government officials. On the way each mask shows for our team typical parts from their repertoire.

    Abstract: This singing mask with its beak-shaped nose, from which a black beard of monkey-hair hangs down, is found in other functions as well, e. g. with the Konor tribe as one of the highest ranking spirits in the boys's circumcision camp. In Maple village it is explained as a Tukan mask. The Tukan is the king of the birds and is supposed to have brought the oil-palm to the Dan. Therefore the Tukan is mentioned in the songs of the mask.

    Abstract: The Gere (Kran) have male dancing masks and female singing masks. In contrast to the swift moving mask-dances of other tribes of the Ivory-coast, like the Baule or the Guro, the Gere mask dances are reticent. The costumes are impressive with puffy bast skirts and luxurious feather ornaments. The masks form a secret organization. They also practice jurisdiction, lead warriors into war and protect bush and river against abuse.

This humorous dancing was created only a few years ago, when two boys, coming back from hunting, claimed that they had seen chimps dancing on a rock.     Abstract: The Goli is a mask performance of three or four different pairs of masks. The two masks of each pair try to surpass each other in dancing. The musicians accompany their songs with hot rhythms of the rattle-calabash. Although the young Baule learned the Goli from a neighbouring tribe, it became their most important mask performance.

    Abstract: This film documents the celebration of Halloween in the town of State College, Central Pennsylvania, on Monday, October 31, 1966. The film depicts typical Halloween activities in several families, in an elementary school and in the community, including an early-evening parade on the main street of the town. The film was especially produced as a contribution to the international project of the Encyclopaedia Cinematographica on children's customs and games in various countries.

    Abstract: Im Dorf Nouanoufla tanzen, von Trommeln begleitet, nacheinander vier Masken, deren Schnitzereien sich auf Erzählungen der Guro beziehen.
    Abstract: The Zauli is a festive dance of masks during which ten or more masks appear one after the other. They demonstrate the Guro's great skill in dancing by their playing together with the rhythms of a drum ensemble. With the white flybrushes which the dancer holds in either hand he demonstrates to the drummers the way in which he intends to dance. The masks are of a modern style, vividly coloured, and with little figures carved on top.
