    Abstract: Ein Buschmann fertigt aus einem Ziegenknochen eine Tabakspfeife an. Beide Gelenkhöcker werden abgeschnitten, in die schmale Öffnung des Mundstücks werden einige Wollfäden appliziert, und der Knochen wird mit Sehnen umwickelt. Anschließend raucht der Mann seine neue Pfeife an.
    Abstract: The film shows a Bushman making a pipe from a goat's bone. The man cuts off the two condyles, inserts several wool threads into the small opening of the mouthpiece and wraps the bone with sinew. Then he smokes his new pipe.

    Abstract: Ein junger Mann tötet eine Schildkröte. Mit Hilfe eines Messers perforiert er den Rückenpanzer, bricht ihn ab und legt das Fleisch ins Feuer. Er entschärft den Rand des Panzerdeckels und schmirgelt die Innenfläche mit Sand. Der fertige Löffel wird ausprobiert: Ein alter Mann und der junge löffeln eine Wassermelone aus. Auch das Fleisch wird gegessen. Während der Arbeit rauchen beide Männer abwechselnd eine Tabakspfeife.
    Abstract: The Bushmen manufacture their household gear as far as possible from natural materials. To transfer liquid foods they use a special spoon made from the shell of a tortoise. The film shows the technique of making the spoon.

    Abstract: Zwei Buschmänner machen mit dem Springhasenspeer einen Springhasen in seinem Bau aus, haken das Tier mit dem Speer fest und graben es aus. Der Springhase wird zubereitet und über Holzkohle gegart. Während der Wartezeit behandelt der eine Jäger seinen über Halsschmerzen klagenden Jagdgefährten. Er ritzt die Haut des Kranken an der Brust mit einer Rasierklinge und reibt Fett und Holzkohlenasche in die Schnittwunden; dann massiert er Oberkörper und Hals.
    Abstract: Two Bushmen are searching for a springhare warren. After some time one hunter succeeds in putting up and locating a springhare in his warren with the springhare spear. His compagnon hooks the animal and the man digs it out. The animal is disemboweled, sinews, bones and other usable parts are put away. The hare is singed in an open fire, then placed in a pit in the ground and cooked covered with hot charcoal. In the meantime the hunter tattoos his fellow suffering from a sore throat. He rubs a specific "medicinal" fat and ashes into the wounds, then given the man a massage. The treatment takes a long times and when it comes to an end, the hare is properly cooked. The two hunters eat the hare joined by a third man who had been waiting for them in the bush.

    Abstract: Ein G/wi-Buschmann schneidet aus Zweigen zwei etwa 30 cm lange Stäbchen und einen kleineren, etwa 5 cm langen Stab. Die Hölzer werden entrindet, dekoriert, eingefettet und geschwärzt. Abschließend werden sie auf einen Sehnenfaden aufgefädelt bzw. angebunden und können nun von der Tochter als eine Art Kette getragen werden.
    Abstract: A Bushman cuts from branches two sticks 30 cm long and one stick 5 cm long. He removes the bark, decorates the sticks, smears them with fat and blackens them. The sticks are tied one after another to a piece of sinew and so will be used by the man's daughter to perform her tasks in the ceremony of initiation. After the initiation, the girl will wear them as a kind of necklace.

    Abstract: Men assembled for the grasshopper game are grunting and stamping a strict rhythm which determines when each man in turn jumps sideways over the back of the man in the centre. It is considered to be a mistake if a man is unprepared for the jump or gets out of rhythm. Such mistakes take place if the jumper's improvised steps in between the individual jumps are too extravagant. The centre man reprimands a player for his distracting behaviour.

    Abstract: Fünftägige Zeremonie für eine Initiandin beim Einsetzen der Menarche. Das Mädchen wird in einer isolierten Einzelhütte untergebracht. Am fünften Tag wird es geschmückt und verläßt die Hütte, während Männer und Frauen einen Fruchtbarkeitstanz aufführen.
    Abstract: The film, a compressed version of a five day ritual, shows an initiate sitting in her hut being stripped of her jewellery, capped, and painted. She is then carried to an especially built isolation hut and placed on grass while women dance the eland dance around it. Her period of isolation and teaching ends on the fifth day when she is turned around, washed, decorated, anointed, and face-painted to resemble a gemsbok brow. She is ritually introduced to all the objects of her daily life and to her foods and induced to shoot at a gemsbok shield with a man's especially protected weapon. Her ritual being a rebirth, the girl is led out of the hut and assisted in walking while men and women dance the eland-bull-fertility dance around the hut. Next day she is led round the village to receive presents, to meet the people and bring luck to their homes.

Dann schleudern sie mit großer Kraft dünne Holzstöcke gegen die abgeflachte Vorderseite des Sandhaufens, wovon diese bei geschicktem Wurf in Wurfrichtung abprallen und in hohem Bogen weiterfliegen. Das Spiel ist kein Wettstreit, sondern eine Geschicklichkeitsübung. Ein Teil des Films zeigt die athletischen Bewegungen der Männer in Zeitdehnung.

    Abstract: Jäger kommen mit reicher Beute ins Dorf. Ein Stück Fleisch wird rituell geröstet und von einer Initiandin verspeist. Während des Kauens spuckt sie in die Hand ihrer Lehrerin, die den Speichel auf Bauch und Hals der Initiandin verreibt und sie dadurch von diesem Fleischverbot befreit.
    Abstract: Hunters, laden with meat, arrive in the village and are feted by the women. They are given water from ostrich-eggshell containers. A female initiate is led ceremonially from her isolation hut to "see" the meat. A hunter gives her teacher a piece, part of which is ritually roasted, sprinkled with scrapings from two medicines suspended in a bundle around her neck and fed to her; the rest is cooked. While chewing it, she spits on her teacher's hand who, with this saliva, massages the initiate's stomach and throat thus releasing her from this meat taboo.

    Abstract: Women return to the village with bundles of grass and loads of branches of dead wood. In a circle the women make holes for the long branches with their digging sticks, and at the top incline these towards each other. Then they place numerous smaller branches between this frame-work in such a way that they all support each other. They thatch the frame by covering it with tussocks of grass, starting at the bottom and completing the task at the top. Finally they clean the sand inside the hut and smooth it down to make the hut ready for occupation.

    Abstract: "Jäger" stellen sich im Kreis auf, mit der "Oryx-Antilope" in der Mitte, die gegen ihre Verfolger Angriffe und Scheinangriffe vorführt. Die "Jäger" versuchen, diesen durch Gegenbewegungen zu entgehen, aber auch sie zu treffen (strikter Rhythmus durch Fußstampfen und lautes Exhalieren). Bei dem Spiel kam es zu einer langen Auseinandersetzung.
    Abstract: A group of men, assembled more or less in a circle, are playing the gemsbok game with one of them, the "gemsbok", in the centre. He mounts attacks and mok-attacks against his assailants, the "hunters", who try to anticipate his intention and not only carry out the correct counter movements, but who also bait him. All this is done in a dancing manner, in accordance with a strict rhythmic pattern, produced by the vocal accompaniment of the players. When one of the "hunters" runs a course which crosses the path of another, who is the target of the "gemsbok", the game is stopped with loud words of protest. The new game that then starts becomes more co-ordinated and aesthetically more beautiful.

Mit einem Tatauierungsmesser bringt sie feine Schnitte an Stirn und Schläfen einer jungen Frau an. In die Schnittwunde reibt sie die Paste, die nach dem Verheilen eine dauernde Schwärzung verursacht.

    Abstract: An elder and his wife pack the last of their belongings, rise and join the other villagers in readiness for departure. In a straight line women, children, and old men depart while the men hive off to one side to hunt. Small children are carried in satchels, older ones walk and are later, when tired, carried by their maternal uncles. Along their route the women stop to collect "veld" food. They reach their predetermined site, clear it, collect firewood, arect shelters and sleeping nests. The patriarch builds a fire from which all the others are lit. The hunters arrive later to a place worthy of human habitation.

    Abstract: Under a large tree with a strong overhanging branch boys clear the ground. Far out over their clearing they suspend from the branch a swing-like loop and adjust it so that a boy sitting in it touches the ground with his feet. The "ostrich" sitting in the swing rapidly runs in the circle prescribed or permitted by the swing while another tries to catch him. The twisting strap of the swing lifts the "ostrich" so that he just barely touches the ground. His rapid gait with lifted knees thus resembles that of the ostrich.

There are mock-charges and regular charges by the "gemsbok" and correct and faulty avoidances by the "hunters". Several times a man is caught by the "gemsbok" as the group continously changes sides with him. This "hit", however, does not induce the men to change the "gemsbok". This takes place later without apparent reason. The game is beautifully played in strict adherence to rhythm by the "hunters" and the "gemsbok".

    Abstract: Men are playing the badger game during which rhythmically determined attacks are made by the "badger", crawling on the ground. Similar rhythmically determined avoidance movements, associated with verbal and physical baiting of the "badger", are carried out by the "hunters". The group of men gives the appearence of a swinging dancing rhythmical whole. When it threatens to disintegrate slightly the "badger" - an old man - stops the game to reprimand his players, before resuming to a lovely co-ordinated finish.

In die Vorderkante des Panzers bohrt sie kleine Löcher, in denen sie Lederriemen befestigt. Auf diese zieht sie Perlen aus Straußeneierschalen. Die Dose füllt sie mit einem Puder aus aromatischen Kräutern und mit einer Puderquaste aus Fell.
    Abstract: A gluey putty-like substance is prepared from the bark of a shrub by a woman who employs this to close the rear end of a small tortoise shell. Into the front edge of the shell she drills various holes, into which she threads small leather tassels. Rows of ostrich-eggshell beads are then strung onto these. The "compact" completed, the woman fills it with ground aromatic herbs and a fur "powder puff".

This game consists of mime and is considered to represent a hunter killing an animal or vice versa. The gestures are meaningful, complementary or antagonistic. Kills are recorded with a flicking movement of the arm in the air.

    Abstract: The film, a compression of several hours, begins before everyone has arrived at the scene of dancing. Music and rhythm are still disorganized. Slowly seriousness creeps into the atmosphere and men shuffling around the circle begin to administer to the women by placing their hands on the latter's heads or shoulders, thereby taking into their bodies the evil with which the harmful God /oa has charged the women. Men in a trance become evident. Their wailing prayers are heard. Explosively retching, they expel the evil they have taken into their bodies from the women.
