    Abstract: "After the Second World War, Yugoslavia's small regional cities represented a challenge for the new socialist state. These cities' older buildings, local historic sites, and low-quality housing clashed with socialism's promises and ideals. How would the state transform these cities' everyday neighborhoods? In the Slovene republic's capital city of Ljubljana, the Trnovo neighborhood embodied this challenge through its modest housing, small medieval section, vast gardens, acclaimed interwar architecture, and iconic local reputation. Imagining Slovene Socialist Modernity explores how urban planners, architects, historic preservationists, neighborhood residents, and even folklorists transformed this beloved neighborhood into a Slovene socialist city district. Aplenc demonstrates that this urban redesign centered on republic-level interpretations of a Yugoslav socialist built environment, versus a re-envisioned Slovene national past or design style. Überwachungskameras, Bänke mit geneigter Sitzfläche oder trennenden Armlehnen, auf denen man nicht schlafen kann, und andere subtile Maßnahmen erschweren insbesondere sozial marginalisierten Menschen wie Obdachlosen das Leben in der Stadt.Gegen diese Tendenz führt Labbé die Notwendigkeit ins Feld, eine Stadt neu zu erfinden, die sich an uns alle richtet. Anstelle von ausschließenden Mechanismen braucht es Räume, in denen wir unsere Verbindungen wieder enger knüpfen können.     Abstract: Verlagsinfo: Dieser Band will mit dem Begriff des 'Postmigrant Turn' eine Debatte anstoßen: Wie kann die postmigrantische Perspektive für kulturwissenschaftliche Untersuchungen als Analysekategorie nutzbar gemacht werden? Die Argumentation für eine postmigrantische Theoriewende soll der Steigerung von Sichtbarkeit marginalisierter künstlerischer Praktiken und Stimmen zuarbeiten und - an der Schnittstelle von Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft - kritische wie produktive Diskussionen rund um das Themenfeld Postmigration anstoßen. Deshalb sollen auch solche Stimmen zu Wort kommen, die sich außerhalb des Universitären mit der Bezeichnung 'postmigrantisch' identifizieren und die noch stärker in akademische Diskurse Eingang finden sollten. Ähnlich der postkolonialen Perspektive wird die postmigrantische Linse zur Betrachtung gesellschaftlicher (Macht-)Strukturen herangezogen. Aus der Position der Critical-Whiteness-Forschung geht es ferner darum, einen Beitrag zur (An-)Erkennung von strukturellem und institutionellem Rassismus zu leisten und Diskurshoheiten einer weißen Dominanzgesellschaft zu hinterfragen. Interessanterweise bedienen sich in den letzten Jahren immer häufiger Autor*innen, Künstler*innen, Schreibkollektive und Theater des Terminus der Postmigration, teilweise wird er als Selbstbeschreibung und Kampfbegriff mit selbstermächtigendem Potenzial verwendet. Postmigration als Label eines weiß-dominierten Buchmarktes oder als aktivistische Selbstpositionierung - eine umfassende Theoretisierung wie kritische Reflexion der Verwendung des Begriffs ist die Aufgabe einer engagierten Kulturwissenschaft zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts. Die zentralen Fragen des Bandes lauten: Was bedeutet ein Postmigrant Turn? Welche Gegenstände nimmt er in den Fokus? Welche Analysemerkmale hält er bereit?     Abstract: Städtische Verwaltungen und Regierungen sind zunehmend besessen vom "Image" ihrer Stadt und stürzen sich in einen Vermarktungswettbewerb, der auf Tourismus, Investoren und Immobilienmärkte ausgerichtet ist. Die Menschen, die in der Stadt leben, werden dabei zum Ziel architektonischer Verdrängungsmaßnahmen. Mickaël Labbé zeigt, wie ganze Bevölkerungsteile durch eine kaum wahrnehmbare Architektur der Verachtung als unerwünscht ausgeschlossen werden. Überwachungskameras, Bänke mit geneigter Sitzfläche oder trennenden Armlehnen, auf denen man nicht schlafen kann, und andere subtile Maßnahmen erschweren insbesondere sozial marginalisierten Menschen wie Obdachlosen das Leben in der Stadt.Gegen diese Tendenz führt Labbé die Notwendigkeit ins Feld, eine Stadt neu zu erfinden, die sich an uns alle richtet. Anstelle von ausschließenden Mechanismen braucht es Räume, in denen wir unsere Verbindungen wieder enger knüpfen können. Denn eine Stadt, die nicht mehr auf ihre gemeinschaftliche Nutzung ausgerichtet ist, die nur aus homogenen Ghettos besteht, wo wir einander nicht mehr konfrontativ und in aller Unterschiedlichkeit begegnen können, ist ein Verlust für uns alle.Labbé beschreibt funktionierende Beispiele einer "Architektur der Anerkennung" und plädiert für eine Wiederaneignung des öffentlichen Raums

    Abstract: The analysis and understanding of multilingualism, and its relationship to identity in the face of globalization, migration and the increasing dominance of English as a lingua franca, makes it a complex and challenging problem that requires insights from a range of disciplines. With reference to a variety of languages and contexts, this book offers fascinating insights into multilingual identity from a team of world-renowned scholars, working from a range of different theoretical and methodological perspectives. Three overarching themes are explored - situatedness, identity practices, and investment - and detailed case studies from different linguistic and cultural contexts are included throughout. The chapter authors' consideration of 'multilingualism-as-resource' challenges the conception of 'multilingualism-as-problem', which has dogged so much political thinking in late modernity. The studies offer a critical lens on the types of linguistic repertoire that are celebrated and valued, and introduce the policy implications of their findings for education and wider social issues
