    Abstract: This book seeks to expand some of the existing, often western and Global North facing, scholarship in the area of Disability and Media Studies to include African perspectives. Featuring predominantly Africa-based contributors, it studies an array of topics on disability and media in Africa, including issues of social media, media ethics, including marginalised voices in the media, and disability representation in the media. Tafadzwa Rugoho PhD is currently at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He was a lecturer at Great Zimbabwe University in the Department of Development Studies. Tafadzwa holds an MA in Policy Studies, an MSc in Development, an MSc in Strategic Management and a BSc in Sociology. He has authored more than 25 book chapters as well as a number of journal papers on disability issues. Tafadzwa has presented several papers at local and international research conferences in this area over the past five years. Tafadzwa is also a guest lecturer at the University of Pretoria, where he teaches Sexuality and social media. He coauthored a book titled Sexual and Reproductive Health of Adolescents with Disabilities.

    Abstract: In diesem Open-Access-Buch geht es um die Frage, wie Leser*innen in Deutschland automatisiert generierte Nachrichten wahrnehmen und welche Bedeutung sie den Verfahren im Journalismus zuschreiben. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Frage, ob das Publikum dem automatisierten Journalismus vertraut und welche Einflussfaktoren bei dieser Entscheidung eine Rolle spielen. Zur empirischen Überprüfung wurden Focus Groups mit gezielt rekrutierten Leser*innen eingesetzt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass es keine monokausalen Antworten auf die Frage nach dem Vertrauen der Lesenden in automatisierten Journalismus gibt. Grundsätzlich stehen sie dem Technologieeinsatz neutral und gleichzeitig neugierig sowie – vor allem mit Blick auf die Zukunft – skeptisch gegenüber. Die Teilnehmenden fordern einen transparenten Umgang der Medienorganisationen mit automatisierter Berichterstattung und wollen mehr Informationen zum Einsatz, zur Verbreitung und zur Technologie haben. Als Einflussfaktoren auf die Vertrauensbewertung wurden ausgewählte Personen- sowie Text- und Publikationsmerkmale und Eigenschaften des Untersuchungsgegenstands getestet. Hohe Relevanz haben erkennbar die Angst vor gezielter Manipulation, die individuellen Vorstellungen über Künstliche Intelligenzen sowie die Kontingenz von Texten. Die Autorin Theresa Körner hat 2023 am Institut für Kommunikationswissenschaft der Otto-Friedrich Universität Bamberg zum Thema Vertrauen der Lesenden in Automatisierten Journalismus promoviert.

    Abstract: Diese Dissertation aus der Sparte der Reflexiven Bibliometrie erforscht die Rückwirkungen der Verwendung von quantitativen Indikatoren in der Wissenschaftsevaluation auf die Wissensproduktion und Forschungsqualität in der Astronomie. Eine qualitative Analyse der strukturellen Bedingungen der akamdeischen Astronomie anhand des Rational Choice Frameworks führen zur Beobachtung eines "Evaluation Gap" zwischen dem, was Indikatoren messen und dem, was Forscher unter Forschungsqualität verstehen. Die Analyse offenbart weiters einen Balanceakt, in dem Astronomen zwischen Publikationsdruck und Forschungsintegrität Kompromisse finden. Weiterführende quantitative Untersuchungen unter Einbezug von Organisational Culture Theories und Self-Determination Theory zeigen, dass kontrollierte Formen von Motivation zu einem erhöhten Publikationsdruck und wissenschaftlichem Fehlverhalten führen, während autonome Formen von Motivation das Gegenteil bewirken. Schließlich skizziert die Arbeit Wege zur Transformation der Forschungskultur hin zu mehr Vielfalt und Partizipation, einschließlich der Einführung offener Wissensmanagement-Infrastrukturen und kontinuierlicher, reflexiver Evaluationsprozesse.
    Abstract: This dissertation from the field of Reflexive Bibliometrics, investigates the constitutive effects of utilizing quantitative metrics in research evaluation on knowledge production and research quality in astronomy. Embedded in the Rational Choice Framework to analyze the structural conditions within academic astronomy, a qualitative analysis reveals an "Evaluation Gap" between what metrics measure and researchers' perceptions of research quality. Furthermore, the analysis unveils a balancing act where astronomers navigate compromises between publication pressures and research integrity. Subsequent quantitative analyses, incorporating Organizational Culture Theories and Self-Determination Theory, demonstrate that controlled forms of motivation exacerbate publication pressure and scientific misconduct, while autonomous motivations yield contrasting effects. Lastly, the study outlines pathways towards transforming research culture towards greater diversity and participation, including the adoption of open knowledge management infrastructures and continuous, reflexive evaluation processes.

    Abstract: This open access textbook introduces and defines digital humanism from a diverse range of disciplines. Following the 2019 Vienna Manifesto, the book calls for a digital humanism that describes, analyzes, and, most importantly, influences the complex interplay of technology and humankind, for a better society and life, fully respecting universal human rights. The book is organized in three parts: Part I “Background” provides the multidisciplinary background needed to understand digital humanism in its philosophical, cultural, technological, historical, social, and economic dimensions. The goal is to present the necessary knowledge upon which an effective interdisciplinary discourse on digital humanism can be founded. Part II “Digital Humanism – a System’s View” focuses on an in-depth presentation and discussion of the main digital humanism concerns arising in current digital systems. The goal of this part is to make readers aware and sensitive to these issues, including e.g. the control and autonomy of AI systems, privacy and security, and the role of governance. Part III “Critical and Societal Issues of Digital Systems” delves into critical societal issues raised by advances of digital technologies. While the public debate in the past has often focused on them separately, especially when they became visible through sensational events the aim here is to shed light on the entire landscape and show their interconnected relationships. This includes issues such as AI and ethics, fairness and bias, privacy and surveillance, platform power and democracy. This textbook is intended for students, teachers, and policy makers interested in digital humanism. It is designed for stand-alone and for complementary courses in computer science, or curricula in science, engineering, humanities and social sciences. Gefragt sind jedoch Quartierslösungen, die eine optimierte Anlagendimensionierung ermöglichen. EASyQuart entwickelt ein standortbezogenes Entscheidungshilfesystem für die Beheizung/Kühlung von Stadtquartieren unter Nutzung oberflächennaher geothermischer Ressourcen. Die Projektergebnisse umfassen Arbeitsabläufe, Bewertungskriterien und wissenschaftliche Instrumente, die helfen sollen, eine wirtschaftlich ungünstige Systemdimensionierung zu vermeiden.     Abstract: Seit dem Mord an George Floyd durch den Polizeieingriff in den Vereinigten Staaten im Mai 2020 und der daraus erwachsenen (Social Media-)Bewegung #blacklivesmatter hat auch die Beschäftigung mit den verschiedenen Formen von Rassismus in Deutschland zugenommen. Konnte der Begriff vor wenigen Jahren in wissenschaftlichen wie öffentlichen Diskursen weitgehend nur schwierig oder selten genutzt werden, hat er sich inzwischen hierzulande auch als Gegenbegriff zur globalen Wirkmächtigkeit rechter Ideologien, die besonders Identitätskategorien zur Legitimation mörderischer Gewalt heranziehen, sowie im Kontext globaler Diversifizierungsmaßnahmen im Diskursmainstream durchgesetzt. Dieser Erfolg des Begriffs lässt auch die filmischen Produktionen zu Themen von Menschenfeindlichkeit, die auf Repräsentationskategorien basieren, in einem neuen Licht erscheinen. Filme zu Themen des Rassismus versuchen, Aufklärungsarbeit im Sinne anti-rassistischer Praxis zu leisten, während beispielsweise propagandistische Videos rechter und dschihadistischer Kreise zur (re-)produktiven Verhandlung von Rassismus beitragen. Andererseits lassen sich Filme, die scheinbar nichts mit Rassismus zu tun haben, bei einem genaueren analytischen Blick sehr wohl als Verstärkungs-, Reproduktions- oder Verschleierungsakteure von Rassismen verstehen. So sind Filme immer schon im Sinne von (Un-)Sichtbarkeitsmaschinen dazu geeignet, soziale Verhältnisse zu veräußerlichen und so ungedachte Zusammenhänge zu denken. In dieser argumentativen Bi-Perspektivität – Sichtbarwerden der Rassismusdiskurse und Filme als Sichtbarkeitsmedien sozialer Verhältnisse – geht der vorliegende Sammelband Diskursformen des Rassismus, seiner Filmkulturen und Möglichkeiten des (anti-rassistischen) Widerstands besonders/aber nicht nur im deutschsprachigen Kontext nach. Daran schließen sich folgende Fragen an: Wie sieht der Zusammenhang von (fiktionalen) Filmen und Formen des Rassismus in Film-kulturen aus? Wie gehen fiktionale Formate mit Antisemitismus, Rechtsradikalismus, antimuslimischem Rassismus, Antiziganismus und whiteness um? Und wie versuchen aktuelle (auch experimentelle) filmische Formate, Rassismus entgegenzutreten? Im Zentrum des Sammelbandes stehen die Filme und ihre Geschichten selbst. Ziel ist es, das Erkenntnispotential von Filmen in der Auseinandersetzung mit Rassismus zu befragen: Was genau am Rassismus machen die Filme sichtbar? Wie lassen sich mögliche historische Entwicklungen narrativer audiovisueller Diskursformen (für den deutschsprachigen Kontext) darstellen? Wie verändern sich in diesen Entwicklungen die Auseinandersetzungen mit jenen rassistischen Formen? Und grundsätzlich: Wie stehen Film und Rassismus zueinander? Die Beiträge des Sammelbands explorieren so diverse Erscheinungsformen des Rassistischen: Umweltrassismus, Antisemitismus, Rassismus gegen Schwarze Menschen, Anti-Zig*anismus, anti-muslimischer Rassismus, Rassismus und Gender, rechtsextremer Rassismus in Deutschland und filmische Erinnerungskultur, Afropolitanismus und Rassismus, Rassismus ohne Rassen*/Rassismus gegen Migrant:innen.     Abstract: Städtische Verwaltungen und Regierungen sind zunehmend besessen vom "Image" ihrer Stadt und stürzen sich in einen Vermarktungswettbewerb, der auf Tourismus, Investoren und Immobilienmärkte ausgerichtet ist. Die Menschen, die in der Stadt leben, werden dabei zum Ziel architektonischer Verdrängungsmaßnahmen. Mickaël Labbé zeigt, wie ganze Bevölkerungsteile durch eine kaum wahrnehmbare Architektur der Verachtung als unerwünscht ausgeschlossen werden. Überwachungskameras, Bänke mit geneigter Sitzfläche oder trennenden Armlehnen, auf denen man nicht schlafen kann, und andere subtile Maßnahmen erschweren insbesondere sozial marginalisierten Menschen wie Obdachlosen das Leben in der Stadt.Gegen diese Tendenz führt Labbé die Notwendigkeit ins Feld, eine Stadt neu zu erfinden, die sich an uns alle richtet. Anstelle von ausschließenden Mechanismen braucht es Räume, in denen wir unsere Verbindungen wieder enger knüpfen können. Denn eine Stadt, die nicht mehr auf ihre gemeinschaftliche Nutzung ausgerichtet ist, die nur aus homogenen Ghettos besteht, wo wir einander nicht mehr konfrontativ und in aller Unterschiedlichkeit begegnen können, ist ein Verlust für uns alle.Labbé beschreibt funktionierende Beispiele einer "Architektur der Anerkennung" und plädiert für eine Wiederaneignung des öffentlichen Raums

Im Fokus stehen Alt-Right-YouTuber, Incels, MGTOWs (Men Going Their Own Way) und NoFap-User sowie die Manifeste der Mörder Anders Behring Breivik und Elliot Rodger. Basierend auf den psychoanalytischen Ansätzen von Klaus Theweleit, Wilhelm Reich und Elisabeth Young-Bruehl untersucht der Autor, welche Fantasien und Bilder von Körperlichkeit, Geschlecht und Sexualität dort konstruiert und ausgetauscht werden. Die Männer offenbaren widersprüchliche Gedanken, Wünsche und Fantasien über Frauen, die frauenfeindlich sind, aber auch darüber hinausgehen. Sie befinden sich in einem Zustand der Hemmung bzw.     Abstract: This book is an in depth, extensive study of Romanian queer cultural products and brings an essential and very needed contribution to the literature on Central and SEE gender studies, post-communism studies, media, and cultural studies, while at the same time being very relevant for transnational queer studies.The book looks at Romanian queer culture ”from inside”, and also from the acknowledgment that the research process is guided by the sensitivity of the approached topics, by the lack of archival footprints, and by a solid dose of media archaeology, especially when looking at the beginning of Romanian LGBT+ activism in the 90s. The book starts from contemporary Romanian cultural products that are either focusing on queer topics or (and sometimes both) produced by queer creators. It looks back at the memories of seminal queer and trans activists in extensive interviews conducted for this volume, and fragmented literary and media sources that cover the most part of the 20th century. Ramona Dima is a researcher in queer and gender studies with focus on South East Europe. Her publications and topics of interests include queer culture, sexuality and migration, LGBT+ activism, and anti-gender politics. She is the recipient of a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship hosted by the Centre for Gender Studies, University of Stavanger (2021-2023). Dr. Dima holds a PhD from the University of Bucharest and is the initiator and co-organiser of Queer and Feminist Studies in Southeastern Europe International Conference.
