    Abstract: Verlagsinfo: Dieser Band will mit dem Begriff des 'Postmigrant Turn' eine Debatte anstoßen: Wie kann die postmigrantische Perspektive für kulturwissenschaftliche Untersuchungen als Analysekategorie nutzbar gemacht werden? Die Argumentation für eine postmigrantische Theoriewende soll der Steigerung von Sichtbarkeit marginalisierter künstlerischer Praktiken und Stimmen zuarbeiten und - an der Schnittstelle von Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft - kritische wie produktive Diskussionen rund um das Themenfeld Postmigration anstoßen. Deshalb sollen auch solche Stimmen zu Wort kommen, die sich außerhalb des Universitären mit der Bezeichnung 'postmigrantisch' identifizieren und die noch stärker in akademische Diskurse Eingang finden sollten. Ähnlich der postkolonialen Perspektive wird die postmigrantische Linse zur Betrachtung gesellschaftlicher (Macht-)Strukturen herangezogen. Aus der Position der Critical-Whiteness-Forschung geht es ferner darum, einen Beitrag zur (An-)Erkennung von strukturellem und institutionellem Rassismus zu leisten und Diskurshoheiten einer weißen Dominanzgesellschaft zu hinterfragen. Interessanterweise bedienen sich in den letzten Jahren immer häufiger Autor*innen, Künstler*innen, Schreibkollektive und Theater des Terminus der Postmigration, teilweise wird er als Selbstbeschreibung und Kampfbegriff mit selbstermächtigendem Potenzial verwendet. Postmigration als Label eines weiß-dominierten Buchmarktes oder als aktivistische Selbstpositionierung - eine umfassende Theoretisierung wie kritische Reflexion der Verwendung des Begriffs ist die Aufgabe einer engagierten Kulturwissenschaft zu Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts. Die zentralen Fragen des Bandes lauten: Was bedeutet ein Postmigrant Turn? Welche Gegenstände nimmt er in den Fokus? Welche Analysemerkmale hält er bereit? Die beispielhaften Untersuchungen des Bandes dienen dazu, einen Perspektivwechsel und eine Diskursverschiebung aufzuzeigen, und argumentieren dafür, Postmigration als kulturwissenschaftliche Analysekategorie zu etablieren.

    Abstract: Mensch und Müll - das ist eine lange und innige Beziehung. Bereits die Neandertaler haben Dinge für nutzlos befunden, aussortiert und weggeworfen. Das alte Rom kämpfte ebenso mit Müllproblemen wie die Metropolen des 19. Jahrhunderts. Doch alles verblasst hinter den Abfallbergen der Gegenwart. Anhand der Produktion von und dem Umgang mit Müll schreibt Roman Köster eine erhellende Geschichte unserer Spezies und zeigt, wie sich das Leben mit dem Abfall von der Sesshaftwerdung bis heute verändert. Sein Buch bietet die erste durchgehend schmutzige Geschichte der Menschheit, denn weggeworfen wird immer. In der Vormoderne waren Abfälle vor allem ein praktisches Problem. Sie lagen herum, rochen schlecht und behinderten den Verkehr. Im Zuge des starken und weltweiten Städtewachstums seit dem späten 18. Jahrhundert stieg die Aufmerksamkeit für durch Abfälle erzeugte hygienische Probleme, die die Ausbreitung von Typhus oder Cholera begünstigten. Heute hingegen ist der Müll von einer Frage städtischer Sauberkeit zu einem globalen Umweltproblem geworden. In seiner Globalgeschichte des Mülls von der Frühgeschichte bis heute geht Roman Köster den Ursachen dieser Entwicklungen nach und zeigt, wie sich das Wegwerfen, Entsorgen und Wiederverwerten im Lauf der Geschichte verändert hat. Denn der Müll und der Versuch, ihn zu beseitigen, prägten das Gesicht der Siedlungen und Städte sowie das Leben ihrer Bewohner - von der Steinzeit bis heute. „Müll wird normalerweise als Problem des Konsums betrachtet und viele öffentliche Diskurse drehen sich um Mülltrennung als nachgelagertes Problem. Die große Leistung des Autors Roman Köster besteht darin, die Produktion von Müll als intrinsisches Problem unserer Wirtschaftsweise – „unseres täglichen Lebensvollzugs” – zu beschreiben. Er analysiert die Geschichte der Entstehung von Müll und die Verbindung mit der kapitalistischen Wirtschaftsweise auf sehr verständliche Art, unterstützt durch anschauliche Beispiele. Als Lösungsansatz hat er parat, was wir alle ahnen – die Geschwindigkeit des Wirtschaftslebens und die eigene Bequemlichkeit können in dieser Form nicht aufrechterhalten werden, wenn wir dem Problem des Mülls als Teil des aktuellen anthropogenen Klimawandels begegnen möchten“ (Nominiert für den Deutschen Sachbuchpreis 2024)

    Abstract: "Single Lives is a collection of singleness studies essays from the interdisciplinary humanities that explores the last two hundred years of literature and popular media by, about, and for single women in the US and the UK. Independent women have always been a center around which social anxieties and excitement coalesced. Moving between the family home and domestic independence, between household and public labor, and between celibacy and a range of sexual relations, the single woman remains a literary and cultural focus, as she has been from the 19th to the 21st centuries. This collection offers readers the opportunity to uncover the social, political, economic, and cultural connections between the "singly blessed" women and "bachelor girls" of the 19th and early 20th century and "all the single ladies" of the 21st century. Essays read singleness across genre and field, offering new approaches to studying modern and contemporary single women in literature, film, and history.     Abstract: "While the Third Communist International (Comintern) supported nationalist revolution in China, Soviet writers and film-makers traveled to China, met with Chinese students in Moscow, and sought to reimagine China for a Soviet audience as the next site of world revolution. Their artistic experiments constituted a search for an "internationalist aesthetics": a mode of representation that could overcome the exoticism of imperialist culture and produce transnational sympathies between populations previously considered culturally distant. Contributing to a recent cultural turn in the study of socialist internationalism, Internationalist Aesthetics positions China in the 1920s as the central space for Soviet culture's attempt to imagine how internationalism was supposed to look and feel.     Abstract: The analysis and understanding of multilingualism, and its relationship to identity in the face of globalization, migration and the increasing dominance of English as a lingua franca, makes it a complex and challenging problem that requires insights from a range of disciplines.     Abstract: "This book explores the growing tension between multilingualism and monolingualism in the European Union in the wake of Brexit, underpinned by the interplay between the rise of English as a lingua franca and the low status of translations in EU bodies, agencies and institutions. The book draws on an interdisciplinary approach highlighting insights from such fields as sociolinguistics, translation studies, and philosophy of language in looking at data drawn from official EU documents and online resources, many of which are increasingly initially produced in English and then translated into other languages, but not published as translations. In analyzing this data further, Leal explores issues around language hierarchy and the growing difficulty in reconciling the EU's approach to promoting multilingualism while fostering monolingualism in practice through the widespread use of English as a lingua franca, as well as questions around authenticity in the translation process and the boundaries between source texts and translations.
