    Kurzfassung: Im Tal Enneri Ogu fertigt der Schmied Ejima Makelemi ein Beil: Erhitzen von Eisen in der Esse, Schmieden des Mittelteils der Beilklinge, Abschroten überstehender Teile, Schmieden des Dorns und der Schneide, Schnitzen eines Schaftes, Einbrennen eines Loches für den Dorn und Einsetzen der Klinge.
    Kurzfassung: The smith's workshop is situated in the shade of a tree right next to the nomade camp of the Tubu. From his supply the smith chooses a suitable piece of iron, heats it in the stack and through lengthening, widening and compressing produces the middle part of the hatchet blade. The protruding parts are trimmed off. The spike and then the blade are wrought. From a nearby tree the smith hews off a branch and out of this carbes the shaft. The hole for the spike fitting is burnt into the blade. To conclude the smith sharpens and hardens the blade and fits it into the shaft-hole.

    Kurzfassung: Ein Silberschmied aus Tarim schmilzt Silber und gießt es in kleine Barren, die er zu Draht zieht oder zu Blech hämmert. Einzelne Schmuckelemente verziert er durch Treib- oder Ziselierarbeit. Mit selbst hergestelltem Lötwerkstoff formt, lötet und verziert er Schmuckteile: Gürtelschnalle, Kugelornament, Gliederkette, Glöckchen und Steinfassung.
    Kurzfassung: A silversmith smelts silver and casts it into small bars, which he draws into wire or hammers into sheets. He ornaments individual decorative pieces by turning or chasing. With welding material which he procedures himself, he moulds, solders and decorates jewellery; belt-buckle, spherical ornament, link-chain, small bell and stone-setting.

    Kurzfassung: Crushed donkey's dung is added to damp clay. The mixture is kneaded, the nozzles for the bellows are formed by hand. They are left to dry but are not burnt. The fur for the bellows are tanned and corried. Into the neck of each fur clay nozzle is fitted. The wooden flaps are fitted with leather strips in pairs on the bellow.

    Kurzfassung: A block of wood about 30 cm long is cut with an axe out of a tree trunk. Measurements with compasses are taken at the upper cutting surface. The block is then hollowed out with a gouge, and its outer surface and handle are fashioned with a cutting knife.

Abbrechen des Zeltes: Abnehmen der Matten, Aufschneiden der Bindestellen des Gerüstes und Zusammenlegen der Stangen.
    Kurzfassung: The mat tent is the Tubu-nomad's dwelling. The tent is built up by the woman. In the undergrowth of the Enneri Ogu the Tubu-woman Bila chops off a few branches to complete structure of the tent. To bind it she cuts off the leaves of the dum-palm tree. With the tip of a lance she digs holes for the tent poles and at the same time fits in the matching poles. The crossbars are tied on the poles. To begin with a side-part of the tent structure is set up and then part of the roof is erected. Then the second side-part follows and finally the roof is completed. After Bila has examined the structure, she puts on the mats. These are partly tied to the structure, partly pinned on with wooden pegs. On taking down the tent, the mats of the side-wall are first taken apart and rolled together, after that the roof mats follow. The binding places of the structure are cut open, the poles put together. The stretcher frame of the storage room is taken apart and as very last the poles for the water skinbag are taken down.

    Kurzfassung: Nachdem ein älterer Mann aus Ban Alm Bambusstreifen zubereitet hat, umflicht er zur Verstärkung einen bereits fertiggestellten Bambuskorb: den Boden und den oberen Teil des Korbes in randparalleler Flechttechnik und die untere Korbhälfte mit einem offenen Dreirichtungsgeflecht. Der Korbdeckel wird in Diagonalgeflecht hergestellt.
    Kurzfassung: A bamboo basket, which is already finished is given a plaited coat to strengthen it. The plaitings round the bottom and the upper half of the basket run parallel to the edges whereas that covering the lower half is an open three-directional plaiting. A diagonal plaiting technique is used to make the lid.

    Kurzfassung: Ein junger Mann fällt im Wald einen Upasbaum und bringt ihn ins Dorf, entrindet und schneidet ihn zurecht. Er klopft die Bastschicht mit Hilfe zweier Holzschlegel als Schlauch von dem 1,7 m langen (11 cm Durchmesser) Stamm, dehnt sie und hängt sie zum Trocknen zwischen zwei Pfosten auf. Am folgenden Tag schneidet er den Baststoff auf. Die Matte ist 1,5 x 0,6 m groß.
    Kurzfassung: A tree is felled with hewing-knife, a block of about 6 ft. is cut off the trunk and taken to the village. The outer layer of the bark is separated by scratching, the bast layer beaten with a wooden hammer and rolled up to form a torus. After the beating the roll is unrolled into a tubular shape and hung to dry on a pole. On the following day the tubular piece of bast is taken down and cut open.

    Kurzfassung: On placing the first wooden pillars for a house a sacrifice is made to the house-spirit. When all supporting pillars are erected, the bamboo beams and joists are attached. A bamboo framework is then made for the sleeping-place. Subsequently the two ridge pillars are erected and the ridge pole laid across. The rafters and the purlins are fixed on to the rood framework which is then covered with grass mats. The ridge consists of two beams between which sharpened bamboo stakes are pierced in order to fix the grass mats on to the ridge. The ridge is adorned with turrets fixed on top of the smoke-openings. The door is set in after the walls, made of plaited bamboos, are set in.

    Kurzfassung: Ein Mann aus Huye Luang stellt aus zwei Bambusröhren mit Hilfe eines Haumessers eine etwa 57 cm hohe Wasserpfeife her. Die Fugen dichtet er mit Rindertalg ab. In das dickere Saugrohr füllt er Wasser; er stopft Tabak in den Pfeifenkopf und raucht die Pfeife.
    Kurzfassung: The upper joint of a bamboo cane of about 60 cm, with two joints, is pierced with a rod of wood. In the lower third of the cane a hole is incised with a bush knife into which hole a thin bamboo rod is diagonally introduced. The joint is sealed with tallow. The thin bamboo rod was cut off immediately to one side of a joint, thus producing a funnel-shaped form like the bowl of a pipe. Water is now poured into the thicker cane, tobacco is filled into the bowl, and the pipe is smoked.

    Kurzfassung: The blacksmith's workshop is situated in the shade of a tree outside of the settlement. A piece of scrap iron is heated in the forge and then forged roughly with hammer and mallet. The dagger is formed from the tip, the middle part follows and finally the handle is forged. The dark surface area on the metal is ground off. Finally, decorations are punched in the dagger.

    Kurzfassung: The female potter digs up the clay and transports it in a leather sack to her dwelling. There the clay is filled into a container, mixed with water and left to stand. The modelling of the water jug is done on the swelling technique, mallets out of unburnt clay are used for this purpose. Whilst forming, horse dung is added. The neck of the water jug is pulled or rather shaped by hand with fitted-on clay rims. With the help of a small board and a damp cloth the jug is smoothed and finally an ornament is carved onto it. After two days the baking takes place in the pit. Sheep and cattle dung are used as burning material.

    Kurzfassung: The carver has selected a tree suitable for carving the stool. He fells the tree and cuts from its trunk the desired length of timber which he then roughly trims with an axe. The further carving is done in the village. The carver's only tool is an adze which he may furnish with two hafts of different length. Moreover the iron blade may be hafted either horizontally or vertically. The carver first shapes the seat, then the stem and finally the base of the stool. Once the carving is done, he sets up a hearth ventilated by a bag bellows, heats the irons in the fire and then decorates the stool. Finally he rubs ground peanuts on the wood and smoothes the seat with a stone. Stools of this kind are used by women only.

    Kurzfassung: A smith pours silver from a clay crucible; he then hammers out the resulting ingot into a thin rod which he draws into wire by means of a wire-drawing plate. He then gives it a spiral form by turning it on an iron windlass. This spiral is divided by means of a chisel into small silver rings which are linked together to form a chain.

    Kurzfassung: Cotton is put into the machine between two rollers which revolve in opposite directions. The cotton fibres are transported through these rollers and are thus separated from the seeds which had remained on them. The upper, thinner iron roller is operated with the feet by means of a connecting rod the lower wooden roller is set in motion by means of a crank handle.

    Kurzfassung: With a rope ten loops are made on a bamboo frame. Ten hemp threads are then drawn through these loops. Five short wooden pins are driven into the ground, and around these the warp threads are wound. The warp is then threaded through the reed. The loops for the heddle rod are made with threads of their own. The finished warp is wound on the warp beam and carried to the loom.

The finished warp is strung between a warp-beam and a breast-beam which is fixed to the body of the weaver. A sword is used when weaving to tighten the weft and to increase the shed which is formed by the rising and falling of the heddle.

    Kurzfassung: In seiner Holzwerkstatt in St. Magdalena (Gsiestal) stellt Konrad Geitel aus Zirbelholzdauben, die mit Eisenreifen zusammengehalten werden, ein Stoßbutterfaß mit Stempel, Deckel und Haltebrett her. Das Butterfaß wird in die kreisrunde Öffnung des Haltebretts gestellt und von Halteseilen mit Holzhaken festgehalten. Zum Abschluß werden das Butterfaß mit roter und die Eisenreifen mit grüner Ölfarbe bemalt.
    Kurzfassung: In his small woodworking shop at St. Magdalena (Gsiestal) Konrad Gietel is making staves from pine wood for a churn. First he assembles the staves, then he applies cold glue, and finally he fits iron straps around the churn to keep the staves tightly together. After some time, while the glue has set, rough patches on the wood are removed with a plane, and the inside and outside surfaces are made smooth. A bottom piece is fitted. Gietel has cut a wooden die and fits a long handle. He makes the cover plug on a wood turning lathe, and then fits the churning board with the ropes. The churn (Schlacker) is finished by painting the staves red and the iron straps green.

    Kurzfassung: Ein Mädchen aus Ban Alm stellt aus weißen Hühnerfedern auf einem Bogen, der mit einer aus Zwirnsfaden bestehenden Doppelsehne bespannt ist, eine Schnur her. Die fertige Zierschnur wird rot gefärbt und an einem Ende mit einer mehrfarbigen Quaste aus Baumwollfäden versehen.
    Kurzfassung: Two cotton threads are strung on a bamboo bow, the lower part of a small chicken feather the quill of which has been cut off is stuck between the two threads. The feather is wound around both threads and the top of the feather is again stuck between the two threads. The feather which has thus been fixed to the threads is pushed aside with a needle. The finished cord is dyed red and gets a multicoloured tassel of cotton threads attached to one end.

Dann stellt er eine Peitsche her, deren Schnur er um den Kreisel wickelt. Dieser wird durch Wegwerfen und Ziehen an der Peitsche in Drehung versetzt.
    Kurzfassung: A wooden block of about 15 cm length and about 8 cm in diameter is, with a chopping knife, worked up into a conic whipping top. For strengthening a nail of hard wood is put into its peak. Then a whip is made out of wooden stick and a twisted cord of fibre. With this whip, the whipping top is set rotating.

    Kurzfassung: A piece of wood is chopped from a tree-stump with an axe and cut with the cutting knife to a cross-bow shaft. The position of the bow is chiselled out. The bamboo bow is whittled, tried several times in the shaft, and then wedged firmly in position.     Kurzfassung: The end loops of the lease in the fixed warp are cut, and the crossed warp-threads alternately threaded into the heddles of the front and back shafts. Then the warp threads are threaded into the reed by means of a procupine quill. The warp is fixed on to the frame of the loom and bound firmly to a peg which is stuck behind the loom and serves as warp-beam. The shafts are connected with the pedals, the weaving process starts after arranging the warp.

    Kurzfassung: A mixture of crushed clay and horse's dung is mixed with water and kneaded. This pulp is later used to case the wax models. A model cast piece is ormed in wax. It shows the figure of a camel with saddle, intended as a headdecoration. On the wax model a thin layer of clay is first layed on to fill out the fine indentures and then a coat of firmer clay follows. The next day the dried form is heated, the wax melted out. A crucible with metal is fitted through a clay rim on the cast. The cast is heated in the forge. As soon as the metal becomes liquid it is poured from the crucible into the cast. The cooled-off cast is smashed and the finished castings carefully elaborated on.

Back in the village her mother prepares the grass and then knots clusters of the grass together with a double strand of coconut fiber cord. The finished skirt is combed and the daughter models it while her mother cuts the grass to the desired length.

    Kurzfassung: Mit einem Buschmesser bricht ein Mann aus großen Schneckenhäusern rechteckige Plättchen heraus, glättet sie auf Stein und bohrt mit einem Quirlbohrer in jedes Plättchen zwei Löcher. Neben und halb übereinandergestapelt befestigt er sie mit einem durch das obere Loch geführten Faden an einer als Bogensehne aufgespannten Schnur, dann bindet er die Sehne um die Taille. Dadurch werden die Plättchen fächerartig gespreizt. Er führt einen zweiten Faden durch die freien Löcher und fixiert so die Plättchen.
    Kurzfassung: With a bush knife a Waurá man breaks from large snail-shells small rectangular plates and polishes them on a stone. Using a drill with a point made of a steel needle broken in the middle of the eye, turned by the palms, he makes two holes in each plate, one at the upper end, the other at the lower end. He then attaches the plates, partly covering each other, to a string put on a bow by passing a thread through the upper holes, removes the string from the bow, and puts it round his waist so that the plates are spread out like a fan. He fixes the plates in this position with a thread passed through the lower holes, then he tries the necklace.

The design is embroidered with gold thread in couching or laid work. The finished embroi-dery (a black velvet bodice) is beaten with a hammer on the reverse side and stiffened with starch.

    Kurzfassung: Vier mit Pflöcken gespannte Zeltbahnen werden bei Ifrane aneinandergenäht. Annähen von Randgurten, hölzernen Spannknebeln sowie von Haltegurten, Einschneiden und Umsäumen von Ösen, Verbreitern der vorderen und hinteren Zeltbahn mit Zwickeln, Einnähen des Mittelgurtes, Einschieben des Firstholzes und Einsetzen zweier Hauptstützen sowie Nachspannen aller Schnüre und Befestigen der seitlichen Zeltvorhänge.
    Kurzfassung: A tent is being made. Four woven, dark tent-widths (cf. film E 1094) are first spread out on the floor, pulled tight with the help of pegs, and sewn together, from the centre out, with white woollen thread. Border straps are then sewn on, first front and back and then the sides. Wooden toggles for the guy-ropes, and harness, are sewn on and eyelets cut in and hemmed round. The front and back tent-widths are widened in the centre by a gusset. The strap for the central joint, running horizontally to the tent-widths, is then sewn on. The ridge-pole is then pushed under the canvas, which is held taut by guy-ropes and pegs, and then lifted by two main props. The process is finished when all ropes have been checked for tautness and the front and rear curtains have been attached.

    Kurzfassung: An experienced boat builder from the atoll Onotoa demonstrates the techniques used to attach a mat sail to a boat with strips of pandanus leaves. After the spar and boom are in place the sail is tested with various boat maneuvers.

    Kurzfassung: Includes the entire process of preparing this pandanus dish beginning with the men who harvest the pandanus fruit in the bush near the village of Buariki. The women of the village cut the fruit, steam it in an earth oven, and knead the resulting mash into flat cakes. The cakes are placed in a bake oven overnight and then set out in the sun for about two weeks. After another brief period in the oven the hard cakes are broken up and pandanus leaf packages are filled with the pulverized substance.

    Kurzfassung: In front of the tent, a man, his wife and his mother are busy erecting a horizontal weaving apparatus. First the warp is set up. The woollen warp yarns are drawn in a figure of eight around three pegs driven into the ground; the two outer pegs represent the later warp beam and the front or fabric roller; the third, smaller peg takes the place of the heald, and with its help the loops are tied up. The pegs are then replaced and the warp yarns fastened and tied up. With the aid of two pegs in the ground, warp beam and front roller are kept separate, and the warp is stretched horizontally. A tripod is placed between them, from which the heald is hung. After attaching the weft yarn to the shuttle, the young woman plaits in a cord to serve as width indicator, arranges the warp yarns and begins to weave a tent-width. Sheds are formed with the aid of the separator staff and the weaver's board, which is alternately laid flat and upright.

    Kurzfassung: Strips of green bamboo, of about a thumb's breadth, are plaited diagonally to produce an oval form. This form is depressed in the centre, and its edge is bound to an oblong frame of more substantial laths. The resulting boat, which is about 3 m in length, is tightend on the outside with a solution of resin. This is the most common type of small boat in South Vietnam.

    Kurzfassung: Mit Hilfe eines kleinen Webgerätes stellt der Weißberg-Bauer in St. Magdalena (Gsiestal) ein Gebrauchsband aus Leinengarn her: Von Garnspulen, auf Querstäben eines Rahmens angebracht, werden die einzelnen Fäden der Kette abgewickelt, die dann durch ein feststehendes Webebrett gezogen und auf eine Rolle gewickelt werden. Anschließend webt der Bauer das Band, indem er mittels eines vereinfachten Weberschiffchens den Schuß in die Kette einführt.
    Kurzfassung: In the "Stube" of the Weißberg-Hof in St. Magdalena, situated in the Gsieser Valley in South Tyrol, the formation stages of a "tape" (utilliy tape) are shown. First, the farmer prepares the small tape-Ioom for weaving. The individual threads of the "warp" are fed from bobbins attached to the horizontal bars of a frame, pulled through a fixed "board", and wound onto a roller. The farmer then weaves the "tape" by feeding the "weft" into the "warp", using a simplified form of shuttle.

    Kurzfassung: In der Siedlung Tetua bauen zwei Männer in fünftägiger Arbeit eine schwere Reuse in Giebeldachhausform aus Salzbuschschößlingen. Die Stäbe werden mit Kokosschnurwicklungen miteinander verbunden. Die fertige, mit Senksteinen beschwerte und mit Zugseil versehene Reuse wird beködert, ins Wasser geworfen und am nächsten Tag eingeholt.
    Kurzfassung: Shows the construction process of a moray eel trap as used in the village of Tetua on the atoll Nonouti. The house-like trap takes at least five working days to build and is weighted with a stone. Once fish bait has been added, the trap is lowered by a rope to the bottom of the reef. The trap is retrieved on the following day when an eel has been caught in it.

    Kurzfassung: The film shows women in the pottery village of Kulala, near Zebak (Province of Badaxsan, North-East Afghanistan) work, form, and fire simple, plain earthenware vessels. The process is completely recorded, from collecting of clay pieces, kneading of the clay, modelling of the vessels, firing, and transport of the goods to the area where Kulala pots are used.

    Kurzfassung: After the old loam-floor is removed the ground is covered with dry loam, sprinkled with water and wedged by two cows, which are led across the loam. After that the children of the village compress the loam further playing circle games and the final smoothness of the surface is reached with the use of wooden beaters.

    Kurzfassung: In der Siedlung Tetua stellt eine Familie in Gemeinschaftsarbeit Kokosfaserschnüre her: die faserigen Hüllen von frisch geernteten grünen Kokosnüssen werden abgelöst und für 2-3 Monate im Lagunenwatt vergraben. Die so gegerbten Hüllen werden geschlagen, gesäubert, getrocknet und von der Hausfrau auf ihrem Oberschenkel mit der flachen Hand zu kleinen Strängen und, verdoppelt, zu einer Schnur gedrillt.
    Kurzfassung: A man from the atoll Nonouti separates the fibrous hulls from freshly harvested green coconuts. Women bury these for two or three months in the lagoon mud. When the hulls are uncovered they are cut, cleaned, and dried. At that time a woman works with the fibers to create small strands which, when doubled, form a cord.

Nach dem Einsetzen der Lasche in die Mitte der Doppelsehne folgt ein Probeschuß.
    Kurzfassung: Sinews are removed from a slaughtered sheep, soaked in water, and dried. A bow staff is carved. The sinews are freed from pieces of skin, splintered, and twisted into a bowstring. The bowstring is stretched twice on the staff, a small stick is introduced at one edge to spread the two strings. A leather socket to receive the missile is placed in the middle of the double string, a pellet is placed in the socket and discharged.

    Kurzfassung: Anläßlich eines Ahnengedenkfestes werden die die Ahnen repräsentierenden Kultgegenstände aus ihrem Sanktuarium geholt, gewaschen und zum Dorfplatz gebracht. Das Sanktuarium wird gebaut. Ein prophetischer Nganga-Tänzer tritt auf. Während die Männer danach auf Netztreibjagd gehen, sammeln die Frauen Fische und Kleintiere und führen Ahnentänze auf. Nach der Rückkehr der Jäger wird ein Mahl für die Ahnen zubereitet. In einem abschließenden Festumzug werden die Kultgegenstände in das inzwischen neu errichtete Sanktuarium zurückgebracht.
    Kurzfassung: Clan members are reunited to honor their departed ancestors with the Tonga Bondo festival. A procession takes the ancestral spirits to a central location in the village where they are ceremoniously placed on a bed of leaves and branches. There are anointings, invocations, gift-giving, and dances for the ancestors. Finally a meal is prepared and offered to the spirits as they are reinstated in their renewed sanctuary.

    Kurzfassung: Im Futterhaus werden die Stengel von den Samenkapseln durch Riffeln befreit und in dünnen Lagen auf einem Wiesenstück ausgebreitet, wo sie einen Fäulnisprozeß durchmachen. Anschließend werden die Stengel in einer abseits vom Gehöft liegenden Dörrgrube gedörrt, dann gebrochen und auf dem Hofplatz gehechelt.
    Kurzfassung: The gradual transformation of flax-stalks into spinning fibres is shown at different working places on the domain of a farm in St. Magdalena in the Gsieser valley of South Tyrol. First of all, the seminal capsules are removed from the stalks. This work is carried out in the feeding house. After this the stalks - now without capsules - are spread out over grass in thin layers where they go through the decaying process under the influence of the weather - this process is not shown in the film. In a drying pit, which lies apart from the farm, the stalks are then dried and broken and are, finally, combed on the courtyard.

    Kurzfassung: Im Dorf Sinyea stellt die Flechterin Noai ein zum Krabbenfischen benötigtes Netz her: Abstreifen der Fiedern von Ölpalmwedeln, Verzwirnen zu Schnüren, Herstellen des Netzes mit Hilfe einer Einlage aus Rotan in Maschenstofftechnik. Abschließend wird der Netzrand mit einem Reifen verstärkt.
    Kurzfassung: Shows the production of a small hand net used for fishing for crabs in standing, shallow water. A woman gathers oil palm leaves and strips them of the leaf material so that only the stems remain. These stems are made into a durable cord which is then braided into a fishing net.

    Kurzfassung: The film shows the cleaning, tanning, dressing, and dyeing of an ibex skin by a man from Iskatul (Sanglic valley, Province of Badaxsan, North-East Afghanistan). The film commences with shots of the already lightly salted and dried skin being soaked and placed in the tanning solution and ends with a final softening of the tanned, dressed and dyed leather.

    Kurzfassung: The film demonstrates molding on a rotating molding disk, from the dressing of the molding sand down to the completion of three molds for copper, pots and plow share. Subsequently follows the firing and charging of a small furnace, a pit-furnace operated with a tube blast, with charcoal, pig iron, castings and limestone, as well as the tapping and filling of the molds. The molds are then smashed and the finished castwork is cleaned.

An diesen Schwimmkörper binden zwei Männer zur Stabilisierung Längshölzer und Querstreben an. Nach Anbringen des Auslegergeschirrs und eines Schwimmers wird dieses Einmannfischerboot ausprobiert.
    Kurzfassung: A woman from the atoll Nonouti plaits a long basket from a large coconut palm leaf. Men fill this vessel with empty coconuts so that it will float and attach a support device for stabilization. This one-man craft is used for fishing in the lagoon.

    Kurzfassung: Vorwiegend von Frauen wird die Erneuerung eines Hausdaches in Berdoba vorgenommen: Aufstellen eines Mittelpfostens, Befestigen des Giebelkranzes, der Dachsparren und von quer dazu gelegten Ästen. Zu Bündeln geordnete Gräser werden dachziegelartig überlappend aufgelegt und befestigt.
    Kurzfassung: The cone-roof of one of the round houses had to be replaced after a fire. First the middle pole supporting the roof is erected. The gable-wreath is attached to the pole and the roof-spars are laid on and tied to the gable-wreath. The spars are loosely placed on the wall. Flexible branches serve as boards. They are connected to the spars by ropes. To thatch the roof two different kinds of grass are used. The grass is put into bundles and fixed to the roof scaffolding with ropes. Each layer is layed down in overlapping brick form. A large grass bundle is put on the tip of the roof and held together by a sling-rope. The work is carried out by women on the whole.

    Kurzfassung: In der Siedlung Tetua drillt eine Frau auf ihrem Oberschenkel aus den Fasern von präparierten Kokosnußhüllen dickere Stränge, die sie zu einer Schnur vereint. Aus drei derartigen Schnüren drehen drei Männer ein Seil, indem sie unter dem Querbalken eines Hauses sitzen und die daran befestigten Schnüre unter stetem Zug einander weiterreichen.
    Kurzfassung: A woman from the atoll Nonouti gathers fibers together from prepared coconut hulls and braids them into a thick cord. Three men of her family then wind the cord into a much stronger rope as they sit under a crossbeam and work together.

    Kurzfassung: Ein Mann spaltet ein junges Palmblatt mit noch geschlossenen Fiederblättern und flicht die Fiedern von der Mittelrippe aus kreuzweise in 2/2 Köperbindung zu einem länglichen Diagonalgeflecht zusammen, erwärmt es über Feuer, klappt es auf die Hälfte zusammen und versieht den so entstandenen Rückenkorb mit Tragbändern aus zusammengedrehten Lianen.
    Kurzfassung: The pinnules of a palm-leaf are plaited from the inner rib into a longish rectangle by an oblique 2/2 twill technique. The rectangle is folded in half and sewn on both sides. The resulting back-basket is furnished with carrying straps made of twisted lianas.

Thereafter, the yarn is boild in potash leach, and then rinsed twice: one time in ice-cold running water of a brook, and another time in hot water at the house. After cleaning the yarn is dried, rippled to remove wood particles, and finally put on the spools.

    Kurzfassung: Nach dem Zetteln (mit Hilfe von Zettelgatter und Haspel) und Aufziehen der Kette auf den Kettbaum sowie nach dem Schlichten der Kette beginnt der Webvorgang: Der Weber trägt den Schuß mit dem Schiffchen ein, wobei er jeden Eintrag mit dem Anschlagkamm fest an das Gewebe andrückt. Die Fachbildung erfolgt durch die Betätigung der Tritte, die mit den Schäften in Verbindung stehen. Nach Beendigung der Webarbeit wird der fertige Stoff (Leinwandbindung) vom Warenbaum abgenommen und kontrolliert.
    Kurzfassung: After preparing the warp by means of the warping frame and reel the warp is fixed to the loom. After fixing the front end of the warp to the take up roller and dressing the warp threads, the weaving process is started: The weaver inserts the weft by a shuttle and beats each weft thread into its appointed position in the fabric by means of the reed. By stepping on the pedals, which are connected to the shaft, the different sheds are formed. After finishing the weaving process the weaver removes the linen cloth (plain weave) from the loom and checks it.

    Kurzfassung: In einer Lehmgrube auf der Hochfläche des Vorderhunsrücks wird Lehm in alter Weise zu Feldbrandziegeln verarbeitet. Nach dem Trocknen der handgeformten Rohziegel werden diese zu einem mit Kohlekanälen und -schichten durchsetzten, außen mit Lehm abgedichteten Feldbrandofen aufgesetzt und gebrannt. Nach dem Erkalten wird der Ofen aufgebrochen; die sortierten Ziegel werden abgefahren.
    Kurzfassung: In a loam pit on the plateau of the anterior Hunsrück the loam is made into bricks after the old fashion: After drying the handmoulded, unfinished bricks, they are piled up into an open-air-oven, interspersed with channels and layers of coal, externally covered with loam, and burnt. After cooling, the oven is broken open: the sorted bricks are transported away.

Zwischen zwei Blattlagen gelegte Scherenschnitte aus Papier verzieren den Hut. Nach dem Zusammennähen wird der Hut mit einer Harzlösung imprägniert.
    Kurzfassung: Two women bind fine strips of bamboo into rings of smaller and smaller diameter, laying them on a cone-shaped wooden frame. Oblong leaves, smoothed out and cut to shape, are strung on to a thread and distributed like the parts of a fan over the rings, which lie on the frame. Two such layers are laid one over the other. Paper silhouettes are spread out between them to form a decoration. Finally the layers of leaves are sewn in place on to the bamboo rings, and the leaves are cut flush with the rim of the hat.

    Kurzfassung: Das feine Garn wird von der Bäuerin, das Werg von der Magd mit dem Spinnrad gesponnen. Verlauf des Arbeitsvorgangs: Befestigen des Materials, Ziehen des ersten Fadens, Einführen in die Spindel, fortlaufendes Spinnen bis zum Abnehmen der fertigen Spule.
    Kurzfassung: The film shows flax-spinning. The fine yarn is spun by the farmer's wife, the tow by the maid. The film presents both spinning procedures in comparison, in order to point out the different working methods. It shows all the stages of the spinning process from the fastening of the material, the drawing out of the starting thread, the feeding of the thread into the spindle, and the continuous spinning to the removing of the finished bobbin.

    Kurzfassung: Ein 13jähriger Bub wird mit Strohzöpfen eingeflochten, mit einer gelben Stofflarve verhüllt und mit Schellenriemen, Tschako, Säbel und Schwanzglocke versehen. Zusammen mit sieben Begleitern geht er von Haus zu Haus. Es werden Sprüche aufgesagt und Eier, Butter und Milch gesammelt. Am Abend des Tages verzehren die Buben gemeinsam die gesammelten Lebensmittel.
    Kurzfassung: A schoolboy from an upper grade is wrapped up in ropes made of straw. Together with seven companios he goes from house to house. Sayings are recited and eggs, butter and mik are collected. On the same evening the boys consume the food together.
