    Abstract: Männer in der Nähe von Hue bauen ein etwa 3 m langes Zubringerboot aus Streifen von grünem Bambus: Ein oval begrenztes Diagonalgeflecht wird in der Mitte nach unten durchgebogen, mit seinem Rand an einem länglichen Rahmen aus festeren Latten festgebunden und mit einer Harzlösung abgedichtet.
    Abstract: Strips of green bamboo, of about a thumb's breadth, are plaited diagonally to produce an oval form. This form is depressed in the centre, and its edge is bound to an oblong frame of more substantial laths. The resulting boat, which is about 3 m in length, is tightend on the outside with a solution of resin. This is the most common type of small boat in South Vietnam.

    Abstract: Auf einem weiten sandigen buddhistischen Gräberfeld am Rande der Stadt Hue wird ein Grab ausgeschachtet und ein Sarg hinuntergelassen. Anwesend sind die nahen Verwandten des Verstorbenen und einige buddhistische Mönche. Nachdem verschiedene Gebete gesprochen worden sind, wird das Grab mit Sand zugefüllt. Die Trauernden verlassen das Gräberfeld.
    Abstract: In a wide and sandy Buddhist burial-ground at the edge of the town of Hué a grave is dug and a coffin let down into it. The close relatives of the deceased, and a few Buddhist monks, are present. After various prayers have been said the grave is filled in with sand. The mourners leave the burial-ground.

    Abstract: The Buddhist new-year festival têt is celebrated as a public festival. A part of this festival, the religious ceremony shown in this film, is carried out by seven priest-monks at a pagoda near Hué, and is attended, however, only incidentally, and by only a small number of believers. Before the ceremony begins, the sounds of a bell, and of a gong hung at the entrance to the pagoda, drive away evil spirits. The chief priest and his assistants fall down in prayer before the brightly decorated alter. Then they pace solemnly around it several times.

    Abstract: Zwei Frauen in Hue stellen aus den getrockneten Blättern der Corypha umbraculifera und aus einem dünnen Gerüst aus Bambusstäbchen einen kegelförmigen Hut her. Zwischen zwei Blattlagen gelegte Scherenschnitte aus Papier verzieren den Hut. Nach dem Zusammennähen wird der Hut mit einer Harzlösung imprägniert.
    Abstract: Two women bind fine strips of bamboo into rings of smaller and smaller diameter, laying them on a cone-shaped wooden frame. Oblong leaves, smoothed out and cut to shape, are strung on to a thread and distributed like the parts of a fan over the rings, which lie on the frame. Two such layers are laid one over the other. Paper silhouettes are spread out between them to form a decoration. Finally the layers of leaves are sewn in place on to the bamboo rings, and the leaves are cut flush with the rim of the hat.

    Abstract: Ausschnitte eines Kultfestes mit Ritualhandlungen und Kulttänzen: Spielen auf kultischen Musikinstrumenten (Trommel, Pauken), Prostration, Anrufungen, Gebetsgesänge, ekstatische Tänze der Frauen vor dem Altar, Opfergaben.
    Abstract: Belief in ghosts and cult dances still play a part today in many ritual acts of the Mahayana-Buddhism of Vietnam. The ceremonies portrayed in this film in a Pagoda near Huê are initiated by a Buddhistic priest. The further development of the dance, however, is dominated by "possessed women" dancing before the altar. They claim to have been visited by ghosts and ordered to dance for them. During the ecstatic dances the women fall into trance-like state of mind and swing in their hands various magical attributes such as knives, clubs, sticks and so on which give an indication of the ghosts which they incarnate. In many rituals of these types the women also make predictions and distribute curative amulettes to the believers.
