Abstract:
Im Tal Enneri Ogu fertigt der Schmied Ejima Makelemi ein Beil: Erhitzen von Eisen in der Esse, Schmieden des Mittelteils der Beilklinge, Abschroten überstehender Teile, Schmieden des Dorns und der Schneide, Schnitzen eines Schaftes, Einbrennen eines Loches für den Dorn und Einsetzen der Klinge.
Abstract:
The smith's workshop is situated in the shade of a tree right next to the nomade camp of the Tubu. From his supply the smith chooses a suitable piece of iron, heats it in the stack and through lengthening, widening and compressing produces the middle part of the hatchet blade. The protruding parts are trimmed off. The spike and then the blade are wrought. From a nearby tree the smith hews off a branch and out of this carbes the shaft. The hole for the spike fitting is burnt into the blade. To conclude the smith sharpens and hardens the blade and fits it into the shaft-hole.
