    Abstract: Im Dorf Dorong starb eine 80jährige Frau, die als Priesterin andere Frauen ausgebildet hat. Nach der Aufbahrung treffen Trauergäste ein. Frauen aus der Verwandtschaft halten Trauerwache und singen Klagelieder. Zwei Priesterinnen führen die Totenzeremonien durch. Am zweiten Tag wird die Tote in einen Einbaumsarg gelegt, der fest verschlossen wird. Am dritten Tag wird sie auf dem Friedhof beerdigt.
    Abstract: In Dorong village, near Tamiang, an eighty-year-old woman has died. She was a priestess (wadian), responsible also for the training of other women. The film presents the exposure of the corpse, the arrival of the mourners, and the ceremonies connected with this event. The ceremonies are performed by two priestesses, one having the function of a teacher. The second day the corpse is laid in the coffin, the third day the burial takes place in the cemetery.

    Abstract: Haanglireh, der 52jährige Dorfschmied von Padua, und sein Helfer schmieden in etwa 3stündiger Arbeit ein ca. 50 cm langes Haumesser: Schmieden und Härten der Klinge, Schleifen der Schneide und Schnitzen des Griffes. Der 〈i〉parang〈/i〉, der im Alltag als Arbeitswerkzeug dient, wird mit Hilfe einer Schnur um die Taille gebunden.
    Abstract: Haanglireh, the 52-year-old village smith of Padua, and his assistant shape a hewing knife about 50 centimetres long. The work takes three hours and proceeds in the following stages: forging and tempering the blade, grinding the edge, and carving the handle. The 〈i〉parang〈/i〉, used as a tool in everyday life, is attached to a cord about the waist.

    Abstract: Der vor zwei Jahren verstorbene Mann Hermanto Juris wird anläßlich eines Totenfestes (Tiwah), das 6 Tage lang andauert, endgültig verabschiedet und in das Totenreich geleitet. Die vom Gewohnheitsrecht (Adat) verbindlich vorgeschriebene Zeremonie wird von 6 Priesterinnen (Wadian) durchgeführt. Am Fest beteiligen sich außer der Familie auch die weitere Verwandtschaft, die Freunde und Bekannte.
    Abstract: A death feast is held in Dorong village. The corpse had been buried two years before, hair and nails of the deceased, called rapu, had been placed separately on top of the coffin. This rapu is now dug up, since the family finally have the means to arrange the feast. In the course of the feast the priestesses of the village, wadiam, communicate with the soul of the deceased until now in a transitional realm. Only after the tiwah is performed does the soul leave for the country of the dead, to join the ancestors and remain there definitely. During the tiwah the rapu is kept in the house of the dead man's daughter. Ritual cock-fights, offerings of pigs and chickens accompany the tiwah. The tiwah is performed according to the adat of the Kaharingan religion.

    Abstract: Nach einer Einführung über die Landschaft und Dorfanlage wird der Alltag skizziert: Dorfschule, Aussaat am Brandrodungsfeld, Sammeln von Naturgummi, Reisschälen, Reisstampfen, Flechten, Schmiedearbeiten in einer Freilandschmiede, Einkauf im Dorfladen, Fischen, Kochen, Kaffeesortieren und Zubereiten von Betelpriem. Nach einem Unterhaltungstanz der Frauen und einem Kriegstanz eines alten Mannes schließt der Film die Vorstellung des Dorfes mit der Abendstimmung am Fluß.
    Abstract: After a general description of the village follows a sketch of everyday life: the village school, sowing in the slash and burn clearings, collection of latex, winnowing rice, weaving, the open-air blacksmith, the village shop, cooking and the preparation of betel. The film closes with an entertainment dance (women), an old man's war dance and the atmospheric sunset at the river.
