    Abstract: From the tenth to the twelfth centuries in England and Scotland we have scant evidence of women's writing. How, then, can we access these women's experiences?     Abstract: Seit MeToo können Frauen öffentlich ihre erlebte sexualisierte Gewalt thematisieren - so zumindest eine häufig geteilte Annahme. Dagegen zeigt Ana Nenadovic auf, dass das Sprechen darüber keineswegs frei, sondern weiterhin tabuisiert ist. Aus intersektional-feministischer und post- sowie dekolonialer Perspektive erforscht sie aktuelle Romane aus Mexiko, Brasilien und Südafrika, um die tragende, aber in der Textstruktur verborgene Stimme der vergewaltigten Informantin zu enthüllen. Ihre Analysen zeigen Interaktionen zwischen Schweigen und Sprechen auf und plädieren für eine kritische Lektüre von Repräsentationen sexualisierter Gewalt und Trauma.

    Abstract: Started in the wake of George Zimmerman's 2013 acquittal in the death of Trayvon Martin, the #BlackLivesMatter movement has become a powerful and incendiary campaign demanding redress for the brutal and unjustified treatment of black bodies by law enforcement in the United States. The movement is only a few years old, but as Christopher J. Lebron argues in this book, the sentiment behind it is not; the plea and demand that 〈"Black Lives Matter〉" comes out of a much older and richer tradition arguing for the equal dignity-and not just equal rights-of black people. The Making of Black Lives Matter presents a condensed and accessible intellectual history that traces the genesis of the ideas that have built into the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Drawing on the work of revolutionary black public intellectuals, including Frederick Douglass, Ida B. Wells, Langston Hughes, Zora Neal Hurston, Anna Julia Cooper, Audre Lorde, James Baldwin, and Martin Luther King Jr., Lebron clarifies what it means to assert that 〈"Black Lives Matter〉" when faced with contemporary instances of anti-black law enforcement. He also illuminates the crucial difference between the problem signaled by the social media hashtag and how we think that we ought to address the problem. As Lebron states, police body cameras, or even the exhortation for civil rights mean nothing in the absence of equality and dignity. To upset dominant practices of abuse, oppression and disregard, we must reach instead for radical sensibility. Radical sensibility requires that we become cognizant of the history of black thought and activism in order to make sense of the emotions, demands, and argument of present-day activists and public thinkers. Tranchese demonstrates which myths about rape have persisted, as well as highlighting how they have adapted to the digital news environment. Während Amitav Ghosh die Reise der Muskatnuss nachzeichnet, veranschaulicht er eindrucksvoll die Mechanismen von Kolonialismus und Ausbeutung der Einheimischen sowie der Natur durch westliche Länder.     Abstract: "When SNCC leader Stokely Carmichael first called for "Black Power" on a Civil Rights march in 1966 he not only gave name to a movement that shaped one of the most significant periods of the African American freedom struggle in the USA. His background as son of migrants from Trinidad and Tobago also gives an indication on the international dimension of the Black Power movement. Black Power was informed by the ideas of Afro-diasporic intellectuals and Pan-Africanists such as W.E.B. DuBois, Marcus Garvey, Frantz Fanon, and Malcolm X. Deeply rooted in practices of Black transnationalism, Black Power heralded a new era of African American defiance, militancy, and cultural awareness, which transcended the U.S. and left its footprints throughout the Hemisphere, providing marginalized communities beyond national and cultural boundaries with meaningful symbols of resistance and self-affirmation in the face of racial oppression. Black Power's hemispheric impact encouraged the emergence of musical genres, antiracist movements, and border-crossing networks of solidarity among Afro-descendants in the Caribbean, Latin and North America, and continues to be a source of inspiration for the political and cultural expressions of the Black Americas in the 21st century as manifested by the Black Lives Matter movement.     Abstract: How do refugee women live, what resources do they have and what challenges do they face? This book provides insights into the lives of female refugees in Austria, who are growing in number but remain largely invisible in public discourse. Drawing on data from a mixed-methods survey, the authors analyse refugees’ social contacts, education and educational aspirations, participation in the labour market, experiences of discrimination and the role of the family and family work in successful integration. Figures, data and facts are presented in great detail and contrasted with personal accounts. This book serves as a guide to countering prejudices and fostering peaceful coexistence in our modern migration society.

    Abstract: This monograph is a study of the work of British author A. S. Byatt, exploring the cultural representation of the woman intellectual in her fiction. It argues that Byatt’s representations of this figure show narratives of intellectual women to be inherently mythopoeic, or capable of restructuring the myth of the intellectual as male by default. This mythopoeia is, furthermore, intrinsically feminist in function, thus potentially broadening the conventional, limited view of women in intellectual history. The book will be the first study of Byatt’s work to examine this figure in detail, and the first study of women intellectuals in historical and literary discourse to apply concepts of mythopoeia and sexual difference in ways that allow new readings of women’s status and work in public spheres. Melvin L. Anne Münch lässt in ihrer empirisch geleiteten Studie die Angehörigen selbst zu Wort kommen und liefert einen differenzierten Einblick in ihre Lebenssituation. Mit Analysen zur Bedeutung von Raum, Zeit, Geschlecht und den dabei stetig neu auszuhandelnden Grenzen leistet sie einen wichtigen Beitrag dazu, den Pflegenden eine Stimme zu geben und die Bedingungen in der häuslichen Pflege sichtbar zu machen.

Brooks explores more than a century of music archives to examine the critics, collectors, and listeners who have determined perceptions of Black women on stage and in the recording studio. How is it possible, she asks, that iconic artists such as Aretha Franklin and Beyoncé exist simultaneously at the center and on the fringe of the culture industry? Liner Notes for the Revolution offers a startling new perspective on these acclaimed figures-a perspective informed by the overlooked contributions of other Black women concerned with the work of their musical peers. Zora Neale Hurston appears as a sound archivist and a performer, Lorraine Hansberry as a queer Black feminist critic of modern culture, and Pauline Hopkins as America's first Black female cultural commentator. Brooks tackles the complicated racial politics of blues music recording, song collecting, and rock and roll criticism. She makes lyrical forays into the blues pioneers Bessie Smith and Mamie Smith, as well as fans who became critics, like the record-label entrepreneur and writer Rosetta Reitz.
