Über diese Männer und den Ritterstand hinaus entwickelte es eine ungeheure Strahlkraft: Ritterliche Normen prägten vom Kaiser bis hin zum einfachen Bürger die mittelalterlichen Gesellschaften. Diese ritterliche Kultur drückte sich insbesondere durch das Selbstverständnis aus, Krieger zu sein. Physische Gewalt diente somit nicht am Rand, sondern im Mittelpunkt sozialen, militärischen und politischen Lebens auch der Repräsentation und der Kommunikation. Die Studie stützt sich in erster Linie auf Quellen biographischer und autobiographischer Natur, sogenannte 'Selbstzeugnisse'"--

Chivalry is important not only for the self-image of the social group of knighted men, whose numbers declined over the course of the Middle Ages. An extraordinary power radiated from it: chivalrous norms shaped medieval societies as a whole, from Holy Roman Emperor to burgher. This knightly culture was especially expressed in the knight's self-understanding as warrior. Consequently, physical violence stood at the centre, not periphery, of representation and communication in social, military, and political life. The study is primarily based on biographical and autobiographical sources

    Kurzfassung: Eine kulturhistorische Analyse der Biografie von Franz I. zeigt, dass Lebensbrüche auch Gelegenheiten zu Neuanfängen bieten konnten. Im Jahr 1775 nach einer Kavaliersreise zurückgekehrt, kam für ihn das Leben als Regent nur schleppend in Gang. Er beschäftigte sich vornehmlich mit Dingen, denen seit jeher sein Interesse galt: griechische und römische Antiken und eine (Antiken-)Sammlung. Als für Franz I. das Leben als Regent endlich in geregelten Bahnen verlief, reiste er erneut nach Italien. Zurück in Erbach führte bald der Reichsdeputationshauptschluss zu gravierenden Veränderungen. Franz I. war nun zum Privatmann deklassiert. Entschlossen inszenierte er sich als Altertumsforscher neu. In den Vordergrund seiner Betätigung rückte nun die AuseinanderSetzung mit der Sammlung. Eine letzte Antiquität führt zur Vollendung seiner Sammlung und markiert zugleich den Schlusspunkt seines Schaffens. Franz I. stirbt am 8. März 1823 in Erbach

    Kurzfassung: Anfang der 1920er Jahre erreichte Jazzmusik Europa und verbreitete sich innerhalb kürzester Zeit durch Hörensagen, amerikanische Musikerinnen und Musiker und später auch Schallplatten in Deutschland. Die Musik wirbelte das kulturelle Leben und seine Diskurse in einem Maße auf, dass die kulturelle Elite um den Fortbestand der europäischen musikalischen Traditionen bangte: Jazz wurde einerseits vehement abgelehnt und andererseits euphorisch begrüßt und als Ausdruck von Freiheit verstanden.Dieser "Jazzaufprall" in den Jahren zwischen 1924 und 1929 wird in der Studie anhand von zeitgenössischen Betrachtungen beleuchtet: Was passierte mit den unterschiedlichen Dimensionen des Stadtlebens? Wie wurden die fremde Kultur und die Musik in die bestehenden kulturellen Szenen eingeordnet? Und inwiefern konstruierten sich in Berlin durch diesen internationalen Einfluss neue Facetten einer urbanen Identität?

    Kurzfassung: Musik und Migration bedingen einander substanziell. As the chapters in this book demonstrate, Deutsche Sagen, with its firmly nationalistic title, set in motion a cultural tsunami of folklore collection throughout Northern Europe, from Ireland and Estonia, which focused initially on the collection of folk legends rather than fairy tales.     Kurzfassung: Dieser Band des Europäischen Instituts für interkulturelle und interreligiöse Forschung ist von der Erfahrung und Einsicht geleitet, dass Antisemitismus in Europa in der Mitte der Gesellschaft weiterhin allgegenwärtig ist. Bei der interdisziplinären Betrachtung dieses komplexen Themas fokussiert der Band drei Aspekte: – den Antisemitismus in Europa, dessen Vielfalt in verschiedenen Ländern mit unterschiedlichen Facetten sichtbar und wirksam ist, – die Kontextualisierung im interreligiösen Dialog, für den das vielschichtige Thema zugleich eine große ökumenische Herausforderung beschreibt, – die praktische Anwendung der Erkenntnisse auf die (politische wie religiöse bzw. kirchliche) Bildungsarbeit, die die jeweiligen Erfahrungen und Einsichten als Gabe und Aufgabe gemeinsamen Lernens versteht. Das Buch lädt entsprechend seiner vielstimmigen Ausrichtung zur Diskussion ein. Dabei können und sollen Perspektivwechsel und Horizonterweiterung unsere gemeinsame Verantwortung sowie unsere Zusammenarbeit über die Grenzen und Mauern in Europa hinweg stärken. The value of these texts goes even further however: being autographs, they directly testify to ancient communication practices, a field of study which so far has remained underexplored.     Kurzfassung: Bezugnahmen auf den Nationalsozialismus haben in der populären Musik auch jenseits der extremen Rechten eine lange Geschichte: Bands wie Throbbing Gristle, Joy Division, Christian Death, Ministry, Saltatio Mortis, Cradle of Filth – sie alle haben in ihren Arbeiten auf den Nationalsozialismus oder dessen populärkulturelle Repräsentationsformen verwiesen. Spätestens mit Rammsteins (neuerlichem) Tabubruch im Videoclip Deutschland sind kontroverse künstlerische Bezugnahmen auf die NS-Zeit im musikalischen ‚Mainstream‘ angekommen. Wie können derartige Inszenierungen gedeutet werden und wie kann unsere Gesellschaft damit umgehen? Reinhard Kopanski entwirft ein Modell zur Beschreibung komplexer NS-Bezüge in populärer Musik und bietet dadurch eine differenzierte Alternative jenseits von (gewollten) Empörungsautomatismen. In fünf Fallstudien zeigt er auf Grundlage detaillierter Analysen von Songs, Artworks und Videoclips jeweils unterschiedliche Deutungsmöglichkeiten auf. Die musikwissenschaftliche Studie trägt zur Sensibilisierung gegenüber NS-Bezügen bei, leistet einen Beitrag zur Erinnerungskultur und fördert zugleich Souveränität im Umgang mit provokanter Kunst.

Für Führungskräfte bedeutet die zunehmende kulturelle Diversität ihrer Teams allerdings auch eine Herausforderung, denn ihre Führungsrealität wird zum Organisieren von immer komplexer werdenden Situationen. Diese Zunahme an Komplexität für Führungskräfte und die gleichzeitig durchweg positive Bewerbung von Diversität als Mehrwert auf der Organisationsebene eröffnen ein Spannungsfeld, dessen Auflösung im Führungsalltag den Akteurinnen und Akteuren häufig selbst überlassen bleibt.Genau dieses Spannungsfeld nimmt die Autorin in diesem Band in den Fokus und analysiert mit einem ethnographischen Forschungsansatz die sozial konstruierte Wirklichkeit von Führungskräften in internationalen Strategieberatungen. Stefanie Hoke ist selbst Beraterin und arbeitet als Insiderin heraus, wie Führungskräfte diesem Spannungsfeld begegnen und ihre Arbeitsrealität zwischen Anspruch und Alltag oszilliert. Hanna Eglinger untersucht die Ausprägungen eines Arktisprimitivismus in Skandinavien um 1900, indem sie kulturwissenschaftliche und ästhetische Fragestellungen verbindet.     Kurzfassung: Auch in der DDR formierte sich zu Beginn der 1980er-Jahre eine Punkszene, die zwar klein, jedoch weder zu übersehen noch zu überhören war. Exponierte Vertreter und Bands dieser Szene wurden von der Mehrheitsgesellschaft abgelehnt, aus dem staatlich organisierten Kulturbetrieb ausgegrenzt und durch den Sicherheitsapparat kriminalisiert. Doch im Gegensatz zu diesen Repressionen gegen die Punkkultur in der ersten Hälfte der 1980er-Jahre vermittelt die zweite Hälfte der Dekade ein anderes Bild: Ehemals verfemte Musiker waren nun im Staatsfunk zu hören, wurden von der Freien Deutschen Jugend (FDJ) gefördert und unter dem Rubrum ›die anderen Bands‹ auf Schallplatte gehandelt. Die Analyse dieses Wandels im zeithistorischen Kontext ist Gegenstand dieses Buches.
