    Abstract: "Focused on research within Africa and the African diaspora, contributors to this volume think through the painful iterations of trauma, systemic racism, and the vestiges of colonial oppression as well as the processes of healing and emancipation that emerge from wounded states. Their chapters explore an acoustemology of intimacy, woman-centered eroticism generated through musical performance, desire and longing in ethnographic knowledge production, and listening as intimacy. On the other end of the spectrum, authors engage with and question the fetishization of race in jazz; examine conceptions of vulgarity and profanity in movement and dance-ethnography; and address pain, trauma, and violation, whether physical, spiritual, intellectual, or political. Authors in this volume strive toward empathetic, ethical, and creative ethnographic engagements that summon vulnerability and healing. They propose pathways to aesthetic, discursive transformation by reorienting conceptions of knowledge as emergent, performative, and sonically enabled. The resulting book explores sensory knowledge that is frequently left unacknowledged in ethnographic work, advancing conversations about performed sonic and somatic modalities through which we navigate our entanglements as engaged scholars"--

    Abstract: "Adam Smith, one of the founding fathers of contemporary economics, observed that religiosity is influenced by the extent of regulation in the "market" for religion. In countries where there is a state-sponsored religion, one can expect less overall religiosity than if the market were competitive and religions had to compete to increase their membership. Religion, he claims, is like other goods and services supplied in a market economy. Max Weber, one of the founding fathers of contemporary sociology, similarly proposed that religiosity and economic principles are strongly interconnected phenomena.     Abstract: The European Union (‘EU’) is promoting a suite of innovations in international economic regulation—among them, reforms for secure and sustainable investment, a comprehensive approach to the mutual recognition of professional qualifications, a viable carbon border adjustment mechanism, heightened intellectual property rights protection, the arm’s length principle in taxation, and an increased commitment to non-economic vales. Through a critical analysis of key regulations and policies, this volume explores the evolving architectures of international economic agreements in light of EU practice. A comprehensive analysis indicates that novelties are rooted in geoeconomic considerations, through which a fundamental shift is underway towards the adoption of comprehensive bilateral trade agreements. Whilst innovation has the potential to significantly harmonise cross-border regulatory frameworks, it can also trigger significant fractures, particularly when applied restrictively and asymmetrically. Arguably, the ‘Brussels effect’ will to a certain extent foster a progressive development of international economic regulation, while in some respects being constrained by the status quo of the international economic regime. This volume is part of the Jean Monnet project Third Country Engagement with EU Trade Policy led by the ANU Centre for European Studies at the Australian National University, and supported by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ actions. The project seeks to explore and improve understanding of the EU’s evolving trade policy and its implications for third countries, including Australia and countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

    Abstract: This book provides both practice-oriented and academic insights into the disruptive power of fintech for the banking industry. It explores (1) whether and how the banking industry can use newly emerging technologies in the financial sphere to its advantage while managing any associated risks, (2) how these technologies affect traditional banking service formats as well as the pricing of these services, and (3) whether the emergence of fintech in the banking industry calls for a rethinking of existing banking regulations such as the Basel Accords as well as country-specific regulations. Prior publications in this area typically examine both current applications of fintech in the banking industry, as well as its future prospects, by analyzing actual cases or exploring the impact of a single emerging technology on the banking industry. They often ignore the interdependence between emerging technologies and overlook the connection between fintech as a whole and the future of the banking industry. This book addresses this gap by providing a comprehensive overview of various fintech applications and by analyzing what they mean for the future of banking. Given the potentially disruptive power of fintech, the book will focus on the challenges banking supervisors are likely to encounter as a result of fintech’s continual ascent. It will thus encourage readers to think about and explore how to find a balance between the beneficial aspects of fintech and the challenges it creates in terms of supervision, regulation, and risk management. Thomas Walker is Professor of Finance and Concordia University Research Chair in Emerging Risk Management at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada.     Abstract: This book offers a comprehensive review of crowdfunding at Higher Education Institutions, both in theory and practice. In addition, it sheds new light on the emerging concept of crowdfunding at Higher Education Institutions and presents an overview of current academic discussions and best practices regarding crowdfunding in education. Approaching crowdfunding from an integrated perspective, the book explores the relationship between crowdfunding and higher education institutions from both theoretical and practical perspectives. The theory part outlines why higher institutions should interact with crowdfunding platforms beyond the goal of simply raising funds. It continues to define science crowdfunding and education crowdfunding and provides a literature review of education crowdfunding. It follows with an outline of teaching alternative finance theory. The practice part consists of an attempt to develop a core curriculum for teaching crowdfunding, with cases stemming from university education as well as professional education. Two contributions deal with the implementation of crowdfunding platforms at universities. Furthermore, crowdfunding is then connected to non-fungible tokens used to alleviate student debt. Lastly, crowdfunding is put into the context of crowdsourcing practices. It includes contributions from international academics, scholars and professionals in the field and provides a global, multidimensional perspective on crowdfunding. Lastly, the book is unique in that it points the way forward, both for policymakers and for the research community, in terms of thinking about crowdfunding at Higher Education Institutions and the complex issues surrounding its development.

    Abstract: This book explores the central economic and political issues defining the modern world. With contributions from a number of world renowned economists, a range of topical debates are discussed in an accessible and practical manner. He has written extensively about exchange rates and cross border investment inflows. He published The International Money Game in 1974 and brought out three editions of Manias, Panics, and Crashes. Amongst his other books are Money, Banking, and the Economy and The Multinational Paradigm. Gylfi Zoega is a Professor of Economics at the University of Iceland and Birkbeck College, London. He has written on the financial crisis in Iceland and taken part in the recovery effort as a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of its central bank. His research is focused on unemployment, economic growth, and financial turbulence. He co-edited Preludes to the Icelandic Financial Crisis and The 2008 Global Financial Crisis in Retrospect with Robert Z. Aliber and recently published Dynamism with Hian Teck Hoon and Edmund Phelps. Már Gudmundsson was the Governor of the Central Bank of Iceland from 2009 to 2019, the Deputy Head of the Monetary and Economic Department at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) 2004-2009, and the Chief Economist of the Central Bank of Iceland 1994-2004. His published research includes cross-border financial integration, exchange rate regimes, financial stability, monetary policy, and pensions. He has recently been contributing to SEACEN´s project on challenges and options in managing capital flows.

    Abstract: Economic efficiency analysis has received considerable worldwide attention in the last few decades, with Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) establishing themselves as the two dominant approaches in the literature.     Abstract: This edited volume addresses the theoretical and historical foundations of the German Social Market Economy. Written to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Social Market Economy, chapter contributions discuss the ideas of its theoretical founders—Walter Eucken, Alfred Müller-Armack, Wilhelm Röpke, and Franz Böhm--as well as related influences such as Ordoliberalism, the historical school of economics, and the Catholic social doctrine. In addition, chapters analyze differences and parallels to alternative policy concepts, in particular Keynesianism. Finally, the volume turns toward contemporary discussions of the Social Market Economy in the present political and economic context, specifically its ability to cope with current challenges. Providing rich context for the establishment of Germany’s contemporary economic system, this volume will be of interest to researchers and students of political, social and economic systems, the history of economic thought, and political history.

    Abstract: This book discusses the transformation of the banking industry, particularly after a number of recent shocks: 2008 financial crisis, 2012 Euro-sovereign crisis, the pandemic COVID-19 crisis, the technological revolution, and reputational problems in banking due to climate risk and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) metrics. The book emphasizes two post-pandemic issues: the role of financial education and inclusive finance, and responsible banking and ESG priorities. Individual chapters analyse how the pandemic shed new light on social and governance responsibilities: Major issues include the importance and efficiency of financial education, and the impact of ESG programs on firms’ value, banks’ probability of default, bank business models and reputation risk. The book also addresses investors’ behaviour and the factors which may bias financial disclosure and reporting. By addressing whether the post-2008 crisis bank restructuring has effectively created a resilient and sustainable banking system – mostly from the European market’s perspective – the book will be of interest to researchers, academics, policy makers, and professionals of banking and financial institutions. Paul Wachtel is Professor Emeritus of Economics at the Stern School of Business, New York University. His research has been published in numerous journals, focusing on monetary policy, central banking and financial sector development. He was the co-editor of Comparative Economic Studies and is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Banking and Finance. Giovanni Ferri is Professor of Economics at the Department of Law, Economics, Political Sciences and Modern Languages at LUMSA University. He also co-founded and chairs the master in management of SDGs and the Center for Relationship Banking & Economics, which fosters research for a better understanding of relational goods to promote society’s wellbeing. Ewa Miklaszewska is Professor of Economics at Cracow University of Economics, Poland, where she chairs the Department of Banking and Global Financial System, alongside being a guest lecturer at the Institute of Economics, Finance and Management of the Jagiellonian University. She is also a committee member of the European Association of University Teachers in Banking and Finance (The Wolpertinger Club).

    Abstract: Am Ende der 1970er Jahre entstand ein ästhetisch-subjektkulturelles Konzept in der deutschsprachigen Pop-Musik, das alles ,Kalte' affirmierte: ,Kälte-Pop'. Bands wie Kraftwerk, DAF und Einstürzende Neubauten entwickelten als Gegenentwurf zum pop- wie gegenkulturell hegemonialen Wärme-Kult ein System von Motiven und Strategien, das all jene Zeichen und Prozesse der (Post-)Moderne ästhetisierte und glorifizierte, die in der bundesdeutschen Gesellschaft und vor allem im linksalternativen Milieu als negative Aspekte einer vermeintlich kalten Welt interpretiert wurden: Gefühlslosigkeit und Dehumanisierung, Industrie und Großstadt, Künstlichkeit und Entfremdung, Disziplin und körperliche Funktionalität, Schnee und Eis, Beton und Stahl sowie Computer, Maschinen und Roboter. Dabei schlugen die ,Kälte'-Akteur:innen eine Brücke zu den Historischen Avantgarden der 1920er Jahre und inszenierten sich stereotypisch als ,kalte Deutsche'. Die Arbeit analysiert unter Einbeziehung der transnationalen Verknüpfungen die ,Kälte-Welle' (1978-1983) in der deutschen Pop-Musik, ihre Bildwelten und Codes, historischen Bezüge und Rezeption, das historische Umfeld ihrer Entstehung sowie nachfolgende Erscheinungsformen ,kalter' Musik, die sich bis heute in der internationalen Pop-Musik und bei Acts wie Rammstein zeigen

    Abstract: "Paul Butler considers NWA's 1988 song, "Fuck tha Police," as an invitation to think about putting the police on trial for crimes against African Americans. It examines the resonance of "Fuck tha Police" over time, up to and including the George Floyd inspired protests. It will also use the song to analyze how civilians should feel about cops in a democracy. Are they a positive good, as many white people might suggest, a necessary evil, as some people of color might suggest, or an unnecessary evil, as suggested by the "defund the police" movement? Butler also will explore the meaning of the trial metaphor in the song - what would it mean for African Americans to put the police on trial? What would be the crime and the appropriate punishment?"--

    Abstract: Ein hochrangiger Polizeibeamter bietet einer Angestellten eine Beförderung an und fragt sie dabei, ob sie sich ,,hochschlafen" wolle. Die Frau weist ihn zurück und behält den Vorfall jahrelang für sich. Zuvor hatte sie in der Polizei vergeblich um Unterstützung ersucht. Erst Jahre später taucht dieser Polizeibeamte in den Schlagzeilen auf, weil er seiner jungen Kripochefin nachgestellt haben soll. Erst daraufhin wird er aufgrund der Anzeige der Angestellten rechtskräftig verurteilt. Diesen konkreten Rechtsfall sexualisierter Grenzüberschreitung, nehmen die Herausgeber des Buches als Anlass interdisziplinär zu untersuchen, wie Mechanismen der Skandal- und Krisenbewältigung und die damit einhergehenden Formen der institutionellen Abwehr in der Organisation Polizei wirken. Das Wegsehen und rationalisierende Verdrängen seitens Vorgesetzter, Kolleginnen und Kollegen ist unbedingt aufklärungsbedürftig. Ziel des Buches ist die Schaffung einer interdisziplinären Grundlage für die Reflexion vergleichbarer Fälle in der ,,Organisation mit Gewaltlizenz" und damit die Initiierung eines organisationalen Lernprozesses, der solche Fälle zu verhindern hilft.

Dabei hinterfragt sie auch eine »demografisierte« Klimadebatte und kritisiert repressive globale Verhütungsprogramme.

Im »jazz-echo«, der achtseitigen Jazz-Beilage des GONDEL-Magazins, beschrieben und bewerteten sechs fachkundige Publizisten aus drei Generationen begeistert, skeptisch oder polemisch die rasanten künstlerischen Entwicklungen. Redakteur und Hauptautor des »jazz-echo« war in den 1960er Jahren Siegfried Schmidt-Joos. Auch seine Entwicklung vom ausschließlichen Jazz-Experten zum weiträumigen Pop-Journalisten und Rock-Chronisten spiegelt dieses Buch, das mit kritisch-kulinarischen Kostbarkeiten die Zeit des florierenden Diskurses in der Musik wie in der Musikberichterstattung in Erinnerung ruft.

    Abstract: In diesem Handbuch werden Schütz und seine Musik in ihrer ganzen Breite thematisiert. Bekannte Spezialistinnen und Spezialisten beleuchten seine biographischen Stationen und Kontexte, sie analysieren seine Werke, stellen deren Faktur und ihre Voraussetzungen, aber auch ihre Überlieferungsformen und die Aufführungspraxis vor, und sie widmen sich den wesentlichen Strängen der Schütz-Rezeption. Ein Kapitel zu Schütz-Bildern, eine ausführliche Zeittafel und ein Werkverzeichnis runden den Band ab. Von Schütz’ Musik, bestimmt für die kurfürstliche Repräsentation und überliefert vor allem in mehreren von ihm selbst besorgten Drucksammlungen, sind überwiegend geistliche Vokalwerke erhalten. Deren Spannweite reicht von einfachen Liedsätzen über mehrchörige Psalmvertonungen und lateinische wie deutsche Motetten bis zu Stücken im modernen konzertierenden Stil. Darüber hinaus schuf Schütz mit seinen Historienkompositionen (Auferstehung, Weihnachten) und seinen drei Passionen gewichtige Beiträge zur Geschichte des Oratoriums. Zu seinen weltlichen Werken gehören neben einer frühen Sammlung italienischer Madrigale mehrere theatralische Stücke, die leider alle verloren sind.

    Abstract: Dieses Lexikon ist ein Novum der Musikliteratur. Erstmals werden alle wichtigen Texte zur Musiktheorie und Musikästhetik in lexikalischer Form von internationalen Spezialistinnen und Spezialisten beschrieben und für die Wissenschaft und Praxis leichter zugänglich gemacht. In diesem zweiten Band wird ein umfangreiches Corpus von rund 450 primär europäischen und nordamerikanischen Texten von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart vorgestellt. Neben im engeren Sinne ästhetischen und musikästhetischen Schriften wie etwa Immanuel Kants „Kritik der Urteilskraft“ (1790), Eduard Hanslicks „Vom Musikalisch-Schönen“ (1854) und Zofia Lissas „Ästhetik der Filmmusik“ (1964) finden viele andere Textformen Berücksichtigung: Denn auch die Verfasser der Bibel und frühneuzeitlicher Erziehungsliteratur, Komponisten wie Robert Schumann und John Cage, Dichter wie Ovid und E. T. A. Hoffmann oder Romanautorinnen und Romanautoren wie Dorothea Schlegel und Honoré de Balzac haben auf ihre Weise über Musik nachgedacht.
