    Kurzfassung: Since Pierre Bourdieu, we have known that the body forms incorporated cultural and social capital. It is a commodity and means of production, a sign of belonging to a social class, a place where sex, gender and power relations are negotiated or a pretext for social exclusions and racism. The body is the object of punishments, sanctions and social control, a support for affects, obsessions and illnesses as well as a site of rebellion and resistance. The 19th century novels analyzed in the contributions to this volume tell all this. From the perspective of current body studies, we propose a new reading of the great stories from Balzac to Zola, via Mirbeau, Maupassant, Louise Michel, Georges Sand, Rachilde, Eugène Sue and Huysmans to demonstrate, through their texts, how the Images of the body and the policies of capital are part of the imagination and memory of 19th century French society

    Kurzfassung: Kennen Sie die Geheimsprache der Pariser Metzger? Stéphane Hardys kulturhistorische, lexikologische und soziolinguistische Darstellung des largonji du louchébem gewährt exklusive Einblicke in die verborgene Welt einer ganz besonderen Sprechergruppe. Der fast ausschließlich in der gesprochenen Form verwendete louchébem ist eine „verhüllende Sondersprache“. Für Außenstehende ist er nicht verständlich und soll es auch nicht sein. In der Fachliteratur galt der louchébem als nahezu ausgestorben. So hat diese Thematik in der (franko-)romanistischen Sprachwissenschaft bisher nur wenig Beachtung gefunden. Doch der largonji du louchébem ist sehr lebendig. Das weist die Autorin mit ihrer qualitativ-empirischen Studie auf der Basis umfangreichen authentischen Gesprächsmaterials nach.

    Kurzfassung: This book is an in depth, extensive study of Romanian queer cultural products and brings an essential and very needed contribution to the literature on Central and SEE gender studies, post-communism studies, media, and cultural studies, while at the same time being very relevant for transnational queer studies.The book looks at Romanian queer culture ”from inside”, and also from the acknowledgment that the research process is guided by the sensitivity of the approached topics, by the lack of archival footprints, and by a solid dose of media archaeology, especially when looking at the beginning of Romanian LGBT+ activism in the 90s. The book starts from contemporary Romanian cultural products that are either focusing on queer topics or (and sometimes both) produced by queer creators. It looks back at the memories of seminal queer and trans activists in extensive interviews conducted for this volume, and fragmented literary and media sources that cover the most part of the 20th century. Ramona Dima is a researcher in queer and gender studies with focus on South East Europe. Her publications and topics of interests include queer culture, sexuality and migration, LGBT+ activism, and anti-gender politics. She is the recipient of a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship hosted by the Centre for Gender Studies, University of Stavanger (2021-2023). Dr. Dima holds a PhD from the University of Bucharest and is the initiator and co-organiser of Queer and Feminist Studies in Southeastern Europe International Conference.

    Kurzfassung: "The stories of migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea to reach Europe have made the headlines in the news over the last twenty years. How have these human itineraries been represented in contemporary culture? This book considers the migrant's story as portrayed in literature, cinema, museums and festivals in Italy and France, in order to explore the widespread ethical complexities related to agency and advocacy. While typically produced in support of migrant communities, these narratives often confine the experience of displaced individuals within a Eurocentric, humanitarian discourse that is difficult to overcome. Through an interdisciplinary and postcolonial approach, the book analyses, among others, recent works by Laurent Gaudé and Emanuele Crialese, the Musée National de l'Histoire de l'Immigration in Paris and a community festival in Lampedusa, to highlight the complexity of advocating for migrants from a European perspective"--

In Configurations of a Cultural Scene Andrew Anderson explores this growing community of artists and writers with a focus on how sites of face-to-face interaction in Madrid fostered creative work and forged young identities. Organizing the locations into places of sociability, learning, and residence, Anderson offers five case studies that exemplify the significance of these three points of intersection: Rafael Barradas and his tertulia at the Café de Oriente; an artists' studio located on the Pasaje de la Alhambra; women art students at the Academia de San Fernando who lodged at the Residencia de Señoritas; the artist and writer Gabriel García Maroto; and the close relationship between artist Maruja Mallo and poet Rafael Alberti.     Kurzfassung: Literary multilingualism and the transnational turn are currently hot topics in literary studies. They are best studied in the multilingual and widely networked Romanian literatures. The contributions collected here illustrate the numerous and close connections of Romanian literatures on various levels: - regionally to the languages, literatures and cultures of the Balkan region - in the European region to western and southern Romania, and - across continents, i.e. in a global context. The specific contribution that Romanian studies can make today – within Romance studies as well as in the context of current debates in literary studies – becomes apparent

Gudrun Rath untersucht erstmals diese vergessene transatlantische Geschichte der Zombie-Figur und zeigt, wie sie im Kontext von stereotypen Karibik-Darstellungen, Diskursen über Versklavung und Abolition, Todesriten und Vorstellungen von Körper und Seele nach dem Tod zum Einsatz kam - und wie sie Europa nicht nur in der Popkultur bis heute heimsucht

    Kurzfassung: The comparative investigation of the acquisition of gender in Spanish by early and late bilinguals of different language combinations is highly debated and crucial as the phenomenon of gender involves grammatical features that differ in all three languages under investigation. Against this background, both early and late bilinguals face an arduous learning task which differs in complexity. Couched within a generative framework, the empirical study focuses on 257 participants with different levels of proficiency in Spanish ranging from low to advanced, and through a series of tests aims to discover which extra-linguistic and intra-linguistic factors act as triggers for non-native outcomes in adult heritage speakers and L2 learners. The observed morphological variability is argued not to stem from a representational (i.e. syntactic) deficit, but rather from a mapping problem in L2 learners and heritage speakers. Successful attainment in terms of gender is possible but dependent on the interplay between various extralinguistic and linguistic factors

    Kurzfassung: La sociedad globalizada se caracteriza cada vez más por los cruces de fronteras no solo geopolíticas sino también simbólicas, culturales, identitarias, lingüísticas o disciplinarias. Cruces de fronteras son también los procesos de negociación cultural y transculturación en las intersecciones de categorías nacionales, sociales, culturales e identitarias de género, clase, orientación sexual, raza y etnia. Este volumen responde a la crisis actual del hispanismo, reflejada en la obsolescencia de los rígidos modelos filológicos, el canon de las literaturas nacionales y el legado de las ideologías posimperiales, ineficaces para estudiar la diversidad social y cultural, la hibridación y la poscolonialidad en el nuevo contexto global. La cultura española contemporánea no se puede entender plenamente sin considerar sus encrucijadas globales y sus fantasmas poscoloniales. El poshispanismo propone una redefinición de los parámetros de los estudios hispánicos para responder a esta compleja realidad, ampliando los marcos y metodologías de los estudios culturales ibéricos y abriéndose hacia perspectivas transatlánticas y transpacíficas. La presente investigación examina estas encrucijadas reales y simbólicas de las prácticas culturales y representaciones literarias y visuales en el ámbito poshispánico, en el marco de los siglos XX y XXI.

    Kurzfassung: In recent years, Peru has transformed from a war-torn country to a global high-end culinary destination. Connecting chefs, state agencies, global capital, and Indigenous producers, this "gastronomic revolution" makes powerful claims: food unites Peruvians, dissolves racial antagonisms, and fuels development. Gastropolitics and the Specter of Race critically evaluates these claims and tracks the emergence of Peruvian gastropolitics, a biopolitical and aesthetic set of practices that reinscribe dominant racial and gendered orders. Through critical readings of high-end menus and ethnographic analysis of culinary festivals, guinea pig production, and national-branding campaigns, this work explores the intersections of race, species, and capital to reveal links between gastronomy and violence in Peru
