Abstract: Where and how will we do our shopping tomorrow? With the rise of digital platforms, self-service is being called into question, in the food sector as elsewhere. And yesterday's customer journey is being groped and reinvented. This book imagines four likely scenarios up to 2050. For each of them, it shows how the platforms, based on a specific customer journey, will bring out a new food offering. The products in each scenario combine distinctive modes of consumption and production. In the Personalisation scenario, customers delegate the anticipation of their desires to a platform, which offers them a personalised food stream for their well-being; the offering sees the merging of final processing and local logistics. In the Commitment scenario, empowered customers accept that a platform will control and radically change their diet for the common good; the platforms coordinate to steer the transition to a sustainable food system. In the Community scenario, customers looking for authenticity want to join short-distance platforms where genuine, strong relationships are forged between producers and consumers; the supply chains are decentralised. In the Low Price scenario, customers who have lost interest in their food use platforms to access commoditised products at very competitive prices; production becomes globalised and costs are crushed. This book is aimed at retail professionals, public authorities, researchers and students, as well as consumers and anyone interested in the market economy

Abstract: Twenty interesting studies on, among others, risks towards firm performance, financial risk and financial uncertainties, risk consequences for European countries’ businesses and economies from the Russia and Ukraine conflict, the effects of adopting enterprise risk management on the performance and risks of European publicly listed insurance firms, the management of financial risks while performing international commercial transactions, market liquidity and its dimensions, benchmarking as a way of finding risk factors in business performance, the effect of risk disclosure for trade credit, risk perception, accounting, and resilience in public sector organizations, and psychological effects from potential unexpected environmental disasters on investors. Although disasters are associated with risk, investors tend to have a different perspective depending on the source of the disaster. More specifically, if a country is facing a natural disaster, where no one can be blamed, the foreign investors who may hold a country’s bonds will continue to trust the country due to the “innocence” of the country. On the other hand, when a firm causes a technological disaster, such as a nuclear power plant explosion, investors, if this corporation is publicly traded, will “punish” the firm by selling its shares at any price to avoid a bigger loss

Abstract: The essay attempts a survey of the economic and social impact of non-landed levies, meaning by this all the drainages of wealth in which the exercise of coercive powers played a decisive role. It follows a “macro” and “geo” economic approach, paying particular attention to the redistribution of wealth on the territory. After an inventory of the different types of levies, it proposes an overview for 4 macro-areas (1. the Alpine and Apennine areas; 2. the marginal areas; 3 the expanding areas of the South and Sicily: 4. Po Valley), with a focus on levies that appear to have the greatest impact. That is: tolls and other charges on trade; control of collective resources; personal burdens (military and civil); and also state taxes, monopolies or tributes belonging to the state and granted to the lords in various forms of delegation, not ubiquitous, but sometimes important. Only a few hints are dedicated to judicial proceeds, rights on the circulation of land and people, and tributes on the borderline with the landed-based ones

Abstract: The introduction, after recalling the aims of the PRIN project from which this volume originates and describing the criteria used in the census of the lordships present in 14th-15th century Italy, illustrates the four main themes dealt with in the essays collected in the volume: the sources produced and collected by the lordships, the relations between lordship and external powers, the economy, and the societies subject to the lords. Finally, it asks whether, despite the many geographical differences, it is possible to discern a specificity of the Italian lordship with respect to that of other European regions

Abstract: The use of weighing instruments and the handling of concepts of counting and measuring by Late Prehistory societies have been the subject of few systematic studies in archaeology. This book, resulting from a doctoral thesis, offers a diachronic analysis of weights and balance elements discovered in Western Europe and dated between the 14th and 3rd centuries BC. One of the aims of this work is to reexamine the place occupied by the practice of weighing in protohistoric societies on a large scale, in the diachrony, by means of a uniform protocol and by integrating the contextual data brought by archaeology. Contrary to the general idea, the results of this study paint a picture of practices that are most often poorly embedded within the societies studied and that rarely reach a large-scale metrological homogenisation that would allow for a fluidity of quantitative information during exchanges (weight units used, counting systems employed, permitted measurement intervals, frequency of multiples and fractions of systems). The archaeological remains of the practice of weighing thus lead us to believe that it remained infrequent in Late Prehistory Western Europe and that its evolution between the Late Bronze Age and the 3rd century B.C. is marked by a complex and non-linear relationship of innovations, persistence, transformations of local origin or linked to foreign influences, but also probably of regressions and abandons

Abstract: In recent years archaeological investigation has made an important contribution for ascertaining the possible relationship between the center of the kingdom, namely the king and his capital city, and the regions at the core of the kingdom in different periods of Hittite history. The empire was not a monolithic entity but a complex web of interactions. In this frame the Hittite king emerges in his several roles. In this study I have chosen to focus on the king’s administrative role and the way in which he was present in the territory through a controlled system of land allocation

Abstract: On 11 March 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic, and the disease now affects nearly every country and region. Nearly 18 months later, COVID-19, caused by SARS-CoV-2, continues to present significant challenges to health systems, public health, and the economy of countries across both hemispheres. The morbidity and mortality of the infection caused by SARS-CoV-2 has been significant, and various waves of disease outbreaks initially overwhelmed hospitals and clinics in many countries and continue to do so. This influences everyone, and public health countermeasures have been dramatic in terms of their impact on employment, social systems, and mental health. This Special Issue collection follows on from the Special Issue “COVID-19: Current Challenges and Future Perspectives” and provides an avenue for authors from various disciplines to provide feedback on the response to and our future global preparedness for COVID-19, as well as to disseminate critical information about SARS-CoV-2 and the associated COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract: Resources form the basis of the existence of societies. They can be material and immaterial, and their character is culturally shaped. Resources are usually not used in isolation, but in combination with other resources – as ResourceAssemblages that can change over time as a result of complex relationships. Dealing with such Resource- Assemblages shapes cultural landscapes in which social groups have their base and organise, shape and control these landscapes in a specifi c, culturally formed way according to the existing circumstances. This volume focuses on the current state of research on resource use in the Bronze Age in the south of the Iberian Peninsula with a temporal perspective up to the present time. Short-term and long-term trends of landscape design to facilitate the utilisation of resources will be discussed as well as the interrelation of social dynamics and resource use

Abstract: In Raymond Radiguet’s works, women confronted with the absence of their spouse are a recurrent literary figure. Between the virtuous wife set up as a model and the adulterous woman who is a source of scandal, there are many nuances that encourage us to go beyond this reductive approach. Suspended time’ is precisely a window on the history of married women confronted with the long-term absence of a husband, considering them in their full agentivity and not as victims undergoing the throes of separation. The question of the autonomy and independence of wives in Western societies, which have long been patriarchal, is therefore at the heart of this book. Indeed, the departure of men, whether they are at war, at sea or elsewhere, offers the possibility of partially bypassing the “silences of history” with regard to women and of observing them, on a daily basis, in their confrontation with the absence of the other. This collection of essays is firmly rooted in the history of the family and the history of gender, and offers twenty-four contributions whose approaches alternate between individual trajectories – so many female experiences of absence – and more general perspectives, from Greek antiquity, through Renaissance Italy and revolutionary France, to contemporary Quebec

Abstract: It is exceptional in archaeology to find buildings with a complex and organized plan, built with care, but whose use still escapes us: this is however the case in Roman Africa of the late group of «trough monuments», which had to be designated by one of their structural characteristics, for lack of knowledge of their function. Their stone troughs, widely used in the Roman world, offered multiple possibilities: they are commonplace in the Near East in stables or cowsheds. The contributions gathered in this volume, exploring various Mediterranean regions, review the different contexts in which these elements appear —rural, commercial or linked to the distribution of foodstuffs by the State or the Church— and suggest several hypotheses of interpretation

Abstract: The demands and uses of satellite spatial data are developing and diversifying significantly, in line with the precision, frequency of shooting and size of the images. It is therefore necessary to understand and report on the impact of this growing production on the organisation and rationalisation of the structures that use them, but also on the effectiveness and transparency of public policies that use this information. Spatial data infrastructures (SDIs) are essential devices: they facilitate access to images (acquisition, processing, archiving), as well as the processes of sharing and methodological innovation. They constitute public information goods and mobilise increasing resources, which requires us to question the types of "economic models" to which they belong. This guide, which is both educational and operational, is intended for all those involved in the production or use of spatial information. It allows for an à la carte reading according to centres of interest and disciplines, through multiple boxes and examples. It presents the concepts and methods of economic evaluation applied to spatial information, detailing three types of approach depending on whether one wants to estimate the value of spatial information, measure the economic spin-offs of an SDI or characterise its impacts using multi-criteria approaches

Abstract: The spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has evolved as a global pandemic and the disease has affected nearly every country and region. This pandemic has posed further threats to people due to the emergence of the number of novel SARS-CoV-2 strains with unknown original hosts. Since the start of the pandemic, COVID-19 has overwhelmed health systems worldwide, from crippling health resources to causing paradigms shifts in health care delivery. The various strategies taken to control viral transmission including testing process, quarantine and isolation have had dire psychological and financial implications on individuals and institutions. Furthermore, many countries have implemented lockdowns and other restrictions to curb the virus's spread resulted in disrupted formal education, unplanned fiscal costs on emergency reliefs, and decreased productivity. This Special Issue provides an avenue for authors from various disciplines to better understand the risk factors associated with the spread and severity of COVID-19 infections. It also provides information about the influence of COVID-19 and its countermeasures on local economies, the environment, and mental health. This Special Issue contains 11 research articles and one review

Abstract: In our globalized world, the need to produce quality and safe food has increased exponentially in recent decades to meet the growing demands of the world population. This expectation is being met by acting at multiple levels, but mainly through the introduction of new technologies in the agricultural and agri-food sectors. In this context, agricultural, livestock, agro-industrial buildings, and agrarian infrastructure are being built on the basis of a sophisticated design that integrates environmental, landscape, and occupational safety, new construction materials, new facilities, and mechanization with state-of-the-art automatic systems, using calculation models and computer programs. It is necessary to promote research and dissemination of results in the field of mechanization and agricultural structures, specifically with regard to farm building and rural landscape, land and water use and environment, power and machinery, information systems and precision farming, processing and post-harvest technology and logistics, energy and non-food production technology, systems engineering and management, and fruit and vegetable cultivation systems. This Special Issue focuses on the role that mechanization and agricultural structures play in the production of high-quality food and continuously over time. For this reason, it publishes highly interdisciplinary quality studies from disparate research fields including agriculture, engineering design, calculation and modeling, landscaping, environmentalism, and even ergonomics and occupational risk prevention

Abstract: The agri-market is one of the core sectors of the economy, responsible for producing goods and the fulfilment of nutritional needs. It includes agriculture, which produces food, and the food industry, which involves processing agricultural products. Therefore, it is crucial to analyze the development of agri-markets on both local and international scales. International trade is an important factor affecting the availability of agri-food products. Consequently, it is also important to evaluate economic factors and their roles in the development of a region. This Special Issue aims to solicit original contributions from academics, practitioners and other stakeholders, providing theoretical and empirical analyses focusing on agricultural markets and rural development. The editor encourages submissions that present applications of statistical analysis, case studies, and novel methodologies from parametric and non-parametric related to the topic of the Special Issue. The scope of submission includes original research and review articles on the theme

Abstract: Subject in recent years to a number of natural disasters and political crises alike, the Republic of Haiti faces numerous developmental challenges, of which one of the foremost is food security. Small-scale fi sheries offers concrete, long-term solutions to this problem, notably through increasing the yields produced by small-scale fi sheries and aquaculture, improving the fi shery products industry, and improving the sustainable management of fi sheries resources. Within this context, The Haitian Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development has entrusted the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development with carrying out a joint scientific assessment of the state of small-scale fisheries in Haiti. To this end, IRD has engaged a multidisciplinary committee of Haitian and French scientific and professional experts made up of agronomists, fishery experts, anthropologists, economists, geographers and environmental managers. This publication provides the latest knowledge available on small-scale fi sheries from the perspective of the environment, fi sh species and fi shery; aquaculture, ecological intensifi cation and management; and the fi shery products industry, from local level to the international context. This review of the state of existing knowledge includes more than 50 recommendations for decision-makers and fi shery stakeholders to promote the development of sustainable and equitable small-scale fi sheries in Haiti

Abstract: A landmark text in global biodiversity governance, the Nagoya Protocol was intended to put an end to the uncompensated exploitation of natural resources and knowledge originating in the Global South. Its stated objectives were to establish greater justice and equity between providers and users of genetic resources, to foreground the contributions and knowledge of indigenous peoples and local communities, and to decolonise research, all while promoting the conservation of biodiversity. Thirty years on from the Convention on Biological Diversity from which it originated, the authors examine the legal and practical outcomes of this virtuous framework, which came into force in 2014. Although it has certainly fostered greater recognition of the plurality of knowledge and advanced the traceability of resources, the Protocol has also helped to impose a narrowly market-oriented understanding of nature and knowledge, exacerbating demands for recognition and ownership in the Global South, and effectively restricting access to biodiversity in an era of globalised research. This book presents an interdisciplinary dialogue informed by the experiences of researchers and conservation stakeholders (local communities, managers of collections and natural parks). Looking beyond the Nagoya Protocol, it invites us to question the relationships between societies and nature in light of the ecological emergency. It is intended for anyone with an interest in the economics of biodiversity and environmental justice

Cilji avtorjevega zgodovinskega iskanja in spraševanja so pot v tranzicijo, vstopanje Slovenije v različne mednarodne integracije, makroekonomska stabilizacija, privatizacija in prestrukturiranje gospodarstva. Avtor v argumentirani pripovedi predstavi tudi značilnosti in dosežke procesa gospodarske preobrazbe v Srbiji ter na Hrvaškem, Češkem, Madžarskem in Poljskem.;Three decades of an independent state are certainly a long enough period to give an opinion on the transition process, which formally ended with the country's accession to the EU, even from a historical point of view. Until its formal conclusion, the Slovenian economic transition was described primarily as a story of success, but the period after 2004 was marked by everything but positive opinions and assessments. The book discusses the central processes of economic transition, which changed Slovenia's economic structure, strengthening and modernizing it to such an extent that the country was able to catch up with the developed world much more quickly. The aims of the author's historical search and inquiry are the path to transition, Slovenia's entry into various international integrations, macroeconomic stabilization, privatization, and economic restructuring. He also sheds light on the issue of regional development and identifies the reasons why the intended reduction of interregional disparities did not take place in the period under examination. Special attention is paid to economic crime, which caused enormous financial damage to citizens, companies, and the state as a whole. In a substantiated narrative, the author also presents the characteristics and achievements of the process of economic transformation in Croatia, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland

Abstract: A provocative analysis of market-based interventions into public problems and the consequences.Market-based interventions have been used in attempts to solve numerous public problems, from education to healthcare and from climate change to privacy. Scholars have responded persuasively through critiques of neoliberalism. In Can Markets Solve Problems? Daniel Neyland, Véra Ehrenstein, and Sveta Milyaeva propose a different route forward. There is no single entity knowable as “the market,” the authors argue. Instead, they examine in detail the devices, relations, and practices that underpin these market-based interventions. Drawing on recent work in science and technology studies (STS), each chapter focuses on a different intervention and critically explores the market sensibility around which it is organized. Trade and exchange, competition, property and ownership, and investment and return all become the focus of a thorough exploration of what it means to intervene in public problems, how problems are composed, and how solutions are continually reworked. Can Markets Solve Problems? offers the first book-length STS enquiry into markets and public problems. Weaving together rich empirical descriptions and conceptual discussions, the book provides in-depth insights into the workings of these markets, their continuous evolution, and the consequences. The result is a new avenue of critical inquiry that moves between the details of specific policies and the always-emerging, collective features of this landscape of intervention

Abstract: Weather control. Juxtaposing those two words is enough to raise eyebrows in a world where even the best weather models still fail to nail every forecast, and when the effects of climate change on sea level height, seasonal averages of weather phenomena, and biological behavior are being watched with interest by all, regardless of political or scientific persuasion. But between the late nineteenth century—when the United States first funded an attempt to “shock” rain out of clouds—and the late 1940s, rainmaking (as it had been known) became weather control. And then things got out of control. In Make It Rain, Kristine C. Harper tells the long and somewhat ludicrous history of state-funded attempts to manage, manipulate, and deploy the weather in America. Harper shows that governments from the federal to the local became helplessly captivated by the idea that weather control could promote agriculture, health, industrial output, and economic growth at home, or even be used as a military weapon and diplomatic tool abroad. Clear fog for landing aircraft? There’s a project for that. Gentle rain for strawberries? Let’s do it! Enhanced snowpacks for hydroelectric utilities? Check. The heyday of these weather control programs came during the Cold War, as the atmosphere came to be seen as something to be defended, weaponized, and manipulated. Yet Harper demonstrates that today there are clear implications for our attempts to solve the problems of climate change

Abstract: The first Habsburg estates in Carniola were part of territorial acquisitions in eastern Alpine lands that the ascending dynasty obtained in the war with King Ottokar II of Bohemia towards the end of the thirteenth century and then gradually expanded. Even though the Habsburg dynastic territory had by the 1380s covered almost the entire Carniola, the economic base (landed property, which provided the provincial prince with regular income) was considerably limited. A sizeable portion of the territory was burdened by fiefs and pledges. The redemption of one of the vastest sets of pledged estates in the mid-1430s led to the emergence of account books for the following Carniolan fiscal properties: Kamnik, Gamberk, Goričane, Ig, Višnja Gora, Štatenberk, Novo mesto, Kostanjevica with offices Raka and Vivodina, Pazin, Završje, and Vranja. The account books serve as an extraordinary source for the economic history of the late Middle Ages, by also reflecting the turbulent period of the Habsburg European-wide ascendancy and Frederick's war with the Counts of Celje. The volume constitutes a critical edition of the account books, with the accompanying discussion in the field of property, administrative and political history
Přemyslom proti koncu 13. stoletja in so jih kasneje še razširili. Dobršen del ozemlja so bremenili fevdi in zastave. Ob sprostitvi enega od obsežnejših sklopov zastavljene posesti sredi tridesetih let 15. stoletja so nastali obračuni kranjskih komornih gospostev, in sicer za gospostva: Kamnik, Gamberk, Goričane, Ig, Višnja Gora, Štatenberk, Novo mesto, Kostanjevica z uradoma Raka in Vivodina, Pazin, Završje in Vranja. Knjiga prinaša tekstnokritično edicijo obračunov s spremljajočo uvodno razpravo s področja posestne, upravne in politične zgodovine

Abstract: Commons - the world belongs to us all! The never-ending global financial crisis shows: Market and state have failed. It is therefore not surprising that Commons, the idea of communal organization and use of common goods and resources, find strong support - not only since the Nobel Prize in Economics was awarded to Elinor Ostrom. Commons are more important than ever. They are not based on the idea of scarcity, but draw from abundance. This volume with contributions by 90 international authors from science, politics, and society introduces a modern concept of Commons that radically questions classic assumptions in theories of economy and property, and outlines a different culture of coexistence

Abstract: The territory of present-day Slovenia reached one of its economic and cultural peaks in the 1st millennium BC, when the Hallstatt Culture prospered, its achievements being comparable with the most developed cultures in Ancient Europe. This culture arose from Urnfield Culture roots under the influence of the Mediterranean world~they adopted the new technology of iron production, implemented a new social pattern and fully developed their artistic inspiration
Abstract: V 1. tisočletju pr.

Abstract: Der Kawah Ijen (Grüner Krater) ist ein aktiver Vulkan auf der Ostseite der Insel Java.
Abstract: The Kawah Ijen (green crater) is an active volcano situated on the extreme east side of the island of Java, where the biggest hydrochloric and sulfuric acid lake in the world is located. Since 1968 forced sulfur miners work by day and night, in untenable conditions in a hostile, toxic and harmful crater. Gathering the "yellow gold" these subhumans are paid more than the national average at the price of a life span reduced by the gases they breathe and the weight they carry.

Abstract: Das Arbeiterviertel Sunder Nagri, "schöne Stadt", liegt am Rande Neu-Delhis.
Abstract: Sunder Nagri (Beautiful City) is a small working class colony on the margins of India's capital city, Delhi. Most families residing here come from a community of weavers. The last ten years have seen a gradual disintegration of the handloom tradition of this community under the globalisation regime. The families have to cope with change as well as reinvent themselves to eke out a living. The City Beautiful is the story of two families struggling to make sense of a world, which keeps pushing them to the margins. Film with English subtitles.

Abstract: Life has changed a lot in Bhilai after the Steel Plant has been started. A grandfather explains to his grandson how the situation arose between industrialization and traditional agricultural life. The traditional joint family feels the differences between the common every day life (village, market place, and fieldwork) and the so-called developments of industrialization like jobs and regular income or higher education for children. Traditionally the people were paddy growers, like the grandfather. They had to give up their land for the Bhilai Steel Plant. All village people were afraid of what would come in the future. Many took the offered jobs. As a member of the local panchayat he tried to organize and support paddy growing. Now he combines both - industrial job and traditional agriculture - successfully and well-respected. But the question still remains.

Abstract: Mourning for a high-ranking man, the second chieftain of the group, by a fraction of the Pantaneotheri that now lives in Hapokashitha. After a round dance of adorned persons, with which this event is opened, as is the case for all types of festivals (Reahu), one sees how banana soup is prepared in kettles. Pictures of four mourning relatives, who are lamentingly dancing with personal possessions of the deceased. Repeated sequences of the dances show how they wail and present the possessions of the deceased. While they are still dancing, a Himou begins ... between Heshiwarehima, a nephew of the deceased, and Yoreshiawa, the cheftian of the Hapokashitha group. Subsequently the bones of the deceased are crushed amid the wailing of the mourning group, the bone ashes sieved and part of them mixed in the banana soup and drunk by the mourning guests.

Abstract: Der Film zeigt die verschiedenen, z.
Abstract: The film shows the different, in part concurrently occurring, phases of house construction in Weiler Kabcedama as well as the fabrication of an earthen oven, the preparation and cooking of food and finally the provision of those who participated in building the house with food and drink. On cleaning and cutting the taro slices, one sees the use of the traditional slate knife in an every-day context. The men of the neighbouring hamlets Imarin and Mumyerunde also participate in building the house. The women help in the later phases of house building by bringing clay for the hearth and leaves for the roof. The men are favoured in the serving of food and drink. Only they eat directly at the earthen oven and only they also receive gifts of food to take home. The women, who remain in the background, are given previously cooked food.
