    Abstract: The film demonstrates molding on a rotating molding disk, from the dressing of the molding sand down to the completion of three molds for copper, pots and plow share. Subsequently follows the firing and charging of a small furnace, a pit-furnace operated with a tube blast, with charcoal, pig iron, castings and limestone, as well as the tapping and filling of the molds. The molds are then smashed and the finished castwork is cleaned.

    Abstract: Nach dem Zetteln (mit Hilfe von Zettelgatter und Haspel) und Aufziehen der Kette auf den Kettbaum sowie nach dem Schlichten der Kette beginnt der Webvorgang: Der Weber trägt den Schuß mit dem Schiffchen ein, wobei er jeden Eintrag mit dem Anschlagkamm fest an das Gewebe andrückt. Die Fachbildung erfolgt durch die Betätigung der Tritte, die mit den Schäften in Verbindung stehen. Nach Beendigung der Webarbeit wird der fertige Stoff (Leinwandbindung) vom Warenbaum abgenommen und kontrolliert.
    Abstract: After preparing the warp by means of the warping frame and reel the warp is fixed to the loom. After fixing the front end of the warp to the take up roller and dressing the warp threads, the weaving process is started: The weaver inserts the weft by a shuttle and beats each weft thread into its appointed position in the fabric by means of the reed. By stepping on the pedals, which are connected to the shaft, the different sheds are formed. After finishing the weaving process the weaver removes the linen cloth (plain weave) from the loom and checks it.

    Abstract: After the old loam-floor is removed the ground is covered with dry loam, sprinkled with water and wedged by two cows, which are led across the loam. After that the children of the village compress the loam further playing circle games and the final smoothness of the surface is reached with the use of wooden beaters.

    Abstract: Die zur Initiation gehörende Tatauierung der Unterlippe wird bei Fada an drei Mädchen in strenger Klausur von einer Spezialistin durchgeführt: Wiederholtes Aufstechen der Unterlippe mit einem Akaziendorn und Einreiben der Wunde mit schwarzer Farbe und Ruß. Abschließend Stützen der geschwollenen Unterlippe mit Stäbchen.
    Abstract: The process of tatooing the lip is executed in strict seclusion by a women specialised in this. The lip tatooing is a "rite de passage" for girls entering into womenhood. Only the lower lip is tatooed. With thorns of acazias the woman punctures the skin of the lower lip and rubs black colour and soot into it. The candidate does her best to surpress the pain. The puncturing and dyeing is repeating several times. After having completed tatooing, the lip is thickly swollen and this is why it is supported by a small stick tied with bands to the head.

    Abstract: In der Siedlung Tetua spielen einige Männer und Jungen mit einem aus Pandanusblattstreifen geflochtenen, kubischen Ball. Sie formen einen Kreis, in dessen Mitte ein Mann steht. Der Ball wird mit dem Fuß in beliebiger Richtung weitergegeben.
    Abstract: Men and young boys of the village Tetua build a ring and play this game against one another with a cubical "ball" made of plaited palm leaves. The ball is kicked into the air. One person stands in the middle and can therefore pass the ball along to others in an arbitrary manner, all done by kicking. There is no point system and no winner.

    Abstract: Anläßlich eines Ahnengedenkfestes werden die die Ahnen repräsentierenden Kultgegenstände aus ihrem Sanktuarium geholt, gewaschen und zum Dorfplatz gebracht. Das Sanktuarium wird gebaut. Ein prophetischer Nganga-Tänzer tritt auf. Während die Männer danach auf Netztreibjagd gehen, sammeln die Frauen Fische und Kleintiere und führen Ahnentänze auf. Nach der Rückkehr der Jäger wird ein Mahl für die Ahnen zubereitet. In einem abschließenden Festumzug werden die Kultgegenstände in das inzwischen neu errichtete Sanktuarium zurückgebracht.
    Abstract: Clan members are reunited to honor their departed ancestors with the Tonga Bondo festival. A procession takes the ancestral spirits to a central location in the village where they are ceremoniously placed on a bed of leaves and branches. There are anointings, invocations, gift-giving, and dances for the ancestors. Finally a meal is prepared and offered to the spirits as they are reinstated in their renewed sanctuary.

    Abstract: Zwei Frauen in Hue stellen aus den getrockneten Blättern der Corypha umbraculifera und aus einem dünnen Gerüst aus Bambusstäbchen einen kegelförmigen Hut her. Zwischen zwei Blattlagen gelegte Scherenschnitte aus Papier verzieren den Hut. Nach dem Zusammennähen wird der Hut mit einer Harzlösung imprägniert.
    Abstract: Two women bind fine strips of bamboo into rings of smaller and smaller diameter, laying them on a cone-shaped wooden frame. Oblong leaves, smoothed out and cut to shape, are strung on to a thread and distributed like the parts of a fan over the rings, which lie on the frame. Two such layers are laid one over the other. Paper silhouettes are spread out between them to form a decoration. Finally the layers of leaves are sewn in place on to the bamboo rings, and the leaves are cut flush with the rim of the hat.

    Abstract: Auf einem Dorfplatz von Sara werden durch eine Frau an vier Mädchen im Alter von 7 bis 9 Jahren Exzisionen vorgenommen. Frauen, die durch Gesänge den Mädchen Mut machen und sie festhalten, helfen mit. Nach der vierten Exzision wird die Wundbehandlung mit erhitzter Butter demonstriert.
    Abstract: Among the Omar-Arabs girls are excised at the age of seven to nine years, the custom of excision being explained by a religious commandment of Islam. The film shows excision performed on four girls. In one case the treating of the wounds after excision has also been filmed: A little butter is melted over a charcoal fire, a wad of cotton is soaked with it, and put several times on the wounds.

    Abstract: Auf einem weiten sandigen buddhistischen Gräberfeld am Rande der Stadt Hue wird ein Grab ausgeschachtet und ein Sarg hinuntergelassen. Anwesend sind die nahen Verwandten des Verstorbenen und einige buddhistische Mönche. Nachdem verschiedene Gebete gesprochen worden sind, wird das Grab mit Sand zugefüllt. Die Trauernden verlassen das Gräberfeld.
    Abstract: In a wide and sandy Buddhist burial-ground at the edge of the town of Hué a grave is dug and a coffin let down into it. The close relatives of the deceased, and a few Buddhist monks, are present. After various prayers have been said the grave is filled in with sand. The mourners leave the burial-ground.

    Abstract: In Korbo spielt das Stadtorchester von Mongo, bestehend aus der Oboe Gaita und vier verschiedenen Trommeln, Lobpreisungen. Zunächst werden die Instrumente einzeln vorgeführt, danach erfolgt ein Zusammenspiel.
    Abstract: In many Sudanic towns there are professional musicians organized into orchestras. They play at family festivals, in brothels, and on official occasions, for example on legal holidays, at the visit of a government official, etc. Small towns, Mongo, offer earning oportunity for one orchestra only, bigger towns however often have several orchestras. In order to facilitate the analysis of the orchestra, the instruments in the first part of the film are demonstrated individually. The principal instrument is an oboe called 〈i〉gaita〈/i〉 the player blows up his cheeks and takes a provision of air which allows him to play the long melody without intermission. The other instruments of the orchestra are four diffenrent drums, beaten with wooden drumsticks or with the hand. After the demonstration of the different instruments, the film shows the orchestra playing in ensemble. The musicians proceed with slow rhythmic steps one behind the other. The 〈i〉gaita-player〈/i〉 occasionally turns towards the drummers, gives them the melody to accompany and removes unsteadiness in the synchronous playing together. The orchestra plays two different pieces of music which both belong to the category of the different clothes worn by the male Muslims in Tchadian towns.

The hulls are removed, the peanuts are finely ground, placed in a pot, and cooked in hot water until oil forms on the surface.     Abstract: In einem Dorf am Rio Batoví werden die Früchte des Urucú-Strauches (Bixa orellana) geerntet: Ausschaben des Fruchtfleisches; Verrühren mit Wasser und Aussondern der Samen; Eindicken der roten Flüssigkeit auf dem Feuer zu einer öligen Farbpaste.
    Abstract: The fruits of the urucú-bush (Bixa orellana) are gathered and the seeds coated with a red pulp are removed from the green shells. The seeds are mixed with water and all is passed through a round frame sieve and a rectangular plaited strainer to remove the seeds. The red liquid obtained is put on the fire and thickened into a slightly oily paste, which after hardening will be kept in lumps. Red urucú dye is used chiefly for painting the body and the hair, but also for decorating certain utensils and for dyeing cotton threads.

Abschließend wird der Netzrand mit einem Reifen verstärkt.
    Abstract: Shows the production of a small hand net used for fishing for crabs in standing, shallow water. A woman gathers oil palm leaves and strips them of the leaf material so that only the stems remain. These stems are made into a durable cord which is then braided into a fishing net.

    Abstract: In einem Dorf am Rio Batoví werden Maniokknollen geerntet, abgeschabt, gewaschen, gerieben, mit Hilfe eines Mattensiebes ausgepreßt und in kleinen Ballen getrocknet. Nach Absetzen der Stärke wird der blausäurehaltige Saft abgeschöpft, die Stärkeschicht zerkrümelt und getrocknet. Aus feinem Stärkemehl werden Fladen gebacken.
    Abstract: Manioc tubers are harvested, then scraped off, washed and grated behind the house. The ground mass is squeezed out over a large pot with aid of a sieve and dried in small balls. After the starch has percipitated to the bottom of the pot, the liquid, which contains prussic acid, is ladled off; the layer of starch is crumbled and dried in the sun. Cakes (beijú) are baked from the fine starch-flour.

    Abstract: Männer aus Tetua schneiden Äste und Triebe der Guettarda speciosa und stecken mehr als 200 dieser Stangen bei Ebbe in den Lagunenboden. Während der nächsten Ebbe befestigen sie Kokosblattmatten an den Stangen und beschweren sie zunächst noch mit Steinen auf dem Boden, um sie bei der folgenden Flut hochzubinden. Während das Wasser abläuft, jagen Männer, Jünglinge und Kinder die eingeschlossenen Fische; sie erschlagen sie oder fangen sie mit der Hand.
    Abstract: Several men of the atoll Nonouti cut branches of the Guettarda speciosa plant in the bush and use more than 200 of these stakes to enclose an inlet of the lagoon. During the next ebbtide the men fasten coconut leaf mats to the stakes and weigh them down with stones in order to catch fish swimming into the inlet. When the water recedes men, boys, and children hunt the trapped fish, killing them with bush knives and clubs or catching them with their bare hands.

Thereafter, the yarn is boild in potash leach, and then rinsed twice: one time in ice-cold running water of a brook, and another time in hot water at the house. After cleaning the yarn is dried, rippled to remove wood particles, and finally put on the spools.

    Abstract: Im Dorf Barama tanzt die Trauergemeinde vor dem Gehöft des Verstorbenen zum Orchester, bestehend aus Flöten, Rasseln und Trommeln; kurze Phasen von Paartanz.
    Abstract: The film shows the mutu-dance, one of the traditional Kenga mourning-dances, at fulll length. The mutu-dance takes place in front of the homestead of the deceased, it is one of the great mourning-dances taking place in the afternoon before the burial. All the inhabitants of the village as well as guests from the surrounding villages take part in it. Everybody is in festive attire, the men are armed. As a sign of mourning serveral women wear a thick cotton belt, others have shaved their heads, and the near female relatives have put ashes on their heads. The dance is accompained by the orchestra which consists of flutes, rattles and drums. Often a dancer executes only some sequences of steps, then he goes away and return later on. During the dance some of the men occasionally take one of the women for a partner and dance together with her.

    Abstract: Ausschnitte einer Begräbnisfeier im Dorf Barama: Singen der traditionellen Klagelieder vor dem Gehöft des Verstorbenen und vereinzeltes Tanzen, Ausheben eines Grabes außerhalb des Dorfes, Trauertänze zum traditionellen Festorchester, bestehend aus Flöten, Rasseln und Trommeln, und Aufbruch des Leichenzuges.
    Abstract: The film shows excerpts from a Kenga-Barana burial. Early in the morning several woman of the village have assembeld at the entrance-gate to the homestead of the deceased. They sing the traditional mourning-songs, some woman dance. Near relatives of the deceased have shaved their heads and put ashes on them as a sign of mouring. Many of the female mourners wear mourning belts of cotton strips. The men are sitting in a shelter and mourn silently, two of them sewing the shroud. In a reaped field outside the village the gave is dug. In the afternoon the great mourning-dances take place. They are accompained by the orchestra which consists of flutes, rattles and drums. All the people are in festive attire, the men are armed. With little interruptions they dance all the afternoon up to the burial. The film shows two dances completely. The dances stop when the funeral procession breaks up. Bearers carry the corpse prepared for the burial out of the homestead, in this moment women and children wail, the men brandish their weapons. Most of the people join the funeral procession.

Während des Heischeumgangs wird er von zwei Führern, zwei Eiersammlern und den Schülern der Oberstufe (5. bis 8. Klasse), die die Brauchträger sind, begleitet. Auf einer Wiese am Ettebach wird die Vermummung des Butzen angezündet, und er versucht, unerkannt zu verschwinden. Der mit Ton versehene Teil des Films beginnt nach etwa 7 min Vorführdauer.

    Abstract: The film shows flax-spinning. The fine yarn is spun by the farmer's wife, the tow by the maid. The film presents both spinning procedures in comparison, in order to point out the different working methods. It shows all the stages of the spinning process from the fastening of the material, the drawing out of the starting thread, the feeding of the thread into the spindle, and the continuous spinning to the removing of the finished bobbin.

    Abstract: The Buddhist new-year festival têt is celebrated as a public festival. A part of this festival, the religious ceremony shown in this film, is carried out by seven priest-monks at a pagoda near Hué, and is attended, however, only incidentally, and by only a small number of believers. Before the ceremony begins, the sounds of a bell, and of a gong hung at the entrance to the pagoda, drive away evil spirits. The chief priest and his assistants fall down in prayer before the brightly decorated alter. Then they pace solemnly around it several times.

    Abstract: In einer Lehmgrube auf der Hochfläche des Vorderhunsrücks wird Lehm in alter Weise zu Feldbrandziegeln verarbeitet. Nach dem Trocknen der handgeformten Rohziegel werden diese zu einem mit Kohlekanälen und -schichten durchsetzten, außen mit Lehm abgedichteten Feldbrandofen aufgesetzt und gebrannt. Nach dem Erkalten wird der Ofen aufgebrochen; die sortierten Ziegel werden abgefahren.
    Abstract: In a loam pit on the plateau of the anterior Hunsrück the loam is made into bricks after the old fashion: After drying the handmoulded, unfinished bricks, they are piled up into an open-air-oven, interspersed with channels and layers of coal, externally covered with loam, and burnt. After cooling, the oven is broken open: the sorted bricks are transported away.

    Abstract: Der Tanz wird in der Fasnachtzeit von 12 Mädchen um einen geschmückten Baum, an dem unterhalb der Krone lange Bänder angebracht sind, aufgeführt. Während des Tanzes werden die in den Händen gehaltenen roten und weißen Bänder im Flechtmuster um den Baumstamm gewunden und wieder abgewickelt.
    Abstract: The "Bändeltanz" is performed at prelenten carnival time. The female dancers from a circle around a decorated pole, to which long ribbons have been attached just below the crown. Every dancer holds the end of a ribbon in her hand. The dancers move around the pole in time to the music. At the same time, pairs of them turn around each other. By this means the ribbons are later unrolled.

    Abstract: Ein 13jähriger Bub wird mit Strohzöpfen eingeflochten, mit einer gelben Stofflarve verhüllt und mit Schellenriemen, Tschako, Säbel und Schwanzglocke versehen. Zusammen mit sieben Begleitern geht er von Haus zu Haus. Es werden Sprüche aufgesagt und Eier, Butter und Milch gesammelt. Am Abend des Tages verzehren die Buben gemeinsam die gesammelten Lebensmittel.
    Abstract: A schoolboy from an upper grade is wrapped up in ropes made of straw. Together with seven companios he goes from house to house. Sayings are recited and eggs, butter and mik are collected. On the same evening the boys consume the food together.

    Abstract: The "Straw-man", disguised completely in straw, plays a special role in the Leipferdingen shrovetide. First the dressing of the "Straw-man" is shown in the film. Then he is led along in the procession. On Shrove-Tuesday an imitation of the "Straw-man", a straw dummy, is burned on the market place.

    Abstract: In einer geheimgehaltenen Scheuer wird der Butz in senkrecht stehendes Stroh gehüllt; dann erhält er zwei Strohzöpfe, eine rote Schleife und eine Art Helmbusch aus bunten Papierbändern. Auf die Verhüllung werden Rosetten aufgesteckt. Nach Öffnen des Scheuertores beginnt er mit seinen beiden Führern und den Eiersammlern den Heischegang durch das Dorf. Nach dem Umgang wird die Umhüllung an der Jagst verbrannt. Brauchträger sind die Schüler der siebten Klasse. Der mit Ton versehene Teil des Films beginnt nach etwa 9 min Vorführdauer.
    Abstract: In a secret barn the "Butz" is dressed up with straw, straw plaits, a red ribbon and kind of an aigrette from coloured strips of paper. Rosettes are stuck on the mummery. Then he starts his begging procession through the village with two guides and the egg collectors. After that the mummery is burned at the river. This custom is performed by pupils of the 7th class. The first part of the film is silent, sound film starts after about 9 min.

    Abstract: In der Siedlung Tetua stellt eine Familie in Gemeinschaftsarbeit Kokosfaserschnüre her: die faserigen Hüllen von frisch geernteten grünen Kokosnüssen werden abgelöst und für 2-3 Monate im Lagunenwatt vergraben. Die so gegerbten Hüllen werden geschlagen, gesäubert, getrocknet und von der Hausfrau auf ihrem Oberschenkel mit der flachen Hand zu kleinen Strängen und, verdoppelt, zu einer Schnur gedrillt.
    Abstract: A man from the atoll Nonouti separates the fibrous hulls from freshly harvested green coconuts. Women bury these for two or three months in the lagoon mud. When the hulls are uncovered they are cut, cleaned, and dried. At that time a woman works with the fibers to create small strands which, when doubled, form a cord.

    Abstract: In der Siedlung Tetua bauen zwei Männer in fünftägiger Arbeit eine schwere Reuse in Giebeldachhausform aus Salzbuschschößlingen. Die Stäbe werden mit Kokosschnurwicklungen miteinander verbunden. Die fertige, mit Senksteinen beschwerte und mit Zugseil versehene Reuse wird beködert, ins Wasser geworfen und am nächsten Tag eingeholt.
    Abstract: Shows the construction process of a moray eel trap as used in the village of Tetua on the atoll Nonouti. The house-like trap takes at least five working days to build and is weighted with a stone. Once fish bait has been added, the trap is lowered by a rope to the bottom of the reef. The trap is retrieved on the following day when an eel has been caught in it.

    Abstract: On Whit Sunday a group of six boys go from farm to farm, reciting their rhymed wishes for a blessing. After the recitation, the boys receive the hopitality of the inhabitans. Before leaving, they are given money by the farmer, and eggs by his wife. On leaving the farm they are ragged by the children who stand at the entrance.

    Abstract: Männer in der Nähe von Hue bauen ein etwa 3 m langes Zubringerboot aus Streifen von grünem Bambus: Ein oval begrenztes Diagonalgeflecht wird in der Mitte nach unten durchgebogen, mit seinem Rand an einem länglichen Rahmen aus festeren Latten festgebunden und mit einer Harzlösung abgedichtet.
    Abstract: Strips of green bamboo, of about a thumb's breadth, are plaited diagonally to produce an oval form. This form is depressed in the centre, and its edge is bound to an oblong frame of more substantial laths. The resulting boat, which is about 3 m in length, is tightend on the outside with a solution of resin. This is the most common type of small boat in South Vietnam.

    Abstract: Heu, das aus einer verschneiten Blockhütte herausgezogen wurde, wird gebündelt, auf Farkel verladen und mit Hilfe von losen Kufen zum Waldrand gezogen. Am Steilhang werden die Kufen herausgezogen, um eine Bremswirkung zu erreichen. Unten angekommen, wird das Heu auf Schlitten umgeladen und zum Hof gebracht.
    Abstract: Farmers move to an Alpine pasture to get hay from a block hut. On arrival there the hut is opened. They hay is being bundles and dragged on a Farkel (sort of wooden sledge) to the end of the forest. For the transport movable skids are important. Downwards steep slopes the hay bundles must be braked. Where the slopes are less steep skids are used to reduce the braking effect. At the end of the forest the hay is loaded onto bigger sledges and taken to the farmerhouse.

    Abstract: Vorwiegend von Frauen wird die Erneuerung eines Hausdaches in Berdoba vorgenommen: Aufstellen eines Mittelpfostens, Befestigen des Giebelkranzes, der Dachsparren und von quer dazu gelegten Ästen. Zu Bündeln geordnete Gräser werden dachziegelartig überlappend aufgelegt und befestigt.
    Abstract: The cone-roof of one of the round houses had to be replaced after a fire. First the middle pole supporting the roof is erected. The gable-wreath is attached to the pole and the roof-spars are laid on and tied to the gable-wreath. The spars are loosely placed on the wall. Flexible branches serve as boards. They are connected to the spars by ropes. To thatch the roof two different kinds of grass are used. The grass is put into bundles and fixed to the roof scaffolding with ropes. Each layer is layed down in overlapping brick form. A large grass bundle is put on the tip of the roof and held together by a sling-rope. The work is carried out by women on the whole.

Nach dem Quellen des Teiges werden die Fladen auf einer Tonplatte gebacken.

    Abstract: Mit Hilfe eines kleinen Webgerätes stellt der Weißberg-Bauer in St. Magdalena (Gsiestal) ein Gebrauchsband aus Leinengarn her: Von Garnspulen, auf Querstäben eines Rahmens angebracht, werden die einzelnen Fäden der Kette abgewickelt, die dann durch ein feststehendes Webebrett gezogen und auf eine Rolle gewickelt werden. Anschließend webt der Bauer das Band, indem er mittels eines vereinfachten Weberschiffchens den Schuß in die Kette einführt.
    Abstract: In the "Stube" of the Weißberg-Hof in St. Magdalena, situated in the Gsieser Valley in South Tyrol, the formation stages of a "tape" (utilliy tape) are shown. First, the farmer prepares the small tape-Ioom for weaving. The individual threads of the "warp" are fed from bobbins attached to the horizontal bars of a frame, pulled through a fixed "board", and wound onto a roller. The farmer then weaves the "tape" by feeding the "weft" into the "warp", using a simplified form of shuttle.

Während abwechselnd ein Bursche und der Mädchenchor einen Vierzeiler singt, tanzt der enge Kreis der Tänzerinnen vor dem Halbkreis der Tänzer mit wiegenden Schritten am Ort. Beim Nachspiel der Musikanten, die auf Iglauer Bauernfiedeln spielen, tanzen Burschen und Mädchen gegengleich im Kreis herum.
    Abstract: Ten dance couples of the Iglau folk group sing and dance in the studio of the IWF. While a boy and a girls' choir alternately sing a four lined stanza, the inner circle of the female dancers dances in front of the semicircle of the male dancers. During the interlude of the musicians playing on Iglau vielles the male and female dancers dance in circles.

    Abstract: Zehn Paare des Iglauer Singkreises tanzen im Studio des IWF einen Paartanz, dessen ländlerartige Figuren vom ersten Paar eingeleitet und von den übrigen Tänzern übernommen werden. Der Tanz beginnt sehr langsam im 3/4-Takt, geht dann in Polka-Rhythmus über und endet mit einem Galopp. Es spielen Mitglieder des Singkreises auf Iglauer Bauernfiedeln.

    Abstract: In St. Magdalena (Gsiestal) ist der Roggendrusch mit dem Flegel eine Gemeinschaftsarbeit, bei der Verwandte und Nachbarn mithelfen. Die Garben werden auf dem Boden des Stadels ausgebreitet und mit dem Flegel so lange geschlagen, bis die Körner herausgefallen sind. Anschließend wird das Korn mit Hilfe eines Reinigungsgerätes, der sog. Windmühle, von Staub und Spreu gereinigt.
    Abstract: At St. Magdalena (Gsiestal) the rye is threshed with the help of relatives and neighbours. The crop is spread out on the barn-floor and the grains are beaten out with flails. Finally the grain is separated from chaff and dust by meanss of the so-called windmill.

    Abstract: Im Futterhaus werden die Stengel von den Samenkapseln durch Riffeln befreit und in dünnen Lagen auf einem Wiesenstück ausgebreitet, wo sie einen Fäulnisprozeß durchmachen. Anschließend werden die Stengel in einer abseits vom Gehöft liegenden Dörrgrube gedörrt, dann gebrochen und auf dem Hofplatz gehechelt.
    Abstract: The gradual transformation of flax-stalks into spinning fibres is shown at different working places on the domain of a farm in St. Magdalena in the Gsieser valley of South Tyrol. First of all, the seminal capsules are removed from the stalks. This work is carried out in the feeding house. After this the stalks - now without capsules - are spread out over grass in thin layers where they go through the decaying process under the influence of the weather - this process is not shown in the film. In a drying pit, which lies apart from the farm, the stalks are then dried and broken and are, finally, combed on the courtyard.

    Abstract: According to ancient Christian use the bells are not rung the last days of Holy Week. Assuming the function of the bells, the Rätschebuben (rattling boys) at Ebnet pass through the streets rattling before each mass, in order to call the population to church. As a reward for their rattling and for their serving as an altar boy the boys receive gifts on a procession, at which they recite certain verses.

    Abstract: Hay-harvesting on a high alpine pasture in the Gsies valley with all operations belonging to it: mowing the grass, sharpening and whetting the scythe, tedding and raking the hay, and carrying the hay into the log-cabin. Beside harvesting we also see the behaviour of the workers at meal, preparing the food and saying grace. The film points out the coordination of the works of the different members of the group. Some operations can hardly be carried out without assistance (e. g. the lifting of the hay charge to be carried in).
