    Abstract: Organization design (OD) is a key feature of management theory and practice. It addresses the challenges of constructing and maintaining effective organizations. Essential to its application is the assumption that it can improve organizations and their performance. Faced with the ever-accelerating pace of technological change and the restructuring of markets, many firms have questioned their own organizational structures and processes. Consequently, we have witnessed much organizational experimentation and the development of new forms of organizing over the last decade. How does organization design inform such experimentation? And how can organization design help managers gain insights and advance the current understanding of how organizations can meet environmental challenges and constraints in the future? This book is the third volume to emerge from a series of workshops on organization design, featuring new empirical research and theoretical insights. The chapters are organized around three central themes: (1) Towards New Organizational Forms, (2) Dynamics of Adaption and Change, and (3) Fit and Performance. The chapters cover such timely issues as organizational networks, virtuality, learning, dynamic capabilities, and adaptation. Common to all contributions is a focus on the core theories of OD and emerging perspectives. Es müssen psychologische Zusatznutzen geschaffen werden, um Verbraucher emotional an das Unternehmen bzw. an das Produkt zu binden. Im Rahmen der Unternehmenskommunikation sind jedoch neben den Verbrauchern auch die Mitarbeiter, Führungskräfte, Händler, Franchaisenehmer, Außendienstmitarbeiter sowie Aktionäre - die Kapitalgeber einer Aktiengesellschaft - im Fokus der Bemühungen. Unternehmen schätzen den Einsatz von Eventmarketing und im speziellen von Corporate Events wegen des geringen Streuverlustes und der direkten Ansprache definierter Zielgruppen. Bei diesen kann durch intensive, erlebnisorientierte Kommunikation ein hohes Maß an Involvement erreicht werden und die Botschaften, Visionen und Ziele der Unternehmen im Gedächtnis langfristig verankert werden. Vor einigen Jahren noch war der Begriff "Event" zweifellos ein Modebegriff. Mittlerweile hat das Eventmarketing Einzug in die Kommunikationspolitik der Unternehmen genommen. Hauptversammlungen, die im vorliegenden Buch als Beispiel für ein Corporate Event aus der Praxis dienen sollen, können sich in Deutschland jedoch noch nicht mit dem Erlebnischarakter schmücken. Während US-amerikanische Unternehmen aus ihren Hauptversammlungen regelrechte Spektakel machen, die schon fast eine Kombination zwischen Betriebsausflug, Familienfeier und Kabarettveranstaltung darstellen und zuweilen auch schon einmal in einem Fußball-Stadion stattfinden, herrscht in Deutschland der reine nüchternde Informationscharakter. Keine Spur von Show-Effekt. Dies könnte daran liegen, dass die Unternehmen ihre Glaubwürdigkeit als gefährdet sehen und Aktionäre nicht mehr eindeutig zuordnen könnten, welchen Zwecken ihre Kapitaleinlage dient.     Abstract: Woher kommt die Sehnsucht nach einer ausgeglichenen Work-Life Balance? Hat sich die Welt, insbesondere die Arbeitswelt, so verändert, dass dies die logische Konsequenz der Veränderung ist? Ist das die Antwort auf den Sinnverlust der Arbeit? Angeblich haben Work-Life Balance Maßnahmen auch das Potential der Leistungssteigerung und führen zu mehr Zufriedenheit unter den Arbeitnehmern. Davon gehen zumindest zahlreiche Studien aus. In dieser Arbeit soll dem Phänomen Work-Life Balance auf den Grund gegangen werden. Der Untertitel der Arbeit "Schöne neue Arbeitswelt?" ist eine Anlehnung an Miranda, aus Shakespeares "Der Sturm", die sich irrte, als sie zum ersten Mal anderen Menschen begegnete. Sie rief: "O Wunder! … Schöne neue Welt, die solche Bürger trägt!". Auch Aldous Huxley übernahm in seinem Roman "Schöne neue Welt" diese Fehleinschätzung. Er beschreibt eine Welt im Jahre 2540, die von einem alles kontrollierenden und regulierenden Staates beherrscht wird. In dieser neuen Welt sollte Gemeinschaft, Gleichheit und Stabilität den Menschen Glück bringen. In der heutigen schnelllebigen, unruhigen und von der Globalisierung gekennzeichneten Arbeitswelt sollen betriebliche Work-Life Balance Maßnahmen den Arbeitnehmern eine neue Zufriedenheit und den Unternehmen dadurch höhere Produktivität bringen. In der Personalplanung herrscht Ressourcenknappheit. Die hohen Anforderungen, der demografische Wandel und die sinkende Zahl der qualifizierten Nachwuchskräfte stellen die Personalplanung vor eine Herausforderung. Kann diesem Problem mit einer ausgeglichenen Work-Life Balance begegnet werden? Können die bestehenden Ressourcen dadurch länger "haltbar" gemacht werden und werden nicht so schnell "verschlissen"? Work-Life Balance kann als eine Art Lifestyle-Begriff verstanden werden. Dahinter verbergen sich sowohl theoretische Modelle als auch Beratungs- und Marketingstrategien. In dieser Untersuchung soll Work-Life Balance als mögliche Lösung der derzeitigen und zukünftigen Probleme der Personalplanung und Personalentwicklung untersucht werden.

    Abstract: Joris Knoben illustrates that the number of firm relocations has grown steadily and considerably over the last decade and, at the same time, relationships between organizations have become more important to firm performance. It is often argued that these relationships require geographical stability, and so the author explores how these two seemingly contradictory observations can be reconciled. Insights from economic geography and organization science are utilized to develop a multidisciplinary firm-level perspective on the causes and consequences of firm relocation. Subsequently, this framework is tested empirically. The results show that incorporating the level of embeddedness as well as the spatial mobility of firms into a single framework leads to significantly better explanations of both the spatial behavior of firms as well as of the outcomes of this behavior. All-in-all, the findings indicate that there is a tradeoff between spatial mobility and inter-organizational stability. This multidisciplinary perspective on the relations between organizational networks, spatial firm mobility, and firm performance will be of great interest to a range of scholars, including organization scientists, regional scientists and economic geographers and, managers of relocating companies as well as consultants in this field

    Abstract: Research on social entrepreneurship is finally catching up to its rapidly growing potential. In The Search for Social Entrepreneurship, Paul Light explores this surge of interest to establish the state of knowledge on this growing phenomenon and suggest directions for future research. Light begins by outlining the debate on how to define social entrepreneurship, a concept often cited and lauded but not necessarily understood. A very elemental definition would note that it involves individuals, groups, networks, or organizations seeking sustainable change via new ideas on how governments, nonprofits, and businesses can address significant social problems. That leaves plenty of gaps, however, and without adequate agreement on what the term means, we cannot measure it effectively. The unsatisfying results are apple-to-orange comparisons that make replication and further research difficult. The subsequent section examines the four main components of social entrepreneurship: ideas, opportunities, organizations, and the entrepreneurs themselves. The copious information available about each has yet to be mined for lessons on making social entrepreneurship a success. The third section draws on Light's original survey research on 131 high-performing nonprofits, exploring how they differ across the four key components. The fourth and final section offers recommendations for future action and research in this burgeoning field.

    Abstract: Policy makers in OECD countries are concerned about whether they can maintain their current levels of corporate income tax revenues and how they can create an attractive investment climate for domestic and foreign investors. This report presents the recent trends in the taxation of corporate income in OECD countries and discusses the main drivers of corporate income tax reform and evaluates the gains of fundamental corporate tax reform. The corporate tax-induced distortions are discussed from a domestic and international tax point of view. This study also considers tax revenue and tax complexity issues. The book also explains a series of alternative systems that might be implemented.
