(vgl. Film C 12437 "Indo Pino")
Abstract: Among the Wana people, semi-nomads from the Indonesian forest, Indo Pino is a shaman recognized by everybody. Her nephew, who is also a shaman's son, converted to Christianity some months ago and is now preaching apocalyptic visions. And for him, if these visions come from God, the visions of the shamans inevitably must come from Satan. Through the Christian concepts of sin and original fault, good and evil notions are revised. The traditional healing practices of the shamans are heavily under attack. Under our eyes a fight between two worlds of religious belief is taking place. (see also film C 12437 "Indo Pino")

Abstract: Christianity is growing so rapidly in the global South that soon Africa may be home to the world's largest Christian population. But what sort of Christianity will that be? In Africa, Asia, and Latin America, Christians live in settings very close to the social, cultural, and intellectual milieu in which the New Testament itself was written. For this reason, Philip Jenkins argues, they read the Scriptures with a freshness and authenticity impossible in the prosperous societies of North America and Europe. At first sight, the rising Christianity of the global South appears fundamentalist and deeply conservative. But at the same time these new Christians draw conclusions from scripture that are innovative, creative, and socially liberating, in their impact on social structures and gender relations.
Description / Table of Contents: Shall the fundamentalists win? -- Power in the book -- Old and new -- Poor and rich -- Good and evil -- Persecution and vindication -- Women and men -- North and south -- Appendix one: the Epistle of James -- Appendix two: Psalm 91

Abstract: "In looking back over the enormous changes wrought by the twentieth century, Western observers may have missed the most dramatic revolution of all. While secular movements like communism, feminism, and environmentalism have gotten the lion's share of our attention, the explosive southward expansion of Christianity in Africa, Asia, and Latin America has barely registered on Western consciousness. Nor has the globalization of Christianity - and the enormous religious, political, and social consequences it portends - been properly understood." "Philip Jenkins' The Next Christendom: The Coming of Global Christianity is the first book to take the full measure of the changing face of the Christian faith. Jenkins asserts that by the year 2050 only one Christian in five will be a non-Latino white person and that the center of gravity of the Christian world will have shifted firmly to the Southern Hemisphere."--BOOK JACKET

Abstract: "It is common in modern Western thought to consider the process of secularization ongoing , inevitable, and indeed in many nations nearly complete. A closer look at such phenomena as religious nationalism, modern fascism, and the recurrence of political witch-hunts, however, causes us to question whether a truly secular society is possible. Drawing on studies of a wide range of national societies, including the United States, Japan, Norway, and Sri Lanka, Richard K. Fenn attempts to articulate the nature of a genuinely secular society, to argue for its benefits, and to suggest the conditions under which it could emerge."--BOOK JACKET.

Abstract: The Entlebuch is a pre-alpine rural area in Central Switzerland with a reputation for backwardness and isolation. This film deals with the region's inhabitants and their attitudes towards identity, belief and superstition in their contemporary life between tradition and modernity. The tales and stories of the various protagonists about their own lives show the broad range of attitudes and provide an insight into the regional identity of the valley.

An Mariä Lichtmeß (2.

Abstract: The preparations for the West Syrian liturgy consist of three short ceremonies: preparing Eucharist bread and wine, vesting the liturgist, and the introductory prayer of the liturgy. Each piece of vestment and each liturgical act is of symbolical value. These ceremonies are performed before the beginning of the liturgy in the sacristy or beside the altar. In the film they are celebrated by the Archbishop of Mossul Gregorius Saliba.

Abstract: The liturgical ceremonies are of great importance within the Syrian Orthodox Church. They enabled the faithful to abide by their Christian faith even in times of oppression. Though the making of eucharist bread is not an essential part of Christian faith, it is of high symbolical value and occupies an important position in the spiritual and liturgical tradition of the Orient. The dough is made from flour, salt, water and leaven.
