    Abstract: Hans Jürgen Heringer legt seine Einführung in die interkulturelle Kommunikation mittlerweile in der 4. Auflage vor (Vorauflage hier nicht angezeigt). Er beschreibt zunächst allgemeine sprachwissenschaftliche Aspekte. Er stellt Kommunikationsmodelle vor, beschreibt den Zusammenhang zwischen Zeichen, deren Bedeutung und Verständnis, beschäftigt sich mit Konversation, Gesprächsanalyse, Sprechakttheorie sowie mit nonverbaler Kommunikation. Er setzt Sprache als Grundlage der Kommunikation in Beziehung zu Kultur und Wissen und beschreibt kulturelle Differenzen. Diese Themen nehmen bereits gut die Hälfte des Titels ein, bevor interkulturelle Aspekte der Sprache betrachtet werden. Heringer beschreibt vor allem kritische Situationen und Ereignisse als Brennpunkte interkultureller Kommunikation und stellt exemplarisch Kulturstandards und Stereotypen vor. Betont wissenschaftlich-akademisch geschrieben, illustriert er seine Ausführungen mit Grafiken, Bildern, Beispielen und Anregungen für eigene Überlegungen. Ergänzend möglich, nach H.R. Yousefi (ID-G 20/14) und "Interkulturelle Kommunikation" (BA 7/06). (3)

    Abstract: "This book examines language and identity among White American middle and upper-middle class youth who affiliate with Hip-Hop culture. Hip-Hop youth engage in practices that range from thec onsumption of rap music and fashion to practices like MC-ing (writing and performing raps or "rhymes"), DJ-ing (mixing records to produce a beat for the MC), graffiti tagging, and break-dancing. Cutler explores the way in which these young people stylize their speech using linguistic resources drawn from African American English and Hip-Hop slang terms. She also looks at the way they construct their identities in discussions with their friends, and how they talk about and use language to construct themselves as authentic within Hip-Hop. Cutler considers the possibility that young people experimenting with AAVE-styled speech may improve the status of AAVE in the broader society. She also addresses the need for educators to be aware of the linguistic patterns found in AAVE and Hip-Hop language, and ways to build on Hip-Hop skills like rhyming and rapping in order to motivate students and promote literacy"--

    Abstract: Sind antimuslimische Diskurse Ausdruck einer aktuellen Form des Rassismus? Anhand von Fallbeispielen - darunter auflagenstarke Buchpublikationen, Zeitungsartikel, Webseiten und Zuschriften an muslimische Verbände - geht Yasemin Shooman den antimuslimischen Narrativen und ihren Funktionen nach. Sie untersucht die artikulierten Selbst- und Fremdbilder ebenso wie die Rolle historischer Bezüge und arbeitet das Repertoire dominanter antimuslimischer Stereotype und Topoi heraus. Die empirische Analyse trägt auch zur Theoriebildung in dem relativ jungen Forschungsfeld bei und zeigt, dass eine Rassifizierung religiöser Zugehörigkeit zu beobachten ist, die auf dem Ineinandergreifen der Kategorien Kultur, Religion, Ethnizität, Geschlecht und Klasse basiert.

    Abstract: Humor »mit Migrationshintergrund« war bis vor zehn Jahren vor allem in den Nischen der Kleinkunstbühnen und in privaten Gesprächen von MigrantInnen zu hören. Dies ändert sich in den letzten Jahren mit KomikerInnen wie Bülent Ceylan oder Kaya Yanar, aber auch Fernseh- und Radioproduktionen wie »Taxi Scharia« oder »Türkisch für Anfänger« erfreuen sich massenmedialer Aufmerksamkeit. Welche Bedeutung hat das Komische für die öffentliche aber auch private Verhandlung von Migration? Die verschiedenen Spektren komischer Darstellungspraktiken werden hier erstmals wissenschaftlich untersucht und mit Methoden der Soziolinguistik, der Migrationssoziologie und der Kultur- und Sprachanthropologie aufgefächert. Betrachtet werden massenmediale wie subkulturelle Comedy-Produktionen aus Ankunfts- und Herkunftsländern, Komik in Alltagsgesprächen von Jugendgruppen mit und ohne Migrationserfahrungen sowie komische Selbstdeutungen und Reflexionen von Migrantinnen und Migranten. Humor wird hierbei als wichtiger Austragungsort der Auseinandersetzung um Migration erkennbar und erfüllt vielschichtige Funktionen, so etwa im Rahmen der Inszenierung von Eigenem und Fremdem oder in der Diskussion um Rassismus. Aber auch für die Migrantinnen und Migranten selbst spielt das Komische eine wichtige Rolle und dient der Aushandlung von Konflikten und schwierigen Erfahrungen sowie dem Entwurf neuer Selbstbilder. Dabei treten besondere Freiheiten wie auch Grenzen des Komischen in den Blick: Die Frage, wer mit wem wie und worüber lacht, ist gekoppelt an die Frage, wer mit wem wie und worüber lachen ›darf‹.

    Abstract: "How do people organize their body movement and talk when they interact with one another in the material world? How do they coordinate linguistic structures with bodily resources (such as gaze and gesture) to bring about coherent and intelligible courses of action? How are physical settings, artifacts, technologies, and non-linguistic sign-systems implicated in social interaction and shared cognition? This volume brings together advanced work by leading international scholars who share video-based research methods that integrate semiotic, linguistic, sociological, anthropological, and cognitive science perspectives with detailed, microanalytic observations. Collectively they provide a coherent framework for analyzing the production of meaning and the organization of social interaction in the complex and heterogeneous settings that are characteristic of modern life: ranging from ordinary and bilingual conversation to family interaction, and from daycare centers to work settings such as airplanes, clinics, and architects' offices, and to activities such as auctions and musical performances.     Abstract: Dieses Buch behandelt aus vergleichender Perspektive die sprachlichen Verhältnisse und Familienkulturen von deutsch-polnischen Familien (in denen Frauen Polinnen sind) in Deutschland und in Polen. Der Ansatz ist interdisziplinär und berührt Gebiete der Soziolinguistik und der Familiensoziologie. Ziel der Studie ist zu erfahren, wie die sprachlichen und familiären Verhältnisse in deutsch-polnischen Familien aussehen und wie sie festgelegt werden. Die empirische Untersuchung besteht aus zwei Teilen: der Fragebogenuntersuchung und den Interviews. Die Arbeit liefert Erkenntnisse über die Einzelsprache und -kultur hinaus in Bezug auf Bilingualität und Bikulturalität, indem sie Auskunft über Einigungsprozesse bezüglich der Schaffung einer Familiensprache und -identität in einer bikulturellen Familie gibt

    Abstract: In this volume leading academics in Interactional Linguistics and Conversation Analysis consider the notion of units for the study of language and interaction. Amongst the issues being explored are the role and relevance of traditionally accepted linguistic units for the analysis of naturally occurring talk, and the identification of new units of conduct in interaction. While some chapters make suggestions on how existing linguistic units can be adapted to suit the study of conversation, others present radically new perspectives on how language in interaction should be described, conceptualised and researched. The chapters present empirical investigations into different languages (Danish, English, Japanese, Mandarin, Swedish) in a variety of settings (private and institutional), considering both linguistic and embodied resources for talk. In addressing the fundamental question of units, the volume pushes at the boundaries of current debates and contributes original new insight into the nature of language in interaction.

    Abstract: Main description: Verbal-Antisemitismus manifestiert sich als Gewalt durch Sprache. Die vorliegende Studie basiert auf der Analyse von über 10.000 E-Mails bzw. Briefen an den Zentralrat der Juden und die israelische Botschaft. Sie widmet sich der Frage, wie über sprachliche Äußerungen spezifische Vorstellungen über Juden konstruiert und aktiviert werden. Wann ist eine Äußerung als antisemitisch einzustufen? Inwiefern stellt Anti-Israelismus eine neue Variante des Verbal-Antisemitismus dar? Die beiden Autoren behandeln die verschiedenen verbalen Manifestationen des aktuellen Antisemitismus und deren zugrundeliegenden geistigen Vorstellungen sowohl aus historischer als auch aus sprach- und kognitionswissenschaftlicher Perspektive.
    Abstract: Main description: Verbal anti-Semitism reveals itself as violence in linguistic form. This study is based on the analysis of over 10,000 e-mails and letters sent to the Central Council of Jews in Germany and the Israeli Embassy. It considers the question of how specific ideas about Jews are constructed and activated. At which point can a statement be regarded as anti-Semitic? To what extent does anti-Israelism represent a new variant of verbal anti-Semitism? The two authors examine the various verbal manifestations of current anti-Semitism and the mental images on which these are based, applying both a historical perspective and the perspective of linguistic and cognitive science.

    Abstract: The first volume "Migration and integration research - multidisciplinary perspectives" is the opener for the "Migration and Integration" series and aims at a disciplinary reintegration of relevant research.     Abstract: In both Manchester and Vienna, there is much anecdotal evidence about the social implications of one`s spoken language variety. However, the evaluation of a person`s character based on the way they speak might not necessarily be the same in different countries with different languages. If evaluations of a speaker`s social class, professional status and general character change according to the country and language, then in which ways? By applying a very similar methodological framework in each of these cities, this study sets out to examine the extent to which perceptions of a speaker may vary with the social and linguistic context of each urban environment. Many sociolinguistic studies have already investigated how the way we talk influences the perceptions others have of us. The research presented in this book expands on this idea by directly comparing data across two nations with two different languages.

    Abstract: Die kulturtheoretische Aktualität der Kultursemiotik Jurij Lotmans steht im Mittelpunkt dieses Bandes. Die teils theoretischen, teils kulturhistorisch angewandten Beiträge namhafter Literaturwissenschaftler (Koschorke, Lachmann u.a.) fokussieren vor allem auf zwei Konzepte: das räumliche Konzept der Semiosphäre, in dem der Peripherie als Zone indeterminierter kultureller Dynamik zentrale Bedeutung zukommt, und das zeitliche Konzept von kultureller Diskontinuität, von Lotman »Explosion« genannt. Peripherie und Explosion erweisen sich als besonders gut anschließbar an aktuelle Theorien des Politischen und der sozialen wie kulturellen Dynamik, die im Kontext der Globalisierung und der Absage an utopisch-teleologische Emanzipationstheorien Phänomene von Subversion und kreativer »Unterbrechung« in der historischen »conditio« der Gegenwart ausmachen
