    Abstract: Ein Mann in Gaikorobi, mit einer Rute in der Hand, geht zu einem Strauch und bricht einige Blätter ab. Er hält sie vor das Gesicht, sagt einen Spruch auf und zischt auf die Blätter sowie in verschiedene Himmelsrichtungen und schlägt mit den Blättern und der Rute in die Luft sowie auf den Boden.
    Abstract: Yangendambui, a man from the section Kraiembet of the village Gaikorobi, goes to a shrub and breaks off some leaves. He says a spell on these leaves and on a rod. Then he hisses on the leaves and in various quarters and beats with the leaves and the rod in the air and on the ground.

    Abstract: At the beginning of the mortuary ceremony men, women, and children stand in front of a dwelling house. The man Singembandi calls names of ancestors who will be present during the feast. Behind a screen men dance and carry ancestor figures with modelled skulls, blow long bamboo flutes and beat on a lithophone and coconut shells. In front of the screen women and children sit as spectators. Some men sing name songs. In another dwelling house mourning women chant a death song.

Ein Mann reibt Sago auf die Haut des Schweines und schlägt mit einer Palmblattrippe auf den Erdboden. Das Schwein wird an einem Stock festgebunden und in das Dorf getragen.
    Abstract: Four men bring a killed domestic pig to the hamlet Alembe. The woman who cared for the pig sits on the dead animal and mourns. Her husband's brother rubs sago on the skin of the pig and beats with the rib of a palm leaf on the ground. The pig is tied to a stick and is carried to the village where a mortuary ceremony is celebrated for four deceased people.

    Abstract: Gäste vom Rio Ocamo, die zum Palmfest nach Klavateri gekommen sind, ziehen mit Bündeln und Waffen durch eine Bananenpflanzung, verzehren dort das von den Gastgebern ausgelegte Wildbret sowie Palmfrüchte und Getränke. Tänzer werden bemalt und geschmückt, umkreisen in rhythmischem Lauf den Dorfplatz, schwingen Waffen und Palmwedel und werden in der Mitte von nichtgeschmückten Männern zum Schein angegriffen.
    Abstract: Equipped with bundles, then men also carrying their arms, the participants of the festival walk across a banana plantation. There they also eat the game killed on the preceding hunting. Everybody then paints his body and puts on ornaments for dancing the bleigei-dance in the village. The dancers first appear one by one, moving around the village square waving their bows and arrows and palm branches. Boys too take part in the dancing. The dancers then move once more around the village square all at a time. A group of men keeps motionless in the centre of the circle, another one performs a kind of mock attack.

    Abstract: Zwei Männer aus Bisha-ashi-teri sammeln Rindenspäne der zur Curare-Bereitung verwendeten Pflanzen. Im Dorf werden zunächst Giftpfeilspitzen aus Palmholzsplittern hergestellt, dann werden die Rindenspäne mit heißem Wasser überbrüht. Mit dem curarehaltigen Wasser werden die über einem Feuer befestigten Pfeilspitzen mehrmals bestrichen. Wenn das Wasser verdampft und das Gift an den Spitzen eingedickt ist, werden diese in einem Bambusköcher aufbewahrt.
    Abstract: Two men detach bark shavings from the plants used for extracting curare and bring them wrapped in leaves to the village. There arrow tips are made from palm slivers. Hot water is poured upon the shavings in a funnel made of leaves, and liquid curare drops and collects in a half gourd. The arrow tips, hardened over the fire, are smeared several times with the curare-poison. When the water has evaporated and the poison applied to the tips has become hard, the tips are put in a bamboo quiver where they will be taken out for use and inserted in the arrow-shafts.

    Abstract: Ein jüngerer Helfer aus Bisha-ashi-teri bläst mit einem Blasrohr mehrmals Yópo-Schnupfpulver in beide Nasenlöcher eines älteren Zauberarztes, der sich aus der Hocke erhebt, mit Hohlkreuz und langsam tänzelndem Schritt auf und ab trippelt und dabei die Arme rhythmisch schlenkert. Er ahmt verschiedene Tiergeister nach, die er gleichzeitig in Gesängen anruft.
    Abstract: After a young man has blown with a tube pinches of yópo powder into his nose, an elderly man rises from his cowering position and performs, under the influence of the drug, dancing steps in front of the hut, accompanied with different gestures of his arms. He imitates different animal spirits which he invokes at the same time in special songs.

    Abstract: Frauen aus Bisha-ashi-teri graben in der Pflanzung Maniokknollen aus, tragen sie ins Dorf, schälen und waschen sie im Fluß. Dann werden die Knollen auf Reibebrettern gerieben und in Preßschläuchen entgiftet. Aus dem Mehl werden auf Herdplatten Fladen gebacken.
    Abstract: Women dig up manioc tubers in the plantation and carry them in baskets to the village. There the tubers are freed from their outer skin and then washed in the river. Brought back to the village, they are rasped on rasping boards placed on banana leaves. The resulting mass is put in pressing bags and freed by traction from its poisonous sap. Flat cakes are made from the manioc-flour and baked on iron plates set over the fireplace.

    Abstract: Frauen aus Bisha-ashi-teri pflücken Baumwollkapseln, entkernen sie und formen sie zu Ringen. In der Hängematte sitzend spinnen sie mit einer freihängenden Handspindel (30-40 cm lang, Kalebassenwirtel, Widerhaken) einen rechtsgedrehten Faden, nachdem die Spindel auf dem rechten Oberschenkel mit der rechten Handfläche von hinten nach vorne rasch angedreht wurde (Bakairi-I-Methode).
    Abstract: Two women gather cotton bolls in the plantation, seperate in a basket the cotton from its seeds, arrange the cotton wool in rings and spin it on a spindle suspended in the air, to which they have imparted a rotary motion by rolling it on the tigh.

    Abstract: Ein Mann erklettert mittels eines Gerüsts aus zwei Stangenkreuzen eine Pijiguao-Palme (Guilielma gasipaes) bis zum Fruchtstand, erntet die Büschel mit roten Früchten und läßt sie an einer Liane zu Boden, wo sie von seinem Sohn in Empfang genommen werden.
    Abstract: To avoid hurting himself by the thorny stem, a Waika man climbs a pijiguao-palm tree by means of a framework consisting of two wooden crosses which he displaces until he reches the fruits at the top of the palm-tree. He passes down the fruits in bunches by means of a liana which is received on the ground by his small son.

Ein Mädchen laust das andere, zerbeißt und verzehrt die Tierchen.
    Abstract: Women and girls do each other's hair and delouse one another: An elderly woman seated in a hammock shears a younger woman the crown of the head with a cutting piece of reed-grass and shapes the edges of the hair with a sharp piece of bamboo. Girls successively delouse one another and eat the lice.

    Abstract: In der Mitte des von Hütten rings umgebenen Dorfplatzes von Bisha-ashi-teri ist ein knapp mannshohes Blätterbündel aufgestellt, auf das eine Reihe meist jüngerer Bogenschützen in mehreren Runden ihre Pfeile abschießt, die fast alle ihr Ziel erreichen. Bogen- und Pfeilhaltung sowie das Eindringen der Geschosse sind in Nahaufnahme sichtbar.
    Abstract: Several mostly young archers shoot their arrows in several rounds at a nearly man-tall bundle of leaves set up in the centre of a village square surrounded by huts. Almost all the arrows hit the mark. The manner of holding bow and arrow as well as the missiles hitting the mark are recorded in close-ups.

    Abstract: Eine junge Frau aus Bisha-ashi-teri pflückt die stacheligen Onoto-Früchte in der Pflanzung, entkernt sie zu Hause, sammelt die fettigen roten Kerne in einer Korbschüssel, versetzt sie in einer Halbkalebasse mit Wasser und kocht sie in einem Aluminiumtopf, bis das Wasser verdampft ist und der fertige Farbstoff übrigbleibt.
    Abstract: A young woman collects prickly onoto fruits in the plantation, removes at home their fatty red seeds, gathers the seeds in a basket, mixes them in a half gourd with water, and boils them in an aluminium pot until the water has evaporated and the finished dye is left.

    Abstract: In einer Pflanzung in Bisha-ashi-teri graben zwei junge Frauen zwei Vogelspinnen aus, wickeln sie in Blätter und bringen sie nach Hause. Dort rösten sie die Spinnen auf kleinem Feuer und verzehren die eßbaren Teile mit frisch gerösteten Kochbananen.
    Abstract: In a plantation two young women dig out two bird spiders from their holes, wrap them in leaves and bring them home. There they roast the spiders on a slow fire and eat the edible parts with freshly roasted cooking-bananas.
