Rezension: Rinke, Professor in Berlin und einer der profiliertesten Forscher zur lateinamerikanischen Geschichte (vor allem: 2010) beschäftigt sich hier mit der Conquista, der Eroberung des gewaltigen Reiches der Azteken. Entgegen der verbreiteten Ansicht, dass Krankheiten und die Überlegenheit der Waffen den Untergang der blühenden Kultur besiegelten, beweist Rinke, dass es vornehmlich das strategische Vermögen des Hernán Cortés waren, der die Rivalität zwischen den frühmexikanischen Reichen ausnützte und so Verbündete unter den indigenen Völkern rekrutierte. Rinke versteht es durch einen souveränen Einsatz selten berücksichtigter Quellen die Geschichte und die Rivalitäten zwischen den Konquistadoren spannend und plausibel zu erzählen und gleichzeitig die Welt der Azteken lebendig werden zu lassen. - Sehr empfehlenswert und bereits in mittlere Bibliotheken einzusetzen. Neben B. Riese: "Das Reich der Azteken" (2011), der das alte Reich der Azteken am besten vermittelt, vor V. Huber: "Die Konquistadoren" (2019) und M.
