    Abstract: Zwei Männer bauen aus sechs längs gespaltenen Stücken eines Baumstämmchens, die auf zwei Holme gelegt werden, ein einfaches Xylophon. Unter die Klanghölzer wird Gras gelegt, so daß sie frei schwingen können. Das Stimmen erfolgt nach Terzintervallen durch Austauschen und abgewogenes Zuhauen der Hölzer. Anschließend nehmen zwei Spieler einander gegenüber Platz und musizieren mit verteilten Stimmen.
    Abstract: Two men make a simple xylophone. Pieces of a small tree, split length-wise, are put upon two bars of wood and underlaid with grass to make them swing freely. The tuning to thirds is done by changing and by precise cutting of the pieces of wood. Finally two musicians sit down opposite each other and start to play, each one with a different part.

    Abstract: Mit einem Stöckchen schlägt der Spieler die Bogensaite des Musikbogens vor dem Mund an, während er mit einem zweiten Stöckchen die Länge des schwingenden Teils der Saite verändert und so zwei verschiedene Grundtöne hervorruft. Die Tonfolgen beinhalten Sätze der Baule-Sprache, zumeist Sprichwörter.
    Abstract: The Baule, relatives of the Ashanti of Ghana, play the musical bow as many other African tribes do. The string of the bow is struck with one small stick in front of the mouth of the player while with a second small stick the length of the string is changed in order to create two different key notes. The musical bow is player for the pleasure of the musician only, since the slight overtones can not be heard by the bystanders. Only the sound-film makes it possible to hear how the player uses his mouth as a sounding board. The succession of notes means, sentences of the language of the Baule, most of them being proverbs.

    Abstract: Unter eine erregte Menschenmenge mischen sich Masken mit ihrem Gefolge. Sie zeigen die für sie jeweils charakteristischen Bewegungstypen. Einzelne Begleiter zeichnen sich durch Blatt- und Bastwedel sowie bestimmte Gesten und Tanzschritte aus. Abschließend tanzen und singen die Frauen des Dorfes.
    Abstract: At the end of the Yams festival, which for the northern Dan separates the old year from the new year, the masks leave the bush and come down from the mountains to the village. They dance outside the village and then move over the country to greet the government officials. On the way each mask shows for our team typical parts from their repertoire.

    Abstract: The Gere (Kran) have male dancing masks and female singing masks. In contrast to the swift moving mask-dances of other tribes of the Ivory-coast, like the Baule or the Guro, the Gere mask dances are reticent. The costumes are impressive with puffy bast skirts and luxurious feather ornaments. The masks form a secret organization. They also practice jurisdiction, lead warriors into war and protect bush and river against abuse.

Afterwards two solo-dancers appear.

    Abstract: Eine Gruppe von sieben frischbeschnittenen Tschokwe-Knaben übt unter begleitenden Trommelschlägen Tanzschritte für das Dorffest am Ende ihres Initiations-Buschlagers. Die einstudierten rhythmischen Bewegungen werden bei der öffentlichen Vorführung von den bemalten und besonders gekleideten Knaben als Gruppentänze und als einzeltänzerische Sequenzen gezeigt. Die tanzenden Jungen werden dabei von den übrigen Dorfbewohnern gefeiert und beschenkt.
    Abstract: A group of seven newly circumcised Tschokwe boys practises dancing steps accompanied by drum beats for the village feast at the end of their initiation bush camp. The specially dressed and painted boys show their trained rhythmical movements in a public performance in group dances and in solo sequences. The dancing boys are celebrated and receive presents from the other villagers.

    Abstract: Begleitet von Trommelschlägen, Rasseln und dem rhythmischen Klatschen der Zuschauer tanzen zwei Männer den Tschiheu-Maskentanz. Der Tanz der Tschihongo-Maske wird von einer einzelnen Person aufgeführt, die dabei mit den Zuschauern kommuniziert. Beim Tanz der Mwana-Pwo-Holzmaske imitiert der Tänzer eine weibliche Person. Weitere Tanzformen sind der Kreistanz der Frauen um eine Trommel und der Tanz einer Frauengruppe um eine kranke Frau, wodurch der in der Frau sitzende Dämon ausgetrieben werden soll.
    Abstract: Accompanied by drum beats, rattles and rhythmical clapping of the spectators two men dance the Tschiheu mask dance. The dance of the Tschihongo mask is performed by a single person communicating with the bystanders. The dancer of the Mwana Pwo wooden mask imitates a woman. Other dance formations are a women's circle dance around a drum and a women's group dance around a sick woman in order to drive out her demon.

    Abstract: Am Karsamstag vor dem Frühgottesdienst entzündet der Mesner den von Jungen zusammengetragenen Holzstoß vor der Kirche. Nach der Feuerweihe durch den Priester entzündet der Mesner die Osterkerze, die in die Kirche getragen wird. Während des Gottesdienstes bringen die Buben Baumschwämme zum Glimmen und tragen das geweihte Osterfeuer in die einzelnen Häuser, in denen die Hausfrauen das neue Feuer entfachen.

    Abstract: Quiché tanzen zu Marimba-Xylophon und Zylindertrommel Volkstänze und kirchliche Tanzschauspiele. Andere Spiele: "Baile de la Conquista", "Baile de los Gracejos" (mit dunklen Masken und Peitschen), Stierkampftanz. Im "Baile del Volador" fliegen zwei Indianer mit Seilen von einem hohen Kiefernpfahl. Aufgenommen mit 20-22 B/s.
    Abstract: Quiché indians dance folk dances and church dances accompanied by the marimba-xylophone and cylindrical drum. Other games: "Baile de la Conquista", "Baile de los Gracejos" (with dark masks and whips), bullfight dance. At "Baile del Volador" two indians fly with ropes from a tall pine pole. Recording speed 20-22 fps.

    Abstract: Drei Gbande-Frauen entkernen Baumwolle. Zwei von ihnen lockern die getrockneten Fasern über der Sehne eines kleinen Bogens auf. Schließlich wird die derart vorbereitete Baumwolle zu einem Faden gezogen und auf eine Spindel gedreht. Aufgenommen mit 20 B/s; Vorführgeschw. 18 B/s.
    Abstract: Three Gbande women deseed cotton. Two of them spread out the dried fibres on the string of a little bow. Finally the prepared cotton is pulled into a thread and spun onto a spindle. Recording speed 20 fps, projection speed 18 fps.
