    Abstract: "Bringing together an interdisciplinary group of scholars, Post-Politics and Civil Society in Asian Cities examines how the concept of 'post-politics' has manifested across a range of Asian cities, and the impact this has had on state-society relationships in processes of urban governance. This volume examines how the post-political framework - derived from the study of Western liberal democracies - applies to Asian cities. Appreciating that the region has undergone a distinctive trajectory of political development, and is currently governed under democratic or authoritarian regimes, the book articulates how post-political conditions have created obstacles or opportunities for civil society to assert their voice in urban governance. Chapters address the different ways in which Asian civil society groups strive to gain a stake in the development and management of cities, specifically by looking at their involvement in heritage and environmental governance, two inter-related components in discourses about establishing liveable cities for the future.     Abstract: "This volume highlights the ways in which the prospect of peace can generate anxieties and consequently set in motion social and political processes that reproduce and reactivate conflicts. In analysing this issue, the volume builds on the notion of ontological security and its recent applications to international relations theory. Although conflicts threaten the physical security of the parties involved, they also help settle existential questions about basic parameters of life, being, and identity, and thus over time become sources of ontological security. The prospect of peace, through the resolution or transformation of conflict, threatens to unsettle the stability and consistency of self-narratives, and their associated routines and habits at the individual, group, and state levels.The contributors argue two key points: 1) that ontological insecurity may set in motion political and social processes that reproduce and reactivate conflicts; 2) that coping with peace anxieties necessitates the formulation of alternative self-narratives at the individual, societal, and state levels that re-situate the Self in relation to Other and to the world at large. Consequently, the book analyses the ways in which, and the conditions under which, conflict resolution induces ontological insecurity, and the different ways in which ontological insecurity has prevented the successful culmination of peace processes in different conflict contexts, including Cyprus, Israel-Palestine and Northern Ireland. This book will be of much interest to students of critical security studies, conflict resolution, peace and conflict studies, social theory and IR in general"..

Three analytical approaches are introduced and compared, describing a wide range of texts from the perspectives of register, genre, and style. The primary focus of the book is on the analysis of registers. Part 1 introduces an analytical framework for studying registers, genre conventions, and styles. Part 2 provides detailed descriptions of particular text varieties in English, including spoken interpersonal varieties (conversation, university office hours, service encounters), written varieties (newspapers, academic prose, fiction), and emerging electronic varieties (e-mail, internet forums, text messages). Finally, Part 3 introduces advanced analytical approaches using corpora, and discusses theoretical concerns, such as the place of register studies in linguistics, and practical applications of register analysis.     Abstract: In Zeiten beschleunigten gesellschaftlichen Wandels hat das Generationsthema Konjunktur. Die wissenschaftsgeschichtliche Rekonstruktion des Generationenverständnisses seit der Antike offenbart jedoch, dass die bei Karl Mannheim angelegte Verbindung von Generationstheorie und Theorien des sozialen Wandels im Zuge der Professionalisierung der Soziologie verloren ging.Diese Studie schlägt durch eine innovative Interpretation der klassischen Vorlage die Brücke zu aktuellen Theorieentwicklungen. Unter Rückgriff auf die Analysen von Margaret S. Archer und Shmuel N. Eisenstadt stellt die Reformulierung des Generationskonzeptes den Konstitutionsprozess historischer Generationen als einen sozialen Mechanismus kulturellen Wandels und kollektiver Kreativität heraus. Damit wird nicht nur der Anschluss an die makrosoziologische Diskussion neu eröffnet, sondern auch die kulturtheoretische Frage nach der Vermittlung von Biographie und Geschichte wieder aufgenommen

    Abstract: Wie jede andere akademische Disziplin steht auch die Soziologie vor der zwiespältigen Aufgabe, in einem Studiengang berufsqualifizierend ausbilden zu müssen und gleichzeitig den eigenen wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs heranzuziehen. Dies wirft Fragen nach der Identität des Soziologen auf: Welchen Bezug haben die in der Praxis tätigen Soziologen zu ihrer Herkunftsdisziplin? Wie sehen Hochschullehrer die Zukunft ihrer Studierenden und worauf werden diese im Studium vorbereitet? Was sind die Besonderheiten und Defizite der soziologischen Professionalisierung? Ist das typische Berufsbild eines Soziologen das eines Beraters - und was ist soziologische Beratung? Die Studie leistet auf empirischer Basis einen Beitrag zur Selbstreflexion der Soziologie

    Abstract: »Ökonomisierung« ist in aller Munde. Die systemtheoretische Perspektive auf das vermeintlich vertraute Phänomen stellt eine doppelte Herausforderung dar. Um Ökonomisierungsprozesse rekonstruieren zu können, muss die Systemtheorie ihre Möglichkeiten der Darstellung von System-System-Beziehungen erweitern und Ökonomisierung zu einem Paradoxieproblem werden lassen.Diese Studie liefert Impulse zur Theorieerweiterung im Bereich der Nebencodierung und zeigt an verschiedenen Beispielen, dass Ökonomisierung nicht wirtschaftlich instruiert, sondern funktionssystem-intern selbst ausgebildet wird
