    Abstract: In allen Teilbereichen der Linguistik ist derzeit ein Fokus auf Methoden zu beobachten. Selten wird jedoch eine diese einzelnen Teilbereiche integrierende Perspektive auf Methoden und v.a. auch auf Methodologie eingenommen. Der Band unternimmt vor diesem Hintergrund den Versuch, die aktuellen Diskussionen um die Methodik der Linguistik, die sich aus den unterschiedlichen Methodeninnovationen der letzten Jahrzehnte ergaben, zu bündeln. Entwicklungen wie die verstärkte Software- und Datenorientierung, die methodische Vielfalt in Projektkooperationen oder der Trend zu ethnographischen Ansätzen werden in einer Reihe methodisch sehr unterschiedlicher Studien reflektiert. Sie haben jedoch alle gemein, dass sie auf ihre Weise traditionelle Grenzen linguistischer Methodik überschreiten; mögen diese intra- oder interdisziplinärer Natur sein. Rahmende Beiträge betten diese Studien in einen Diskussionszusammenhang ein, der für eine methodologische Reintegration der linguistischen Teildisziplinen plädiert. Insofern will der Band ein Anstoß sein. Einen ersten Versuch einer solchermaßen integrierenden Diskussion dokumentiert der Band mit Respondenzen auf dieses Plädoyer einerseits und andererseits mit zwölf zusammenführenden Thesen zur aktuellen Lage der linguistischen Methodendiskussion.     Abstract: Wer unsere heutige Medienwirklichkeit verstehen will, kommt nicht umhin, sich mit den Technologien rund um Künstliche Intelligenz (KI) und Algorithmen auseinanderzusetzen. Folgerichtig hat sich in jüngerer Zeit innerhalb der Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften ein Forschungsstrang entwickelt, der diese Technologien - zumeist aus kritisch-interventionistischer Perspektive - ins Zentrum rückt. Die vorliegende Arbeit widmet sich dagegen "postkritisch" und "bottom-up" den gesellschaftlichen Selbstbeobachtungen im Hinblick auf die KI-Technologien im öffentlichen Diskurs und entwickelt für deren Erforschung das Programm einer Medienkulturrhetorik. Dieses Programm bringt Kulturwissenschaft und Rhetorik zusammen, um die Handlungsmöglichkeiten spätmoderner Subjekte im "KI-Zeitalter" zu ergründen, und wird im Rahmen einer empirischen Fallstudie zur massenmedialen Berichterstattung über KI und der Auseinandersetzung mit ebendieser in den sozialen Medien am Beispiel Facebook erprobt. Anspruch dieser Untersuchung ist es, sowohl einen Beitrag zur Weiterentwicklung kulturwissenschaftlicher Methodologie als auch für ein tieferes Verständnis unserer Kulturen zu leisten und dabei zugleich Anknüpfungspunkte für die (didaktische) Praxis zu bieten.

    Abstract: This book contributes to a growing body of work celebrating the visual methods and tools that aid knowledge transfer and welcome new audiences to social science research. Visual research methodological milestones highlight a trajectory towards the adoption of more creative and artistic media.     Abstract: "Literacy and Second Language Learning for the Linguistic Integration of Adult Migrants (LASLLIAM)" is a new reference guide of the Council of Europe. It was developed by a group of experts and the Council of Europe Education Department to support high-quality learning environments for non- and low-literate migrants. Language skills foster, among others, social inclusion, and access to education and employment. Within this context, non-literate or low-literate migrants have specific educational needs, as they must learn a second language while either learning to read and write for the first time or developing basic literacy competences in an alphabet or writing system sometimes different from the one they will have learned initially. When it comes to language or knowledge of society courses, these needs are rarely taken into consideration, and this group of migrants is rarely offered a sufficient number of hours to reach the language level required. This is why LASLLIAM has been conceived: it aims at supporting language educators, curriculum designers and language policymakers in their endeavour to design, implement, evaluate and improve curricula tailored toward the specific needs of the target learners.

    Abstract: "Using the methodology of modality-specific enhanced conversational analysis, this study examines how a TV cooking show imparts a social reality within the genre of mass-media infotainment. The study focuses on the verbal and physical-visual procedures used by the interacting parties to carry out the constitutive conversational activities of "informing," "educating," and "evaluating" in a genre-specific manner"--
    Abstract: "Aus sprachwissenschaftlicher Sicht liegt in der Untersuchung von massenmedialen TV-Formaten,die von Fernsehschaffenden und der Medienwissenschaft als Infotainment bezeichnet werden, eine Forschungslücke vor. Es ist bislang nichts darüber bekannt, wie die Interagierenden in solchen Sendungen situativ mit den massenmedialen Anforderungen von Informationsvermittlung und Entertainment umgehen. Die Untersuchung geht auf der Basis von 40 Stunden Sendematerial einer bekannten deutschen Kochsendung der Frage nach, mittels welcher verbalen sowie körperlich-visuellen Verfahren die Beteiligten die mediale Gattung situativ als Infotainment hervorbringen. Zu diesem Zweck wird rekonstruiert, wie die Interagierenden die für die Sendung konstitutiven Aktivitäten "Informieren", "Belehren" und "Bewerten" durchführen, um den Anforderungen der Gattung im Spannungsfeld von Informationsvermittlung und Entertainment zu begegnen. Die Untersuchung leistet so einen Beitrag zur multimodalen Fundierung einer linguistischen Analyse von konversationellen Aktivitäten und zeigt Perspektiven für eine Weiterentwicklung einer gesprächsanalytisch arbeitenden Medienlinguistik auf"--

    Abstract: "Cybermobbing ist ein spezifischer Typ digitaler Gewalt, der vor allem unter Kindern und Jugendlichen vorkommt und in den Fokus der breiten Öffentlichkeit geraten ist. Die Cybermobbing-Forschung ist geprägt von zahlreichen sozialpsychologischen und medienwissenschaftlichen Studien. Eine linguistische Beschäftigung mit konkretem Sprachmaterial stand jedoch bis heute aus. Im vorliegenden Buch wird anhand vieler authentischer Beispiele erörtert, wie sich Cybermobbing im Netz zeigt, in welchen Formvarianten es als kommunikatives Phänomen in Erscheinung tritt und wie die Spezifik der Online-Kommunikation in der virtuellen Welt Einfluss auf die spezifischen Prozesse dieser verbalen Gewalt nimmt. Umfangreiche Detailanalysen helfen, die Spezifik des Emotionspotenzials dieser Texte besser zu verstehen. Das Buch ist einerseits für die spezifische Medialität digitaler Kommunikation und somit die Medienlinguistik allgemein äusserst relevant, andererseits bildet es einen wichtigen Referenzpunkt für künftige Untersuchungen anderer Formen verbaler Gewalt in der digitalen Kommunikation wie auch in anderen Kommunikationsformen"--

    Abstract: What does it mean to be authentic? How is authenticity indexed in contexts of language expression? Authenticity is considered a driving force of individuals’ behaviour and is evaluated according to cultural contexts and mediated by and expressed in language. This volume examines the meanings of linguistic authenticity and problematises the authentic speaker as reflecting a complex and dynamic deployment of sociolinguistic and pragmatic resources.     Abstract: The concept of authenticity has received some attention in recent academic discourse, yet it has often been left under-defined from a sociolinguistic perspective. This volume presents the contributions of a wide range of scholars who exchanged their views on the topic at a conference in Freiburg, Germany, in November 2011. The authors address three leading questions: What are the local meanings of authenticity embedded in large cultural and social structures? What is the meaning of linguistic authenticity in delocalised and/or deterritorialised settings? How is authenticity indexed in other contexts of language expression (e.g. in writing or in political discourse)? These questions are tackled by recognised experts in the fields of sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, and contact linguistics. While by no means exhaustive, the volume offers a large array of case studies that contribute significantly to our understanding of the meaning of authenticity in language production and perception.

    Abstract: The graphic design of texts has become a linguistic object in its own right. To date, however, it has rarely been considered from a sociolinguistic perspective. The present volume attempts to fill this gap by offering the first comprehensive sociolinguistic theory of visual communication.     Abstract: Sowohl der Begriff als auch die Vorstellung von »Kultur« verändern sich aktuell radikal. Intellektuelle aus allen Disziplinen sind damit befasst, eine Neubestimmung und -positionierung von »Kultur« vorzunehmen. Im Zeitalter von Globalisierung und Migration ist die Vorstellung von einer zugleich an ein Volk, eine Nation und an einen spezifischen Ort gebundenen Kultur im Herder'schen Sinne offenbar obsolet geworden. Man versucht vielmehr, die Fluidität, die Dynamik und die Grenzüberschreitungen zwischen Kulturen zu begreifen. Die Beiträge in diesem Band zeigen, dass das Konzept der Transkulturalität, welches zunehmend sowohl die Interkulturalitäts-Studien als auch die Postcolonial Studies als kulturwissenschaftliches Paradigma ablöst, hierfür einen methodischen Ansatzpunkt bietet.

    Abstract: Volume 4 includes unique records of Orok (Uilta), a Tungusic language (dictionaries, texts, grammatical comments) noted down by Pilsudski directly from native informants at the beginning of the 20th century on Sakhalin. The original source material is identified with the help of - and confronted against - all the existing contemporary dictionaries with the assistance of leading specialists in the field (the Novosibirsk Avrorin group, also called the school of Manchu-Tungusologists). Abundant comparative data are quoted. All necessary introductory information and commentaries of ethnographic, historical, and linguistic nature are provided. Archival photos taken by Pilsudski are juxtaposed with related contemporary photos especially taken for this purpose. In addition, samples of original manuscript pages are reproduced. Bibliographical data and indices are provided in conformity with the previous volumes.

Europäisch erweitert wird die Perspektive durch Beiträge italienischer, portugiesischer, österreichischer und schweizerischer Autorinnen und Autoren. Zudem bildet der geographisch-kulturelle Raum Deutschlands und Frankreichs den Gegenstand der mehr als dreißig Einzeluntersuchungen. Die Antike als Wiege der abendländischen Kultur bildet jeweils den Ausgangspunkt der drei Bereiche Geschichte, Literatur und Kunstgeschichte – ihre Rezeption besitzt in diesem Band einen wichtigen Stellenwert. Den gemeinsamen fränkischen Wurzeln Mitteleuropas tragen die Aufsätze zum kulturellen Gedächtnis im Mittelalter Rechnung; im Blick der Forschung stehen aber auch konkrete Aspekte der aus dem Karolingerreich entstandenen Einzelnationen.     Abstract: Kunst und Kultur finden im Kulturbetrieb statt. In diesem institutionellen Rahmen sind Künstler, Interpreten und Kulturmanager tätig, um Kunst zu produzieren und an ein Publikum zu vermitteln. Dabei spielen spartenspezifische Traditionen und künstlerische Ziele ebenso eine Rolle wie politische, ökonomische und rechtliche Bedingungen, die von außen an den Kulturbetrieb herangetragen werden. In einem oft nur schwer durchschaubaren Geflecht von Zielen, Interessen und Bedingungen fallen im Kulturbetrieb Entscheidungen zur Kunst - und dies nicht selten ohne Rücksicht auf den künstlerischen Gehalt. Das Buch verfolgt das Ziel, diese Zusammenhänge sowohl spartenübergreifend als auch spartenspezifisch zu verdeutlichen. Neben der Frage, warum bestimmte Traditionen den Kulturbetrieb bis heute prägen, ist von besonderem Interesse, durch welche Veränderung der Rahmenbedingungen andere Ziele verfolgt und erreicht werden können. Daraus ergeben sich interessante Perspektiven für die Zukunftsfähigkeit der Künste im Kulturbetrieb.

    Abstract: Biographical note: Cordula Neis ist Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der Universität Potsdam im DFG-Projekt "Onomasiologisches Lexikon sprachtheoretischer Grundbegriffe des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts".
    Abstract: Untersuchungsgegenstand des vorliegenden Bandes ist die für das Jahr 1771 von der Berliner Akademie der Wissenschaften gestellte Preisfrage, ob Menschen, wenn sie nur ihren natürlichen Fähigkeiten überlassen sind, Sprache erfinden können. Die berühmte Preisfrage ist Philologen und Historikern wohlbekannt, doch reduziert sich ihre Bekanntheit zumeist auf die schließlich ausgezeichnete Abhandlung Johann Gottfried Herders. Die nie veröffentlichten französischen, deutschen und lateinischen Abhandlungen der 30 Mitbewerber hingegen, von denen 24 im Archiv der Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften aufbewahrt werden, sind weithin unbekannt. Sie werden hier zum ersten Mal erschlossen und im Zusammenhang sprachtheoretischer und anthropologischer Diskurse der europäischen Aufklärung (u. a. Rousseau, Condillac, Locke, Buffon) analysiert. Ein wichtiges Anliegen der Arbeit besteht u. a. darin, die ausschließliche Perspektive der Forschung auf Herders Abhandlung zu relativieren und seine Leistung im Kontext der konkurrierenden Einsendungen neu zu bewerten. Die Autorin hat dazu ca. 1000 unedierte Handschriftenseiten ausgewertet, von denen einige hier exemplarisch abgedruckt sind.
