    Abstract: The digitalization of work processes and the generalization of IT are creating unprecedented opportunities. An increasing part of the workforce is experimenting with new forms of work, as freelancers, self-employed or highly skilled employees with greater autonomy. International in scope, this book comprehensively explores these new models of work, mobility and life trajectories, and the increasing role of non-metropolitan coworking spaces. This interdisciplinary book investigates new trends in relationships between work, life plans, work-life balance, and mobility in the context of ongoing societal digitalization. An expert group of contributors adopts a comparative approach in assessing the coworking phenomenon. They examine the social embeddedness of collaborative workspaces and consider topics such as social exchange, cooperation and collaboration, critically assessing the question of individual and collective mobilities, and exploring the historical roots of coworking and its developing meanings and uses in practice. In twenty-six "master class" chapters, philosophy meets anthropological critique as leading anthropologists introduce the thinking of one foundational philosopher - from a variety of Western traditions and beyond - and apply this critically to an ethnographic case. Nils Bubandt, Thomas Schwarz Wentzer and the contributors to this volume reveal how the encounter between philosophy and fieldwork is fertile ground for analytical insight to emerge.     Abstract: Die Um- und Nachnutzung von Konversionsflächen als vom Militär aufgegebene Areale sind eine zentrale Aufgabe der Raumentwicklung, insbesondere im Osten Deutschlands. Seit der Wende ist ein Großteil dieser Flächen in eine Nachnutzung überführt und veräußert worden; in der öffentlichen Wahrnehmung hat sich der Eindruck verfestigt, dass das Thema Konversion so gut wie abgeschlossen sei. Dass Konversion von ehemaligen militärischen Liegenschaften jedoch ein immens schwieriger, zeitintensiver und problematischer Prozess ist, verdeutlichen die Autorinnen und Autoren des vorliegenden Arbeitsberichtes. Vielmehr handelt es sich bei der Konversion dieser Flächen um sogenannte "Jahrhundertaufgaben", die eine generationenübergreifende Auseinandersetzung mit Zielen, Prämissen und auch Grenzen der Raumentwicklung erfordern. Die Autorinnen und Autoren nähern sich dem Problem der Jahrhundertaufgaben, indem sie anhand von konkreten Beispielen und erfolgreichen Prozessen Lösungsansätze erarbeiten, auch im Zusammenhang mit der Energiewende. Neben aktuellen Konversionsstrategien werden Aspekte der Inwertsetzung, der Flächenkreislaufwirtschaft und der Nachnutzungsoptionen ebenso thematisiert wie rechtliche und Governance-Fragen, denn: Konversion ist eine Querschnittsaufgabe. Die Beiträge basieren auf umfassenden praktischen Erfahrungen sowie konzeptionellen Überlegungen der Autorinnen und Autoren.
    Abstract: The Conversion and revitalization of areas that have been abandoned by the army is one of the main challenges of spatial development. This is particularly relevant for eastern Germany. Since reunification, many of these areas have been transferred to a reuse and has been sold. In the general public's view, the impression has become entrenched that the issue of conversion is almost at an end. However, the authors of this report emphasize that the conversion of former military sites is an immensely difficult, time-intensive, and highly problematic process. These areas are ultimately so-called "tasks of the century" ("Jahrhundertaufgaben") that require a generation-spanning debate about the goals, assumptions and limits of spatial development. The authors address the problem of the tasks of the century by developing solutions based on concrete examples and successful processes, also in connection with the energy transition. In addition to current conversion strategies, aspects of valorisation, circular land management and after-use options will be addressed, as well as legal and governance issues, because: Conversion is a cross-sectional task. The contributions are based on extensive practical experience and on conceptual reflections of the authors.

    Abstract: More-than-human geographies haben sich im angelsächsischen Raum als wichtiges Forschungsfeld etabliert und in den letzten Jahren auch in der deutschsprachigen Geographie zunehmend an Bedeutung gewonnen. Die Dezentrierung des Menschen wird durch verschiedene Ansätze wie die Phänomenologie, den Pragmatismus, die Akteur-Netzwerk-Theorie, Assemblage-, Affekt- und Mehr-als-repräsentationale Theorien sowie durch praxistheoretische, performative und viszerale Ansätze konzeptionell vorangetrieben. Trotz dieser großen Heterogenität eint die Mehr-als-menschlichen Geographien, dass sie den Menschen als Teil eines größeren Gesamtzusammenhangs begreifen, sich der Welt aus mehr als nur streng rational greifbaren Erfahrungs- und Sinndimensionen nähern und insofern leibliche, affektive, emotionale und sensorische Praktiken, Transaktionen und Intra-Aktionen in den Blick nehmen. Die Autorinnen und Autoren führen in die Entwicklungslinien, Grundzüge und Schlüsselkonzepte der komplexen Debatte ein und tragen so dazu bei, sie systematisch für die deutschsprachige Geographie und interessierte Nachbardisziplinen zu erschließen.

    Abstract: Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ist geprägt von ländlichen Räumen.     Abstract: This book assembles essays by thinkers who were at the center of the German post World War II development of ethical thought in medicine. It records their strategies for overcoming initial resistance among physicians and philosophers and (in the East) politicians. This work traces their different approaches, such as socialist versus liberal bioethics; illustrates their attempt to introduce a culture of dialogue in medicine; and examines their moral ambiguities inherent to the institutionalization of bioethics and in law. Furthermore, the essays in this work pay special attention to the problem of ethics expertise in the context of a pluralism, which the intellectual mainstream of the country seeks to reduce to “varieties of post-traditionalism". Finally, this book addresses the problem of “patient autonomy”,and highlights the difficulty of harmonizing commitment to professional integrity with the project of enhancing physician’s responsiveness to suffering patients. As these essays illustrate, the development of bioethics in Germany does not follow a linear line of progressiveness, but rather retains a sense of the traditional ethos of the guild. An ethos, however, that is challenged by moral pluralism in such a way that, even today, still requires adequate solutions. A must read for all academics interested in the origins and the development of bioethics. .

    Abstract: Im wirtschaftlichen Strukturwandel hat sich eine wissensintensive Ökonomie durchgesetzt, die sich durch eine ausgeprägte Wissensvernetzung auszeichnet. Diese ermöglicht eine Optimierung von Kooperationsformen, ohne die Innovationsprozesse kaum noch denkbar sind. Ein wissensökonomisch fundierter Strategieansatz, der auf die Förderung von Wissensvernetzungen abstellt, setzt allerdings substanzielle Kenntnisse der Kooperationsverflechtungen voraus. Dazu bedarf es empirisch fundierter Netzwerkanalysen. Gerade die regionale Ebene ist als Plattform für diesen Austausch von Information und Wissen von zentraler Bedeutung. Als Beispiel wird daher die regionale Wissensvernetzung der Metropolregion Hannover Braunschweig Göttingen Wolfsburg untersucht.
    Abstract: In the course of economic structural change, a knowledge-intensive economy has prevailed, which is characterized by pronounced knowledge networking. This enables the optimization of forms of cooperation which are indispensable for innovation processes. A knowledge-based strategy approach that focuses on the promotion of knowledge networks, however, requires a substantial knowledge of cooperation interrelations. This requires empirically based network analyses. The regional level is of central importance as a platform for this exchange of information and knowledge. The regional knowledge network of the Hanover-Brunswick-Göttingen-Wolfsburg metropolitan region is therefore examined as an example.

    Abstract: Hinter Migrationsprozessen wird sehr viel schneller als hinter anderen historischen Vorgängen das Schicksal des Einzelnen greifbar. Für dessen und gegebenenfalls auch seines Herkunftslandes Interessen wird nicht selten Partei ergriffen, obwohl Forschung dem Anspruch nach werturteilsfrei sein sollte. Nicht zuletzt in Folge der „Flüchtlingskrise" von 2015 hat sich demgegenüber ein spürbares Bedürfnis nach wirtschaftswissenschaftlich und wirtschaftshistorisch fundiertem Orientierungswissen entwickelt, das die historische Migrationsforschung bisher nicht zu befriedigen vermochte. Anliegen des vorliegenden ersten Bandes wie auch der Schriftenreihe insgesamt ist es deshalb, entsprechende Forschungslücken durch das Beschreiten innovativer, auch Diskussion provozierender Wege zu überwinden. In present and past migration processes the fate of the individual becomes tangible much faster than in many other historical processes. Hence, it is not uncommon that people take sides with the migrant and possibly also of his or her country of origin, even though the academia should refrain from biased judgements. Not least as a result of the "refugee crisis" of 2015, a noticeable need for orientation knowledge based on economics and economic history has developed, which historical migration research has not been able to satisfy so far. The aim of this first volume, as well as of the series as a whole, is therefore to overcome the corresponding gaps in research by taking innovative and provocative paths in order to stimulate discussion.

    Abstract: "Through staging dialogues between scholars, activists and artists from a variety of disciplinary, geographical and historical specializations, Postcolonial and Postsocialist Dialogues explores the possible resonances and dissonances between the postcolonial and the postsocialist in feminist theorizing and practice. While postcolonial and postsocialist perspectives have been explored in feminist studies, the two analytics tend to be viewed separately. This volume brings together attempts to understand if and how postcolonial and postsocialist dimensions of the human condition - historical, existential, political, and ideological - intersect and correlate in feminist experiences, identities, and struggles. In the three sections that probe the intersections, opacities and challenges between the two discourses, the authors put under pressure what postcolonialism and postsocialism mean for feminist scholarship and activism. The contributions address the emergence of new political and cultural formations as well as circuits of bodies and capital in post-Cold War and postcolonial era in currently re-emerging neo-colonial and imperial conflicts. They engage with issues of gender, sexuality, race, migration, diasporas, indigeneity, and disability, while also developing new analytical tools such as postsocialist precarity, queer postsocialist coloniality, uneventful feminism, feminist opacity, feminist queer crip epistemologies.     Abstract: Wen oder was schützen die Menschenrechte? Wie weit reicht die Pflicht zur Nothilfe? Wie passen universalistische Prinzipien und kulturelle Diversität zusammen?     Abstract: Das Handbuch bietet einen Überblick über Ansätze, Methoden und Themenfelder einer historischen Technikanthropologie. Dies umfasst sowohl Grundbegriffe, die Vielfalt technisierter Menschenbilder, technisierte Praktiken sowie die Technisierung von Sinnen und Kompetenzen. Vorgestellt werden zudem wichtige Vertreter einer Technikanthropologie seit der Frühen Neuzeit. Mit einer interdisziplinären Herangehensweise arbeitet das Handbuch verschiedene Problematisierungen von Menschen und Maschinen, die gerade heute virulent sind, historisch und systematisch auf. Dabei steht die klassische anthropologische Frage nach dem "Menschen" in den jeweiligen Ausprägungen und Wandlungen mit Blick auf Technik im Zentrum. Diese Betrachtung geht nicht von einem einzigartigen, unveränderlichen Wesen des Menschen aus, sondern untersucht die historischen Veränderungen des Menschen durch und mit Technik. Gerade im Zeichen neuer Technologien wie der Digitalisierung und Künstlicher Intelligenz-Forschung steht das Mensch-Maschinen-Verhältnis erneut auf der Agenda.     Abstract: This handbook provides an overview of approaches to, and methods and topics on a historical anthropology of technology. This includes basic concepts, the variety of human technical concepts, technicised practices and the technicisation of senses and skills. Furthermore, it presents important representatives of an anthropology of technology since the early modern period. With its interdisciplinary approach, this volume historically and systematically approaches various problems relating to humans and machines that are currently being debated. At the centre of attention is the quintessential anthropological question of what a ‘human being’ is with respect to technology. However, this consideration does not derive from the concept of a unique, unchanging essence of man, but examines the historical changes of man through and with technology. Particularly in light of new technologies such as digitisation and artificial intelligence research, the relationship between humans and machines is once again on the agenda, in which humans and humanity seem to be the subject of discussion

    Abstract: Multilokale Lebensführung - das Wohnen und Leben an mehreren Orten - ist ein aktuelles gesellschaftliches und räumliches Phänomen. Multilokalität ist nicht grundsätzlich neu, wandelt sich aber mit den gesellschaftlichen Lebensbedingungen und -verhältnissen. Dabei geht es um sich verändernde räumliche Mobilität, die sich in einem Spannungsfeld zwischen Bewegung und Verankerung einordnen lässt und in zahlreichen Ausprägungen vorzufinden ist. Das Spektrum umfasst beispielsweise arbeitsbedingt Wochenendpendelnde, Paare in Doppelhaushalten ("Living Apart Together"), "Expatriates", transnationale Pflegekräfte, Menschen mit Ferienunterkünften oder pendelnde Kinder in Nachtrennungsfamilien. Dabei stellen sich einzelne Formen hybrid und nicht trennscharf dar. In diesem Forschungsbericht wird Multilokalität in 45 Einzelbeiträgen aus verschiedenen Perspektiven wissenschaftlich neu gefasst, beleuchtet und analysiert. Der Bericht enthält theoretische Konzeptionen, die von methodologischen Fragen bis hin zu möglichen Typologisierungen reichen. Zudem werden wichtige Schlüsselbegriffe der Multilokalitätsforschung pointiert erläutert. In empirischen Studien der jüngeren Multilokalitätsforschung werden exemplarisch konkrete gesellschaftliche und räumliche Ausprägungen und Implikationen multilokaler Lebensführung analysiert.
    Abstract: Multilocality - residing and living in multiple places - is a current social and spatial phenomenon. It is not fundamentally new, but changes with societal living conditions and situations. It is about changing spatial mobilities that can be classified in a field of tension between mobility and anchoring and can be found in various forms. The spectrum includes, for example, weekend commuters for work-related reasons, couples in double households (Living Apart Together), expatriates, transnational carers, people with holiday homes or commuting children in post-separation families. Individual forms of multilocality are not clearly distinct but appear to be hybrid. In this ARL Research Report, multilocality is scientifically redefined, explored and analysed from different perspectives in 45 individual contributions. The report comprises theoretical concepts ranging from methodological questions to possible typologies. In addition, important key terms of multilocality research are presented. In empirical studies of recent multilocality research, specific societal and spatial characteristics and implications of multilocal everyday life are analysed.

    Abstract: Die Covid-19-Pandemie hat zu radikalen Eingriffen in die Gesundheitsversorgung und das soziale Leben geführt, deren Effizienz und Angemessenheit aktuell immer stärker ins Zentrum von Auseinandersetzungen rückt. In diesem Sammelband reflektieren und kommentieren ausgewiesene Wissenschaftler/innen und Fachleute verschiedenster Disziplinen den Umgang mit der Pandemie. Thematisiert werden u.a. die Stellungnahmen nationaler Ethikkommissionen, die Triage-Problematik, die Vertretbarkeit von Eingriffen in Grundfreiheiten, die soziale Isolation Betroffener, der Umgang mit religiösen und spirituellen Bedürfnissen sowie tiefer liegende soziale Veränderungen in der Krise. Es wird damit ein wichtiger Beitrag zur Aufarbeitung der Corona-Krise geleistet.     Abstract: The Covid-19 pandemic has led to radical interventions in healthcare and social life, the efficiency and appropriateness of which are now increasingly at the centre of controversy. In this volume, renowned scientists, academics and experts from a wide range of disciplines reflect and comment on how to deal with the pandemic. Among other things, the following topics are discussed: the statements of national ethics committees, the issue of triage, the acceptability of interventions in fundamental freedoms, the social isolation of those affected, the handling of religious and spiritual needs as well as deeper social changes during the crisis.
