Im Mittelpunkt steht die Frage, ob das Publikum dem automatisierten Journalismus vertraut und welche Einflussfaktoren bei dieser Entscheidung eine Rolle spielen. Zur empirischen Überprüfung wurden Focus Groups mit gezielt rekrutierten Leser*innen eingesetzt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass es keine monokausalen Antworten auf die Frage nach dem Vertrauen der Lesenden in automatisierten Journalismus gibt. Grundsätzlich stehen sie dem Technologieeinsatz neutral und gleichzeitig neugierig sowie – vor allem mit Blick auf die Zukunft – skeptisch gegenüber. Die Teilnehmenden fordern einen transparenten Umgang der Medienorganisationen mit automatisierter Berichterstattung und wollen mehr Informationen zum Einsatz, zur Verbreitung und zur Technologie haben. Als Einflussfaktoren auf die Vertrauensbewertung wurden ausgewählte Personen- sowie Text- und Publikationsmerkmale und Eigenschaften des Untersuchungsgegenstands getestet. Sein Fazit: Deutschland befindet sich heute auf dem Weg zum "kontingenten Patchworkstaat".

    Kurzfassung: Diese Open-Access-Publikation untersucht die Akzeptanz der sächsischen Bevölkerung gegenüber Energie- und Rohstoffvorhaben sowie die Eignung von Kommunikationsmaßnahmen zur Verbesserung des Akzeptanzniveaus. Die Bürger:innen werden erstmals repräsentativ zu ihrer (In-)Akzeptanz gegenüber Anlagearten befragt. Dabei wird nachgewiesen, dass die Akzeptanz bei lokalen Projekten immer geringer ist als soziopolitisch. Bei den erneuerbaren Energieumwandlungsanlagen ist die Akzeptanz gegenüber Wasserkraft- und Solaranlagen am höchsten, gegenüber Biomasseanlagen am geringsten. Fossile Energieumwandlungsanlagen sind weniger akzeptiert und Tage- und Untertagebaue werden am schlechtesten bewertet. Eine vergleichende Befragung der Unternehmensvertreter:innen des Energie- und Rohstoffsektors ergibt eine Dissonanz der von ihnen angenommenen zur erfassten (In-)Akzeptanz der Bevölkerung: Das Akzeptanzniveau ist unabhängig von der Art des Vorhabens geringer, als es die Unternehmensvertreter:innen annehmen. Die Erkenntnisse werden genutzt, um eine Webapplikation zu entwickeln, die es insbesondere kleinen und mittleren Unternehmen ermöglicht, zur Akzeptanzsteigerung geeignete Kommunikationsmaßnahmen auszuwählen

    Kurzfassung: Seit dem Mord an George Floyd durch den Polizeieingriff in den Vereinigten Staaten im Mai 2020 und der daraus erwachsenen (Social Media-)Bewegung #blacklivesmatter hat auch die Beschäftigung mit den verschiedenen Formen von Rassismus in Deutschland zugenommen. Konnte der Begriff vor wenigen Jahren in wissenschaftlichen wie öffentlichen Diskursen weitgehend nur schwierig oder selten genutzt werden, hat er sich inzwischen hierzulande auch als Gegenbegriff zur globalen Wirkmächtigkeit rechter Ideologien, die besonders Identitätskategorien zur Legitimation mörderischer Gewalt heranziehen, sowie im Kontext globaler Diversifizierungsmaßnahmen im Diskursmainstream durchgesetzt. Dieser Erfolg des Begriffs lässt auch die filmischen Produktionen zu Themen von Menschenfeindlichkeit, die auf Repräsentationskategorien basieren, in einem neuen Licht erscheinen. Filme zu Themen des Rassismus versuchen, Aufklärungsarbeit im Sinne anti-rassistischer Praxis zu leisten, während beispielsweise propagandistische Videos rechter und dschihadistischer Kreise zur (re-)produktiven Verhandlung von Rassismus beitragen. Andererseits lassen sich Filme, die scheinbar nichts mit Rassismus zu tun haben, bei einem genaueren analytischen Blick sehr wohl als Verstärkungs-, Reproduktions- oder Verschleierungsakteure von Rassismen verstehen. So sind Filme immer schon im Sinne von (Un-)Sichtbarkeitsmaschinen dazu geeignet, soziale Verhältnisse zu veräußerlichen und so ungedachte Zusammenhänge zu denken. In dieser argumentativen Bi-Perspektivität – Sichtbarwerden der Rassismusdiskurse und Filme als Sichtbarkeitsmedien sozialer Verhältnisse – geht der vorliegende Sammelband Diskursformen des Rassismus, seiner Filmkulturen und Möglichkeiten des (anti-rassistischen) Widerstands besonders/aber nicht nur im deutschsprachigen Kontext nach. Daran schließen sich folgende Fragen an: Wie sieht der Zusammenhang von (fiktionalen) Filmen und Formen des Rassismus in Film-kulturen aus? Wie gehen fiktionale Formate mit Antisemitismus, Rechtsradikalismus, antimuslimischem Rassismus, Antiziganismus und whiteness um? Und wie versuchen aktuelle (auch experimentelle) filmische Formate, Rassismus entgegenzutreten? Im Zentrum des Sammelbandes stehen die Filme und ihre Geschichten selbst. Ziel ist es, das Erkenntnispotential von Filmen in der Auseinandersetzung mit Rassismus zu befragen: Was genau am Rassismus machen die Filme sichtbar? Wie lassen sich mögliche historische Entwicklungen narrativer audiovisueller Diskursformen (für den deutschsprachigen Kontext) darstellen? Wie verändern sich in diesen Entwicklungen die Auseinandersetzungen mit jenen rassistischen Formen? Und grundsätzlich: Wie stehen Film und Rassismus zueinander?     Kurzfassung: Songs like Chico Fininho, by Rui Veloso and the Banda Sonora, and Cavalos de Corrida, by the group UHF, were the first hits of the "Portuguese rock boom", an expression referring to the first moment of great commercial success for rock repertoire recorded and published in Portugal. At the beginning of the 1980s, "Portuguese rock" was central to the consolidation of a "modern" and cosmopolitan youth identity that increasingly identified with habits and lifestyles from the Anglo-American cultural universe. The intensification of the editorial commitment to this repertoire led to the emergence of new groups, record producers, sound companies and artist agencies, as well as the reconfiguration of the characteristics of various bands that sought to align themselves with the phenomenon, including the growing use of the Portuguese language, an aspect that until then had often been disregarded in the context of rock music. This book analyses the main changes that took place in rock practices in Portugal during the second half of the 1970s and early 1980s, looking at the links between the various music industries and the role of their agents as active participants in shaping the activity of the groups and their respective repertoires
    Kurzfassung: Canções como Chico Fininho, de Rui Veloso e a Banda Sonora, e Cavalos de Corrida, do grupo UHF, constituíram os primeiros êxitos do «boom do rock português», expressão referente ao primeiro momento de grande sucesso comercial de repertório rock gravado e publicado em Portugal. No início da década de 1980, o «rock português» foi fulcral na consolidação de uma identidade juvenil «moderna» e cosmopolita crescentemente identificada com hábitos e estilos de vida provindos do universo cultural anglo-americano. A intensificação da aposta editorial neste repertório motivou o aparecimento de novos grupos, produtores fonográficos, empresas de som e de agenciamento de artistas, assim como a reconfiguração das características de várias bandas que procuraram alinhar-se com o fenómeno, inclusive no crescente recurso à língua portuguesa, aspecto até então frequentemente desprezado no âmbito do rock. Neste livro, são analisadas as principais transformações ocorridas nas práticas do rock em Portugal durante a segunda metade da década de 1970 e inícios da década de 1980, contemplando a articulação entre as várias indústrias ligadas à música e o papel dos seus agentes enquanto participantes activos na configuração da actividade dos grupos e dos seus respectivos repertórios

    Kurzfassung: This open access book is one of the first academic works to comprehensively analyse the dilemma concerning global content governance on social media. To date, no single human rights standard exists across all social media platforms, allowing private companies to set their own rules, values and parameters. On the one hand, this normative autonomy raises serious concerns, primarily around whether companies should be permitted to establish the rules governing free speech online. On the other hand, if social media platforms simply adopted international law standards, they would be compelled to operate a choice on which model to follow, and put in place mechanisms to uphold these general standards. This book examines this topic from a multidisciplinary perspective, drawing from the expertise of the authors in law, political science and communication studies. It provides a carefully reconstructed theory of the content governance dilemma, as well as pragmatic solutions for companies and policymakers.     Kurzfassung: Inwieweit das Programmangebot der Volkshochschulen die Medienkompetenz und digitale Teilhabe der Teilnehmenden fördert, untersucht Jan Hellriegel in seiner Dissertation. Die Arbeit basiert auf einer Fallstudie mit vier Volkshochschulen in Rheinland-Pfalz. Kernstück ist eine Programmanalyse unter dem Aspekt der Medienkompetenzförderung. Zudem wurden anhand von Interviews mit VHS-Leitungen und hauptamtlich pädagogischen Mitarbeitenden Faktoren ermittelt, die die Programmplanung beeinflussen. In den Ergebnissen wird deutlich, dass dem Auftrag, die Medienkompetenz der Teilnehmenden zu fördern in den VHS-Programmen nicht angemessen Rechnung getragen werden kann. Bezüge finden sich vorrangig im Kontext beruflicher Mediennutzung, während eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit Medien und digitaler Transformation nur selten Platz im Programm findet. Hier Schwerpunkte zu setzen, ist ein bislang nicht erfüllter, aber notwendiger Bildungsauftrag der VHS zur digitalen Teilhabe für alle in einer demokratisch verfassten Gesellschaft. Gründe für diese Defizite sieht Hellriegel unter anderem in der Abhängigkeit der Volkshochschulen von Teilnahmegebühren. Sie bedienen bestehende Nachfragen und planen zu wenig Angebote, um neue Bedarfe zu wecken

It does so by analysing why media and information literacy (MIL) is proposed as a solution for addressing the current information crisis. Questioning why MIL is commonly believed to wield such power, the book throws into sharp relief several paradoxes that are built into common understandings of such literacies. Haider and Sundin take the reader on a journey across different fields of practice, research and policymaking, including librarianship, information studies, teaching and journalism, media and communication and the educational sciences. The authors also consider national information policy proposals and the recommendations of NGOs or international bodies, such as UNESCO and the OECD.     Kurzfassung: Questions of authorship are central to the late thirteenth-century motet repertoire represented by the seventh section or fascicle of the Montpellier Codex (Montpellier, Bibliothèque interuniversitaire, Section de médecine, H. 196, hereafter Mo). Mo does not explicitly attribute any of its compositions, but theoretical sources name Petrus de Cruce as the composer of the two motets that open fascicle 7, and three later motets in this fascicle are elsewhere ascribed to Adam de la Halle. This monograph reveals a musical and textual quotation of Adam’s Aucun se sont loe incipit at the outset of Petrus’s Aucun ont trouve triplum, and it explores various invocations of Adam and Petrus – their works and techniques – within further anonymous compositions. Authorship is additionally considered from the perspective of two new types of motets especially prevalent in fascicle 7: motets that name musicians, as well as those based on vernacular song or instrumental melodies, some of which are identified by the names of their creators. This book offers new insights into the musical, poetic, and curatorial reception of thirteenth-century composers’ works in their own time. It uncovers, beneath the surface of an anonymous motet book, unsuspected interactions between authors and traces of compositional identities

Group-Talk ist die Feldbezeichnung für das wöchentliche Arbeitstreffen einer teilnehmend beobachteten Forschungsgruppe in der Computational Neuroscience (CNS). Dass (soziale) Wirklichkeit in Interaktionsprozessen erzeugt und institutionalisiert wird, ist eine aus der Wissenssoziologie bzw. dem Sozialkonstruktivismus bereits wohlbekannte Erkenntnis. Dass diese Erzeugung maßgeblich durch kommunikatives Handeln prozessiert wird, ist spätestens seit dem Kommunikativen Konstruktivismus bekannt. Zentral in vorliegender Analyse ist daher die spezifische Form des kommunikativen Handelns, das besondere Format, in dem die CNS, als relativ junger und interdisziplinärer Forschungskontext, von den disziplinär heterogenen Wissenschaftler/-innen im Feld, kommunikativ (re-)konstruiert wird. Die wissenssoziologische Gattungsanalyse dient dabei dazu, den reinen Situationalismus zu überschreiten und die soziologische Mikroanalyse (Handeln), vor dem Hintergrund einer fokussiert-ethnographischen Feldstudie, mit gesellschaftlichen Emergenzphänomenen auf Meso- und Makroebene zu verknüpfen. Erst diese systematische Verbindung des direkt beobachtbaren Wie der Kommunikation mit dem durch ethnographisches Wissen rekonstruierten Warum, überschreitet den Horizont reiner Beschreibung und führt in die Bereiche des soziologischen Verstehens und Erklärens

    Kurzfassung: Social network sites are dynamic online socio-cultural arenas which give users ample and unprecedented opportunities for self-presentation through the meshing of language with other semiotic modes. With a focus on Facebook, one of the most widely-used online social network sites, this open access book brings together ideas and concepts related to language online, multimodality, and identity through five topical issues. These include place, time, profession and education, stance-taking, and privacy. The book features a discourse-centred online ethnography that provides authentic verbal and multimodal Facebook posts in both Greek and English . These are complemented with insights from interviews with Facebook participants. The examples bring to life various engaging instances of self- and other-presentation on Facebook identifying the ways in which users can: - locate themselves in terms of place and time; - announce activities, share and broaden their expertise and buttress solidarity among colleagues and fellow students; - communicate emotions, tastes, thoughts, opinions and assessments; - control the flow of textual information on their Facebook profiles to secure their privacy. Focusing on discourse manifestations of identity, this book also shows how Facebook can function as a space for vernacular literacy practices, a silo of relationships, a digital memory bank, a research tool, a knowledge forum, a cardiograph of a society, and a grassroots channel.     Kurzfassung: During the Russian Revolution and Civil War, amateur theater groups sprang up in cities across the country. Workers, peasants, students, soldiers, and sailors provided entertainment ranging from improvisations to gymnastics and from propaganda sketches to the plays of Chekhov. In Revolutionary Acts, Lynn Mally reconstructs the history of the amateur stage in Soviet Russia from 1917 to the height of the Stalinist purges. Her book illustrates in fascinating detail how Soviet culture was transformed during the new regime's first two decades in power. Of all the arts, theater had a special appeal for mass audiences in Russia, and with the coming of the revolution it took on an important role in the dissemination of the new socialist culture. Mally's analysis of amateur theater as a space where performers, their audiences, and the political authorities came into contact enables her to explore whether this culture emerged spontaneously "from below" or was imposed by the revolutionary elite. She shows that by the late 1920s, Soviet leaders had come to distrust the initiatives of the lower classes, and the amateur theaters fell increasingly under the guidance of artistic professionals. Within a few years, state agencies intervened to homogenize repertoire and performance style, and with the institutionalization of Socialist Realist principles, only those works in a unified Soviet canon were presented

Cultural Science introduces a new way of thinking about culture. Adopting an evolutionary and systems approach, the authors argue that culture is the population-wide source of newness and innovation; it faces the future, not the past. Its chief characteristic is the formation of groups or 'demes' (organised and productive subpopulation; 'demos'). Demes are the means for creating, distributing and growing knowledge. However, such groups are competitive and knowledge-systems are adversarial. Starting from a rereading of Darwinian evolutionary theory, the book utilises multidisciplinary resources: Raymond Williams's 'culture is ordinary' approach; evolutionary science (e.g. Mark Pagel and Herbert Gintis); semiotics (Yuri Lotman); and economic theory (from Schumpeter to McCloskey). Successive chapters argue that: -Culture and knowledge need to be understood from an externalist ('linked brains') perspective, rather than through the lens of individual behaviour; -Demes are created by culture, especially storytelling, which in turn constitutes both politics and economics; -The clash of systems - including demes - is productive of newness, meaningfulness and successful reproduction of culture; -Contemporary urban culture and citizenship can best be explained by investigating how culture is used, and how newness and innovation emerge from unstable and contested boundaries between different meaning systems; -The evolution of culture is a process of technologically enabled 'demic concentration' of knowledge, across overlapping meaning-systems or semiospheres; a process where the number of demes accessible to any individual has increased at an accelerating rate, resulting in new problems of scale and coordination for cultural science to address. The book argues for interdisciplinary 'consilience', linking evolutionary and complexity theory in the natural sciences, economics and anthropology in the social sciences, and cultural, communication and media studies in the humanities and creative arts. It describes what is needed for a new 'modern synthesis' for the cultural sciences. It combines analytical and historical methods, to provide a framework for a general reconceptualisation of the theory of culture - one that is focused not on its political or customary aspects but rather its evolutionary significance as a generator of newness and innovation

Just Transitions provides an overview of these challenges from a Global South perspective. How do they address widening inequalities, as well as the need to rebuild ecosystem services and natural resources? It synthesises a range of different literatures to illuminate new ways of thinking from a sustainability perspective. It rethinks development with special reference to the greening of the developmental state, explores the key role that cities could play in the transition to a more sustainably urbanised world, highlights the neglect of soils and examines the potential of sustainable agriculture to feed the world. Case studies drawn from Africa detail the challenges, but they are set in the context of global trends. Historically, alternative media have been viewed as fundamental, albeit at times culturally peripheral, forces in social change. In this book, however, Kenix argues that these media do not uniformly subvert the hierarchies of access that are so central to mainstream media - in fact, their journalistic norms and routines have always been based on the professional standards of the mainstream. Kenix goes on to posit the perception of 'mainstream' and 'alternative' as a misconception. She argues that, although alternative media can - and do - construct distinct alternative communications, they have always existed on the same continuum as the mainstream and the two will continue to converge. Through comparative analysis, this book argues that many alternative and mainstream media are merging to create a continuous spectrum rooted in commercial ideology. Indeed, much of what is now considered alternative media actually draws very little from principles of the independent press, whereas many contemporary mainstream media now use communication techniques more commonly associated with media that do not operate for financial gain. This book puts forward a controversial but convincing argument around the relationship between alternative and mainstream media, drawing on examples from the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand to strengthen and develop the central premise

The Browne report advocates, in effect, the privatisation of higher education in England. With the proposed removal of the current cap on student fees and the removal of state funding from most undergraduate degree programmes, universities are set for a period of major reorganisation not seen since the higher education reforms in the 1960s. This book brings together some of the leading figures in Higher Education in the UK to set out what they see as the role of the university in public life. The book argues for a more balanced understanding of the value of universities than that outlined in the Browne Report.     Kurzfassung: Carol Haviland, Joan Mullin, and their collaborators report on a three-year interdisciplinary interview project on the subject of plagiarism, authorship, and ""property,"" and how these are conceived across different fields. The study investigated seven different academic fields to discover disciplinary conceptions of what types of scholarly production count as ""owned."" Less a research report than a conversation, the book offers a wide range of ideas, and the chapters here will provoke discussion on scholarly practice relating to intellectual property, plagiarism, and authorship---and to how these matters are conveyed to students. Although these authors find a good deal of consensus in regard to the ethical issues of plagiarism, they document a surprising variety of practice on the subject of what ownership looks like from one discipline to another. And they discover that students are not often instructed in the conventions of their major field

    Kurzfassung: Die Darstellung der Institution »ältere Privatdozentur« im ersten Teil wird im zweiten Band durch biographische Skizzen von 32 Privatdozenten des Sommersemesters 1812 ergänzt. Sie verdeutlichen, dass die Privatdozentur nur für wenige eine Pflanzschule künftiger Professoren war, als die sie der Göttinger Orientalist Michaelis 1773 bezeichnete - nur sechs Privatdozenten erreichten eine Professur. Der Regelfall war ein nicht habilitierter Privatlehrer ohne Berufungsaussicht, der mit seinem Zweitberuf den gehaltlosen Privatdozenten in sich ernährte. Das Karrierespektrum in der gewählten Stichprobe ist weit gefächert: es reicht von dem bedeutenden Arabistikprofessor G. W. Freytag an der Universität Bonn bis zum örtlichen Notar J. G. Quentin, der am Rande des akademischen Proletariats stand, bis hin zu dem jung dahingegangenen Autor Ernst Schulze, der für Cäcilie Tychsen einfühlsame Poesie schrieb und posthum zu einem Lieblingsdichter seiner Zeit wurde. Die Stichprobe schließt den Friseurgesellen Ch. Focke ein, der sich zum Mathematikdozenten aufschwang, sowie den Musicus J. N. Forkel, einen Mitbegründer der Musikwissenschaft. Die Arbeit beruht vor allem auf den Akten des Universitätsarchivs und führt daher viele Aspekte des alltäglichen Mit- und Gegeneinanders an der Georgia Augusta auf, die im ausführlichen Personen- und Sachregister aufgeführt sind. Abgerundet werden die Einsichten in den akademischen Alltag durch den Blick auf andere Universitäten: von Salamanca, zu dessen Promotionsbräuchen auch der Stierkampf gehörte, bis hin zur Erfurter Universität, an der man eine Promotion kaufen konnte und darüber hinaus auf W. von Humboldts Neugründung, die sich 1810 am östlichen Horizont zeigte

    Kurzfassung: Dieses zweibändige Werk beleuchtet erstmals umfassend die Geschichte der Privatdozentur an der Georg August-Universität in Göttingen von ihrer Frühzeit bis zum Erlass der ersten selbständigen »Habilitationsordnung« im Jahr 1831. Eingehend untersucht sie eine Stichprobe der Privatdozenten des SS 1812. Damals lehrten über 70% der Privatdozenten ohne Habilitation auf Basis ihrer Promotion als lesende Doktoren oder als Magister legens. Der erste Band bietet eine detaillierte Untersuchung des bisher nicht erforschten Promotionswesens der vier Fakultäten und geht auf die Disputationspraxis ein. Wie promovierte man in einer Zeit, in der alles auf Latein abgemacht wurde: die Thesen und/oder Dissertation, das Rigorosum des Examens und die Inauguraldisputation? Für die Habilitation war nur eine weitere Disputation notwendig. Zwar war die Georgia Augusta um 1800 die wohl bedeutendste Universität ihrer Zeit, aber ihre Regelungen zur Promotion und Habilitation und die eingehend untersuchte »Observanz« der Prüfungspraxis waren nicht selten zweierlei.
