    Abstract: Die Meinungsmacht der öffentlich-rechtlichen Medien schien lange Zeit weitgehend unangetastet. Als Folge der digitalen Transformation hat sich das geändert. Das Überwinden von Informationsasymmetrien gelingt immer weniger, stattdessen wachsen die Ränder des Meinungsspektrums. Die zentrale Frage lautet: Wie kann gesellschaftliche Vielfalt künftig angemessener abgebildet werden, ohne Verbindendes weiter abzubauen? Die Beiträger_innen des Bandes loten die bestehenden Medienstrukturen kritisch aus und zeigen mögliche Alternativen auf. So könnte ein konkurrierendes Modell der Direktbeauftragung von Medienmacher_innen, finanziert aus den bestehenden Beitragseinnahmen, ARD, ZDF und Co. zum Sparen zwingen und das System in Bewegung bringen, ohne Mehrkosten zu verursachen

    Abstract: This volume focuses on how the Russian media reported on the Russo-Ukrainian War in 2014. It is the first to both quantitatively and qualitatively examine talk shows, which are extremely popular and omnipresent in Russian television. The study shows to what extent these shows were broadcast and which linguistic, acoustic, and visual means they used in order to influence their audiences
    Abstract: Wie wird Propaganda im Medium Fernsehen im 21. Jahrhundert gemacht und welche Strategien werden dafür verwendet? Diesen Fragen geht die vorliegende Studie nach, indem sie die mediale Berichterstattung in Russland über den Konflikt in der Ukraine im Jahr 2014 untersucht. Im Fokus stehen russische TV-Talkshows, welche neben den Nachrichtensendungen ein besonders effektives Mittel zur Meinungsmanipulation und Verbreitung bestimmter Informationen sind. Das Buch besteht aus drei Teilen. Der erste Teil definiert den Betriff Propaganda und führt bisherige Untersuchungen zum Krieg in der Ukraine an. Der zweite Teil dokumentiert die Ereignisse des Jahres 2014 und stellt das russische Fernsehen sowie die TV-Talkshow als Forschungsgegenstand vor. Im dritten Teil folgt eine umfassende quantitative und qualitative Untersuchung von Talkshowsendungen. Während die quantitative Analyse den Umfang der propagandistischen Einwirkung und die Reaktion des russischen Fernsehens auf die Ereignisse in der Ukraine dokumentiert, macht die Kritische Diskursanalyse deutlich, mithilfe welcher sprachlicher, akustischer und visueller Mittel in den Talkshows gearbeitet wurde, um die gegnerische Seite zu diffamieren und eigene Seite zu heroisieren

    Abstract: "In TV Snapshots, Lynn Spigel explores snapshots of people posing in front of their television sets in the 1950s through the early 1970s. Like today's selfies, TV snapshots were a popular photographic practice through which people visualized their lives in an increasingly mediated culture. Drawing on her collection of over 5,000 TV snapshots, Spigel shows that people did not just watch TV: women used the TV set as a backdrop for fashion and glamour poses; people dressed in drag in front of the screen; and, in pinup poses, people even turned the TV setting into a space for erotic display. While the TV industry promoted on-screen images of white nuclear families in suburban homes, the snapshots depict a broad range of people across racial, ethnic, and class backgrounds that do not always conform to the reigning middle-class nuclear family ideal. Showing how the television set became a central presence in the home that exceeded its mass entertainment function, Spigel highlights how TV snapshots complicate understandings of the significance of TV in everyday life"--

    Abstract: "Achtung! Achtung! Hier ist die Sendestelle Berlin im Vox-Haus auf Welle 400." Mit diesen Worten nimmt am 29. Oktober 1923, mitten in der Hyperinflation, der erste deutsche Radiosender den Betrieb auf. Der Tag gilt als Geburtsstunde des Rundfunks in Deutschland. Was damals mit keinem einzigen zahlenden, aber diversen Schwarzhörern beginnt, entwickelt sich im Laufe des 20. Jahrhunderts zu den prägenden Massenmedien Hörfunk und Fernsehen. Die grosse Sonderausstellung "Auf Empfang" im Mannheimer TECHNOSEUM kann 2022/23 gleich zwei mediale Jubiläen feiern: Der NWDR startet nach Fernseh-Versuchssendungen am 25. Dezember 1952 den ersten regelmässigen Programmdienst. Der Katalog zur Ausstellung erzählt die Geschichte von Rundfunk und Fernsehen vor dem zeitgeschichtlichen Hintergrund. Dabei geht es auch um die Technik im Wandel der Zeit, um Programmgeschichte und den Wandel der Radio-Hör- & Fernseh-Seh-Gewohnheiten.

    Abstract: "This study focuses on Soviet television audiences and examines their watching habits and the way they made use of television programs. Kirsten Bönker challenges the common misconception that viewers perceived Soviet television programming and entertainment culture as dull and formulaic. This study draws extensively on archival sources and oral history interviews to analyze how Soviet television involved audiences in political communication and how it addressed audiences' emotional commitments to Soviet values and the Soviet way of life. Bönker argues that the Brezhnev era influenced political stability and brought an unprecedented rise of the living standards, creating new meanings for consumerism, the idea of the "home," and private life among Soviet citizens. Exploring the concept of emotional bonding, this study engages broader discussions on the durability of the Soviet Union until perestroika."--

    Abstract: Der Sammelband geht der Frage nach, inwiefern in massenmedialen Kontexten neue Emotionskulturen zum Tragen kommen. Die Beiträge untersuchen, wie Emotionen verbal und mit anderen Zeichen hervorgebracht oder neu verhandelt werden und welche soziopragmatischen oder diskursiven Effekte dies hat. Im Zentrum steht damit einerseits die Analyse der Medialität des Emotionsdisplays, andererseits die Frage nach medial emergierenden Emotionskulturen: Sind neue sprachliche und andere soziale Praktiken der Emotionalisierung zu beobachten? Der Band vereinigt kulturanalytisch-medienlinguistische Analysen zu Emotionsdarstellungen in digitaler Kommunikation (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Selbsthilfeplattformen), aber auch im Fernsehen (Talkshows, Wissensdokus) und in der Medialität der Handschriftlichkeit. Dabei werden Phänomene wie Hatespeech und Shitstorms auf Facebook und Twitter ebenso untersucht wie Fan-Trauer auf Twitter, Fussball-Livetweets und Emotionalisierungen in YouTube-Videos, Online-Selbsthilfegruppen, TV-Wissensdokus oder in der Fernsehrezeption in Social Media.

    Abstract: This book explores the role of television in the 1950s and early 1960s, with a focus on the relationship between Tories and TV. The early 1950s were characterized by recovery from war and high politics. Television was a new medium that eventually came to dominate mass media and political culture. But what impact did this transition have on political organization and elite power structures? Winston Churchill avoided it; Anthony Eden wanted to control it; Harold Macmillan tried to master it; and Alec Douglas-Home was not Prime Minister long enough to fully utilize it. The Conservative Party's relationship with the new medium of television is a topic rich with scholarly questions and interesting quirks that were characteristic of the period. This exploration examines the changing dynamics between politics and the media, at grassroots and elite levels. Through analysing rich and diverse source materials from the Conservative Party Archive, Anthony Ridge-Newman takes a case study approach to comparing the impact of television at different points in the party's history. 0In mapping changes across a thirteen year period of continual Conservative governance, this book argues that the advent of television contributed to the party's transition from a membership-focused party to a television-centric professionalized elite

    Abstract: Introduces key ideas and offers a sense of the new frontiers and questions in the emerging field of disability media studies Disability Media Studies articulates the formation of a new field of study, based in the rich traditions of media, cultural, and disability studies. Necessarily interdisciplinary and diverse, this collection weaves together work from scholars from a variety of disciplinary homes, into a broader conversation about exploring media artifacts in relation to disability. The book provides a comprehensive overview for anyone interested in the study of disability and media today. Case studies include familiar contemporary examples—such as Iron Man 3, Lady Gaga, and Oscar Pistorius—as well as historical media, independent disability media, reality television, and media technologies. The contributors consider disability representation, the role of media in forming cultural assumptions about ability, the construction of disability via media technologies, and how disabled audiences respond to particular media artifacts. The volume concludes with afterwords from two different perspectives on the field—one by disability scholar Rachel Adams, the other by media scholars Mara Mills and Jonathan Sterne—that reflect upon the collection, the ongoing conversations, and the future of disability media studies.     Abstract: Abstract: In der Dissertation wird die Frage verfolgt, wie sorbisches (Alltags-)Leben in öffentlich-rechtlichen, deutschsprachigen Fernsehsendungen der Jahre 1992 bis einschließlich 2012 dargestellt wird. Von kulturwissenschaftlichem Interesse ist dabei, wie Wahrnehmungen einer anerkannten nationalen Minderheit in deutschsprachigen Fernsehsendungen verhandelt werden und auf welchen grundlegenden Vorstellungen diese Wahrnehmungen basieren und welchen Einfluss dabei einerseits die konkreten Produktionsbedingungen und andererseits sorbische Fremd- und Selbstwahrnehmungen auf den audiovisuellen Inhalt haben. 〈br〉Anhand umfassender Video-Archivrecherchen, einer einwöchigen Feldforschung während Dreharbeiten und mehrerer teilstandardisierter Experteninterviews und unter Bezugnahme auf eine diskurstheoretisch begründete Methodik, die am Begriff der kulturellen Differenz festmacht, wird das Spektrum von Sinngebungen, die in die Fernsehsendungen eingehen, und deren Begründung innerhalb der Dissertation aufgezeigt. 〈br〉So zeigen sich etwa zeitliche, räumliche und sozio-kulturelle Korrelationen der Inhalte von Fernsehsendungen, aber auch produktionsabhängige Parameter. Schließlich wird deutlich, dass innerhalb der Sendungen zu den Sorben größtenteils auf ab- und ausgrenzende Aspekte zurückgegriffen wird, die den `Anderen´, den `Fremden´ aus Sicht der Mehrheit beschreiben – und das, obwohl die Betrachtung einer mit der Mehrheit `assoziierten´, nationalen Minderheit die Chance böte, kulturelle Differenz als Teil des `Eigenen´ wahrzunehmen und als Aspekt der Mehrheitsgesellschaft zu reflektieren

    Abstract: Mit „Behinderung“ einerseits und „Migration/ Kultur“ andererseits rückt der vorliegende Band zwei für Vielfalt und Diversität stehende Dimensionen in den Mittelpunkt, die im öffentlichen Leben und damit auch im Kontext von Schule und Unterricht zusehends an Bedeutung gewinnen. Die internationale und interdisziplinäre AutorInnengemeinschaft des Bandes geht in ihren elf Beiträgen diesen Dimensionen und dabei Leitfragen wie den folgenden nach: Welche Formen von Diversität bzw. von „Behinderung“ und/ oder von kultureller und migrationsbedingter Vielfalt werden in Film und Fernsehen thematisiert? Auf welche Weisen werden diese thematisiert bzw. dargestellt? In welchem Grade und in welchen Hinsichten geben diese Thematisierungen „Realität“ wieder? Befördern die Thematisierungen und Darstellungen integrative oder inklusive Zielsetzungen? Wie werden die Thematisierungen und Darstellungen in verschiedenen Film- und Fernsehformaten von unterschiedlichen Personengruppen rezipiert? Können die verschiedenen Film- und Fernsehformate im Unterricht genutzt werden, um Diversität zu thematisieren und/ oder um Prozesse des kulturellen bzw. sprachlichen Lernens anzustoßen?
