Abstract: The internet is making our daily life as digital as possible and this new era is called the Internet of Everything (IoE). Edge computing is an emerging data analytics concept that addresses the challenges associated with IoE. More specifically, edge computing facilitates data analysis at the edge of the network instead of interacting with cloud-based servers. Therefore, more and more devices need to be added in remote locations without any substantial monitoring strategy. This increased connectivity and the devices used for edge computing will create more room for cyber criminals to exploit the system’s vulnerabilities. Ensuring cyber security at the edge should not be an afterthought or a huge challenge. The devices used for edge computing are not designed with traditional IT hardware protocols. There are diverse-use cases in the context of edge computing and Internet of Things (IoT) in remote locations. However, the cyber security configuration and software updates are often overlooked when they are most needed to fight cyber crime and ensure data privacy. Therefore, the threat landscape in the context of edge computing becomes wider and far more challenging. There is a clear need for collaborative work throughout the entire value chain of the network. In this context, this book addresses the cyber security challenges associated with edge computing, which provides a bigger picture of the concepts, techniques, applications, and open research directions in this area. In addition, the book serves as a single source of reference for acquiring the knowledge on the technology, process and people involved in next generation computing and security. It will be a valuable aid for researchers, higher level students and professionals working in the area.

Each pattern includes a description of the problem and a proposed solution with Kubernetes specifics. Many patterns are also backed by concrete code examples. This book is ideal for developers already familiar with basic Kubernetes concepts who want to learn common cloud-native patterns. You'll learn about the following pattern categories: Foundational patterns cover the core principles and practices for building container-based cloud-native applications. Behavioral patterns explore finer-grained concepts for managing various types of container and platform interactions. Structural patterns help you organize containers within a pod, the atom of the Kubernetes platform. Configuration patterns provide insight into how application configurations can be handled in Kubernetes. Advanced patterns cover more advanced topics such as extending the platform with operators.

Abstract: Chaos engineering is a highly collaborative activity. When applied well, virtually everyone is responsible for exploring, surfacing, overcoming, and validating weaknesses in their systems. That can lead to a lot of chaos engineering activity across a collection of systems at any moment in time. How can you keep chaos engineering from becoming, well, too chaotic? One key technique is chaos observability. In this ebook, Russ Miles of ChaosIQ demonstrates how to bring your chaos experiments into the world of system observability. Chaos observability enables you to surface, debug, and even visualize chaos experiment activities across your system in real time and through time series recordings. You'll learn how chaos observability helps everyone in production be aware of chaos activities occurring within and across systems. Understand why it's imperative to make chaos engineering observable Learn how to bring chaos experiments and engineering into the overall system observability picture Make chaos observability actionable and difficult to ignore through alerts and Slack integration

Abstract: Every decade since the 1960s, researchers at companies like IBM, Amazon, and many others have introduced major new frameworks and techniques to handle rising data management problems. This concise ebook explains how these new systems helped data science evolve quickly-from hierarchical and relational databases to big data and cloud computing to streaming and graph data. Computer scientist Paco Nathan shows members of your data science team how major companies created each of these data management systems not just to deal with new data types but also to take full advantage of the opportunities the data presented. Their efforts over the years have propelled an entire industry. This report covers the historical progression of data management topics including: Hierarchical databases -1960s mainframe batch systems are still used in finance, healthcare, manufacturing, energy, and other industries. Relational databases -these enabled faster transactions, mathematical optimization, and budgeting guarantees for many businesses. Big data -this includes relatively cheap horizontal scale-out systems for collecting huge amounts of customer data. Cloud computing -large companies began managing reliable, scalable, cost-effective data centers; Amazon turned the concept into a business. Cluster schedulers -managing horizontal clusters was difficult before schedulers such as Apache Mesos appeared. Streaming data -data continuously generated by different sources requires responses in "real time"-generally milliseconds.

Abstract: Today's successful businesses are increasingly digital and technologically astute, but how do they attract and manage employees in a world where two billion people work part-time? How do they develop a workforce when automation is advancing? And how do they serve customers and attract and retain employees when competition for both is high and trust is at an all-time low? In this O'Reilly Radar report, Josh Bersin, Tim O'Reilly, Roger Magoulas, and Mike Loukides address what business leaders, tech leaders, and decision makers can expect, how they can prepare, and what they should learn to shape the future of the business. These lessons affect much more than the bottom line. This report covers big-picture trends we expect to impact the future success of all firms, including: Trust in business is changing: customers seek firms whose values reflect their own. Employees want satisfaction and meaning, not just money and security. The shift to AI and machine learning is changing almost every job. Companies are becoming networked marketplaces that build on core competencies while outsourcing the rest. Many firms offer compensation beyond pay, including alternate work relationships, flexible workplaces, and training opportunities. Embracing diversity requires solving compensation problems, creating a safe workplace, and valuing an employee's opinions.

Abstract: Currently strain engineering is the main technique used to enhance the performance of advanced silicon-based metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs). Written from an engineering application standpoint, Strain-Engineered MOSFETs introduces promising strain techniques to fabricate strain-engineered MOSFETs and to methods to assess the applications of these techniques. The book provides the background and physical insight needed to understand new and future developments in the modeling and design of n- and p-MOSFETs at nanoscale. This book focuses on recent developments in strain-engineered MOSFETS implemented in high-mobility substrates such as, Ge, SiGe, strained-Si, ultrathin germanium-on-insulator platforms, combined with high-k insulators and metal-gate. It covers the materials aspects, principles, and design of advanced devices, fabrication, and applications. It also presents a full technology computer aided design (TCAD) methodology for strain-engineering in Si-CMOS technology involving data flow from process simulation to process variability simulation via device simulation and generation of SPICE process compact models for manufacturing for yield optimization. Microelectronics fabrication is facing serious challenges due to the introduction of new materials in manufacturing and fundamental limitations of nanoscale devices that result in increasing unpredictability in the characteristics of the devices. The down scaling of CMOS technologies has brought about the increased variability of key parameters affecting the performance of integrated circuits. This book provides a single text that combines coverage of the strain-engineered MOSFETS and their modeling using TCAD, making it a tool for process technology development and the design of strain-engineered MOSFETs.

Abstract: Tensor Product Model Transformation in Polytopic Model-Based Control offers a new perspective of control system design. Instead of relying solely on the formulation of more effective LMIs, which is the widely adopted approach in existing LMI-related studies, this cutting-edge book calls for a systematic modification and reshaping of the polytopic convex hull to achieve enhanced performance. Varying the convexity of the resulting TP canonical form is a key new feature of the approach. The book concentrates on reducing analytical derivations in the design process, echoing the recent paradigm shift on the acceptance of numerical solution as a valid form of output to control system problems. The salient features of the book include: Presents a new HOSVD-based canonical representation for (qLPV) models that enables trade-offs between approximation accuracy and computation complexity Supports a conceptually new control design methodology by proposing TP model transformation that offers a straightforward way of manipulating different types of convexity to appear in polytopic representation Introduces a numerical transformation that has the advantage of readily accommodating models described by non-conventional modeling and identification approaches, such as neural networks and fuzzy rules Presents a number of practical examples to demonstrate the application of the approach to generate control system design for complex (qLPV) systems and multiple control objectives. The authors' approach is based on an extended version of singular value decomposition applicable to hyperdimensional tensors. Under the approach, trade-offs between approximation accuracy and computation complexity can be performed through the singular values to be retained in the process. The use of LMIs enables the incorporation of multiple performance objectives into the control design problem and assurance of a solution via convex optimization if feasible. Tensor Product Model Transformation in Polytopic Model-Based Control includes examples and incorporates MATLAB® Toolbox TPtool. It provides a reference guide for graduate students, researchers, engineers, and practitioners who are dealing with nonlinear systems control applications.

Abstract: As this brief article explains, AI broadly defines many systems designed to answer questions and solve problems. Consider Amazon's recommendation system. Or the GPS navigation system that talks to you. Like plumbing or electricity, we'll soon take AI for granted as it steadily does more to help us manage our lives. In this article, O'Reilly's Mike Loukides and Ben Lorica offer a definition of AI by discussing the meaning of intelligence, and exploring whether modern AI applications operate as assistants or actors.

Abstract: Feature engineering is a crucial step in the machine-learning pipeline, yet this topic is rarely examined on its own. With this practical book, you'll learn techniques for extracting and transforming features-the numeric representations of raw data-into formats for machine-learning models. Each chapter guides you through a single data problem, such as how to represent text or image data. Together, these examples illustrate the main principles of feature engineering. Rather than simply teach these principles, authors Alice Zheng and Amanda Casari focus on practical application with exercises throughout the book. The closing chapter brings everything together by tackling a real-world, structured dataset with several feature-engineering techniques. Python packages including numpy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, and Matplotlib are used in code examples. You'll examine: Feature engineering for numeric data: filtering, binning, scaling, log transforms, and power transforms Natural text techniques: bag-of-words, n-grams, and phrase detection Frequency-based filtering and feature scaling for eliminating uninformative features Encoding techniques of categorical variables, including feature hashing and bin-counting Model-based feature engineering with principal component analysis The concept of model stacking, using k-means as a featurization technique Image feature extraction with manual and deep-learning techniques

Abstract: An indispensable guide to reducing the suffering-of patients and caregivers alike-and to improving healthcare delivery for all In our efforts to treat patients, cure illness, and manage institutions, healthcare professionals too often overlook the fundamental purpose everyone in the industry shares: to alleviate suffering. Press Ganey's Chief Nursing Officer, Christina Dempsey, has worked everywhere in healthcare, from the ward floor to the hospital boardroom. She has also experienced the system as a patient and as a family member of a critically ill patient. In The Antidote to Suffering , this 30-year healthcare veteran and patient-experience thought leader argues that the key to improving healthcare is to reduce the suffering-physical, psychological, and emotional-of patients and caregivers alike through Compassionate Connected CareTM. Drawing on her 360-degree perspective, Dempsey offers a comprehensive, detailed, evidence-based plan that addresses the clinical, operational, cultural, and behavioral dimensions of care that every patient and caregiver experiences, in every setting. When suffering decreases, Dempsey argues, outcomes improve for patients and those who care for them. A virtuous cycle takes hold, leading to increases in morale, loyalty, and productivity and results in a culture that drives quality, safety, and value. It paves the path for creating a new national healthcare culture-one that values compassion, fosters efficiency, and drives innovation The Antidote to Suffering is the first book to explore the pervasiveness of suffering in our healthcare system, and to provide the strategies and tools to: * Identify and measure suffering throughout your organization * Create a system in which every clinical response is informed by compassion * Operationalize staff behavior to promote meaning and purpose * Increase productivity by building a culture of collaboration Reducing human suffering isn't just a moral imperative for healthcare providers. It's a practical way to improve organizations and fix our broken system-without sacrificing the respect, dignity, and compassion we all deserve.

Abstract: Many industry experts consider unsupervised learning the next frontier in artificial intelligence, one that may hold the key to general artificial intelligence. Since the majority of the world's data is unlabeled, conventional supervised learning cannot be applied. Unsupervised learning, on the other hand, can be applied to unlabeled datasets to discover meaningful patterns buried deep in the data, patterns that may be near impossible for humans to uncover. Author Ankur Patel shows you how to apply unsupervised learning using two simple, production-ready Python frameworks: Scikit-learn and TensorFlow using Keras. With code and hands-on examples, data scientists will identify difficult-to-find patterns in data and gain deeper business insight, detect anomalies, perform automatic feature engineering and selection, and generate synthetic datasets. All you need is programming and some machine learning experience to get started. Compare the strengths and weaknesses of the different machine learning approaches: supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning Set up and manage machine learning projects end-to-end Build an anomaly detection system to catch credit card fraud Clusters users into distinct and homogeneous groups Perform semisupervised learning Develop movie recommender systems using restricted Boltzmann machines Generate synthetic images using generative adversarial networks

Abstract: There are many benefits to becoming a data-driven organization, including the ability to accelerate and improve business decision accuracy through the real-time processing of transactions, social media streams, and IoT data. But those benefits require significant changes to your infrastructure. You need flexible architectures that can copy data to analytics platforms at near-zero latency while maintaining 100% production uptime. Fortunately, a solution already exists. This ebook demonstrates how change data capture (CDC) can meet the scalability, efficiency, real-time, and zero-impact requirements of modern data architectures. Kevin Petrie, Itamar Ankorion, and Dan Potter-technology marketing leaders at Attunity-explain how CDC enables faster and more accurate decisions based on current data and reduces or eliminates full reloads that disrupt production and efficiency. The book examines: How CDC evolved from a niche feature of database replication software to a critical data architecture building block Architectures where data workflow and analysis take place, and their integration points with CDC How CDC identifies and captures source data updates to assist high-speed replication to one or more targets Case studies on cloud-based streaming and streaming to a data lake and related architectures Guiding principles for effectively implementing CDC in cloud, data lake, and streaming environments The Attunity Replicate platform for efficiently loading data across all major database, data warehouse, cloud, streaming, and Hadoop platforms

Abstract: Killing your current marketing structure may be the only way to save it! Two of the world's top marketing experts reveal the next level of breakthrough success-transforming your marketing strategy into a standalone profit center. What if everything we currently know about marketing is what is holding us back? Over the last two decades, we've watched the entire world change the way it buys and stays loyal to brands. But, marketing departments are still operating in the same, campaign-centric, product-led operation that they have been following for 75 years. The most innovative companies around the world have achieved remarkable marketing results by fundamentally changing their approach. By creating value for customers through the use of owned media and the savvy use of content, these businesses have dramatically increased customer loyalty and revenue. Some of them have even taken it to the next step and developed a marketing function that actually pays for itself. Killing Marketing explores how these companies are ending the marketing as we know it--in favor of this new, exciting model. Killing Marketing provides the insight, approaches, and examples you need to understand these disruptive forces in ways that turn your marketing from cost center to revenue creator. This book builds the case for, literally, transforming the purpose of marketing within your organization. Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose of the Content Marketing Institute show how leading companies are able sell the very content that propels their marketing strategy. You'll learn how to: * Transform all or part of your marketing operation into a media company * Integrate this new operation into traditional marketing efforts * Develop best practices for attracting and retaining audiences * Build a strategy for competing against traditional media companies * Create a paid/earned media strategy fueled by an owned media strategy Red Bull, Johnson & Johnson, Disney and Arrow Electronics have succeeded in what ten years ago would have been deemed impossible. They continue to market their products as they always have, and, through their content-driven and audience-building initiatives, they drive value outside the day-to-day products they sell-and monetize it directly. Killing Marketing rewrites the rules of marketing-enabling you to make the kind of transition that turns average companies into industry legends.
