    Kurzfassung: From the plane an escarpment wooded with frankincense trees and after that the settlement of Hasik at Khuriya Muriya Bay can be seen. A woman frankincense collector is demonstrating all the different phases of gum collection while collecting gum from frankincense tree. She is using a special scraper and a collecting basket. The special technique used in scraping, the different gum qualities, and the way the gum is stored are presented.

    Kurzfassung: Im Wald geschlagene Hölzer werden zugerichtet und mit Lianen zu einem trichterförmigen Gerät mit langer Stange zusammengebunden. Frauen graben damit tief im Boden sitzende Esouma-Wurzeln aus. Im Lager werden einige Stücke in der Glut des Feuers geröstet.
    Kurzfassung: A man named Yassi makes a tool djo. For this purpose he requires a stick about six metres long and four flat pieces of wood which he splits off from a suitable tree in the forest. In the camp he shapes the pieces of wood, tapers one end off to a point. He then splits one end of the long stick into four pieces, inserts the pieces of wood into the openings, and ties the whole so as to form a funnel. Two girls then take the finished tool and go out into the forest. They discover an esouma plant, which has a root going up to six metres into the ground, and they dig out the root piece by piece by use of the funnel. Back in the camp the girls prepare the roots to eat.

The film shows the gatherers passing through the bush as well as the different techniques of collecting. On their way home the women also take firewood with them, back in the camp one woman roasts a handful of larvae in the hot ashes of a fire in front of her hut.

    Kurzfassung: The film shows the fishing of sea tang, carried on at low water, when the rocks stand up out of the water and boats and rafts may easily pass. The women fish on foot on the beach or in the water, the men from boats. The collected sea tang is carried to the drying-ground with hand-barrows or with ox-carts.

    Kurzfassung: The garland maker (Mali) Ramphal Bhandari makes paper-thin strips from the root fibres of the aquatic plant kodhila. The Mali then ties the strips into round tufts or pompons (geni) suspended as decoration in religious ceremonies. The second part of the film shows the Mali making a jhanp, a temple-shaped miniature baldachin suspended over a place of worship.

    Kurzfassung: Three half-sisters of a Piro family living in Miaria on the Upper Urubamba go by boat to a place where they find wild growing reed (Gynerium spec.). They detach the inner ribs of the reed-leaves, tie them into bundles and take them home. After this they select in the nearby forest a tree with a flexible fibrous bark, strip the bark from the tree, remove the inner bark and carry it home. In the house Laura, the second sister, who will make a mat, lays a double bast strip on the ground, places the ribs of the reed-leaves at right angle between the bast strips, and passes bast fibers through the leaf-ribs (technique of wicker basket weave in the main part and of twined weave at the edges). After plaiting from the middle one half of the mat, Laura turns round and makes the second half. The protruding ends of the leaf-ribs are then cut, the ends of the bast strips knotted at the edge of the mat. Laura calls her smaller brothers and sisters and they sit down with her on the new mat.

    Kurzfassung: Zwei Männer aus Bisha-ashi-teri sammeln Rindenspäne der zur Curare-Bereitung verwendeten Pflanzen. Im Dorf werden zunächst Giftpfeilspitzen aus Palmholzsplittern hergestellt, dann werden die Rindenspäne mit heißem Wasser überbrüht. Mit dem curarehaltigen Wasser werden die über einem Feuer befestigten Pfeilspitzen mehrmals bestrichen. Wenn das Wasser verdampft und das Gift an den Spitzen eingedickt ist, werden diese in einem Bambusköcher aufbewahrt.
    Kurzfassung: Two men detach bark shavings from the plants used for extracting curare and bring them wrapped in leaves to the village. There arrow tips are made from palm slivers. Hot water is poured upon the shavings in a funnel made of leaves, and liquid curare drops and collects in a half gourd. The arrow tips, hardened over the fire, are smeared several times with the curare-poison. When the water has evaporated and the poison applied to the tips has become hard, the tips are put in a bamboo quiver where they will be taken out for use and inserted in the arrow-shafts.

    Kurzfassung: Eine Frau mit zwei Kindern aus dem Dorf Pangala fährt mit dem Kanu aus. Sie schneiden Zuckerrohr ab und bringen es nach Hause. Dort wird das Zuckerrohr von mehreren Frauen durch eine Zuckerrohrpresse gedreht. Der Zuckerrohrsaft wird in einem Holzgefäß gesammelt. Ein Mädchen trinkt von dem Saft.
    Kurzfassung: A small group of Noanamá made up of a young woman and two children go out in a canoe to find some sugar cane from which to make fresh sugar cane juice. They cut come sugar can, bring it home and there it is out through the sugar cane press called trapiche. In this work several women are involved, either operating the machine or feeding the sugar cane stalks into it. The sugar cane juice drips and collects in a wooden dish underneath, specially brought in for this purpose. When enough has been obtained a small girl picks up a gourd and dips it into the vessel to drink the fresh juice.

    Kurzfassung: Ein Mann aus Quebrada Taparral sammelt Lianenranken. Seine Schwiegertochter entfernt deren Rinde, spleißt die Lianen der Länge nach und schabt sie mit der Machete dünn und geschmeidig, flicht ein vierteiliges Diagnonalgeflecht in 3/3 Köperbindung und macht aus den offengelassenen unteren Enden den Fächergriff.
    Kurzfassung: A man, called Marcellino, gathers some hanging vines in the forest in order to have them made into a fire fan by this daughter-in-law. She first strips the bark of the lianas Marcellino had collected and then smooths them over and thins them down with a machete before beginning to plait the fire fan. She starts by crossing a few strands and then adds more and more horizontally and vertically, leaving open loose ends in the lower half from which she will later make the handle for the fire fan. The film shows an oblique 3/3 twill plaiting made in 4 sections.

    Kurzfassung: Ein Mann erklettert mittels eines Gerüsts aus zwei Stangenkreuzen eine Pijiguao-Palme (Guilielma gasipaes) bis zum Fruchtstand, erntet die Büschel mit roten Früchten und läßt sie an einer Liane zu Boden, wo sie von seinem Sohn in Empfang genommen werden.
    Kurzfassung: To avoid hurting himself by the thorny stem, a Waika man climbs a pijiguao-palm tree by means of a framework consisting of two wooden crosses which he displaces until he reches the fruits at the top of the palm-tree. He passes down the fruits in bunches by means of a liana which is received on the ground by his small son.
