    Kurzfassung: Since Pierre Bourdieu, we have known that the body forms incorporated cultural and social capital. It is a commodity and means of production, a sign of belonging to a social class, a place where sex, gender and power relations are negotiated or a pretext for social exclusions and racism. The body is the object of punishments, sanctions and social control, a support for affects, obsessions and illnesses as well as a site of rebellion and resistance. The 19th century novels analyzed in the contributions to this volume tell all this. From the perspective of current body studies, we propose a new reading of the great stories from Balzac to Zola, via Mirbeau, Maupassant, Louise Michel, Georges Sand, Rachilde, Eugène Sue and Huysmans to demonstrate, through their texts, how the Images of the body and the policies of capital are part of the imagination and memory of 19th century French society

    Kurzfassung: Kennen Sie die Geheimsprache der Pariser Metzger? Stéphane Hardys kulturhistorische, lexikologische und soziolinguistische Darstellung des largonji du louchébem gewährt exklusive Einblicke in die verborgene Welt einer ganz besonderen Sprechergruppe. Der fast ausschließlich in der gesprochenen Form verwendete louchébem ist eine „verhüllende Sondersprache“. Für Außenstehende ist er nicht verständlich und soll es auch nicht sein. In der Fachliteratur galt der louchébem als nahezu ausgestorben. So hat diese Thematik in der (franko-)romanistischen Sprachwissenschaft bisher nur wenig Beachtung gefunden. Doch der largonji du louchébem ist sehr lebendig. Das weist die Autorin mit ihrer qualitativ-empirischen Studie auf der Basis umfangreichen authentischen Gesprächsmaterials nach.

    Kurzfassung: This book is an in depth, extensive study of Romanian queer cultural products and brings an essential and very needed contribution to the literature on Central and SEE gender studies, post-communism studies, media, and cultural studies, while at the same time being very relevant for transnational queer studies.The book looks at Romanian queer culture ”from inside”, and also from the acknowledgment that the research process is guided by the sensitivity of the approached topics, by the lack of archival footprints, and by a solid dose of media archaeology, especially when looking at the beginning of Romanian LGBT+ activism in the 90s. The book starts from contemporary Romanian cultural products that are either focusing on queer topics or (and sometimes both) produced by queer creators. It looks back at the memories of seminal queer and trans activists in extensive interviews conducted for this volume, and fragmented literary and media sources that cover the most part of the 20th century. Ramona Dima is a researcher in queer and gender studies with focus on South East Europe. Her publications and topics of interests include queer culture, sexuality and migration, LGBT+ activism, and anti-gender politics. She is the recipient of a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship hosted by the Centre for Gender Studies, University of Stavanger (2021-2023). Dr. Dima holds a PhD from the University of Bucharest and is the initiator and co-organiser of Queer and Feminist Studies in Southeastern Europe International Conference.

Die von renommierten Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaftlerinnen und -wissenschaftlern vorgelegten Einzelinterpretationen stellen speziell für deutsche Leserinnen und Leser rund zwanzig markante narrative Werke aus zwei Jahrzehnten vor. Und warum, so fragt sich die französische Philosophin Barbara Cassin, empfinde ich umgekehrt Nostalgie, wenn ich an Korsika denke, obwohl ich meine Wurzeln nicht dort habe? In ihrem gefeierten Essay erforscht sie dieses starke Gefühl und die Implikationen, die es für uns sowohl als Individuen als auch als Mitglieder einer politischen Gemeinschaft hat. Eine fesselnde philosophische Meditation über Flucht, Exil und die Sehnsucht nach einer Heimat. Or ces champs du savoir et de l’action étaient réunis sous l’Ancien Régime, quand le langage poétique paraissait le support le plus adéquat d’une pensée élevée. Michel de L’Hospital (v. 1505-1573) a incarné au plus haut point cette union. Entre 1543 et 1573, le chancelier-poète commente en latin poétique et philosophique les aléas de son existence et de son temps, tout en luttant pour la conciliation religieuse et la justice. Il réfléchit aux théories de l’écriture mais affiche ses distances avec les poètes professionnels autant qu’avec les poètes courtisans. Il voit en la poésie une clef pour comprendre le monde et soi-même.
