    Kurzfassung: Eine Variante der in Bad Aussee üblichen Faschingsbriefe (vgl. Film E 2756) stellt das am Faschingssonntag 1979 im Hotel "Stadt Wien" aufgenommene "Ausseer Wandertheater" dar. Es weist Züge des Wiener Kabaretts auf und will vor allem die Bürger des Marktes ansprechen. Der Film enthält neben Eingangs- und Schlußlied drei der insgesamt sechs Nummern des Programms.
    Kurzfassung: A variant of the usual "Faschingbriefe" at Bad Aussee is the "Ausseer Wandertheater" shot on Shrove sunday 1979 at the hotel "Stadt Wien". It contains features of the Viennese cabaret and is intended to address primarily the citizens of Bad Aussee. The film shows besides the songs at beginning and end three out of the six sketches of the program.

    Kurzfassung: Die aus neun Männern bestehende zwanglose Gruppe der "Reiterer" - so genannt nach der "Reitern" (Gemeinde Bad Aussee), wo ihr Leiter wohnt - trägt fast jedes Jahr am Faschingsmontag in mehreren Lokalen im Raum Aussee einen selbstverfaßten, gesprochenen und gesungenen Faschingsbrief vor. In der Themenwahl und im Darstellungsstil strebt diese Gruppe eine typisch "ländliche" Wirkung an. Das vorliegende Filmdokument, das außer 6 Sketches auch Einzug, Begrüßung und Verabschiedung enthält, wurde am Faschingsmontag 1978 im Gasthaus "Steirerhof" in Bad Aussee aufgenommen.
    Kurzfassung: The "Reiterer" an informal group so called after the living place of four members "Reitern" (community of Bad Aussee), sing nearly every year on shrove monday a "Faschingbrief". By means of choice of the topics of their criticism and of their style of acting they strive after achieving a "rural" effect. The film shows selling of leaflets, in the Aussee regions as well called "Faschingbrief", six sung sketches and the stay of the Faschingbrief singers at "Steirerhof" after their scene.

    Kurzfassung: Nach der Beisetzung eines ihrer Mitglieder sind nachts die Nachtmasken von vier Maskengesellschaften erschienen, um seinen Tod zu beklagen. Sie spielen die geheimen Juju-Pfeifen. Als einzige Masken sind die "running jujus" erschienen, allerdings ohne Gesichtsnetz.
    Kurzfassung: After the burial of one of their members the night masks of four masks societies have arrived to lament his death. They play their "dangerous" musical instruments. The "running jujus" are the only masks to have appeared - but without their facenets.

    Kurzfassung: Aus dem halbierten Stück eines Baumstammes stellt ein junger Mann die Rohform des anzufertigenden Stiels her. Mit einer Dechsel wird das Werkstück bearbeitet, bis es die Form eines Fragezeichens hat. Durch weiteres Runden und Glätten entsteht der fertige Stiel, der in die Tülle einer Grabschaufel eingepaßt wird.
    Kurzfassung: A young man roughly trims one of the halves of a cleft trunk and shapes it with an adze into the form of a mark of interrogation. After further rounding and smoothing the finished shaft is inserted into the socket of a digging shovel.

    Kurzfassung: In Parallelwulsttechnik stellt eine Töpferin ein etwa 50 cm hohes, eiförmiges Wassergefäß her. Nach dem Anfertigen der Grundform wird der obere Teil des Gefäßes mit Ziermustern versehen. Danach brennt die Frau das Gefäß in einem aufgeschichteten Holzfeuer. Durch Abreiben des Tons mit schwelenden Blättern wird dem Produkt ein schwarzer Glanz verliehen.
    Kurzfassung: A female potter makes an egg-shaped water vessel about 50 centimetres high by the coiling method. After shaping, the upper part of the vessel is decorated. The pot is baked in a wood fire. Finally the pottery is rubbed with smouldering leaves to give it a black glaze.

    Kurzfassung: Vorbereitung der Waldgeister: Körperbemalung und Ankleiden. Pantomimischer Auftritt der Waldgeister vor der Dorfbevölkerung außerhalb des abgezäunten Männerhausbezirkes. Anschließend Auftritt der Ahnfrauen, zweier mythischer Schwestern, der besondere Bedeutung für die Frauen hat.
    Kurzfassung: The men representing the spirits of the forest are painted and decorated. The spirits of the forest dance and show themselves above the fence surrounding the men's house. Two heavily decorated dancers appear in front of the fence and represent two female ancestors. They dance together with another men and women of the village.

    Kurzfassung: One week before Ash Wednesday, Shrovetide is proclaimed out of a waggon in various places of the town of Wolfach. After the "Eleven o'clock Mass" on the following "Dirty Thursday" pretzels are distributed to the children. The procession of the coffee-party tabbies takes place in the afternoon of the same day. Shrovetide proper is opened on Shrove Monday by the so-called "Well-awake", a historical custom meant to wake up the fools. The big Shrove Monday procession in the afternoon is followed by the Shrovetide play about the abduction and the liberation of the gipsy princess. On Shrove Thuesday, the children have a procession of their own during which the Pretzel Fool is carried along. Towards the evening, the Procession of the Noses is passing through the streets; women disguised as males that have been practicipating are plunged into the fountain. Shrovetide ends on Ash Wednesday when the fool break into lamentations at the Wailing Wall and are then going to wash their money-bags in the fountain.

    Kurzfassung: The wives and daughters of the king, accompanied by other women of the royal family, have come to the sacred compound of Lomoto to weed the grass with their iron hoes. A delegation of the Kwifon society watches over this ceremony which one of the Kwifon dignitaries concludes by blessing the women with the medicine gourd.

    Kurzfassung: Zu Beginn der Trockenzeit erscheint die Kwifon-Gesellschaft von Oku im heiligen Gehöft von Lomoto, um den königlichen Ahnen Mkong Moteh durch Tänze zu ehren. Nach dem Abschlagen des Grases auf dem Vorplatz verteilt der König Kolanüsse und Palmwein und hält eine Ansprache. Auf dem Grab beginnen die Tänze mit dem Rasseltornister Kebak. Unter Führung der Mabuh-Maske tritt Kwifon dann den Rückmarsch zum Palast an.
    Kurzfassung: The Kwifon Society of Oku has gathered at the sacred compound of Lomoto to perform the dances customary at the onset of the dry season in honour of Mkong Moteh the most eminent of the royal ancestors. After the forecourt is cleared of grass with a bushknife and the king has arranged for cola nuts and palm wine to be passed around, the dancing atop the king's grave begins, starting with Kebak, the most important Kwifon instrument. Led by the Mabuh mask Kwifon returns to the apace.

    Kurzfassung: Eine Variante der in Bad Aussee üblichen Faschingsbriefe (vgl. Film E 2756) stellt das am Faschingssonntag 1979 im Hotel "Stadt Wien" aufgenommene "Ausseer Wandertheater" dar. Es weist Züge des Wiener Kabaretts auf und will vor allem die Bürger des Marktes ansprechen. Der Film enthält neben Eingangs- und Schlußlied drei der insgesamt sechs Nummern des Programms.
    Kurzfassung: A variant of the usual "Faschingbriefe" at Bad Aussee is the "Ausseer Wandertheater" shot on Shrove sunday 1979 at the hotel "Stadt Wien". It contains features of the Viennese cabaret and is intended to address primarily the citizens of Bad Aussee. The film shows besides the songs at beginning and end three out of the six sketches of the program.

    Kurzfassung: Citizens of the market town go in masks and old-fashioned female clothing through the village, carrying with them big drums and pot-lids. They visit public institutions (e. g. school, town hall), traders, people of rank and - above all - inns. One culmination points is the admission of new members.     Kurzfassung: Two older men, Betengde, an inhabitant of the hamlet of Dingerkon, and Akablob, a visitor from Sungkon (northern Tanime valley), perform several narrative songs on mythical subjects while doing different works (making rotan fibres with a bamboo knife, plaiting a bracelet and a wristband). The songs have no reference to the work, but just express the men's individual mood.

Der Schmuck wird mit Latex grundiert, mit Holzkohle und roter Erdfarbe bemalt und mit Federn verziert. An der Arbeit beteiligen sich mehrere Männer. Der Mum wird von Männern nach Abschluß der Pubertät, vor allem bei Tanzfesten, getragen.
    Kurzfassung: By wrapping soft bark fibres around the strings of root fibres a fourteen-year-old boy makes a back ornament. He then spreads it with latex, paints it with charcoal and red ochre, and decorates it with feathers. Several people participate in the work. The mum is worn by men after puberty and put on for dance festivals.

    Kurzfassung: Auf dem Dorfplatz von Malingdam/Imarin, wo sich die Männer aufhalten, stellt ein Mann aus Kalzitplatten durch Ritzen mit Steinsplittern eine Nasenstabrohform her. Als die Rohform zerbricht, arbeitet er an einer neuen, die er anschließend am Bach naß schleift und poliert. Um ihn herum finden andere Aktivitäten statt: Flechten, Faserherstellung, Gesichtsbemalung, Körperreinigung, Haarscheren, Maultrommelspiel, Gesang usw.
    Kurzfassung: A man is sitting on the village ground, the meeting place of men. Using chips of broken stones he carves a nose sticks out of a piece of calcite stone. The calcite breaks and he carves another one. Afterwards he grinds and polishes it at the streamlet. Around him the other men are busy with plaiting, making fibres, face painting, body cleaning, hairshearing, playing a jew's harp, singing, etc.

    Kurzfassung: How closely linked the various domains of a planting culture are in daily life is demonstrated by means of examples from the activities of a leading Kwoma, Yessomari, who comes from the village of Meno-Saserman in the Washkuk Hills (Ambunti District, East Sepik Province). The film largely follows the planting cycle, from clearing the land (work done co-opertively by the planter, other men from his close cricle of friends and relations, and women) and burning the stubble through the digging of planting holes (done co-operatively by a large group of men), planting the yams, tying up and tending the creepers (the planter's three specific activities) to harvesting the crop. In between, glimpses are given of other sectors of male responsibility, like carving a decorated beam for a men's house, preparing a pandanus soup, extracting sago starch, making and decorating a piece of ceremonial pottery and painting a chip-carved shield. The film closes with a look at a harvest festival, which women with shields made of decorated net bags also take part in, dancing in front of the men's house.

    Kurzfassung: Zwei Jungen bauen an einem Wildwechsel in der Nähe von Munggona eine Gewichtfalle mit zwei Fangschlingen, einem Auslösestab und einer Schnurklinke. Sie fällen mit dem Steinbeil einen Baum. Auf dem Baumstamm, der einen Graben überbrückt und den Tieren als Laufsteg dienen soll, wird die Falle aus einer Astgabel, einigen Aststücken, einem Holzgewicht, Moos und pflanzlichem Bindematerial sowie zwei Fangschlingen errichtet. Sie dient zum Fangen von Nagern und Beuteltieren.
    Kurzfassung: In a game path near Munggona two boys set up a weight trap consisting of two nooses, a trigger, and a leverage cord. They fell a tree with a stone adze, place the trunk, as a bridge for the animals, across a ditch and set up the trap using a forked branch, several pieces of branches, a piece of wood as weight, moss, vegetable cords, and two nooses. The trap is used to catch rodents and marsupials.

    Kurzfassung: Asin, ein 16jähriger Junge aus einem Nachbartal (Siferuk), ist mit Verwandten und Freunden zu Besuch nach Munggona gekommen, wo er vor einiger Zeit initiiert wurde. Der Besuch dient der zeremoniellen Abgeltung der Initiation. Er überreicht seinem damaligen Betreuer eine breite Stirnbinde aus Nassa-Schnecken. Als Gegengabe erhält er Schweinefett.
    Kurzfassung: Accompanied by his relatives and friends a young man of sixteen has arrived for a visit from the neighbouring valley to Munggona, where he has been initiated a short time ago. The purpose of this visit therefore implies the ceremonial compensation for the initiation. As a gift the young man hands over a broad forehead band covered with thin slices of the shells of Nassa-snails to the man who had taken care of him during his initiation. As a return present he gets some pig's fat.

    Kurzfassung: In einer 0,5 m tiefen Grube von 1 m Durchmesser werden im Dorf Tefarerii (Huahine) Lavasteine erhitzt. Auf die glühenden Steine legt man Blätter. Ein Schwein wird geschlachtet, enthaart, ausgenommen, gereinigt und mit verschiedenen Gemüsen auf die Blätter gelegt. Das Ganze wird mit Blättern und Erde zugedeckt und ca. 2 Stunden gedämpft.
    Kurzfassung: In the village Tefarerii lava stones are heated in a pit (diameter 1m, depth 0,5 m). The glowing stones are covered with leaves. A pig is slaughtered, gutted and cleaned and layed on the leaves together with different vegetables. The whole thing is covered with leaves and earth and stewed for about 2 hours.

    Kurzfassung: In der Nähe der Männerhäuser im Weiler Imarin (Malingdam) helfen viele bei dem Umbau eines Familienhauses. Auf dem Versammlungsplatz der Männer werden auch andere Arbeiten verrichtet: Weben eines Stirnbandes, Schnitzen einer Pfeilspitze usw. Plötzlich fängt ein Haus an zu brennen. Der Brand wird gelöscht, der Schaden gleich behoben.
    Kurzfassung: Near the men's house of the hamlet of Imarin a lot of people help in the rebuilding of a family house. On the meeting place of men different kinds of work are done: weaving a forehead band, carving an arrow tip, etc. Suddenly a house has caught fire. The flames are put out, the damage is immediately repaired.

    Kurzfassung: Citizens of the market town go in masks and old-fashioned female clothing through the village, carrying with them big drums and pot-lids. They visit public institutions (e. g. school, town hall), traders, people of rank and - above all - inns. One culmination points is the admission of new members.     Kurzfassung: Zur festlichen Einweihung eines neuerbauten Gemeinschaftswohnhauses (Maloka) am Rio Pirá-Paraná schmücken sich seine Bewohner zusammen mit den Gästen besonders durch Körperbemalung und Anlegen von Federschmuck. Das Fest wird mit Tänzen, Gesängen, Musik und Rezitation der Schöpfungsmythen begangen, bei Einnahme halluzinogener Drogen. Eine Rassellanze dient zur Anrufung hilfreicher Geister.
    Kurzfassung: For the indians of Vaupés the Maloka is not only a house but a symbol of the cosmos. For this reason the inauguration of a Maloka is celebrated by a great festival, at which the participants wear precious feather ornaments. The film shows men and women decorating themselves for the dance festival. Different dances are performed inside the Maloka and in the open air. Under the influence of hallucinogene drugs the men recite the old myths of creation. A shaman appears upon the scene with a rattle lance. The festival is accompanied by the music of the syrinx and by the ritual chants.

    Kurzfassung: Auf einer mit Drehkreuz versehenen Töpferscheibe stellt eine Frau aus einer Mischung aus rotem und schwarzem Ton, die sie in einer Grube vor dem Haus aufbereitet, verschiedene Krüge mit Henkeln und Tüllen her. Der Aufbau der Krüge erfolgt auf gezogenen Böden in Spiralwulsttechnik. Die Tüllen werden von einer anderen Frau angefertigt.
    Kurzfassung: On a pottery wheel equipped with a star wheel, a woman is making different jugs with handles and spouts from a mixture of red and black clay, which she has prepared in a pit in front of her house. The fabrication of the jugs takes place on a drawn bottom using the spiral roll technique. The spouts are prepared by another woman.

Zwischendurch Nahrungszubereitung im Erdofen. Anschließend Pflanzen von Zuckerrohr und Süßkartoffelstecklingen.
    Kurzfassung: In the garden area of Kwarelala village a fallow ground is prepared for planting by a group of 30 persons: cutting the secondary vegetation, uncovering the old terraces, deppening the ditches, covering the plots with earth and mud, cutting off and burning branches (tools used: digging-stick, bush knives, transverse stone axes). Meanwhile preparation of food in an earth oven. Then planting of sugar cane and sweet potato shoots. The work requires 9 days from 8 to 9 and 15 to 16.

    Kurzfassung: Wegen unwegsamen Geländes kann die Halmfrucht vom Brandacker nicht heimgeführt, sondern muß eingetragen werden. Diese als "Korntragen" bezeichnete Tätigkeit hat einen speziellen Ernteschlußbrauch hervorgebracht mit den Brauchelementen Mahl, Tanz und Maske. Den Höhepunkt des festlichen Abends bildet der Auftritt eines Maskentieres ("Habergeiß").
    Kurzfassung: Because of the rugged mountain country the harvested grain cannot be pulled home by carts, but must be carried by man power. This activity is called "Korntragen" ("carrying the grain"). Furthermore, it is accompanied by a peculiar harvest ritual with such specific ceremonial features as common meal, dances and the appearance of masked mythological beings. The culmination of this nocturnal feast is marked by the appearance of the "Habergeiß" (two persons carrying a goats' mask and other elements of this mythological animal).

    Kurzfassung: Auf der offenen Feuerstelle in einer Almhütte erhitzt die Bäuerin Milch in einem großen Kupferkessel, der an einem Schwenkarm hängt. Durch Zugabe von Labpulver und Salz wird die Milch zum Gerinnen gebracht. Nach Abschöpfen des Käsewassers wird die Käsemasse in eine Holzform gefüllt, festgedrückt und mit Steinen beschwert. Bevor die überstehenden Ränder des fertigen Käses abgeschnitten werden, wird er mit Salz eingerieben.
    Kurzfassung: On an Alpine farm in St. Magdalena (South Tyrol) the farmer's wife makes cheese: She pours milk into a large copper vessel hanging on a turning arm over the hearth and heats it. As rennet she uses a powder mixed water and a pinch of salt. She stirs the milk continuously and watches the temperature. At 40-50°C she adds two thirds of the rennet and reduces the heat. After a certain time she breaks the curdled milk with a whisk and adds the remaining rennet. Finally she skims the whey and packs the curd into the mould, placing on the lid stones to press the cheese. - Salt is rubbed into the surfaces of the shaped young cheese, overlapping edges are cut, and the cheese is stored in a cheese-room.

    Kurzfassung: Approximately 500 different vessels are fired in a rented, rectangular kiln without a roof. Loading the oven is work for men. Firing is performed with broom twigs. The hot cinders and the ashes are poured into the firing chamber. Firing time, approximately 5 hours. The earthenware is removed from the kiln on the following day.

The potatoes are deposited in the open furrow following the plough and covered by the next furrow slice. Finally the ground is smoothed with a hoe. The work is done uphill.

    Kurzfassung: In seiner alten, wassergetriebenen Hammerschmiede (mit oberschlächtigem Wasserrad) in Bienno (Provinz Brescia) stellt der 47jährige Schmied Comensoli mit einem Gehilfen am Tag etwa 80 Spaten aus Alteisen in Serienproduktion her. Zum Formen benutzen sie einen preßluft- und einen wassergetriebenen Fallhammer. Die endgültige Form (nach Verkaufsgebiet verschieden) entsteht durch Pressen, Stanzen und Schleifen. Anschließend werden die Spaten gebündelt.
    Kurzfassung: At his old water-driven hammer forge (overshot water wheel) at Bienno (Brescia Province) the 47-year-old smith Comensoli makes with his assistant spades from scrap-iron. They produce in series 80 spades per day. The iron is moulded by a compressed air hammer and by a drop hammer driven by water power. The final shaping (varying according to the selling territory) is is done by pressing, punching, and grinding. The finished spades are tied in bundles for delivery.

    Kurzfassung: Ein Mädchen, schon in Tanzkleidung, legt seiner kleinen Schwester den Perlenschmuck an (Schnur, Kette, Kragen, Latz, Hüfttücher, Gürtel usw.). Danach tanzen die beiden Mädchen mit einem Mann vor der Kamera in einer Linie einen typischen Stampftanz. Die Zuschauer klatschen und singen dazu. Der mit Ton versehene Abschnitt des Films beginnt nach etwa 3 min Vorführdauer.

    Kurzfassung: Die Flechterin ordnet rote, schwarze und naturfarbene Rindenbaststreifen in der gewünschten Farbfolge. Die Haube wird dann als fortlaufende Bahn in Diagonalgeflecht hergestellt. Das fertige Geflecht wird in der Mitte gefaltet und an einer Längsseite mit gezwirntem Bastfaden zu einer Kapuze zusammengenäht.
    Kurzfassung: With the help of two sticks, the plaitress arranges red, black and naturally coloured stripes of bast in the desired colour sequence. Then, the hood is produced as a continuous piece in diagonal plaiting. From bands of various colours, longitudinal and diagonal stripes are formed in the pattern. The plaiting being finished, the piece is fold in the middle and sewn, in order to form a hood, along one longitudinal rim with a twisted thread of bast.

    Kurzfassung: Auf das kurz gehaltene Haar einer jungen verheirateten Frau setzt eine ältere eine kleine, baskenmützenähnliche rote Kopfbedeckung und heftet sie mit einfachen Nähstichen am Kopfhaar fest. Anschließend wird ein schmales Perlenband am Haaransatz, etwa 3-4 cm vom Hutrand entfernt, festgemacht. Zur Überbrückung des Zwischenstreifens benutzt man ein achtreihiges Perlenband, das bis zum Lederrock der Frau herabreicht.
    Kurzfassung: An aged woman puts upon the very short hair of a young married woman a rather small beret-like cap and fastens it with several stitches. A narrow band of beads is attached 2-3 cm from the cap to the head-line, and the space between is covered by a band of eight rows of beads, which runs down to the woman's leather skirt.

    Kurzfassung: In the center of Bad Aussee appear in the afternoon of Shrove tuesday among other masked persons the "Pleß". These are youths dressed in old, worn clothes, carrying sticks with rags tied on to them. They dip these rags in puddles and run after other young people with them, who in their turn throw snowballs and pieces of ice, shouting "Pleß, Pleß". Therefore the "Pleß" have protected their heads with "helmets", consisting of beehive, boothheads or washing powder boxes.

It depicts the events the day before and the main day of performance that is thursday before carneval sunday. The performance takes place on the market square, on the streets, and in the courtbuilding.

    Kurzfassung: An kleinen, mit einer Dubliermaschine zusammengedrillten Drahtstücken befestigt eine Frau Spiegel und Perlen. Aus diesen "Sträußchen" sowie aus Schleifen entstehen 18 "Bäumle", die an einem mit Stoff überzogenen und verzierten Pappring aufrecht stehend befestigt werden. Zuletzt bringt die Frau lange Bänder an und legt die fertige Krone in eine Schachtel.
    Kurzfassung: The film summarizes the making of a bridal crown, a procedure which lasts about 3 days. At first, bay means of a doubling machine, small filaments are twisted together and mirrors and various pearls are fixed onto these "stalks". A number of small "summer nosegaies", consisting of these pearl bouquets and knots, are fixed and tied together on the ornamented cardboard ring, which is already covered with fabrics. Finally long ribbons are added, falling down over the back.

    Kurzfassung: An den Vorabenden des Nikolaustages geht eine Gruppe bestehend aus dem hl. Nikolaus, einer zweiten Nikolausfigur, einer Figur mit Tierkopfmaske (dem Klausenbigger) und einer Figur in Fellgewand (dem Rubelz) von Haus zu Haus. Der hl. Nikolaus sagt einen Spruch auf, der Nikolausbegleiter beschenkt die Kinder und der Rubelz droht ihnen. Der Klausenbigger hat keine aktive Funktion.
    Kurzfassung: On the eve of St. Nicholas day (December 6th) a group of mummed young men goes from house to house. The group consists of St. Nicholas, a second Nicholas figure, a figure with an animal mask (the Klausenbigger, which lent the custom its name), and a figure with fur clothing, the so-called Rubelz. In the individual houses parents and children await together the group's visit. Saint Nicholas utters a rhymed saying and then checks to see if the children have learned their prayers and songs. St. Nicholas' companion gives the children sweets, apples, and nuts and leave a switch behind. The Rubelz threatens to tie disobedient children onto his chain. During the visit the Klausenbigger has no active function. In the end, the four masked figures visit a restaurant.

    Kurzfassung: A group of 24 men dig holes on the plantation Yessomari has cleared northwest of the village of Meno in the Washkuk Hills. Later his wives and other women bring the yam seedlings, including intact tubers of the local kou type (Dioscorea esculenta). The planter sprinkles the latter with a secret, watery solution and inserts them in the holes, always observing certain rules of conduct. Cut-up nein tubers are planted without ceremonial activity. One of the times women from Yessomari's household go to the plantation is to harvest the early vegetables and to weed. The first yam tubers can be harvested on the luxuriantly overgrown plantation after eight months.

    Kurzfassung: Kurze Straßenszenen im Zentrum des Marktes Bad Aussee am Nachmittag des Faschingsdienstages mit den Maskengestalten "Pleß". Scientific film document shot on Shrove tuesday 1977.
    Kurzfassung: In the center of Bad Aussee appear in the afternoon of Shrove tuesday among other masked persons the "Pleß". These are youths dressed in old, worn clothes, carrying sticks with rags tied on to them. They dip these rags in puddles and run after other young people with them, who in their turn throw snowballs and pieces of ice, shouting "Pleß, Pleß". Therefore the "Pleß" have protected their heads with "helmets", consisting of beehive, boothheads or washing powder boxes.
