Abstract: "Lean UX has become the preferred approach to interaction design, tailor-made for today's agile teams. In the second edition of this award winning book, leading advocates Jeff Gothelf and Josh Seiden expand on the valuable Lean UX principles, tactics, and techniques covered in the first edition to share how product teams can easily incorporate design, experimentation, iteration, and continuous learning from real users into their Agile process. Inspired by Lean and Agile development theories, Lean UX lets you focus on the actual experience being designed, rather than deliverables. This book shows you how to collaborate closely with other members of your Agile product team, and gather feedback early and often. You'll learn how to drive the design in short, iterative cycles to assess what works best for the business and the user. Lean UX shows you how to make this change, for the better."--Resource description page.

Abstract: Neural networks are at the very core of deep learning. They are versatile, powerful, and scalable, making them ideal to tackle large and highly complex Machine Learning tasks, such as classifying billions of images (e.g., Google Images), powering speech recognition services (e.g., Apple's Siri), recommending the best videos to watch to hundreds of millions of users every day (e.g., YouTube), or learning to beat the world champion at the game of Go by examining millions of past games and then playing against itself (DeepMind's AlphaGo). This lesson introduces artificial neural networks, starting with a quick tour of the very first ANN architectures, then covering topics such as training neural nets, recurrent neural networks, and reinforcement learning. This lesson will clarify what neural networks are and why you may want to use them.

Abstract: Mentors are commonly assigned to junior members of a team, such as new hires straight out of school or student interns. Many organizations use mentors as part of their onboarding process for all new hires. Sometimes the mentor is another junior person on the team, perhaps herself only a year or two into the organization; someone who can still clearly remember the onboarding or internship process herself, and can closely relate to the new person. Other times the mentor is a senior engineer who can act as a technical mentor in addition to helping the new hire get up to speed on the process. In a healthy organization, this onboarding mentorship role is used as an opportunity for both parties. The mentor gets the chance to see what it is like to have responsibility for another person, and the mentee gets an overseer who is focused on him alone, without other reports clamoring for his mentor's attention.

Abstract: It may seem odd to consider company culture when talking about network automation, but like anyone else in your organization, network engineers want to work with like-minded people who care what they do and how they do it. Culture is about optimizing a human system and improving communication so that all three aspects of your DevOps environment-tools, processes, and people-work in harmony. This lesson shows you how to assess your team and its place in the organization. You'll also learn how to "embrace failure" by having a game plan for learning from failure when it does happen, and discover how to enhance your personal skills and education on the job.

Abstract: Part of your focus throughout this period of adjustment to management is to figure out your own management style. Many of you will be learning how to manage individuals while simultaneously being responsible for running a team. In the lesson, we'll talk about the challenges of dealing with the team as a whole, as well as how the technical side of your role might be changing, but it's important to start by considering the individuals. After all, your team is only as healthy as its individuals, and as the individual manager, you'll have a huge impact on each person.

Abstract: Unfortunately, making decisions is not as simple as you saying "yes" or "no" to your team. Unlike most other compilations of English words, the complexity of software mandates that it is the creation of a group, and therefore it is a reflection of the decisions that the group makes. In some cases a Big Boss can dictate decisions. Unluckily, you are not the Big Boss, and you must enable your team to find ways to say no to the things they love. Here's how to get the job done.

Abstract: DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) have emerged in recent years as solutions for managing operations in IT and software development. Is one method better than the other? Will one of them eventually win out? This article explains why these two disciplines-in both practice and philosophy-are much more alike than you may think. Humans have been thinking about better ways to operate things for millennia, but despite all of this effort and thought, running enterprise software operations well remains elusive for many organizations. In this article, IT operations experts provide the key tenets of DevOps and SRE, compare and contrast the two, and explain the incentives necessary to successfully adopt either approach.

Abstract: Some companies think that adopting DevOps means bringing in specialists or a host of new tools, yet DevOps is a professional and cultural movement that calls for change from inside your organization. In this lesson, you'll explore the current ecosystem of tools for software development, automation, system provisioning, test and build, and monitoring that are useful in a DevOps environment. You'll learn why it's important to select tools that will benefit your organization as a whole and not just a subset of teams. From server installation automation to infrastructure configuration and automation, the tools you choose should enhance-but not replace-the interpersonal and cultural aspects of your environment.

Abstract: "InnerSource is a software development methodology that applies the lessons learned from decades of open source software development to the concerns of tech leads and developers working inside proprietary organizations. In this introductory level course, InnerSource experts Danese Cooper and Russell Rutledge draw on their own experiences at companies like PayPal, Nike, and more to describe how InnerSource methods solve real world issues. How do I get teams located in far flung locations, possibly speaking different languages, and using different tools to work together effectively? How do I teach teams to contribute code without disrupting each other's workflow? How can I encourage developers in one business unit to incorporate functionality in their products using features developed by a competing business unit? These are just a few of the concerns InnerSource can address. By the end of this course, you'll have a firm understanding of InnerSource's key practices (collaboration, transparency, and mentorship) and a solid grasp of how you can use them to transform your own team from average to excellent."--Resource description page.

Abstract: "Recommendation systems are a class of machine learning models with many applications. The idea behind recommendation systems is simple: filtering information to suggest items (anything from clothes to films) to users with the predicted probability that the users will enjoy such items. This course provides an introduction to recommendation systems. It starts by looking at the applications for these systems with a focus on the big companies whose fortune is built upon them. It then goes through a discussion of the different types of recommendation systems and how to implement them. We'll use ModelDB to capture the appropriate metrics that help you identify poorly performing models. We'll review the many factors that affect model performance (i.e., changing users and user preferences, stale data, etc.) and the variables that lose predictive power. We'll explain how to utilize classification and prediction scoring methods such as precision recall, ROC, and jaccard similarity. We'll also show you how ModelDB allows you to track provenance and metrics for model performance and health; how to integrate ModelDB with SparkML; and how to use the ModelDB APIs to store information when training models in Spark ML. Learners should have basic familiarity with the following: Scala or Python; Hadoop, Spark, or Pandas; SBT or Maven; cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services; Bash, Docker, and REST."--Resource description page.

Abstract: "Reactive and asynchronous applications are growing in popularity, but what is the best way to build them? This course teaches you how to apply the latest concurrency techniques to develop state of the art Java applications. With the rise of microservices and service oriented architectures (SOAs), asynchronous concurrency is now critical to day-to-day Java development. This video builds on the theory offered in the associated 'Asynchronous Programming in Java' course by refactoring several Java projects using Actors in Akka. From there, it explains the concepts behind the actor model, how the Akka toolkit compares with other concurrency concepts, and how to use the Akka API."--Resource description page.

Abstract: "Modern applications running in the cloud often rely on REST-based microservices architectures by using Docker containers. Docker enables your applications to communicate between one another and to compose and scale various components. Data scientists use these techniques to efficiently scale their machine learning models to production applications. This video teaches you how to deploy machine learning models behind a REST API, to serve low latency requests from applications, without using a Spark cluster. In the process, you'll learn how to export models trained in SparkML; how to work with Docker, a convenient way to build, deploy, and ship application code for microservices; and how a model scoring service should support single on-demand predictions and bulk predictions. Learners should have basic familiarity with the following: Scala or Python; Hadoop, Spark, or Pandas; SBT or Maven; cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services; Bash, Docker, and REST."--Resource description page.

Abstract: "Templates are a fundamental feature of modern C++ programming. Designed for the beginner to intermediate level C++ programmer, this course explains why templates are important and how to use them. Expert programmer, Julian Templeman, starts with a description of the concept behind templates and shows you how they solve the problem of writing functions and classes that differ only in their parameter types. He then demonstrates how you use template functions to create functions that will work with a variety of parameter types and how to use them in code. Then, he shows you how to create and use template classes, parameterized types that are commonly used for containers such as vector and list. The course finishes off with a discussion of how the compiler processes templates and what this means in terms of how code is compiled and linked."--Resource description page.

Abstract: "Vim is a great editor, but it's certainly not perfect. Even though it has a huge range of built-in tools and commands, it's always missing one or two crucial features. Unfortunately, which crucial features are missing--and how they should be provided--is different for just about every single Vim user. Fortunately, Vim provides a way for every single Vim user to modify, enhance, and extend Vim to suit themselves via its built-in scripting language. Developers are only as good as their tools and the most fundamental tool developers have is their editor. Designed for the advanced beginner- to intermediate-level developer with some Vim scripting experience, this course teaches you how to script Vim to make it much more powerful and vastly easier to use."--Resource description page.
