    Abstract: Anlaß der in den Filmen E 2201 und E 2202 wiedergegebenen Zeremonie war der erste Europa-Besuch des Dalai Lama am 9. Oktober 1973 in Rikon/Schweiz. Die Gläubigen bitten den Dalai Lama "fest zu verweilen", d. h. lange zu leben und sich auch nach seiner gegenwärtigen Existenz immer wieder neu zu verkörpern, bis alle Lebewesen vom Leid erlöst sind.
    Abstract: The film, composed of two parts (E 2201 and E 2202), presents the greater part of a ceremony held on 9th October 1973 in a big camp at Rikon (Switzerland) on the occasion of the Dalai Lama's first visit to Europe. At this ceremony hundreds of faithful entreat "perpetual presence" of the Dalai Lama, i. e. that he may live long and return to our world, after the extinction of his actual existence, in successive incarnations, until all beings are delivered from suffering.

    Abstract: The film is a document of the Dalai Lama's farewell-visit to the Tibetan Monastic Institute at the end of his first trip to Europe in October 1973. The film shows the arrival and the departure of the Dalai Lama, an excerpt from a ceremony of confession conducted by the Dalai Lama, and scenes from the ceremony "perpetual presence", in which the Dalai Lama is ritually entreated to live long and to return to the world in successice incarnations.

    Abstract: Ein zehnjähriger Tänzer tanzt im heiligsten Teil des Familientempels der traditionellen Fürsten von Saba den solistischen Baris ngelémbar, wobei er einen jungen Ritter verkörpert, der in den Krieg zieht. Der Tänzer steht in ständiger Kommunikation mit den beiden Trommlern, die als Koordinatoren zwischen Tanz und Musik sowie als Leiter des Orchesters fungieren.
    Abstract: In the most sacred part of the family temple of the traditional Princes of Saba a ten-year-old dancer performs the solo dance baris ngelémbar, representing a young knight going to the war. There is a permanent communication between the dancer and the two drummers coordinating dance and music and conducting the orchestra.

    Abstract: Dancing of the witches' apprentices Sisya, who are preparing the performance of their mistress, Rangda. Then the widely feared Rangda, who learned her dark science from the Durga, the Goddess of death, dances her macabre dance, which sows pestilence and death.

    Abstract: Der Teig des Kommunionbrotes wird aus Weizenmehl, Salz, Wasser und Sauerteig zubereitet. Man wickelt ihn in ein Tuch und läßt ihn mehrere Stunden liegen. Nach der Gärung entfernt man die Kruste, formt die Brote und markiert sie mit einem Stempel. Anschließend werden die Brote gebacken. An den Arbeiten waren mehrere Männer an verschiedenen Orten beteiligt.
    Abstract: The liturgical ceremonies are of great importance within the Syrian Orthodox Church. They enabled the faithful to abide by their Christian faith even in times of oppression. Though the making of eucharist bread is not an essential part of Christian faith, it is of high symbolical value and occupies an important position in the spiritual and liturgical tradition of the Orient. The dough is made from flour, salt, water and leaven.

    Abstract: Zunächst wird das Prinzip der alternierenden Figuration (vgl. E 2163) am Beispiel der auf individuelle Spieler verteilten Gongs und Bambus-Schüttelidiophone Angklung erklärt. Nach diesen analytischen Aufnahmen spielt das vollständige Angklung-Orchester eine Prozessionsmusik sowie, um Metallophone erweitert, ein rituelles Eröffnungsstück.
    Abstract: Initially, the principle of alternating figuration (cf. E 2163) is explained using the gongs, which are distributed among the individual musicians, and the shaken bamboo idiophone exemplarily. After these analytical recordings, the complete Angklung Orchestra plays a piece of processional music and, having been supplemented with a metallophone a ritual opening piece.

    Abstract: The duels with shields accompanied by ritual music (cf. E 2167), as they are performed in Tenganan once annually on three consecutive days in front of the houses of the Young Men's' Society. The pairings are formed on an ad hoc basis. The objective of the duels is not the announced victory, but rather the endurance of a test of courage linked with the tactical outwitting of one's opponent.

Dort binden die Hirten die von der Herde getrennten Muttertiere in doppelten Reihen mit einem Seil fest. Sie werden von den Frauen gemolken. Gegen Abend werden die Tiere erneut auf die Weide getrieben.
    Abstract: Mixed herds of fat-tail sheep and Angora goats are driven by shepherds early in the morning from their nocturnal grazing grounds to the settlement, watered, and taken to the farms. There the ewes are seperated from the herd, tethered by the shepherds in double rows, and milked by the women. In the evening the beasts are driven back to pasture.

    Abstract: The film shows two Brahmin brothers preparing the hashish drink bhang in the ritually fixed way. Leaves of Indian hemp (Cannabis), dried in the open air, are pounded in a stone mortar, with an admixture of water and seasonings, into a thick paste. Sugar is added and the paste is dissolved in water. The finished drink is worshipped with forms of prayer (mantra) and hand gestures (mudra). A part of the drink is given as an offering to a group of initiated Brahman boys. In an appendix the mudras are presented once more in detail.

    Abstract: Ali Beidun, Besitzer eines Familienbetriebes in Qualmun, zeigt die einfachste Form der Ornamentierung eines kupfernen Schmucktellers vor der Kamera: Aufzeichnung der geometrischen Formen, Punzen und Ziselieren, Schreiben und Punzen dreier Wörter in arabischer Schrift. Als Abgrenzung des künstlerischen Feldes wird ein Schlußkreis auf dem Kupferteller gezogen. Diese Handwerkstechnik ist relativ neu im Libanon und zeigt arabisch-moslemischen Einfluß auf die einheimische Handwerkskultur.
    Abstract: The film shows the decoration of a copper smth Ali Beidun in his workshop. The work is carried out in four stages: drawing the geometrical forms, punching and chasing, writing and chasing three words in Arabic, cutting a circle to limit the artistic field. This form of craftmanship is comparatively new in Lebanon and shows the Arabian-Moslem influence upon Lebanese handicraft.

    Abstract: In Bögrüdelik, einer Siedlung muslimischer Flüchtlinge (Muhacir) aus Rußland, wird eine Kuh von der Bäuerin gemolken. Mit einer Handzentrifuge wird der Rahm gewonnen, welcher während einer Woche gesammelt und anschließend in einem hölzernen Stoßbutterfaß zu Butter verarbeitet wird.
    Abstract: The weather-dependent, insecure yields from the dry-farming of cereals are supplemented by the produce of animal husbandry in Central Anatolia. Apart from sizeable sheep- and goathers 1 to 5 waterbuffalo or cows are kept per household as work animals and for the production of milk and butter. The film shows a cow with a calf being milked by a woman in the yard of a farm. With a separator driven by hand cream is produced, collected during a week and finally worked into butter in a wooden churn with a pestle. The film was taken in a village of muslim emigrants (muhacir) from Russia. These westsiberian Tatars of Uzbek origin (buharist), settled in Turkey in the early 20th century, do however not differ in their economic activities from the "native" Turks (yerli).

    Abstract: In Bögrüdelik, einer Siedlung muslimischer Flüchtlinge (Muhacir) aus Rußland, wird in Gemeinschaftsarbeit Gerste aus dem Speicher geholt, am Brunnen gewaschen und anschließend von den Frauen verschiedener verwandter Familien gemeinsam mit großen Holzhämmern in einem Steinmörser gestampft. Nach dem Trocknen wird die Gerste geworfelt.
    Abstract: The film was taken in a settlement of muslim emigrants (muhacir) from Western Siberia. These Westsiberian Tatars of Uzbek origin (buharist) fled from the regions of Omsk and Tobolsk and were settled in the Vilâyet of Konya at the beginning of the 20th century. They have adopted the agricultural economy of their neighbours, the "native" Turks and Kurds (yerli), mainly mechanised dry farming of wheat, sheep and cattle husbandry and small-scale vegetable gardening. Contrary to the Turkish and Kurdish population, the Westsiberian Tatars plant barley not only as fodder but also for the use in a traditional soup (üre(y)) for important festivities (wakes, marriages). The film shows how barley is fetched from the storage rooms, washed in the fountain and pounded by several women from related families with big wooden mallets in a stone mortar. After drying the barley is winnowed to separate the grains from their skins removed by the previous pounding.

    Abstract: The film shows scenes from the daily life of upper and lower social groups in the village of jitvarpur as well as the different artistic activities of Brahmin and of Harijan women. The film consists of extracts from different monographic films made in the village and presents a cross section of these films, an impressionistic succession of contrasted scenes.

    Abstract: Auf einem mittels einer rituellen Bodenzeichnung und Absteckung markierten Kultplatz im Innenhof seines Gehöftes führt der Hausherr unter Anleitung eines Brahmanen-Priesters eine Zeremonie zu Ehren der Gottheit Vishnu-Satyanarayan durch.
    Abstract: The rite shown in the film is performed in honour of the god Vishnu. The performance takes place in the courtyard of a Brahmin homestead, where a painting has been made on the ground to serve as an altar. Branches and garlands enclose the place of the ritual. The most important cult objects are a vase (kalasa) and a salagrama stone symbolizing the god Vishnu. Special locations are prepared for these objects: a platform of sand decorated with a ritual yantra painting for the cult vase and a board placed in the centre of painting altar for the brass vessel supporting the salagrama stone. The cult objects (upachara) are worshipped with specific materials fixed in number and in form: e. g. water, sandlewood, incense, floweers and leaves, essences, graines of rice, oil lamps, and gifts of food. The ritual is conducted by the priest, who gives instructions and recites texts. The ceremony being over, the gifts of food are divided among the participants.

    Abstract: In Bögrüdelik, einer Siedlung muslimischer Flüchtlinge (Muhacir) aus Rußland, werden die am Vormittag von der Weide zurückkehrenden Herden aufgeteilt und in die Höfe der Besitzer getrieben. Dann werden die Mutterschafe einzeln herausgelassen, vom Bauern vor der Stalltür festgehalten und von einer Frau gemolken. Gegen Abend werden die Schafe getränkt und von den Hirten über Nacht auf die Weiden geführt.
    Abstract: Dry-farming of wheat is the main economy of the semiarid Anatolian plateau. Due to the often insufficient precipitations the cereal production is irregular and has to be supplemented by the produce of sheep-breeding which is less influenced by the weather. The film shows the watering and milking of the sheep after they returned from their pastures in the morning. The herds are divided and the animals driven to the farms of their owners where they are put into stables. One by one the ewes leave the stable, are caught and held by the farmer and milked by his wife. In the evening the sheep are led back to the large village fountain, where they are watered and finally driven out to their nocturnal grazing grounds by the shepherds. The film was taken in a village of muslim emigrants (muhacir) from Russia. These westsiberian Tatars of Uzbek origin (buharist), settled in Turkey in the early 20th century, do however not differ in their economic activities from the "native" Turks (yerli).

    Abstract: Aus dem rituellen Musikrepertoire des sakralen Eisenplatten-Orchesters werden zwei Stücke herausgegriffen, bei denen sowohl in der Stützmelodie als auch in der Figuration heptatonische Passagen auftreten, die von der im allgemeinen pentatonischen Musik abweichen. Zur Erleichterung der Analyse der komplexen Figurationen und der Spielweise wurden einzelne Instrumentalparts auch gesondert gefilmt (vgl. E 2167).

    Abstract: Das Prinzip des alternierenden Figurationsspiels hat für die balinesische Musik besondere Bedeutung. Ein Figurationselement wird dabei in rhythmische modellhafte Formeln aufgelöst, die jede durch einen besonderen Spieler ausgeführt und sozusagen nahtlos ineinandergewoben werden. Gegenstand des Films ist die am Reistrog praktizierte Oncangan-Rhythmik sowie ihre Übertragung auf abgestimmte Instrumente: Schlitztrommeln, Maultrommeln sowie Angklung-Orchester.
    Abstract: The principle of alternating figuration playing has a special meaning for Balinese music. In this context, a figuration element is broken into exemplary rhythmic formulas, each of which is performed by a special player and are woven perfectly smoothly into one another, as it were. The subject of the film is the Oncangan rhythmic practised on rice trough as well as their transference to matched instruments: slotted drums, Jews' harps, as well as Angklung orchestra.

Die auf einfachen Eisentasteninstrumenten gespielte Ritualmusik wird von Musikspezialisten allmonatlich zu festgelegten Kultzeiten aufgeführt. Zur Erleichterung der Analyse der komplexen Figurationen und der Spielweise wurden einzelne Instrumentalparts auch gesondert gefilmt (vgl. E 2237).
    Abstract: The film gives a general view of the structure and manner of playing of representative pieces of ritual music of the old Balinese village of Tenganan Pegeringsingan. The performers are musical specialists (jurugambel), nominated by the village, who play in specific combinations of the sacred iron plate orchestra selonding. In order to facilitate the analysis of the complex figuration and of the manner of playing, different instrumental parts were also filmed separately.
