    Kurzfassung: "This book examines the contributions of seventeenth and eighteenth-century French women philosophers and intellectuals to moralist writing. Moralist writing, a distinctively French genre, draws on philosophical and literary traditions extending back to classical antiquity. Closely connected to salon culture and influenced by Augustinianism, it engages social and political questions, epistemology, moral psychology, and virtue ethics. The first half of the book analyses women's use of moralist forms such as the essay, maxim, and "character" or portrait to explore classical topics: self-knowledge and knowledge of the self, the ethics and obligations of friendship, the relation of the passions to happiness. The second half focuses on topics that relate directly to women's lifeworld: the critique of the institution of marriage, the status of older women, and the question of women's nature and capabilities. Each chapter traces the evolution of women's moralist thought from the late seventeenth century to the Enlightenment and the decades immediately following the French Revolution, a period of tremendous change in the horizon of possibilities for women as public figures and intellectuals"--

Amadou Amal bricht Tabus, indem sie nicht nur die Lage der Frauen in der Sahelzone anprangert, sondern ihre starke Stimme gegen das universelle Problem der Gewalt gegen Frauen erhebt. Para dar a conocer la odisea de estos 15.000 exiliados, este estudio propone un viaje a través de las escrituras del yo de los que la vivieron en primera persona. En este recorrido, que abarca desde 1939, con el análisis de los diarios redactados en los campos de concentración en los que se vieron internados, hasta 2016, haciendo lo propio con las memorias de los –entonces– niños del exilio, se examinan las articulaciones identitarias de los autores en su llamamiento a que (les) recordemos (y) que “escriben, luego son”

    Kurzfassung: Olympe de Gouges war eine der bedeutendsten Frauen der Französischen Revolution, eine Vorkämpferin für Frauenrechte. Ihre Erklärung der Rechte der Frau und Bürgerin (droits de la femme et de la citoyenne) von 1791, gedacht als notwendiges Gegenstück zu den Menschenrechten (?droits de l?homme?), gilt als Gründungsurkunde des Feminismus. Sie schrieb ausserdem Pamphlete gegen Sklaverei und Rassismus und forderte früh die Einrichtung von Frauenhäusern. Als Gegnerin der Jakobiner und erklärte Feindin Robespierres starb sie 1793 auf dem Schafott. Ihre wichtigsten Texte wurden für diese Ausgabe neu übersetzt und kommentiert. Margarete Stokowski erläutert in ihrem begleitenden Essay das Schicksal und den historischen Rang dieser mutigen Frau. (Verlagsinformation)

    Kurzfassung: La querella de las mujeres is the name by which the ignoble debate that has taken place in Europe over several centuries, in which the dignity of women and their intellectual and political capacity is questioned. La Querella publicly manifested itself in gatherings and generated an enormous number of writings around the value, the difference and the relations between both sexes. Women and men belonging to the most influential circles of the time, cultural and political, participated in various ways. Spain had a significant participation in the debate and shows that it is the European projection that some of the Spanish works of the moment reached. Here we investigate the presence and development of the Querella in the Iberian peninsula in the fifteenth century, through a detailed study of treaties in defense of women. Works that arise mainly in court environments with the clear intention to respond, to oppose, the misogynistic arguments that circulated in the context of the controversy.

They explore how two key stages in women’s lives-maternity and old age-are narrated and defined in fictions and autobiographical writings by contemporary French and francophone women. Through close readings of Maryse Condé, Hélène Cixous, Zahia Rahmani, Linda Lê, Pierrette Fleutieux, and Michèle Sarde, among others, these essays examine related topics such as dispossession, female friendship, and women’s relationships with their mothers.     Kurzfassung: The Book of the Order of Chivalry was written in Catalan by Ramon Llull between 1274 and 1276 and is one of the author's earliest works. After his death, it achieved a wide dissemination throughout Europe in part because it was considered the theoretical manual on knighthood par excellence. The book was written in Catalan for knights who might not have a knowledge of Latin. Llull devotes his treatise to the definition of the duties of a perfect knight. In addition, he is interested in delving into the religious and moral aspects of chivalry as well as in trying to reform this institution.This

    Kurzfassung: Main description: Kulturtheoretische Versuche, ein Zusammenleben in Frieden und Differenz programmatisch zu fassen, spielen im begonnenen 21. Jahrhundert eine entscheidende Rolle. Als aufschlussreich stellen sich hierbei die Konzepte der »Kreolisierung« und des »Tout-monde« des karibischen Romanciers Édouard Glissant oder die »Coolitude« des aus Mauritius stammenden Dichters Khal Torabully dar. Sie verweisen auf multiethnische Gesellschaften kolonialen Ursprungs und formulieren eine prominente - in Deutschland aber bislang kaum wahrgenommene - postkoloniale Kulturkritik der Globalisierung und Moderne. Die Beiträge in diesem Band, u.a. von Ottmar Ette, Françoise Vergès und Khal Torabully, prüfen die Anschlussfähigkeit von historischen und aktuellen Kreolisierungsprozessen für internationale und europäische Debatten.
    Kurzfassung: Biographical note: Gesine Müller (PD Dr.) lehrt Romanistik an der Universität Potsdam und leitet dort die Nachwuchsforschergruppe »Transkoloniale Karibik« (DFG). Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Karibikforschung, lateinamerikanische Gegenwartsliteraturen sowie Transferforschung. Natascha Ueckmann (PD Dr.) lehrt Romanistik an der Universität Bremen. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Karibik- und Diasporaforschung, Postkoloniale Literatur- und Kulturtheorien, Literatur und Film, Gender Studies sowie Reiseliteratur. This book represents the most comprehensive and empirically grounded analysis of the institutional and attitudinal factors that have shaped Panamanian politics since the invasion. Using quantitative and qualitative methods the book traces the development of the Panamanian nation-state from its early days after independence from Colombia, to the struggles to build democracy after the U.S. invasion, through the presidential elections of May 2009. Drawing from her many years of activism and anthropological scholarship, Marta Lamas has written four texts that present her work as a thinker and as an organizer: the political development of a wing of the movement, affirmative action in the workplace, conceptual advances in regards to gender, and disagreements among feminists. In regards to method, Lamas presents her reflections as a member of the feminist movement and pairs this history with her own theoretical analysis as a feminist anthropologist, keenly interested in social constructions of gender, sexuality and nation. The audience for the book would be a general feminist audience in addition to academic readers in anthropology, history, gender studies, sociology and Latin American studies"--

    Kurzfassung: The Cultures of Italian Migration allows the adjective 'Italian' to qualify people's movements along diverse trajectories and temporal dimensions. Discussions on migrations to and from Italy meet in that discursive space where critical concepts like 'home,' 'identity,' 'subjectivity,' and 'otherness' eschew stereotyping. This volume demonstrates that interpretations of old migrations are necessary in order to talk about contemporary Italy. New migrations trace new non linear paths in the definition of a multicultural Italy whose roots are unmistakably present throughout the centuries. Some of these essays concentrate on topics that are historically long-term, such as emigration from Italy to the Americas and southern Pacific Ocean. Others focus on the more contemporary phenomena of immigration to Italy from other parts of the world, including Africa. This collection ultimately offers an invitation to seek out new and different modes of analyzing the migratory act.
