    Abstract: The blacksmith hammers a blade out of a piece of hoopiron and burns the thorn of it into a wooden handle. The edge of the knife is then roughly sharpened with another hewing-knife, and then finely polished on a grindstone.

    Abstract: On a winder, the weaver spools the yarn on to a bobbin, which, turnable about a knockout spindle, is fixed in the shuttle. She fixes the warp beam in the frame of the loom, makes the treadle mechanism ready for use, puts on the weaver's girth, puts the separating roll into position, checks the shed-formation, and then begins weaving.

    Abstract: Thread from a wholly spun spindle is wound into a ball. The thread from the ball runs through a hollow bamboo stick which is held in the hand; then it is wound into a skein with the help of a double-T-shaped handreel. The skein is taken off the reel, starched in a solution of rice flour, and then strung between two poles to dry. When the skein is dry it is put on a reel and the thread is unwound into a basket. Six thread-beams are knocked into the ground and two women fix the warp.

    Abstract: A block of wood is hacked out of a tree-trunk and, by means of wedges, split into boards. The raw material is then brought home on a frame. The boards are fashioned into staves with the bush knife, hoops of rattan are fitted, and finally the bottom is cut out of a board and pressed into the tub.

Dann trägt sie das Negativmuster in Wachs mit Batikfeder auf und färbt den Stoff in Indigo blau. Nach Auskochen des Wachses legt sie das Tuch auf die Trockenstange.
    Abstract: A lattice pattern is pressed into the undyed cotton cloth, and then the negative of a pattern is drawn in wax with the batik pen. The cloth is then dyed blue in indigo, and the wax is finally melted out by boiling.

    Abstract: A smith prepares a silver plate by hammering, cutting, and filing. He then decorates the front by punching a geomtrical decoration. He thereupon bores a hole in each of the two upper corners and, adding a silver chain and a silver neck-ring, produces a pendant.

    Abstract: Der Dorfvorsteher von Doi Muse stellt aus einer 3,5 m langen Bambusstange Bauelemente her: Die Stange wird mit dem Haumesser durch Einschläge in die Knoten gespalten, dann der Länge nach aufgetrennt und zu einer Fläche ausgebreitet. Anschließend wird das Brett über zwei Balken zum Trocknen gelegt und mit einem Holzklotz beschwert.
    Abstract: A bamboo stalk is split with the hewing-knife by slashing open the knots. After this it is torn open lengthwise and spread out flat. The board is then laid to dry across two girders and weighted with a chunk of wood.
