    Abstract: Der Tagungsband thematisiert eine der innovativsten und einflussreichsten protestantischen Gruppen des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts. Die 1727 entstandene Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine entwickelte sich unter der Leitung des Reichsgrafen Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf (1700-1760) zu einem Avantgarde-Projekt des frühneuzeitlichen Protestantismus in Europa. Dazu trugen wesentlich das für andere Konfessionen offene Kirchenverständnis, die Relativierung von Standes- und Geschlechterdifferenzen, neue Frömmigkeitsformen und eine ausgeprägte regionale und internationale Mobilität bei. Der Band widmet sich der Geschichte und Wirkung der Herrnhuter Brüdergemeinde in Mittel-, Ost- und Nordeuropa sowie in Nord- und Südamerika in einer bisher nicht gekannten fachlichen Breite. Die 35 Aufsätze des Bands versammeln in sechs Sektionen neben Theologie und Geschichtswissenschaften auch Beiträge aus Fächern wie Linguistik, Naturgeschichte, historische Geographie, Architektur, Musikwissenschaft und Digital Humanities

    Abstract: Long description: Bei einer Bestattung sind es Dinge der materialen Kultur, die sorgsam aufbewahrt werden: Fotos, Kleidungsstücke, Briefe, Erinnerungsurnen oder -diamanten. Diese Artefakte haben für die Angehörigen die Bedeutung von Privat-Reliquien. Während die katholische Kirche in der kultischen Verehrung heiliger Überreste eine lange Tradition pflegt, kultiviert der Protestantismus diese Praxis nicht. In der spätmodernen Religions- und Bestattungspraxis fließen die konfessionellen Kontraste jedoch ineinander. Das Wiederaufkommen des Nahverhältnisses von Dingen und Menschen in der Sepulkralkultur signalisiert theologischen, religions- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Klärungsbedarf, dem sich die Beiträger_innen des Bandes verständigungsorientiert im interdisziplinären Diskurs annehmen
    Abstract: Biographical note: Thomas Klie (Dr. theol.), geb. 1956, ist Professor für Praktische Theologie an der Theologischen Fakultät an der Universität Rostock. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Pastoral- und Religionsästhetik, spätmoderne Religions- und Kasualkultur und Religionshybride, Performanztheorie und Sepulkralkultur. Jakob Kühn (Dipl. theol.), geb. 1988, ist wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter für Praktische Theologie an der Theologischen Fakultät an der Universität Rostock und promoviert zum Thema Kasualrede.     Abstract: "Postcolonialism refers not only to the historical epoch after the end of the colonial era, but also to a theoretical concept for the analysis of power relations. In German-speaking theology, this concept has so far received little attention. In the bilingual volume Postcolonialism, theology and the construction of the other, scholars of all theological disciplines, including religious studies, explore the heuristic possibilities that postcolonialism provides for their subject. In particular, the question is how "the other" is constructed as the counterpart of a "we." In times of global migration and growing right-wing extremism, theology must remain capable to offer answers to the urgent questions of the present.
    Abstract: Postkolonialismus bezeichnet nicht nur die historische Epoche nach dem Ende der Kolonialzeit, sondern auch ein theoretisches Konzept zur Analyse von Herrschaftsverhältnissen. In der deutschsprachigen Theologie wurde dieses Konzept bisher wenig beachtet. Im zweisprachigen Sammelband Postkolonialismus, Theologie und die Konstruktion des Anderen erkunden Vertreter aller theologischen Disziplinen einschließlich der Religionswissenschaft die heuristischen Möglichkeiten, die der Postkolonialismus für ihr Fach bietet. Es geht dabei insbesondere um die Frage, wie „der Andere“ als Gegenüber eines „Wir“ konstruiert wird. Gerade in Zeiten globaler Migration und erstarkenden Rechtsextremismus muss Theologie sprachfähig bleiben, um den drängenden Fragen der Gegenwart Antwortangebote bieten zu können.

    Abstract: Der gerechte Frieden steht für einen fundamentalen Wandel in der ethischen Praxis: Nicht mehr der Krieg, sondern der Frieden in seiner wechselseitigen Bezogenheit zur Gerechtigkeit bildet den Fokus des neuen Konzeptes. Dennoch bleibt auch für den gerechten Frieden die Frage der Anwendung von Waffengewalt von zentraler Bedeutung. Ines-Jacqueline Werkner zeigt: Der aktuelle Diskurs um die internationale Schutzverantwortung und der damit verbundene Zielkonflikt zwischen dem Schutz bedrohter Menschen und der angestrebten Gewaltfreiheit lassen Widersprüche und Kontroversen offen zutage treten. Auch die ökumenische Debatte um den gerechten Frieden ist in hohem Maße von kirchlichen Divergenzen geprägt.

    Abstract: Among the assumptions interrogated in this volume, edited by Anthony E. Clark, is if Christianity should most accurately be identified as “Chinese” when it displays vestiges of Chinese cultural aesthetics, or whether Chinese Christianity is more indigenous when it is allowed to form its own theological framework. In other words, can theological uniqueness also function as a legitimate Chinese Christian cultural expression in the formation of its own ecclesial identity? Also central to what is explored in this book is how missionary influences, consciously or unconsciously, introduced seeds of independence into the cultural ethos of China’s Christian community. Chinese girls who pushed “the limits of proper behaviour,” for example, added to the larger sense of confidence as China’s Christians began to resist the model of Christianity they had inherited from foreign missionaries.     Abstract: Bourdieu in Africa: Exploring the Dynamics of Religious Fields offers a view of religions as social games played by interested actors. Analyzing practices as strategic moves, this critical approach conceptualizes the religious field as relations of exchange and competition between experts and laity, and explores how the actors’ habitus, including religious beliefs, serve to misrecognize and thus legitimize relations of power within the religious sphere and beyond. The authors discuss the volatile religious fields of Nigeria, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya and South Africa, with their variably configured tensions between African traditions, Christianity and Islam, but also consider the interrelations of religion with other social fields, with politics, economy, education and law

    Abstract: This collection of essays explores the complex relations between Christians and Muslims at the dawn of the modern age. It begins by examining two seminal works by Nicholas of Cusa: De pace fidei, a dialogue seeking peace among world religions written after the conquest of Constantinople in 1453, and Cribratio Alkorani (1460-61), an attempt to confirm Gospel truths through a critical reading of the Qur'an. After considering Nicholas, his sources, and his context, the book explores a wider range of late medieval texts on Christian-Muslim relations-not only Christian writings about Islam but also Muslim responses to Christianity. The book's focus is historical, but it can also contribute to efforts at increasing Muslim-Christian understanding today

    Abstract: Sind antimuslimische Diskurse Ausdruck einer aktuellen Form des Rassismus? Anhand von Fallbeispielen - darunter auflagenstarke Buchpublikationen, Zeitungsartikel, Webseiten und Zuschriften an muslimische Verbände - geht Yasemin Shooman den antimuslimischen Narrativen und ihren Funktionen nach. Sie untersucht die artikulierten Selbst- und Fremdbilder ebenso wie die Rolle historischer Bezüge und arbeitet das Repertoire dominanter antimuslimischer Stereotype und Topoi heraus. Die empirische Analyse trägt auch zur Theoriebildung in dem relativ jungen Forschungsfeld bei und zeigt, dass eine Rassifizierung religiöser Zugehörigkeit zu beobachten ist, die auf dem Ineinandergreifen der Kategorien Kultur, Religion, Ethnizität, Geschlecht und Klasse basiert.

Dieser theologisch-interdisziplinäre Band will sich im Rahmen der Generationenforschung an dem zumeist sozialwissenschaftlich geführten Diskurs zum Thema beteiligen und theologische Argumente aus dem Schatz sowohl langer als auch aktueller Erfahrung zur Lösung der Probleme beitragen. Sozialethische, pastoralpsychologische, diakonische, religionspädagogische, biblisch-theologische und sozialwissenschaftliche Perspektiven auf dieses wichtige Zukunftsthema lassen die heutigen Probleme in verändertem Licht erscheinen. Die Probleme sind größer als etwa die Frage nach der Bezahlung der Renten, die Suche nach den Schuldigen führt nicht zum Ziel.Es zeigt sich, dass schnelle Lösungen ohne das Qualitätsmerkmal der Nachhaltigkeit neue Probleme erzeugen anstatt sie zu lösen. Plädiert wird für einen Lebensstil des Verzichtes auf manche materiellen Ansprüche zugunsten der jüngeren Generation und der globalen Welt, für die Abkehr von Grandiosität und Gedankenlosigkeit, für die Hinwendung zu einer Lebenskunst der gegenseitigen Anerkennung der Generationen, der loyalen Erbschaft und der Dankbarkeit. Theologisches Nachdenken hat die Liebe zum Leben als Gegenstand und Ausgangspunkt der Betrachtung.

    Abstract: The development of Early Christian rituals in connection with death and burial has so far not sufficiently been explored. Volp’s study focuses on the surviving literary sources—both pagan and Christian—, together with inscriptions and other archaeological remains while taking into account recent results from science and humanities. A summary of death and ritual in the ancient Mediterranean religions is followed by detailed analyses of the Christian sources from the 2nd to the 5th century. Thus, basic developments are being discovered which led to and accompanied the forming of Christian rituals, such as ritual purity or the social structure of family and society. Being the first such interdisciplinary approach, it also represents the first monographic work on the topic since 1941

    Abstract: Religion in der Geschichte ist stets und ausnahmslos als kulturelles Phänomen zu betrachten: Darauf gründet der kompakte Leitfaden und Überblick des jetzt in Basel lehrenden Historikers ("England im Jahrhundert der Revolutionen ...", ID 48/94), der sich vorwiegend auf den geographischen Raum Mittel-, West- und Südeuropas, einschließlich Skandinaviens, doch ohne Ost- und Südosteuropa erstreckt. Untersucht wird im gesellschaftlichen Kontext vorrangig die Dynamik des Religiösen, während institutionelle Aspekte (Armenwesen, calvinistische Sittenzucht, barocke Sakralbauten) nur punktuell behandelt werden. Neben der anders akzentuierten Studie "Lebensformen in der frühen Neuzeit" von P. Münch (BA 11/92, 8/98) ein verständlich geschriebenes Buch über die durch Reformation und Gegenreformation, Konfessionalisierung, Ausbildung territorialer Herrschaften, Religionskriege, Aufklärung und säkulare Revolution bestimmte Epoche, das nur allgemeine Kenntnisse dieser Vormoderne voraussetzt.
