    Abstract: Europa ist in der Krise. Angesichts Brexit, dringender Flüchtlings- und Einwanderungsfragen, Diskussionen über den Ausschluss insolventer Länder und dem demokratischen Defizit der EU ist dieser Befund zu einem Allgemeinplatz geworden. Als einen Weg aus der Krise schlagen Politiker_innen, EU-Beamt_innen und Intellektuelle oftmals die Stärkung des Zusammenhalts durch die Rückbesinnung auf die angenommene gemeinsame Geschichte Europas und eine daraus erwachsene kulturelle Identität vor. Dieser Herausforderung stellen sich zunehmend auch aktuelle Nationalmuseen in Europa, indem sie es sich zur Aufgabe machen, sich zu europäisieren: sie setzen es sich zum Ziel, nicht mehr nur die Nation und ihre Geschichte, sondern Europa und europäische Geschichte zu zeigen. Diese "Museen zwischen Nation und Europa" untersucht das Buch aus medienwissenschaftlicher Perspektive. Anhand dreier aktueller Fallstudien aus Deutschland, Polen und Frankreich (Deutsches Historisches Museum Berlin, Europäisches Solidarność Zentrum Danzig, Musée des civilisations de l'Europe et de la Méditerranée Marseille) geht es den Fragen nach, wie diese Museen Europa und seine Geschichte konstruieren, und was Europa und europäisch in ihren musealen Inszenierungen bedeute. Welche Vorstellungen Europas bringen die Medien der Ausstellungen hervor? Wen und was zeigen sie als europäisch, wer gehört dagegen in den musealen Inszenierungen nicht zu Europa? Die Studie zeigt, dass die Europäisierung nationaler Museen auf starke nationale und strukturelle Widerstände stößt.     Abstract: Aristotle's neat compartmentalization notwithstanding (Poetics, ch. 9), historians and playwrights have both been laying claim to representations of the past - arguably since Antiquity, but certainly since the Renaissance. At a time when narratology challenges historiographers to differentiate their "emplotments" (White) from literary inventions, this thirteen-essay collection takes a fresh look at the production of historico-political knowledge in literature and the intricacies of reality and fiction. Written by experts who teach in Germany, Austria, Russia, and the United States, the articles provide a thorough interpretation of early modern drama (with a view to classical times and the 19th century) as an ideological platform that is as open to royal self-fashioning and soteriology as it is to travestying and subverting the means and ends of historical interpretation.     Abstract: Seit dem 18. Jahrhundert erlebt die Institution Museum einen unvergleichlichen Aufschwung, der in den vergangenen Jahren insbesondere in Europa und in China zu einer Gründungswelle und einer Neukonzeption etablierter Einrichtungen geführt hat. Zugleich entwickelte sich die Expositorik zu einer eigenen Disziplin. Begriff und Phänomen des Kulturerbes bilden eine scheinbar gegenläufige Bewegung zwischen lokalen, regionalen und nationalen Bezügen einerseits und globalen, das gesamte Erbe der Menschheit repräsentierenden Stätten andererseits. Es deutet sich darin eine neue Kulturentwicklung an, die mit dem Etikett der Glokalisierung belegt ist. Der Band beleuchtet die komplexen Entwicklungen und Theorien aus verschiedenen Perspektiven und anhand von aktuellen Fallbeispielen.

    Abstract: A growing interest in myth over the last decades has brought to the fore the main mythographical manual that has came down to us from Antiquity: Apollodorus’ Bibliotheca. A number of recent editions shows this trend, like the commented translations of Carrière & Massonie (1991) and Scarpi & Ciani (1996), the translations of Guidorizzi (1995), Brodersen (2004), Dräger (2005) and Smith & Trzaskoma (2007) or the critical text by Papathomopoulos (2010). The publication of the first two volumes (2010 and 2012) of Cuartero’s massive critical and commented bilingual edition for the Fundació Bernat Metge series seemed the occasion to address this text from innovative scholarly perspectives. The origins of the present volume lay in a colloquium held at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2013. Despite its crucial interest for the scientific study of ancient myth, no conference devoted to this engaging text was held prior to that one. And, to this date, no monographic volume on Apollodorus’ mythology exists either. To cover a broader scope of analysis, three further papers have been commissioned to other specialists. This collection of essays is meant to be a homage to Francesc J. Cuartero

    Abstract: Despite the increasing concern for the issue of respect for persons displayed over the last decades by political philosophers, human-right thinkers, social and ethical theorists, a comprehensive treatment of the problem from a historical-philosophical perspective is conspicuously absent. The present collection of essays aims to contribute to the fulfillment of this gap by offering a reconstruction of the seminal passages in the history of philosophy which testify to the evolution of the idea of respect for persons and the rich array of conceptual specifications that such an idea acquires across the centuries. By analysis of pivotal texts of ancient and modern contemporary philosophy, the volume will try to offer an articulated account of respect which, starting from its primeval connection with the search for esteem and the pursuit of human excellence, gradually evolves towards the recognition of the political status of each citizen and culminates into a true politics of human rights

    Abstract: "Zwischen der späten Weimarer Republik und der frühen Bundesrepublik wurde der Begriff "Humanismus" in der Publizistik so oft verwendet wie nie zuvor. Intellektuelle aus unterschiedlichen Milieus verstehen den Zusammenbruch der Weimarer Demokratie und den Nationalsozialismus nicht allein als politisch-soziale Krise, sondern als Krise der Kultur. Die Berufung auf den Humanismus dient dabei oft als eine Art "Bollwerk" gegen den "Biologismus" und den als "Nihilismus" kritisierten Werterelativismus der Moderne. Zugleich wird der klassisch-idealistische Humanismus selbst als krisenhaft und revisionsbedürftig angesehen, woraus sich die Forderung nach einem neuen Humanismus ergibt. Die Beiträge dieses Bandes rekonstruieren aus interdisziplinärer -- v.a. literatur- und philosophiegeschichtlicher -- Perspektive verschiedene Humanismus-Konzepte, die in den 1930er und 1940er Jahren kursieren, sowie die zeitgenössische Humanismus-Kritik. Untersucht werden u.a.     Abstract: "Literacy and Second Language Learning for the Linguistic Integration of Adult Migrants (LASLLIAM)" is a new reference guide of the Council of Europe. It was developed by a group of experts and the Council of Europe Education Department to support high-quality learning environments for non- and low-literate migrants. Language skills foster, among others, social inclusion, and access to education and employment. Within this context, non-literate or low-literate migrants have specific educational needs, as they must learn a second language while either learning to read and write for the first time or developing basic literacy competences in an alphabet or writing system sometimes different from the one they will have learned initially. When it comes to language or knowledge of society courses, these needs are rarely taken into consideration, and this group of migrants is rarely offered a sufficient number of hours to reach the language level required. This is why LASLLIAM has been conceived: it aims at supporting language educators, curriculum designers and language policymakers in their endeavour to design, implement, evaluate and improve curricula tailored toward the specific needs of the target learners.

    Abstract: Modernization and digital globalization have proven to mark major thresholds where paradigmatic shifts and realignments take place. This volume aims to capture the reconfiguration of humanistic study between the forces of global integration and cultural diversification from a full range of disciplines within the humanities and social sciences. The key issue is discussed in three major parts. The first chapter examines transnational interpolations of the humanities as potential indicator for a globalizing humanistic research. The second chapter deals with humanistic revisions of modernity with and against globality. The third chapter discusses the ambiguous constitution of cultural diversity as a complement and counter-movement to global integration, ideologically moving between social cohesion and exclusion. The final chapter outlines what the threshold-crossing from modern to global humanities will mean for the future of humanistic research.The multidisciplinary study of culture within the history of the humanities documents and reflects the mobility and migration of its concepts and methods, moving and translating between disciplines, research traditions, historical periods, academic institutions, and the public sphere.
