    Abstract: Alle fünf Jahre wird in Förste/Nienstedt der "Schüttenhoff" gefeiert, eine südniedersächsische Sonderform des Schützenfestes. An fünf Tagen um Pfingsten finden Umzüge statt. Deren Hauptmerkmal ist das Verteidigen, Erstürmen und Beseitigen der meist von Anliegern oder örtlichen Vereinen errichteten Barrikaden durch drei "Kampfkompanien", die Schützen (Angriff), die Buren (Verteidigung) und die Pioniere (Räumung). Der Film zeigt zwei der fünf Umzüge, den der Männer vom Pfingstsonntag und den der Frauen vom Dienstag darauf.
    Abstract: Every fifth year in Förste/Nienstedt people gather to the "Schüttenhoff" (shooters court), a special form of Schützenfeste (festival with side-shows, including marksmanship) found in southern lower saxony. For five days at Easter processions of three "battalions" take place symbolizing the storming, defence and conquering of barricades erected by inhabitants or local associations. The three "battalions" are the riflemen (responsible for taking the barricade), the farmers (responsible for defending the barricades) and the pioneers (responsible for mopping up). Two of the five processions are shown, men on Whitsun Sunday and women on the following Tuesday.

    Abstract: Gewehrschüsse verkünden den Tod eines Menschen. Während das Grab ausgehoben wird, verabschieden sich die Familienmitglieder von dem Toten, indem sie den Leichnam mit Rotholzpulver einreiben. Vor der eigentlichen Beisetzung finden sich die Läufermasken als Vertreter der Maskengesellschaften ein, um sich von dem Toten zu verabschieden. Nach der Beisetzung - der Tote ruht in einer seitlichen Grube, am Boden des Grabes - beginnen im Grab die Tänze, während dieses wieder mit Erde gefüllt wird. Zum Abschluß der Beisetzung spielt die Militärgesellschaft ihre zum Teil geheimen Instrumente.
    Abstract: Gunshots announce a person's death. While the grave is dug the members of the family take their leave of the deceased by rubbing his body with camwood powder. Before the interment takes place, the running masks arrive as representatives of the mask society to take their leave of the deceased. After the interment - the body rests in a lateral chamber, at the bottom of the grave - dancing begins in the grave while the earth is replaced. At the conclusion of the burial the military society play their secret instruments.

    Abstract: Der Kopist Friedbert Andernach schildert anhand von Hinterglasbildern die Entwicklung und die Hauptmerkmale der Hinterglasmalerei im Schwarzwald. In seiner Werkstatt stellt er anschließend die Kopie eines Hinterglasbildes her. Während der Arbeit erläutert er die einzelnen Arbeitsphasen, die verschiedenen Motive des Bildes und die verwendeten Materialien. Im letzten Abschnitt des Filmes erörtert der Bildsammler François Lotz die Bedeutung der Schwarzwälder Hinterglasbilder im Elsaß.
    Abstract: Friedbert Andernach explains the development of glass working and the major features of Verre églomisé in the Black Forest. In his workshop he shows the various phases, the motives and the materials. François Lotz explains the relevance of the Black Forest glass works in Alsace.

    Abstract: Alljährlich am Nikolausabend feiern die Borkumer den höchsten Feiertag der Insel, Klaasohm. Jeweils zwei mit Fellmasken vermummte Gestalten in drei Altersklassen und ein als Frau verkleideter Mann, das Wiefke, laufen durch den Ort. Sie besuchen einerseits Alte, Kranke und Kinder, die sie mit speziellem Gebäck (Moppe) beschenken und dringen andererseits in Kneipen und Restaurants ein und jagen auf den Straßen Frauen und Mädchen, die sie mit einem Kuhhorn schlagen.
    Abstract: On Nicholas evening (6.12.) the people of Borkum celebrate the islands most important annual celebration, Klaasohm. A man disguised as a woman ("Wiefke", widow), together with 6 disguised children run through the streets. They visit the old, the infirm and the children bringing as a present a special baked treat ("Moppe"). They also barge into pubs and restaurants and throw out the women and girls.
