Abstract:
Abstract:
The film was taken in a settlement of muslim emigrants (muhacir) from Western Siberia. These Westsiberian Tatars of Uzbek origin (buharist) fled from the regions of Omsk and Tobolsk and were settled in the Vilâyet of Konya at the beginning of the 20th century. They have adopted the agricultural economy of their neighbours, the "native" Turks and Kurds (yerli) with whom they also share their religion, the sunnitic islam of the hanefi branch. This film shows some of the ceremonies of a muslim wedding in the willage, namely the preparation of the traditional barley soup (ürey), the reception of the guests in the house of the brides father, music and speen dancing, the loading and transport of the trousseau, the procession of the bride and her relatives through the village and over the fields and the reception of the newly weds at their new house by the village people. The film is incomplete, since some of the wedding ceremonies have not been filmed for ethical or technical reasons.
