    Abstract: Während im Leitmedium Fernsehen politische Themen zunehmend als »cultural fast food« (Pierre Bourdieu) aufbereitet werden, entstehen im Internet transnationale (Gegen-)Öffentlichkeiten, die die neoliberale Ordnung in der ersten Dekade des 21. Jahrhunderts in Frage stellen und für eine Demokratisierung der Lebensverhältnisse eintreten. Das Buch untersucht, wie diese transnationalen zivilgesellschaftlichen Netzwerke entstehen und welches kommunikative Potenzial sie entfalten können. Eine wichtige Frage ist dabei, ob sich kosmopolitische Sichtweisen und Praktiken herausbilden, die am Dialog orientiert sind und ausgehend vom transnationalen Charakter gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungen nach sozialen und kulturellen Veränderungen streben.     Abstract: Norman K. Denzin hat in den letzten Jahrzehnten entschieden dazu beigetragen, dass sich unser Verständnis von qualitativer Forschung und auch von Soziologie erheblich verändert hat. Zum einen hat er gezeigt, dass erst eine Abwendung von (post-)positivistischen Kriterien deutlich macht, dass im Zentrum jeder Art von sozialwissenschaftlicher Forschung die Interpretation steht, die gerade nicht formalisierbar ist, sondern unter ästhetischen Perspektiven beschrieben werden kann. Die Interpretation ist aber nicht nur eine Kunst, sondern hat auch immer politische Implikationen. Denzin dekonstruiert die Logiken traditioneller Sozialforschung und zeigt, wie sie in interpretative Gemeinschaften eingebunden sind, deren verborgene kulturelle Grundlagen er explizit macht. Zum anderen demonstriert er, wie mit qualitativen Methoden (z.B. der interpretativen Biographieforschung oder der Performance-Ethnographie) nicht nur Gesellschaftskritik geübt werden kann, sondern auch die Möglichkeit zum radikaldemokratischen Handeln eröffnet wird.     Abstract: In den letzten Jahren haben sich die Cultural Studies zu einem wichtigen Ansatz der Kommunikations- und Medienforschung entwickelt.     Abstract: A little corner of freedom sheds new light on Soviet politics, revealing how a Russian nationalist movement used the protective umbra of environmentalism to become a cultural and political force, and how ordinary citizens used it to launch the first mass protests at the dawn of glasnost. It shows how activists were able to establish personal ties with local, provincial, and republic-level politicians who came to regard the movement and the nature reserves it promoted as a source of local pride
