    Abstract: Wie sieht gute und alltagstaugliche Wohnarchitektur aus Sicht der Bewohner aus? 1.600 Mieterhaushalte in städtischen Wohnungen von acht deutschen Städten und eine kleine Kontrollgruppe von Eigentümern wurden in Face-To-Face-Interviews befragt. Ein Standardfragebogen wurde mit Computergraphiken und Animationen kombiniert. Der Blick gilt nicht der Gebäudehülle, sondern dem Inneren, dem Raumkonzept, der inneren Erschließung und der Freiraumzuordnung. Die Ergebnisse sind ein Leitfaden zum bedarfsgerechten Neu- und Umbau von städtischen Wohnungen für Bauherren und Planer. Die Architekturnutzer, überwiegend städtische Mieter, erhalten eine Stimme im Qualitätsdialog. Dem interessierten Laien wird eine Übersicht über vorhandene und mögliche Typologien des städtischen Wohnens vorgelegt. In den raumsoziologischen Diskurs wird ein Beleg dafür eingebracht, dass das Gebaute die Wohnweise und die Vorstellungswelt über richtiges Wohnen prägt. Die Studie ist ein Brückenschlag zwischen wohnsoziologischer Grundlagen- und anwendungsorientierter Marktforschung. Der Wunsch nach intelligenten Verbindungen von besonntem privaten Außenraum und Wohnung durchzieht die Ergebnisse wie ein grüner Faden. Es ist aus Sicht der Nutzer das Qualitätskriterium Nummer Eins und eine Kritik an vielen Defiziten städtischen Wohnens. Dem Planer zeigt es die Prioritäten eines bedarfsgerechten Neu- und Umbaus von städtischen Wohnungen auf. Das Gewohnte prägt das Gewünschte. Bewohnergruppen mit vergleichbaren soziodemographischen Merkmalen urteilen in Berlin anders als in Dresden oder Bochum. Der vorhandene Wohnungsbestand ist nicht nur das Ergebnis einer historisch spezifischen Wohnweise, sondern zugleich Prägestock und Begrenzung für das gelebte und das gewünschte Wohnen.
    Abstract: What has good housing architecture to be like, when the occupants are questioned.This leading question guidelines a survey among 1,600 tenants-households in eight German cities. Mainly designed as a post occupancy-evaluation the study contributes guidelines for a more userfriendly planning in urban housing construction and renovation. The survey was carried out by face-to-face interviews assisted by a standardized questionnaire, computer graphics and animation. It focuses on the inside, on floorplans, the idea of the floor plan, interior access and the combination of the interior and the private space outdoors. Space- sociology benefits from the results, as they prove, that the way of construction determines housing habits and housing needs. By means of a catalogue showing several common types of floor plans the occupants were consulted and got basic informations in order to distinguish, to evaluate and to choose among existing types of apartments. This work builds a bridge between basic resarch in housing sociology and user oriented market surveys. Unlike most studies on housing needs and demands, this survey does not operate by the fiction of a transparent line of products at housing markets and freedom of choice. Both, the design of the questionnaire and the shown types of floor-plans take the restrictions of the urban housing market into consideration as well as they mark the boundary of lower income demand and a limited knowledge about housing architecture. Many results underline the importance of intelligent links between interior and private space outdoors.     Abstract: Der Beitrag befasst sich mit der Frage, welche Potenziale die Nanotechnologie für eine lange Welle des ökonomischen Fortschritts birgt. Nach Betrachtung ihrer verschiedenen sozioökonomischen Dimensionen kann festgehalten werden, dass die Nanotechnologie zu Recht als eine Schlüsselinnovation angesehen wird. Mit ihrer Hilfe lassen sich gänzlich neue Produkte herstellen und vorhandene erheblich verbessern. Das Anwendungsspektrum reicht dabei über wichtige Einsatzbereiche wie Feinmechnik/Optik, IuK-Technik, Chemie und Pharmazie, Fahrzeugbau oder Umwelt- und Energietechnik weit hinaus. Trotz hoher Prognoseunsicherheiten deuten Schätzungen auf ganz erhebliche Marktchancen der Nanotechnologie hin. Damit einher gehen Erwartungen von auf mittlere Sicht bis zu zehn Millionen neuen Arbeitsplätzen weltweit. Voraussetzung für deren Realisierung sind allerdings Unternehmen, welche diese Technik aufgreifen und am Markt durchsetzen. Deutschland steht in der internationalen Nanoforschung mit in der ersten Reihe: Renommierte deutsche Wissenschaftler sind Wegbereiter der Nanotechnologie; die deutsche Ausgangsposition bei FuE-Aufwendungen, Patentanmeldungen und Publikationen kann als leistungsstark eingestuft werden; und auch die deutsche Nano-Bildungslandschaft bietet – mit der Einschränkung des nach wie vor herrschenden Ingenieurmangels – insgesamt gute Voraussetzungen.
    Abstract: This article deals with the potential of nanotechnology to create a sustained surge of economic progress. A review of its various socioeconomic dimensions concludes that nanotechnology is rightly viewed as a key innovation. It can be used to manufacture completely new products and considerably improve existing ones. The range of applications stretches well beyond such important fields as precision engineering/optics, information and communication technology, chemistry and pharmaceuticals, vehicle manufacture and environmental and energy technology. Despite the high degree of uncertainty surrounding forecasts, estimates suggest a very considerable market potential with medium-term expectations of up to ten millions new jobs worldwide. Meeting these expectations, however, will require companies that can take up this technology and make a success of it in the marketplace. Germany is one of the countries in the forefront of nano research: well-known German scientists have pioneered the technology; Germany is already in a strong position in terms of R&D expenditures, patent registrations and publications; and on the whole, apart from the continuing lack of engineers, the Germany educational landscape also offers a good basis for the development of nanotechnology.

In this context marketers are forced to advertise globally and to decide between standardization and differentiation of their advertisements, i.e. to either use one single idea all over the world or to make adaptations for local preferences. Besides knowing the pros and cons of these approaches, it is essential that advertisers are familiar with different cultures. Otherwise the advertisement runs the risk of being misunderstood or in the worst case to offend cultural fundamentals. In her book Mirjana Milenkovic examines the specifics of different national cultures and their implications for global advertising. Describing the various local restrictions and obstacles international advertisers have to deal with, the challenge of global advertising becomes clear. The perception of advertising is greatly influenced by the respective culture and its members' understanding of reality. On the basis of Hofstede's Five Dimensions, cultures and their characteristics are described. The reader learns about the behavior in different cultures and how cultural backgrounds impact buying decisions. With numerous practical illustrations Global Advertising in a Cultural Context gives an insight into the specifics of worldwide advertising and the challenge of both approaches in strategy and execution in front of the cultural background.     Abstract: Inhaltsangabe: In ihrer Studie wendet sich Julia Grekova den Problemen zu, die in den Beziehungen zwischen deutschen und russischen Geschäftspartnern auftreten können. In Zeiten zunehmender Globalisierung sowie rascher Erschliessung des Osteuropäischen Raums ist dieses Thema aktuell wie nie zuvor. Geschäftsleute, die unterschiedlichen Kulturen angehören, sich aber einer gemeinsamen Sache widmen, sind durch bestimmte Verpflichtungen (z.B. Unternehmensziele) verbunden, daher sind sie auch bestrebt und manchmal sogar gezwungen miteinander gut auszukommen. Die Tatsache ist: Erstaunlich viele internationale Projekte mit dem Auslandseinsatz scheitern. Analysiert man die Ursachen dafür, kommen Fakten zu Tage, die mit den wirtschaftlichen Kennzahlen sehr schwer und nur indirekt erfassbar sind. Erst wenn wir unseren eigenen kulturellen Kreis verlassen, merken wir plötzlich, wie prägend die Kultur eines Menschen wirklich ist. Wir wundern uns, warum es nicht so läuft wie wir es gewohnt sind. Was stört oder fasziniert ist oftmals schwer in Worte zu fassen. Auch Reaktionen der Fremden sind oft unerklärbar. Missverständnisse sind oft mit den negativen Emotionen verbunden. Setzt man sich mit deren Ursachen nicht auseinander, wird die zwischenmenschliche Beziehung stark belastet. Das wirkt sich auf die Zusammenarbeit negativ aus. Wir schliessen uns vor dem Fremden, fällen Urteile und kritisieren, anstatt unseren Horizont durch Sichtweisen und Erfahrungen anderer zu erweitern. In Anlehnung an wissenschaftliche Publikationen nimmt Julia Grekova die Missverständnisse, die in deutsch-russischen Arbeitsbeziehungen auftreten, unter die Lupe. Betont wird dabei, dass nicht die Ignoranz, sondern das Bewusstwerden einer eigenen Kulturangehörigkeit - aber auch der des Fremden - ein Schlüssel zum Erfolg im zwischenmenschlichen Verstehen und als Folge ebenso in den Arbeitsbeziehungen sein kann. Unsere Herkunft beeinflusst unsere Zukunft durch unsere Art zu handeln und Probleme zu lösen. Um das zu verdeutlichen, geht die Autorin auf die Kultur beider Länder sowie auf die gegenseitige Betrachtung von Deutschen und Russen detailliert ein. In zehn Interviews mit Angehörigen beider Kulturen, die Geschäftsbeziehungen mit jeweils fremdkulturellen Partnern hatten, werden die möglichen Spannungsfelder deutlich. Mit Hilfe eines Interaktionsmodells bricht Julia Grekova die Argumentationskette bis auf den kleinsten gemeinsamen Nenner der Bedürfnisse aller Menschen herunter: Von dem Gegenüber verstanden, respektiert und unterstützt zu sein. Auf diese Weise werden hinterlegten Handlungsmechanismen und Beweggründe des fremdkulturellen Handelns an reellen Arbeitssituationen mit Missverständnis-Charakter veranschaulicht. Mithilfe des verwendeten Interaktionsmodells werden die Wertorientierungen deutscher und russischer Geschäftspartner wissenschaftlich untersucht. Kenntnisse über die Wertorientierungen des fremdkulturellen Geschäftspartners helfen Reaktionen besser einschätzen zu können und eine zwischenmenschliche Beziehung aufzubauen, die eine solide Basis für erfolgreiche Geschäfte sein wird. Im Anschluss an ihre Studienergebnisse entwickelt Julia Grekova ein Trainingskonzept, das insbesondere bei der Vorbereitung auf Auslandsdienstreisen nach Russland hilfreich sein kann.

    Abstract: Why do some regions grow faster than others, and in ways that do not always conform to economic theory? This is a central issue in today’s economic climate, when policy makers are looking for ways to stimulate new and sustainable growth. OECD work suggests that there is no one-size-fits-all answer to regional growth policy. Rather, regions grow in very varied ways and the simple concentration of resources in a place is not sufficient for long-term growth. This report draws on OECD analysis of regional data (including where growth happens, country-by-country), policy reviews and case studies. It argues that it is how investments are made, regional assets used and synergies exploited that can make the difference. Public investment should prioritise longer-term impacts on productivity growth and combine measures in an integrated way. This suggests an important role for regional policies in shaping growth and economic recovery policies, but also challenges policy makers to implement policy reforms.
