    Abstract: Vollständige Aufführung eines Wayang lemah, eines kultischen Spiels mit Lederfiguren, das, im Gegensatz zum indonesischen Schattentheater, am hellichten Tage von einem priesterlichen Vorführer aufgeführt wird. Gegenstand ist hier die mythische Entstehung dieser speziellen dramatischen Gattung selbst.
    Abstract: Complete performance of a wayang lemah, a ritual play with leather puppets, performed unlike the Indonesian shadow-play by a priestly manipulator in broad daylight. Subject of the wayang lemah represented is the mythical creation of this dramatic genre itself.

    Abstract: Zunächst wird das Prinzip der alternierenden Figuration (vgl. E 2163) am Beispiel der auf individuelle Spieler verteilten Gongs und Bambus-Schüttelidiophone Angklung erklärt. Nach diesen analytischen Aufnahmen spielt das vollständige Angklung-Orchester eine Prozessionsmusik sowie, um Metallophone erweitert, ein rituelles Eröffnungsstück.
    Abstract: Initially, the principle of alternating figuration (cf. E 2163) is explained using the gongs, which are distributed among the individual musicians, and the shaken bamboo idiophone exemplarily. After these analytical recordings, the complete Angklung Orchestra plays a piece of processional music and, having been supplemented with a metallophone a ritual opening piece.

    Abstract: Das Prinzip des alternierenden Figurationsspiels hat für die balinesische Musik besondere Bedeutung. Ein Figurationselement wird dabei in rhythmische modellhafte Formeln aufgelöst, die jede durch einen besonderen Spieler ausgeführt und sozusagen nahtlos ineinandergewoben werden. Gegenstand des Films ist die am Reistrog praktizierte Oncangan-Rhythmik sowie ihre Übertragung auf abgestimmte Instrumente: Schlitztrommeln, Maultrommeln sowie Angklung-Orchester.
    Abstract: The principle of alternating figuration playing has a special meaning for Balinese music. In this context, a figuration element is broken into exemplary rhythmic formulas, each of which is performed by a special player and are woven perfectly smoothly into one another, as it were. The subject of the film is the Oncangan rhythmic practised on rice trough as well as their transference to matched instruments: slotted drums, Jews' harps, as well as Angklung orchestra.

    Abstract: Anlaß der in den Filmen E 2201 und E 2202 wiedergegebenen Zeremonie war der erste Europa-Besuch des Dalai Lama am 9. Oktober 1973 in Rikon/Schweiz. Die Gläubigen bitten den Dalai Lama "fest zu verweilen", d. h. lange zu leben und sich auch nach seiner gegenwärtigen Existenz immer wieder neu zu verkörpern, bis alle Lebewesen vom Leid erlöst sind.
    Abstract: The film, composed of two parts (E 2201 and E 2202), presents the greater part of a ceremony held on 9th October 1973 in a big camp at Rikon (Switzerland) on the occasion of the Dalai Lama's first visit to Europe. At this ceremony hundreds of faithful entreat "perpetual presence" of the Dalai Lama, i. e. that he may live long and return to our world, after the extinction of his actual existence, in successive incarnations, untill all beings are delivered from suffering.

    Abstract: Ein zehnjähriger Tänzer tanzt im heiligsten Teil des Familientempels der traditionellen Fürsten von Saba den solistischen Baris ngelémbar, wobei er einen jungen Ritter verkörpert, der in den Krieg zieht. Der Tänzer steht in ständiger Kommunikation mit den beiden Trommlern, die als Koordinatoren zwischen Tanz und Musik sowie als Leiter des Orchesters fungieren.

    Abstract: Überblick über den Aufbau repräsentativer Stücke aus dem rituellen Musikrepertoire des altbalinesischen Dorfes Tenganan. Die auf einfachen Eisentasteninstrumenten gespielte Ritualmusik wird von Musikspezialisten allmonatlich zu festgelegten Kultzeiten aufgeführt. Zur Erleichterung der Analyse der komplexen Figurationen und der Spielweise wurden einzelne Instrumentalparts auch gesondert gefilmt (vgl. E 2237).
    Abstract: The film gives a general view of the structure and manner of playing of representative pieces of ritual music of the old Balinese village of Tenganan Pegeringsingan. The performers are musical specialists (jurugambel), nominated by the village, who play in specific combinations of the sacred iron plate orchestra selonding. In order to facilitate the analysis of the complex figuration and of the manner of playing, different instrumental parts were also filmed separately.

Das Auffinden einer mit Stroh ausgestopften Schafhaut leitet eine zeremonielle Brauchhandlung ein: Trauerzugparodie, Verbrennen der Schafhaut, Tanz.
    Abstract: The sheaves spread out are treshed with flails. The threshers are working in teams of five persons arranged in two lines close to each other. The discovery of a stuffed sheepskin is the beginning of a ceremonial threshing custom. After nightfall the sheepskin is burnt in the open air.

    Abstract: Anlaß der in den Filmen E 2201 und E 2202 wiedergegebenen Zeremonie war der erste Europa-Besuch des Dalai Lama am 9. Oktober 1973 in Rikon/Schweiz. Die Gläubigen bitten den Dalai Lama "fest zu verweilen", d. h. lange zu leben und sich auch nach seiner gegenwärtigen Existenz immer wieder neu zu verkörpern, bis alle Lebewesen vom Leid erlöst sind.
    Abstract: The film, composed of two parts (E 2201 and E 2202), presents the greater part of a ceremony held on 9th October 1973 in a big camp at Rikon (Switzerland) on the occasion of the Dalai Lama's first visit to Europe. At this ceremony hundreds of faithful entreat "perpetual presence" of the Dalai Lama, i. e. that he may live long and return to our world, after the extinction of his actual existence, in successive incarnations, until all beings are delivered from suffering.

As magically potent garments and offerings, these technologically unique textiles play an important role in the complex ritual life of the village.

    Abstract: Einige Schlüsselszenen aus dem zeremoniellen höfischen Chronikspiel mit Halb- oder Ganzmasken, so wie es im ostbalinesischen Sidemen bei Geburtstagen oder Hochzeiten, bei Hauseinweihungen oder Tempelfesten zu Ehren der vorübergehend im Tempel weilenden Götter und Ahnen aufgeführt wird.
    Abstract: Several key scenes from the courtly ceremonial chronic play with half or total masks, as is performed in the eastern Balinese village of Sidemen at birthdays or weddings, at house-warmings or temple festivals to honour the gods and ancestors who briefly visit the temple.

    Abstract: Die von Ritualmusik (vgl. E 2167) begleiteten Zweikämpfe mit Schilden, wie sie in Tenganan einmal jährlich an drei aufeinanderfolgenden Tagen vor den Häusern der Jünglingsbünde stattfinden. Die Paarungen werden ad hoc gebildet. Ziel des Zweikampfes ist nicht der verkündete Sieg, sondern das Bestehen einer Mutprobe, verbunden mit der taktischen Überlistung des Partners.
    Abstract: The duels with shields accompanied by ritual music (cf. E 2167), as they are performed in Tenganan once annually on three consecutive days in front of the houses of the Young Men's' Society. The pairings are formed on an ad hoc basis. The objective of the duels is not the announced victory, but rather the endurance of a test of courage linked with the tactical outwitting of one's opponent.

    Abstract: Eine Frau vermischt Tonerde mit Wasser und knetet den nassen Ton zum Batzen. Auf der Arbeitsbank gibt sie ihm zunächst eine rudimentäre Form, aus der nach dem Trocknen mit einem Schlegel und einem Stein als Widerlager die endgültige Form herausgearbeitet wird. Nach drei Tagen werden die engobierten Töpfe im offenen Feuer gebrannt.
    Abstract: A woman mixes clay with water and kneads the wet clay to a clump. On a work bench, she initially gives it a rudimentary form, from which the final shape is worked out with a mallet and a stone as a dolly after the piece has dried. After three days the glazed pots are burned in an open fire.

    Abstract: Am Vorabend des 13. Dezember kleiden sich zwei Frauen und ein Mädchen als Luzien an (2 schwarze und 1 weiße Luzia) und betreten eine Wohnstube, in der Kinder auf einer Eckbank sitzen. Die Luzien sagen einen Spruch auf und drohen den Kindern. Ihre Requisiten sind: Sichel und Wetzstein sowie ein Gefäß mit einem Holzlöffel.
    Abstract: In the area of Cham (Upper Palatinate) a bogy appears at the eve of Dec. 13th, the day of Saint Lucia, which is called "Luzia" or "Luzl". About the year 1930 this custom was still practised in the whole of north-east Bavaria especially by the farm workers. "Luzia" threatens to rip up the children's stomachs with her sickle and to fill them with bricks. Today this figure is widely rejected because of its negative effects on the children's minds.

    Abstract: Die "Historische Gesellschaft Lazarus Strohmanus Jülich" (Generalversammlung und Vorbereitung am Fastnachtssonntag) führt im Rahmen eines öffentlichen Schaubrauches alljährlich am Fastnachtsdienstag das Aufwerfen einer Strohfigur vor: Umzug durch die Stadt, Aufwerfen, Einzug in die Wirtschaften, Ausstellung des Lazarus vor dem Rathaus und Schlüsselübergabe. Am Schluß wird die entkleidete Strohfigur in die Ruhr geworfen.
    Abstract: Every year on Shrove Tuesday the "Historische Gesellschaft Lazarus Strohmanus Jülich" (Historic Society Lazarus Strohmanus Jülich) performs in public the custom of throwing up a straw figure. The film presents in chronological order the general meeting of the performers and supporters of this custom (with "national song", commemoration of the dead, conferring of medals and swearing), the preparations for the performance (studying of the reprimanding verses, making of the brooms), and the principal phases of the performance: procession across the town, throwing up of the straw figure, entry into the inns, exhibition of the "Lazarus" in front of the town hall, and delivery of the keys of the town. Finally the undressed straw figure is thrown into Rur.

    Abstract: Am Beispiel zweier Zulu-Frauen wird der Geburtsverlauf in Kniestellung gezeigt. Die Geburten finden in einer Hütte statt, einzige Hilfspersonen sind die Schwiegermutter sowie eine Verwandte. Die Kreißende unterstützt das Pressen durch kräftiges Ziehen an einem Strick. Ihr Leib wird mit speziellen kräuterdurchtränkten Grasbüscheln massiert. Im zweiten Beispiel wird eine Spontangeburt gezeigt. Durchschneiden der Nabelschnur mit einem scharfen Grashalm.
    Abstract: Parturition in the kneeling position demonstrated by two Zulu women. The first example is birth in a hut with mother-in-law and one further family member present, where the woman is massaged with herb-saturated grass and the helpers assist the birth by pulling on a rope. The second example involves spontaneous birth. Cutting the umbilical cord with a sharp blade of grass.
