    Abstract: History Teaching in the university context is a completely unexplored field of research in Italy and for a large part also in those countries that can boast more solid traditions of studies in this research area. This is caused by the shared idea that the academic context is always a guarantee of a high quality of teaching. This work reverses this thesis and therefore aims to deeply investigate the teaching and learning of History to understand its effectiveness; in other words, this means understand whether and how the university can lead students to the development of Historical Thinking, i.e. the most important of the educational objectives concerning History. Through the comparison between Italy and Spain (one of the most advanced country in this research area), the use of a large variety of sources (including specific surveys) and a wide recognition of the Didactics of History as a discipline (with reference to its most important debate on Historical Thinking), the result is a first attempt to identify and analyze the original characteristics and critical issues of History in the higher education system which focuses on the most relevant disciplinary traditions, practices and teaching tools, and also on the complex relationship of academic History with school, publishing industry and digital.

    Abstract: The general purpose of military paperwork in the Roman army was to control and to manage the personnel, giving detailed information about compositions of the unit, status and availability of the soldiers for duty tasks, their salaries and expenses. The needs of the service called for documents highly readable that, in their form and content, show a good degree of uniformity over time and space. Although some scholars have discussed the various typologies of documents and have reconstructed the branches of military bureaucracy, until now the topic is still a field open for study. 0The volume by Ornella Salati aims to address the question of documents? composition in the Roman army during the first three centuries AD, analysing Latin papyri from Egypt. Particular attention is paid firstly to their layout, visual details (format of columns, blank spaces) and handwriting (capital and/or cursive); secondly their pattern, content and language (specific sentences, formulae) are discussed. Comparative evidence from other military contexts (Vindolanda in northern England, Dura Europos in southern-eastern Syria, Gholaia in north Africa) are also taken into account. Possible connections with time and space, and even with the material support are explored in order to show similarities and differences. Such comprehensive approach consents to obtain a deeper knowledge of the organization of the Roman army and of the system of writing, authentication and archiving its documents

    Abstract: This work provides an in-depth description of the juridical framework in which the Italian book trade operated during the Renaissance.     Abstract: "With the evolution of today’s educational contexts, teacher education is becoming increasingly important into European political discussion, in relation to its ability to improve the results of student learning. The need to confront new changes clearly signifies that the professionalism of teachers cannot be limited to competencies and skills learning, however, it does require new strategic dimensions of professional activation, oriented towards better identifying personal goals and strategies to be achieved. The text re-draws the paradigm of the continuing teacher professional development by integrating the capability approach with the models of competencies. Starting from the analysis of European policies on teacher education, the text carry out an experimental research into pre-school settings to explore the importance of individual choice: throught the creation of innovative research tools and a self-training methodology, pre-school teachers involved improved their self-determine agency and better qualified professional development. The text meets the interests of researchers, as a important contribution to rethink the topic of teacher training, also for the chosen methodological approach; for teachers, it wants to deepen the sense of educational professionalism, updated to the most recent topics and issues; finally, it meets the interests of aspiring in-training teachers or aspiring researchers for the richness of its contents, in order to inspire the elaboration of new, original research perspectives."

    Abstract: Serious illness prevents many students from attending school on a regular basis and can lead to long-term absence from the classroom. The consequent isolation impedes socialization and educational exchange between homebound students and their schoolmates, as well as interaction with their teachers. Moreover, these students face serious difficulties when they eventually manage to return to school. All these factors slow down homebound students’ learning progress and weaken their sense of belonging to their peer group. In response to these issues, Italy’s Ministry of Education (MIUR), National Research Council (CNR), and the TIM Foundation set up a project in 2013 named TRIS (Networked Technologies and Socio-educational Inclusion). The main aim of the project is to develop a flexible and scalable intervention model for integrating homebound leaners. This is based on active and engaging learning approaches and is designed for application to a wide variety of long–term absence situations. The main pillar of the project is the so-called “Inclusive Hybrid Classroom”, a special blending of physical and digital learning spaces. By facilitating direct engagement in class activities, irrespective of the students’ actual location, this kind of classroom heightens the sense for everyone that the homebound student is actively present in the classroom

    Abstract: The papers presented in this volume analyse the many ways in which the Vatican, national Churches and individual catholics dealt with the rise of the extreme right in Europe throughout the 1920s, 1930s and early 1940s, from the end of the First World War, arguably one of the main catalysts of European interwar fascism, to the conclusion and immediate aftermath of the Second World War. While a number of papers focus primarily on theoretical, methodological issues pertaining to the book’s general theme, the majority of papers focus on either a country or region where a fascist movement or regime flourished between the wars and during the Second World War, and where there was a significant catholic presence in society. The various chapters cover almost the entire European continent – an endeavour that is unprecedented –, and they explore a wide range of relevant contexts and methodologies, thus further contributing to the general development of an interpretive ‘cluster’ model that incorporates a series of investigative matrixes, and that will hopefully inspire future research.

    Abstract: Dopo anni di dibattito sulla presenza degli studenti di cittadinanza non italiana nel sistema scolastico, i tempi sono maturi per aprire le prospettive di studio e di intervento della pedagogia interculturale anche al mondo accademico. Avanguardia dello stesso multiculturalismo, con una presenza straniera che da sempre l’ha strutturalmente segnata, seppur esigua al confronto con altri Paesi, l’università si trova oggi a rispondere a nuove sfide, che partono da una ridefinizione, quantitativa e qualitativa, della popolazione studentesca di cittadinanza non italiana: accanto alla figura più classica dello studente internazionale, che sceglie l’Italia come meta dei suoi studi e che vi arriva ponendo questo come suo obiettivo prioritario, si afferma oggi la presenza di quegli studenti, figli delle migrazioni, che si affacciano al mondo accademico dopo un’esperienza di scolarizzazione e di inserimento sociale non sempre semplice e lineare. Il volume, oltre a inquadrare gli scenari generali riferiti alla società e alla città multiculturale, all’internazionalizzazione degli studi, documenta un lavoro di ricerca pedagogica, con aperture anche alle scienze sociali e geografiche, svolto nell’Università dell’Aquila. L’indagine sul campo ha mirato a ricostruire i background, i percorsi accademici, i bisogni formativi, i problemi dell’inserimento sociale degli studenti internazionali e degli studenti stranieri scolarizzati in Italia, prestando particolare attenzione anche ai temi della socialità, della reciprocità, del pregiudizio e dell’inclusione anche in riferimento agli studenti italiani. La ricerca, ma anche l’azione: L’Aquila, una città universitaria ancora segnata dal sisma del 2009 e dall’alterazione dei rapporti sociali. Nel volume si riportano la descrizione e i principali risultati del progetto “Unidiversità” (FEI, annualità 2013, Azione 7, PROG-1059381), all’interno del quale si è puntato alla formazione di una nuova figura professionale, il tutore della convivenza, e alla sua implementazione in ambito accademico e urbano.     Abstract: The aim of this book is to offer the reader a critical edition of the petitions in their original Italian language that (Catholic) Jews residing in Italy submitted to the Fascist General Administration for Demography and Race (Demorazza) in order either to be ¿́¿discriminated, ¿́¿ id est, not subjected to various provisions of Mussolini¿́¿s racial laws of 1938, or ¿́¿Aryanized, ¿́¿ id est, be considered not of ¿́¿the Jewish race, ¿́¿ as defined by the convoluted and inconsistent Fascist anti-Semitic legislation. Anyone born of parents who both were of ¿́¿the Jewish race, ¿́¿ even though professing a religion other than Judaism, was deemed to be Jewish. Consequently, the racial laws affected not only those Italians who considered themselves Jewish, whether secular or religious, but also a significant number of Catholics whose ancestors had been Jewish, as the majority of the cases contained in this volume show

    Abstract: "È dalla più remota antichità che l'uomo si interroga sulla struttura dell'Universo e sulle leggi che lo governano. Ma il progresso compiuto all'inizio del XX secolo non ha paragoni rispetto a quello di tutti i secoli precedenti: nel 1915 fu formulata la relatività generale, indispensabile per inquadrare tutti i fenomeni cosmici e astrofisici, tra il 1920 e il 1930 furono determinate le reali dimensioni dell'Universo visibile e fu scoperta la sua costante espansione. La cosmologia ha poi fatto un grande salto di qualità a cavallo tra la fine del XX secolo e l'inizio del XXI, quando una serie di osservazioni ha confermato che: L'Universo è spazialmente ""piatto"", in seguito all'inflazione cosmica che, una frazione di secondo dopo il Big Bang, ne ha gonfiato le dimensioni di decine o centinaia di miliardi di volte. L'Universo è costituito al 70% da energia oscura e al 24% da materia oscura: la materia visibile, cioè stelle e galassie, rappresenta solo il 6% del totale. Attualmente l'espansione dell'Universo è in una fase di nuova accelerazione. L'Universo inflazionario è una specula che forse rivela i misteri delle leggi fisiche a piccolissime distanze e altissime energie laddove dovrebbe trovarsi il regno delle superstringhe e della gravità quantistica. In questo libro viene ripercorsa la grande avventura del pensiero umano che dalla concezione aristotelica di un mondo statico eterno e in realtà piccolissimo è approdato alla contemporanea visione di un cosmo dinamico e immenso, germogliato però da una infinitesima fluttuazione quantistica."

    Abstract: A much discussed question in classical studies is the comparison between the situation of poets in Augustan Rome and that of artists and intellectuals in the totalitarian regimes of the twentieth century. As instructive as this question proves to be for an understanding of the relation between the freedom of art and thinking on the one hand and power on the other, it also reveals the insufficiency of our present grasp of this crucial articulation of our humanity. This volume offers a multidisciplinary and comparative approach to the problem, complementing the historical perspective with a regard on Eastern traditions. It thus explores tentative paths for future research on an issue of critical importance for the shaping of the global world

    Abstract: This book is a collection of articles by Italian and foreign scholars designed to offer an overview of the processes and issues involved in the history of the confraternity movement, as yielded by studies in the historical, social, legal, literary and artistic spheres in the course of the twentieth century. The articles deal with the historical context of western Europe, and more specifically with Italy, in the period comprised between the Middle Ages and the early Modern Age. The collection is divided into four sections: Individuals and groups, which explores the emergence of an interest in confraternity communities in disciplines addressing the history of social groups, of the rural world, of women and of young people. The legal and institutional framework deals with issues of legitimacy and institutional structure. The economics of charity analyses the relations between the confraternities and the hospital structures, the procedures for the administration of the assets, and the strategies of governance underlying the policies of aid of which the confraternities were the principal instrument. Finally, the section Theatrical, musical, artistic and documentary evidence is devoted to the sources that have handed down evidence of the operation of the confraternities

    Abstract: This book focuses on one of the prime movers in the unification of Lunigiana – a region which at the time was still broken up into a myriad of tiny feudal holdings, almost all in the hands of the various branches of the Malaspina family. The process of unification began in the fifteenth century, when various areas of the region were conquered by Milan and Florence, which also divided between them the hegemony of the remaining independent territories, while Genoa too displayed an interest in expansion in the region. As a result it became crucial for the local lords to manoeuvre between the various forces at play to maintain the independence of their own little states. Among the figures who displayed the greatest dexterity in this was Gabriele Malaspina, who became a leading player on the stage of local history. The book starts by illustrating the period in which Malaspina succeeded in obtaining his political independence, and then goes on to analyse the phase in which his policy came to be characterised by an absolute loyalty to Florence. Finally the book addresses the last part of the Marquis's life, marked by a progressive distancing from the Florentine alliance in favour of other entities, in which he nevertheless always succeeded in maintaining his independence

The author reconstructs the itinerary of Carlo Rosselli, conducting the theoretical analysis in the light of the complexity of the historic context. From the years of the Great War to the exile in France, intellectual meditation and political commitment are inextricably entwined threads in the career of the Florentine antifascist. In the attempt to pinpoint the key passages of this unquiet quest, the book traces the stages of an evolving thought. A thought that was matured through critical comparison with liberal theory and Marxist doctrine, found inspiration in English socialism and conceived opposition to the Fascist regime as the grounds for a project of progressive democracy

L'autore ricostruisce l'itinerario di Carlo Rosselli, conducendo l'analisi teorica alla luce della complessità del contesto storico. Dagli anni della Grande Guerra all'esilio in Francia, riflessione intellettuale e impegno politico connotano il percorso dell'antifascista fiorentino come fili intrecciati e inestricabili. Nel tentativo di individuare i passaggi chiave di una ricerca inquieta, il volume segue le tappe di un pensiero in divenire. Pensiero che matura attraverso il confronto critico con la teoria liberale e la dottrina marxista, trova ispirazione nel socialismo inglese e concepisce l'opposizione al regime fascista come premessa a un progetto di democrazia progressiva

    Abstract: Al centro di questo volume è uno degli attori principali nel processo di riunificazione della Lunigiana – regione allora suddivisa in tante piccole signorie, quasi tutte nelle mani dei vari rami della famiglia Malaspina – che avvenne nel XV secolo, quando Milano e Firenze vi conquistarono diversi territori e si spartirono l'egemonia sui restanti territori autonomi, mentre anche Genova si mostrò interessata all'espansione in quella zona. Per i signori locali divenne quindi fondamentale riuscire a destreggiarsi fra le varie forze in gioco per mantenere l'indipendenza del proprio piccolo stato, e fra i personaggi che più risaltano per questa loro abilità e per il ruolo giocato nella storia locale spicca Gabriele Malaspina. Il libro inizia mostrando la situazione della Lunigiana al momento in cui il Malaspina ottenne la propria indipendenza politica, per poi analizzare il periodo in cui la politica marchionale si caratterizzò per la sua assoluta fedeltà all'amicizia fiorentina, e quindi la parte finale della vita del marchese, in cui si assiste a un progressivo allontanamento dall'alleanza fiorentina in favore di altri soggetti, ma in cui riuscì sempre a mantenere la sua indipendenza

Tutti i grandi quotidiani offrono giornalmente alcuni schemi da risolvere, sono nate associazioni e federazioni, vengono organizzati tornei locali, vari campionati nazionali e persino un campionato mondiale a cadenza annuale, si moltiplicano le proposte di varianti del Sudoku classico, moltissimi docenti universitari hanno avviato tesi di laurea sull’argomento, sono stati scritti svariati prodotti software su PC, su hardware dedicato e sulle principali console di giochi interattivi. Accanto alla moltitudine crescente di dilettanti che con varia frequenza si cimentano nel gioco, di solito lavorando con carta e penna e in solitario, è nata una comunità mondiale di esperti che, attraverso forum dedicati su Internet, cercano di scovare tecniche di soluzione sempre più sofisticate, oppure si accaniscono ad individuare e sviscerare i segreti logico-matematici del gioco, o più semplicemente si propongono di strutturare, organizzare e diffondere la conoscenza in materia. Questo libro si rivolge al primo gruppo di persone, ai dilettanti che vogliono continuare a giocare con carta e penna e che eventualmente vogliono diventare un po’ più esperti, e si propone di dare risposta a due quesiti principali: 1) come riuscire a risolvere in modo divertente qualsiasi schema, per quanto difficile, proposto dalle riviste specializzate, a partire da un numero limitato ma sufficiente di tecniche di base e avanzate, 2) come orientarsi nel variegato mondo degli esperti, dei forum, dei siti dedicati, dei prodotti software, senza perdere tempo inutile e potendo rapidamente trovare risposta a qualsiasi eventuale dubbio.

    Abstract: "In Fairy-Tale Science Suzanne Magnanini explores the birth and evolution of the literary fairy tale in the context of early modern discourses on the monstrous. She demonstrates how both the normative literary theories of the Italian intellectual establishment and the emerging New Science limited the genre's success on its native soil.     Abstract: This volume is devoted to one of the major aristocratic lineages of northern Italy in the later middle ages. The Rossi, whose political and social eminence dates back to the communal age, built in the Parmense a powerful lordship, based both on their estates and fortresses and on a vast patronage network spread over the territory and in the town: and the power of the family, though diminished after the crisis in the relations with the Sforza in 1482, was restored on partially different foundations during the Italian Wars.     Abstract: In contesto scolastico quello delle difficoltà in matematica è un fenomeno importante sia per la sua diffusione sia per le conseguenze che ha a vari livelli: dal disagio personale con cui viene vissuto da molti allievi, all'atteggiamento negativo che larghi strati della popolazione costruiscono verso la nostra disciplina, fino al calo di iscrizioni ai corsi di laurea scientifici. Di fronte a queste difficoltà, che spesso si manifestano in comportamenti quali la rinuncia a provare o il rispondere a caso, l'azione didattica finalizzata al recupero è in genere un'azione locale, che nasce dall'individuazione di errori per poi intervenire sulle conoscenze ritenute necessarie per rispondere correttamente. Ma questo tipo di intervento si rivela in genere fallimentare, e l'insegnante - insieme all'allievo - matura un senso di impotenza e di frustrazione. Il fatto è che questo approccio tende ad ignorare la varietà degli scopi che allievi diversi si possono porre davanti ad uno stesso compito, scopi non necessariamente interni alla matematica: per un intervento efficace è necessario allora spostare l'attenzione dagli errori che l'allievo commette all'allievo che li commette, alla ricerca dei motivi delle sue azioni. Questo volume intende offrire agli insegnanti di matematica strumenti utili per affrontare il problema, costruendo gradatamente - anche con l'aiuto di contributi teorici provenienti da altre discipline - un repertorio di interpretazioni possibili per i comportamenti degli allievi, su cui poter progettare interventi mirati, adeguati cioè ai loro problemi e bisogni

    Abstract: The transformations of our society place the onus on the teaching professions to acquire new skills to enable them to respond to the needs of a complex reality in constant evolution. This is why the Degree Course for Professional Educator has gone through ongoing radical changes over recent years, designed to synthesise the theoretical and practical dimensions. This book is aimed at recording such changes in the attempt to provide a snapshot of the youth universe through the discussion of data emerging from a questionnaire, and the analysis of various scholastic autobiographies written by the students themselves. The objective of the publication is to understand the backgrounds of our students, what are their relations with the school and with the teachers, what expectations they have in relation to the academic world and their future in professional and personal terms.     Abstract: Illacrimate sepolture prende spunto dalla recente ricerca paleopatologica e storica delle salme dei membri della famiglia Medici, sepolti nella cripta delle Cappelle Medicee, per guardare indietro alla storia delle precedenti esumazioni, a partire dal 1559, quando furono traslati i corpi di Lorenzo il Magnifico e di Giuliano, suo fratello, fino alla esumazione del secolo scorso, condotta da Giuseppe Genna e Gaetano Pieraccini. Ripercorrere le vicende di queste sepolture, spiegando le motivazioni delle scelte (a volte discutibili) del passato, e contestualizzando i diversi interventi alla luce delle esigenze che li avevano motivati, può infatti servire a indicare la strada più giusta ai ricercatori attualmente impegnati nel Progetto Medici. Fondata su documenti d'archivio e materiale iconografico prevalentemente inedito, la presente ricerca si propone quindi come punto di partenza per indagini ulteriori, e come imprescindibile strumento di lavoro

    Abstract: Le trasformazioni della nostra società pongono le professioni educative di fronte all'esigenza di acquisire nuove competenze che permettano di rispondere ai bisogni di una realtà complessa e in costante evoluzione. Per tale ragione il Corso di Laurea in Educatore Professionale in questi ultimi anni ha cambiato e sta cambiando volto, nell'intento di unire armonicamente in sé dimensione teorica e pratica. Il volume cerca appunto di dar conto di tali cambiamenti nel tentativo di fornire una fotografia di questo universo giovanile tramite la discussione dei dati emersi da un questionario e l'analisi di alcune autobiografie scolastiche scritte dagli studenti stessi. Obiettivo della pubblicazione: capire quale sia la realtà dalla quale i nostri iscritti provengono, quale il loro rapporto con la scuola e con i docenti, quali aspettative nutrano nei confronti del mondo accademico e del proprio futuro lavorativo e personale.
